Hunter Biden Provided "Legal Advice" to a Romanian Charged With Real Estate Fraud at, Get This, the Exact Same Time Joe Biden Was Making Quid Pro Quo Deals About Legal "Reforms" in Romania

I believe they call this a Vertically Integrated Consortium and/or Racketeering and Corrupt Enterprise.

When they say Joe Biden was "pushing" for reforms, you can just take that to mean "threatening to hold back on American aid unless Romania did as Joe Biden says, and maybe you don't want to upset his son or his 'associates,' either, capisce?"

In the final year of the Obama administration, an American lawyer traveled to Romania to meet with a businessman accused of orchestrating a corrupt land deal.

The businessman was Gabriel "Puiu" Popoviciu, a wealthy Romanian real estate tycoon. The lawyer brought in to advise him was Hunter Biden, the son of then-Vice President Joe Biden, according to two people familiar with the matter.

Hunter Biden’s work for Popoviciu in 2016 went unreported at the time, but Joe Biden’s involvement in Romania was very much public. The vice president was among the leading voices pushing the government to crack down on corruption.

There's no evidence that Hunter or his father acted improperly or violated any laws. But the arrangement, government ethics experts say, raises concerns that Hunter Biden was used as a prop in Popoviciu’s effort to dodge criminal prosecution.

"We don't know what [Hunter Biden] was paid or what he was paid for but it does raise questions of whether this Romanian individual facing criminal charges was actually paying for a connection to the American vice president," said Kathleen Clark, a Washington University law professor who specializes in government ethics.

Weirdest thing, it not only "raises the question" of whether he was paying protection money to Biden fils, it answers that question: Yes. Yes he was paying for protection.

Why the fvck else would a Romanian seek out a never-was American lawyer who has nothing on his CV except his last name?

More:

Popoviciu was convicted in 2016 but launched an appeal. He assembled a high profile legal team to fight the conviction, which included former FBI director Louis Freeh, according to a release from Freeh's firm.

That same year, Hunter Biden traveled to Romania to assist Popoviciu, according to two people familiar with the matter.

...

At the time he was brought in, Hunter Biden was performing work for the law firm Boies Schiller Flexner LLP where he was "of counsel."The firm did not respond to a request for comment.

I don't mean to trash "of counsel" lawyers, but "of counsel" is a designation given to a lawyer who is fairly senior but who is not a partner. That doesn't always mean that he isn't good enough to be a partner -- some lawyers may prefer working shorter hours or working partly as a lawyer and partly as, let's say for sake of the hypothetical, political fixer and influence peddler -- but you should just know that "of counsel" is not a prestige title.

I don't think Hunter Biden's ever anything close to a prestige title, except maybe Gold-Plated Bagman or Sly Pimp.

Meanwhile, while CNN had a poll showing that Biden had zoomed back out ahead of Warren -- crushing her 34% to 19%, a 15 point lead, Qunnippiac just published a poll showing that Warren is not only leading Biden, but pushing her lead, and leading outside the margin of error.

Quinnipiac University Poll shows Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts has taken Biden’s place as the front-runner, putting considerable distance between herself and the former vice president.

...

Warren, polling at 28 percent support in the latest release, put a commanding 7 percentage point margin between herself and Biden in recent weeks -- well outside the poll’s approximately three percent margin of error.

Sanders regained some lost ground and Pete Buttgag broke into the double digits.

I'm starting to think that polls are very unreliable these days.

Thanks to "nasty little s***bag." That's not me being mean, that's what he called himself. What am I gonna do?

Well, yeah.

The important question isn't national mood, it's what's going to happen over the first four primary states.

IA, NH, SC, and NV.

Out of those, 2 are caucus states, contests Biden has no chance of winning because he doesn't have the right kind of support.

He's going to lose NH as well.

That leaves him SC and their sizable black population to save him. Let's assume he wins it but loses the other 3: Does he look like a front runner going into Super Tuesday?

Pete has been showing up in my social media because an old college friend was near a campaign stop of his and got her photo taken with him. Plus he had some late-trimester "it's a hard choice complicated by politics" non-answer that my no-kids-and-menopausing acquaintances REALLY liked. He's a creep.

Really??

277 I don't mind polls being brought up, it's just that you have to look at the crosstabs. For example, a poll that is NOT restricted to registered voters means it includes illegal aliens. For every poll done that way, automatically subtract 5 points from the dems and add 5 to Trump, and you might get close to an actual voting public number. Also, you've got to look to see the party breakdown, and if they don't give you that, then automatically subtract another 5 from the dem side and add it to Trump.

The polls wouldn't be used as predictions for the future, but a reading of what's going on right now. People jump into using them as predictions way too easily, which breeds mistrust of polling in general.

But within a series? As a view of things that are going on right now? It's not bad. The question then becomes what do you do with it?

Trump's national polls? Unless Pelosi is going to use that information to start impeachment, it's of very limited use because no one else is making decisions based on it now.

To everyone except the media. Polls are another means for the media to try to influence events, instead of simply reporting on events after they occur. Polls feed the media's shameless frontrunning; the media always wants to be on the leader's bandwagon. That's why the media is devastated when election results don't conform to the polls - they hate it that they backed a loser instead of the winner.

YES, he creeps me out to. I can't quite put my finger on it - maybe it's because he gets that same arrogant, nasty tone as Obama when he's snarking on another candidate/Trump/Pence?

There's a lot about his background that gets no coverage, such as his dad being an uber-Commie, the world's foremost expert on Gramsci. Or the fact that amidst his military service and mayor positions he was a consultant for McKinsey out of their Chicago office, worked for former Defense Sec. Cohen's national security firm, was a Truman Center Fellow (Truman Center is funded by Ploughshares, the pro-Iran "echo chamber" group), and a Rodel fellow for the Soros-funded Aspen Institute.

And that's what I've been saying (not that anyone actually cares to pay attention). Trump's plummeting support doesn't mean he will lose next year.

But it does mean the likelihood of impeachment is now basically 100% and a dragged out impeachment process could very well drag his popularity down to the point of making re-election impossible.

And who knows, 3-4 months from now if he's at 35% approval, the GOP may say fuck it and vote to remove in the Senate.

That's where the danger lies in all of this.

Now, with considerably less legal power and resources, they're trying to find something that a prosecutor with unlimited resources and funding could not.

Plus, this helps fundraising and gives the networks something to jabber about. Remember that incestuous relationship goes both ways: they have to give CNN and so on content to talk about or they cannot help the Dems win elections.

Trump is a genius and to compare him to an first gen AI is not really fair. Its not really intelligent. Its an imitation of intelligence. It is laying out a pattern that is consistent with what intelligence would touch on, if it were addressing such a stupid topic, which it wouldn't. So you get a superficial gloss of factish like sounding things, and some word combinations that are often seen in proximity to logic, but then devolve into name calling. 429 The only time polls are as somewhat accurate as they can get is when it's late October of election year, when everyone's (pollsters) reputation is on the line and amazingly and miraculously it always manages to "tighten" up in the (R) candidates favor. (usually after trailing by 10-20 points)

Any poll before then is suspect and basically push polling to change opinion, because there's absolutely nothing to disprove them.

Voting to pass articles ends them. Voting against it will set the activist left on them.

On top of ALL of that, their Party Platform is now 80% Unconsitutional.

509 They are going to have to take the vote for the proceeding.

Why? They can keep this stuff up forever, or at least as long as they have the majority in the House. Why stop? Why have a vote at all?

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at October 25, 2019 02:10 PM (KZzsI)

510 No, they're locked into keeping up this farce until
something they can distract their base with comes along. They have zero
intention of actually going to a vote, because its far, FAR from
certain they can succeed even with their own people.

The whole obkect of this Adam Schiff thing is so that the press can say the word impeachment every night on the news. As simple as that. Just say the word impeachemnt as though its a real piece of news.
"More on the impeachment proceedings..."

Except the impeachment proceedings are Adam Schiff's secret reports from his blanket tent fort in the cellar of the capitol.

My niece plays D-3 Lax and told me they were all straight as far as she knew. She said it was probably because they all hung out and drank beer with the boys Lax team after each other's games. Field Hockey and softball don't have that luxury. Basketball does , but the boys basketball players want to bang skinny white girls instead.

Its always been a political operation to shape public opinion. It is not and never was based in fact. See for example Mueller investigation. They have nothing, except control of the media.

We live under a tyranny of slander, defamation, and libel.

------

Here's some nuggets from my life and family.

*Both my parents went to one room country schools. Just like on Little house on the Prairie. My Dad occasionally rode the horse to school.

*I remember using the outhouse on Grandpas farm.

*I remember the well hand pump in the kitchen and Grandma cooking Thanksgiving dinner over a woodburning stove.

* I have a picture of 5 year old me "helping" Gramps build the bathroom add on to the farm house when the finally got indoor plumbing.

* Electricity didnt make to my Granparents farm until 1956.

I tell my kids these stories and they look at me like I came from Mars.

Take them to visit NorCal and they can still witness when electricity first arrives in rural locations. Hopefully next week.

520 There's not gonna be an impeachment. The "impeachment inquiry" has nothing to do with the sort. Its just the continuing inquisition from Meuller days when he fizzled out completely.

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at October 25, 2019 01:55 PM (KZzsI)

They've already found that they dare not let the Republicans question any of their witnesses, because they get better soundbytes than their morons do. They can't have public hearings or let the Reps be involved in any way due to the massive embarrassment of the last dozen interrogations.

And we are supposed to think this is a step forward that they have to hide in a secret room and leak tidbits that are exploded in hours?

This is the Mueller investigation repeating as farce.

Rural nothing. My workplace in the valley was blacked out most of yesterday afternoon, and not these planned fire blackouts either.

522 Yeah, no. Nancy is IN on Schiff's circus. She doesn't have to stand with him at press conferences. She does.

They don't for it now because they think they can do what they want without it. But Trump has said LOLGF on the concept of voteless impeachment, and Lindsey Graham is too.

They are not just going to give up on trying to subpoena stuff. They can't stop the juggernaut. They are going to have to take the vote for the proceeding.

Posted by: blaster at October 25, 2019 02:08 PM (ZfRYq)

I think they fear the minority being able to call witnesses and subpoena more than that, or they would have done it already.

I am doing my part to make it so. If and when "smapled" I am a registered Democrat who loves me some Tulsi, hopes Beto gets the VP slot, supports abolishing charter schools, and considered a trade deal with a "Brexited" UK a horrible mistake.

Just being a deplorable liar, after all, as expected and accused.

528 In my experience, "of counsel" meant someone who was not an associate, whether or not on partner track, and who was not a partner, i.e., not sharing in the firm's profits. They were paid a salary, often a very high salary, because they brought some peculiar expertise to the firm's practice. They were definitely not rainmakers bringing loads of new clients and work. I suppose that being able to fix a problem for a firm's regular client by a well-placed phone call could be considered a very peculiar kind of expertise.
