Entire Staff of Des Moines Register-Founded Bike Ride Across Iowa Resigns In Protest Over DMR's Scalp-Hunting of Good-Guy Carson King; Will Start Their Own Bike Challenge

America to the Media: You're fired.

The now-resigned director of the biking challenge explained that while the DMR absolutely refused to answer questions about their Scalp-Hunting of Carson King, they had the balls to issue pro-DMR-spin talking points to the bike challenge staff about how to answer questions about it.

So the director quit, and the staff quit with him.

And now the DMR will not be the organizer of a major amateur sporting event.

Found via Iowahawk, who tweets, "This is one hell of a shoe drop: the entire RAGBRAI (Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa) staff resigns en masse in protest over the DMRegister's Carson King fiasco, will start a new event with no affiliation to the paper," adding, "For you non-Iowans, let me explain that this is a Big F'ing Deal. RAGBRAI has been a beloved state institution since 1973, attracts tens of thousands of riders, and is a major source of goodwill for the Register. This is a major kick in their nuts."

Meanwhile, Mark Hemingway points out that Twitter is grappling over the problem of people's old tweets being searched for in order to scalp them. Wait, did I say they were worried about people's tweets being used to scalp them?

My mistake: Twitter is only concerned about journalists being scalped in this way. They're afraid that this might make journalists afraid to tweet.

Meanwhile, journalists can go on using Twitter as a Scalp-Hunting treasure map, because Twitter likes that. Fuck non-journalists. They're barely human.

From Ed Driscoll's write-up at Instapundit:

I would love to set all my tweets to just go private after a year, basically. And the reason is just that cultural standards change enough that I either have to delete all of the tweets on a regular basis or I could just set them private, right? Because we’ve now seen bad actors sort of digging into peoples’ old tweets, taking them out of context and wreaking all kinds of havoc. So, I would just love a way to never have to think about that again, basically…

I mean, journalists’ careers end because someone digs up an old tweet, you know?

Oh no we can't have people Scalp-Hunting the Scalp-Hunters. That would be totally unconstitutional or something.

By the way, there's a name for "bad actors" who go searching someone's twitter history to do a gratuitous and cruel, but easy and clickbaity, hit piece: we call them "journalists."

"Journalists" have been doing this for years.

Now someone's doing it to "journalists" and oh no it's a Moral Panic twitter must fix right now.

Flashback: that time the Russians invented time-travel and used it to hack Joy Reid's blog years before, to insert 9/11 truther conspiracy theories and antisemitic and anti-gay dog-whistles.

I can only hope that it spreads to wider society very soon. Journalists have earned the special treatment that so far only social media firms are providing.

Left rules, Derp.

When a conservative is accused of malfeasance, the accusation alone - so long as it comes from more than one person - is plenty of evidence to charge, convict and execute.

When a leftist is accused of malfeasance, anything less than a hand-written confession signed in blood is "no evidence."

170 DRM is owned by Gannett, which is engaged in a merger with Gatehouse. Found some interesting links looking that up - the merger is supposed to result in at least a 10% reduction in their combined 25,000 employee count. (probably much more) The new merged company will control 265 papers, but they are intending to use one centrally run template for all 265, for "synergy". (meaning - more job cuts)

Really fun news hidden in this - one source says that USA today is planning to suspend all print operations when the merger is finalized. It will continue, but as an online-only web page. Note that this is not confirmed.

188 yes. So they reported a profit. They had a positive EPS. Maybe they did fancy accounting but technically that is a profit. I think they said their profit margin was around 18 percent.

Now if you are asking have they been profitable from the life of the company, that would be another story though i am not going to look it up. But unless I am missing something, they just reported a profit for this quarter. And this was not the first one. I do think profitability has only come about in recent years though

These are people who have psychological breakdowns over pronoun "misuse" fer cryin' out loud. If they don't like you, they'll invent an excuse to get you muzzled.

251 I could see McConnell forcing Pelosi to argue why she and Schiff get to be the ones to determine if an impeachment has happened by sending anything that doesn't have a full House vote back down. Impeachment may be turning into the "Thing That The Democrats Wished For" horror story for them.

326 I don't understand why it was necessary to search for things in order to vilify him, it makes no sense to me.

Why attack him when he did nothing wrong? That's not a very nice way to treat a fellow American, now is it?

328 If Thomas Jefferson and Christopher Columbus can't escape the skeletons in their closets, how can your average dillweed on Twitter expect to come away unscathed?

We've essentially bred natural inquisitiveness and common sense out of upcoming generations, so moral equivalencies (without a moral foundation) and outrage become more important than truly great men and historical context.

330 Just this second got a news release from O'Keefe. Says Zucker actually sat in the control room while Tapper was interviewing Kellyanne Conway, telling him to go after her harder. He was feeding lines to Tapper.

*looks around* Can't find my shocked face.

~~~~~
Absolutely. It does the whole house except for air conditioning. After Sandy, I converted it to natural gas, which has been a blessing.
But I don't think I'll need it for this storm. It's just an ordinary Nor'Easter, and we'll get lots of them this season. I'm just worried about a couple of big maples in my yard dropping major branches.
343 We were Netflix customers before the streaming bullshit, just DVDs in the mail.
If you watched them too quickly all of a sudden they would slow down sending of them. Quit in 2010. Haven't missed them or the Pervywood tripe they push.
344 I get being angry with someone. I get hearing about something vile, and wishing the person who did that suffers some set back in their life at retribution.
But I don't get want to hurt someone you don't know, who does something good. It simply does not compute in my tiny brain.
If you are small and nasty, anyone doing better than you is a slight on your own self image. Pulling them down into the much with you makes you just as good as they are.
