Healthy 23-Year-Old Woman Trying to Expand Belgium's Already-Loose Euthanasia Laws, Saying She Should Be Allowed to Die Because She Just Can't Even

We used to trudge carefully over slippery slopes.

Now we're skiing down them shouting "YOLO!"

'It won't hurt so I don't see the problem,' she says.

'It is like going to sleep, and for the first time in my life it will be quick. I won't be lying in bed waiting for it to come.'

In almost every place on the planet, this would be a huge problem. But Belgium is one of three countries that permit such euthanasia, making no distinction between 'unbearable' physical and mental pain. The other two are Holland and Luxembourg.

Yet even in Belgium -- which, 17 years ago, became the world's second country to sanction euthanasia and the first to legalise it for children -- psychiatric cases remain controversial, especially when they involve someone as young as Kelly. Mental health patients account for about three per cent of the 17,000 people killed since the law was changed in this country of 11 million citizens. There were 2,357 deaths last year -- ten times as many as in the first year euthanasia was legal in Belgium -- and most involved elderly people.

Many psychiatrists and most Belgians oppose extension of euthanasia to mental health cases. Some experts argue diagnosis is subjective, unlike severe physical illness, and insist the lives of distressed younger patients can improve with time, therapy and medication.

Yet Kelly, whose birthday is this week, plans to die as soon as legally possible so has no time for such arguments. 'It feels like discrimination,' she said. 'It makes me angry. It's just not fair. They don't understand the pain.

'People look at me and see someone so young but I feel bad inside all the time. It is not the age that is important but the suffering of the person.'

The article says that she is the introverted twin sister of an extrovert, and her twin's liveliness and social ease made her further withdrawn. She says she's now plagued by "crippling" shyness.

Sympathies for a troubled person, but this doesn't seem like a state-authorized suicide level complaint.

Oh, and the patient taking the LSD is in a safe, calm environment with constant medical staffs' attention. In some cases, the patient has a bad trip and relives whatever caused the PTSD/severe depression in the first place, but the results afterward were of relief, happiness, and feelings of joy, that can last for several months. And no more depression/anxiety drugs.

Pretty interesting.

176 The problem with LSD in particular, and most psychadelics in general, is that one does doesn't end it. Your brain stores that and and can replay it every so often, without pattern or warning. In other words: you get another free trip, later, and sometimes more than one. But this time, without a clinic or date and time, and without nurses watching over you.

Further, there's been so little actual study as to the psychological damage and long-term effect on the mind from taking this stuff that its pretty unwise to be playing around with it in terms of some sort of treatment. We still are learning things about how alcohol affects the brain, and we've been hitting the sauce practically since humans have walked.

200 The difference between a furry and cosplay (or dressing up for Halloween) is that cosplay is someone wearing a costume for fun, for an event. Furry is a lifestyle.

You don't really think you're Iron Man deep down because you build an Iron Man costume out of PVC. You might play like you are while you wear it for the convention or to pose for pictures, but you know its just a hot uncomfortable bunch of plastic that gets you slightly buzzed from the glue.

Furries think they are deep down in their spirit this sort of animal and create a whole role persona in their suit, living it out.

He got the woman from Arkansas pregnant during the time he was screwing his dead brother's wife.

And his wife's divorce papers say he left her with barely enough
money to take care of their kids, because he was spending all his money
(and this asshole was making millions a year off his graft) on hookers
and cocaine.

The graft, the crack pipes, the whores, the dead brother's wife, it

She's not talking about suicide. That would be a moral issue, and an issue between her and her family, and generally not any one else's business (at least, that's one way to look at it).

The problem is that she wants someone ELSE to shoulder the moral, legal and emotional consequences of taking a life. Also, it perverts the medical profession's primary ethos of "do no harm".

The biggest problem in my mind is that it gets the government in the habit of killing it's own citizens, absent the obvious law enforcement/security exceptions to the social contract. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't want a fucking unelected government bureaucrat passing judgement on whether I live or die. And this euthanasia thing is a very real slippery slope into that abyss.

But they were cranky before they knew this about me, a group of three guys, and one hipster dude finally gave me one of the two seats he was perched on.
We passed a beautiful old windmill, I turned in delight to tell them their country is beautiful. Not one would meet my eyes. Bastids. They speak English, Finnish and French, so no excuse there except I was an apparently hated American. And I never felt this snub anywhere else I traveled.

I've tripped probably 100 plus times, mostly acid (a lot pharmaceutical) mirror image, as well as mushrooms and peyote. Yes, you can bum out on anything. The only time things got really, really weird for me was peyote. Twice. I've had friends very unhappy on peyote as well, shrooms can also be very strong. Problem with naturals is you're still kind of guessing the dose, just like you can have 10 hot peppers, but a couple are OMG!

IMHO, it's the in-between dose that you don't want. You don't want to be taking enough where you begin to fight it, the part where you've still got yourself planted in reality is where it gets uncomfortable. Because your ego is fighting to keep you together and grounded. You want to jump on that rocket and go. The times I was 100% totally and completely gone were the best times, reentry is the only part of the trip it gets a little dicey (3rd bardo).

https://t.co/qAKs5sA3z8

"This is awful. Did you know for years @JoeBiden told people his wife and 13-month-old daughter were killed by a drunk driver, when in fact the accident was tragically her fault. The truck driver was haunted by the accident until he died"

-------

Although Dunn was not at fault and was quick to render assistance, he was haunted by the accident for the rest of his life. Dunn passed away in 1999, 27 years later, but as his daughter told the Post, "He always got very solemn around Christmastime because the anniversary was Dec. 18, and he never wanted to celebrate the holidays."

After an exhaustive online search, I can find no mention of Biden ever apologizing to Hamill or to her family. And that POLITICO piece by Michael Kruse I quoted above? It was headlined, "How Grief Became Joe Biden's Superpower," which is enough to make you sick after learning how Biden twisted the facts -- and his own grief -- for, what, a slicker stump speech?

333 This story reminds me of the movie Me Before You...its about a billionaire handsome quadriplegic who falls in love with his quirky nurse (played by the Queen of Dragons). She in turn falls in love with him. He has BILLIONS of dollars, has every need taken care of, could last until there are possible treatments, and still decides to end it all, against his Father's and his girlfriend's wishes.

All because he once was a playboy and ran with the rich and famous, and because of an injury, can't do that anymore.

Movie ends with him dead via one of those fancy death clinics in Holland, and with the girlfriend getting a million bucks inheritance so she can travel to some foreign city, smiling while thinking of him. Like that was a satisfactory ending?!

I finished that movie absolutely non-plussed. The inside of a liberal mind is a scary, scary place.

346 Movie ends with him dead via one of those fancy death clinics in Holland, and with the girlfriend getting a million bucks inheritance so she can travel to some foreign city, smiling while thinking of him. Like that was a satisfactory ending?!

Because, God FORBID the characters should learn something and change. You know: have a story arc!

Leftists are sick. Their characters in films NEVER learn anything. They're always right from the word go and right at the end.

Will discuss euthanasia class with husband, who will probably just throw me to the wolves with a shovel and tell me to deal.
I do hope and pray I don't get the bulb addiction again next summer when the catalogues arrive by mail.

Now that you mention it, I sort of noticed that over there.

Everyone is trying way too hard to laugh and be witty as they hang out in restaurants and pubs. The cigarette-posing is unbearable (if you're sane).

That's why they're all so leftist: because all their "jokes" are nothing but piling on; mocking the stuff "that everyone agrees is stupid." Their humor is decidedly hive-mind oriented.

I must have looked like a serial killer wandering around by myself and talking to no one.

371 nobody went to war to save Belgium. Belgium was the football field that all the armies stomped on while they were trying to kill each other for other reasons. They were Bambi caught in between Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah.

Posted by: Tom Servo at October 17, 2019 04:56 PM (Kpl3J)

Belgium ultimately won the war for France. Germany expected them to step aside while they drove on Paris. Their stubborn resistance stopped the German Army just long enough for the French to make a stand at the First Battle of the Marne. The Germans had to dig in and the trenches were off to the races.

373 Seriously, why doesn't she just take a handful of doxylamine succinate (OTC sleeping pills) and be done with it? She still gets to drift off to a final sleep and she doesn't have to use the government to force someone to help her do it. It really is that easy. But, that presumes that she is actually suicidal and wants to get the job done, and not just an attention whore desperate to finally upstage the extroverted twin sister.

If life was truly unbearable, she'd take a handful of socialized medicine pills or use a rope and a tree and off herself the low-key, old-fashioned way. She wants to be the center of attention, and she can't compete with her sister.
