The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg

"A while back, Google helped the People's Republic of China build a crappier version of the internet, one that does not have anything in it that would not offend the commie mandarins who run the joint. The Google suits made the decision that they would rather be paid a bunch of money from the PRC than to maintain the integrity of their search engine.

"By doing this, they enabled the mandarins to increase the efficiency of their totalitarian oppression of their own people. Which kind of makes a laughingstock of their "don't be evil" corporate slogan, but hey, this was just a business deal, nothing personal, I'm sure Google would say.

"So, by kowtowing to the PRC, the NBA really isn't doing anything that Google hasn't already done first. And, for that matter, the US Government, who has been outsourcing the national debt to the PRC for a number of years now.

"And it's sadly comical to see a SJW loudmouth like Steve Kerr, who has never been shy about offering his political opinions before, suddenly go all coy and demure when asked about China. It reminds me of, well, the bad old Cold War days when progressives did everything they could to condemn the United States while deflecting from, defending, and justifying whatever perfidy the USSR was doing at the time. And back then, the progressive rule was, America could do no right, and the Soviet Union could do no wrong. This rule applied not only to the USSR, but also Cuba, or Nicaragua, or whatever commie police state was en vogue.

"Then they'd get huffy when you questioned their patriotism.

"All in all, I like the idea of global capitalism, the free flow of goods and services across international boundaries, low or no tariffs or taxes, but there are still a few glitches that need to be ironed out."

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com), as I will be filling in for Fenelon Spoke on the prayer list, for the next 1-2 months while Fenelon recuperates. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, please feel free to copy and paste it and email it to me.

Updates and new requests:

9/4-Fox2! asks for prayers for his friend MaryBeth, who entered eternal life yesterday, and her friend and caregiver, Norm, and her family.

This in NOT because we don’t care; It’s simply because of lack of space. Updates as well as thanks for answered prayer and new prayer requests are always welcome. Please feel free to copy requests which you see on the board and send them to apaslo@hotmail.com. I won’t know unless someone tells me! Thank you and God bless!

8 A Saga Continues:

"Hi, I'm Caitlin and this is still the Situation Room without Wolf Blitzer who is on a spirit quest. He's crazy so he won't be back. The Democrat Debate happened and here to discuss it is Anderson Cooper. It isn't like I watched that stupid show."

A long pause.

"So, like, what happened? I haven't got all day."
"The horror," Cooper whispers. "It was all horrible."
"Like what? Horribly lame? Horribly boring? Horrible what?"
"I-I saw things at HR, during #MeToo training but this, this was terrible, the raw humanity, the primal animal within revealed...."
Cooper remains staring at a distant horizon as his jaw slowly unhinges.
Caitlin looks up from her phone and stops texting. "Ooooookaaaaay. Mandy, could you just run the highlights?"

***

The debate, chaos on stage.

To one side Buttigieg yells at Beto "You're just a furry! A skateboarding furry! I was in Afghanistan and I'm gay!"
Beto responds, screaming "Gun lover! Murderer!" before getting into a slapfight.

Biden sniffs Kamala's hair, saying "Gee, you smell just like wildflowers - AHHHH! My bloody eye!" as Harris maces him.
"That's the real police stuff, you oaf! Now for the fun part - police brutality!" as she starts clubbing him like a Canadian on a seal.

Kobuchar has Booker in a headlock while screaming "Say my name! Say my name! Say it! Say it!"
Sobbing, Booker stutters "An-Angry Amy! You're Angry Amy!"
"You got that right!"

In the center Warren stands and points around yelling "This will all go on your permanent records! Do you hear me? Your permanent records!"

And Bernie froths and clutches at his chest, pointing overhead, choking out the word "You!"

The camera pans skyward to show a large golden dirigible overhead, the message board on the side flashing "Socialism Sucks! Trump Rules, You Drool! MAGA Life!"

The footage stops, Caitlin muttering "Maybe I should have watched that, it was better than the last Stranger Things. That's all we have for today, so like I'm out of here."

76 The biggest flaw of global free trade is that it assumed that capital was immobile, and thus that the advantages in producing one product or another were fixed.

The flight of factories from the Western nations to the developing world proved otherwise, leaving hollow economies. Vast regions were left without economic drivers, but since it didn't affect the think tanks or Wall Street, the "experts" never deigned to worry about the results of implementing their policies.

It has become abundantly clear to any rational observer that industrial retention is important, as a first-world economy cannot be sustained by selling each other cheeseburgers and mowing lawns. The "service economy" has been a snake eating its own tail, subsisting off of accumulated wealth while producing none itself.

While tariffs are not optimal, they do have a useful role in re-leveling the playing field against abusers (such as China) who engage in currency manipulation, subsidized dumping, and other shenanigans.

92 >>"So, by kowtowing to the PRC, the NBA really isn't doing anything that Google hasn't already done first. And, for that matter, the US Government, who has been outsourcing the national debt to the PRC for a number of years now.

I think Google and Hollywood got away with it (more so Google) because we understand that they are international businesses. We've been hearing about international box office numbers for decades, so even if we don't like the China-friendly content, we get it.

However, the NBA is an American sports league, so it strikes a sour note when we discover they are willingly, happily bowing to China. Pair that with 3+ years of athletes kneeling for #BLM, starting with the NFL but quickly spreading to preachy NBA stars and beyond, and the hypocricy meter goes off the charts.

It's too much. They've personally insulted us for several years, calling us racist and saying we can take our offense and shove it, but the Chinese audience/government gets special consideration? Too much, guys, you've shown yourselves to be the worst kind of SJW posers, happy to trade your morality for some Nike and NBA jersey profits.

Y'know, I've long had a jones (not a long jones, which perhaps explains some things) for a Ferrari 550/575M, but the idea of paying someone else $200/hr plus ridiculous marked-up parts prices to work on the thing bugged me. Looking through the service manual shows that, while the service intervals are short, the procedures are straightforward. Some of the tools, though, while simple, are pricey.

Apparently the diagnostic tool I have/use/license to work on the proletarian vehicles in the household now supports pretty much all the Ferrari systems, for relative peanuts.

Maybe I should get into the Ferrari service tool business. Then I can write off the car purchases...

Very interesting perspecitive, and he said he believes his colleagues in the House do not have any idea what the protestors are about and why they are risking their lives to do this. He said he is going to be talking one on one to as many as he can to explain the demand for keeping democracy in Hong Kong and what China is doing to suppress it.

Then he had on a guy from Barstool Sports, ( sorry again can't remember name) who absolutely scorched Lebron. Not only took apart his statement about China, Morey , etc. but stated that Lebron has been nothing but a hypocrite since he came on the scene in basketball in HS, and basically echoed what I said yesterday about LeBron. Yeah, Ripley wakes up and there's a scene with a recording of her daughter telling her off for abandoning her in a recording because she's already dead.

I don't like the special edition as much as the theatrical edition. It feels flabby in ways that the original doesn't and the added stuff doesn't add that much.

Love him or hate him, Donald Trump has charisma. And if those who hate him so desperately could be objective in the slightest, they'd have to concede he is a funny guy. Bloomberg has all the charisma of a turnip (apologies to turnips everywhere), and I've never even seen him smile once. Fill a stadium? 308 boycotting the NBA is a decent idea but I think already they are pretty niche. I think the people showing up with pro freedom in Hong Kong signs will really annoy them. They have already thrown people out over this. In this case, calling them out respectfully seems to be the best play.

In this case i don't think you can hurt their bottom line as much as their image. If they are against free speech and social justice in there big market, China, make them say it over and over.

What I was primarily objecting to were the detours into Ripley's and Newt's backstories. You don't need to know *any* of that in order for the plot to advance..

==========

It's not really plotting, but more like the extra character stuff is nice but doesn't change the nature of the relationship between the two.

Ripley having a daughter she left behind and taking on Newt? It's a nice added wrinkle to the story, but the relationship between her and Newt is strong enough as it is.

Alien is about the destruction of a family, and Aliens is about the creation of a new family. They work remarkably well with that in mind. Ripley's family in the first was the crew. She was a daughter figure to Muthur who turned on the whole family. She becomes a woman over the course of the movie and takes on a family in the second.

This is a fascinating topic for me because I played basketball for a long time and interacted with some reasonably good players. So much of basketball is repetition of things that work which is why organized teams do drills so much to make things instinctive so that you consciously don't have to think of doing them; like being part of background processing. Some of my best performances have included making shots that I just took without thinking and subsequently had no idea how it happened but it worked. Also there have been out of body experiences where I thought of the court like a chess board and I was one of the pieces.

LeBron goes through that at an infinitely higher level. I got my car washed a few weeks ago at a place that had a door sized blowup of near the end of the Cavs championship game in 2016 when LeBron blocked a layup of Andre Iguodala. Leaving aside that his head was level with the rim, what made me stare at it for over a minute was the concentration on the ball and blocking it without it being goal tending.

LeBron might be brainless when he opens his yap but when he's on the court he's processing a lot of data in his noggin.

It's called a director's cut, but it's not actually a director's cut.

Some Fox editors assembled a new cut with about 15 minutes of new stuff added in. Scott watched it, hated it, and recut the movie to include the new stuff by taking out old stuff so it flowed better.

I've never seen the director's cut, by the way. The original is perfect as it is.

I saw some leftist outlet (maybe nevertrumper) saying that it was sad that Trump had been following very good policy on Ukraine until he started listening to all of the nutty conspiracy stories that had been fabricated by the Far Right. (meaning people like us) And that if he hadn't listened to us, he'd have been in great shape and no one would be attacking him. (I know, I know).

The Final Cut is the way to go.

Some of the rough edges of the Director's cut have gotten shaved down.

And yeah, the voice over of the theatrical is terrible. I know some people love it (Guillermo del Toro, for one prominent example), but Ford's readings are flat and bored while explaining what we see instead of adding interesting flavor.

324 If Nike is committing acts of aggression on behalf of China, perhaps they could be subjected to fines, if not blockades. Perhaps Trump could tweet a question about corporations that are acting in behalf of the communist regime, against American and shareholder interest.

It would take lawyers to craft the arguments better than I can, but there is certainly coercion involved ... and if Lebron has a corporate/commie minder speaking in his ear, then that is commie infiltration/subversive activity. Racketeering laws maybe could apply, or other practices that would/should be illegal in the US.

it may be that is why the rules are relaxed in Ukraine, and why so many love to go over there (or Russia/Saudi Arabia/etc) to collect their bribes. The globalists love to operate on "their" fake international law platform, escaping US law. Same with many of the tax free foundations that are really political op machines for the oligarchs, more command and control than charity. (the heart of the DeepState financing?)

330 You know, there would be no national debt to "outsource" to China if we, oh, I don't know, paid our bills and demanded the same level of efficiency from the federal government that we demand from, say, Apple.

But the United States simply is not a serious country. People will very, very cheerfully vote for people who promise to bribe us with our own money - even if it's money we don't have - and then when there is $22 trillion in debt, we'll point the finger at everyone else and whine that it's everyone else's fault.

By the way, I am curious: Japan will occasionally be the largest foreign holder of Treasuries but no one does any shrieking about that. Why? Once it's China, it's suddenly the end of the world - never mind that, once again, if we have no Treasuries to sell because we suddenly become a serious country that cares about such things, neither China nor Japan nor anyone else would have treasuries to buy.
