64 Very different from Stevens' usual works. Instead of the bright and colorful scenes of elegant women, this uses blocks of darker almost drab colors with little detail. The only lighted areas are on the figures and faces of the two women, which focuses the viewers attention. Even the police or soldiers are basically part of the background by comparison.

Not a happy image for a home. Maybe it was intended for display in a gallery.

95 I can't tell you how much I despise Microsoft.

Just getting into 4K video editing and production work, so I had to buy a new computer to handle the job. Sadly DaVinci Resolve won't run on my Windows 7 machine, and 8 gig of memory isn't enough to do significant video editing. So I wound up with an I Core 7 9400 processor which has 8 each 64 bit processors, 3 levels of Cache and 16 gigs of memory sadly running Windows 10.
Windows 10's assortment of who cares - razmataz features - manages to bring that computer to its knees; it doesn't feel any faster than a Pentium 60 running Windows 95. What makes Windows 10 even worse is that things which were easily done on my Windows 7 machine - like calibrating and profiling my monitor are a huge hassle on Windows 10; it took me 2 hours to figure out how to get the driver for my spectrometer to work.

Have I told you how much I despise Microsoft?

117 So, a lot of the conventional wisdom on the right is settling around the Dems are using impeachment merely to "dirty" Trump and run on that to win.

There's one, huge problem with that--if they don't bring actual, real, not "this is what some one heard" proof, they're f'ed in the A.

Clinton had lied--sure they spun it as about sex, but it was still a lie. Actual, admitted evidence.
And the public still didn't think that was enough--even with the courts thinking it was enough to disbarr him!

The public is going to expect more than "if you take what he said here, put it over next to that event there, look at it in the worst possible light, ignore any other interpretation, squint your eyes and click your heels together then-- quid pro quo!"

And that's all they have--for 3+ years the same people promised proof of Russia collision. And they lied.
Even had the media top to bottom spin the Muller report as proof.
And the public said, "no, not buying it"

So, what in saying is, they have to deliver rock-solid PROOF of a crime.

Because if they don't, the public is going to slaughter them.
The claims of "Trump is so dirty, we almost, nearly, came so close to thinking about impeaching him!" is a death trap campaign.

The Dems may think they can play this as mere politics, but the public is taking it seriously

I mean, what good does posting at the correct time here in the U.S. do, when we all know Canadian Time is worth only 49 seconds to the minute?

And don't *even* get me started on U.K. time, which they measure in units of weight, like "pound" and "stone".

Tha's right! And 'ettes' timepieces are required, by immutable economic law, to be 75 minutes behind 'rons'.

Though, on reading further about the painting, this was encouraging.

My family of four food monthly food budget for everything, restaurants and groceries, is $400 (and I think that's extravagant).

196 169 I've discussed it before, but the monthly food stamp allotment for a family of four is somewhere around $700. That's all free money for "cold" food like Fruit Loops, Lunchables, t-bone steaks, and pork butt for the smoker, of course. They can buy their Five Guys with their other money.

My family of four food monthly food budget for everything, restaurants and groceries, is $400 (and I think that's extravagant).

To your first point: I assure you neither of us is feasting Henry VIII style. To your second point: Nobody other than our own family is subsidizing our meals. We all paid our fair share of taxes - and then some - over the decades.

In my case, the assistance is temporary, I'm still interviewing and applying for jobs, just haven't hit the Sweet Spot yet. In my brother's, it was not his fault he suffered repeated head trauma and became disabled.

In closing I will say that I actually like beans and rice, and having been raised by a grandmother who experienced true hunger, I know how to s-t-r-e-c-h the food staples.

I think the gauziness of the charges and process helped. "Mueller is coming and he's gonna prove that Trump is Putin's cockholster" seems to have carried a lot of weight with people. It also helped that it was entirely out of the legislature's hands, so people weren't expecting Representatives to actually do much of anything about it.

Now, though, we have the flip side of the problem where the legislature hands off rule making power to the executive to keep their hands clean for the voters. It's not an executive branch thing anymore, it's purely a legislative branch thing now. It's akin to voting on unpopular legislation (like the ACA), except Democrats won't bring it to a vote and are defining the party nationally around something that's both unpopular and won't go away.

It's a weird place they've put themselves in.

Because the plan was "but the cover-up!!!"

And they would have had Trump dead to rights there-- if he had listened to the snakes in the IC that threatened all sorts of "serious, dire consequences" if Trump released the transcript or even the complaint.

Remember early on one of their kept conservatives tweeted that Trump was worse than Nixon because at least Nixon stonewalled for good reasons?

That was laying the groundwork

The reason the Dems are flailing about now is that they didn't have a backup plan ....

They're abusing the shit out of it. They're trying to get all the things they've wanted for the past three years like Trump's tax returns. This "impeachment inquiry" is nothing but an unconstitutional bill of attainder. Trump should start suing the shit of Congress.

Then, at some point in the future, there needs to be a Constitutional amendment more clearly defining the entire impeachment process.

248 Interestingly, I'm right now in a long, boring mandatory Skype meeting on Conflict of Interest.

So, based on the principles discussed, I started typing up these bulletpoints:

1. Ukraine is corrupt.
2. Joe Biden was in charge of American policy toward Ukraine.
3. Joe Biden determined that a proper focus was to root out corruption in Ukraine.
4. The type of thing that a corrupt culture might do is to leverage favors for a family member against the people who have authority over them.
5. Joe Biden proved he had such power, by getting the Prosecutor General of Ukraine fired in 6 hours, by leveraging 1 billion in American aid, which is documented as under his discretion.
6. Thus we have power and what could be seen as a favor to a family member.
7. The assumption of corruption within Ukraine invites suspicion against prominant Ukrainian business entities--especially with a significant role of an "oligarch".
8. Thus this is an apparent conflict of interest, because this is precisely the type of thing that a corrupt business entity in a corrupt culture would do to curry favor.
9. Biden doesn't appear to know much about corruption.

Lee's plan was to have Confederate cavalry flank far around and attack the Union position from the rear.

But a young union officer out on a calvalry patrol discovered the much larger Confederate calvalry column. Whithout hesitation they Union officer ordered his much smaller cavalry force to charge the Confederate column, halting the flanking maneuver and forcing the Confederate cavalry to withdraw.

That Union Officer was Gerorge Armstrong Custer.

==========

In terms of the kangaroo court, I agree.

In terms of legislation productivity, I've never been convinced that the American public cares about that concept.

I think they care about legislation that affects them negatively (ACA and amnesty in 2006, for example), whether passed or not. If legislation gets talked about that the American people are convinced will hurt them, then they'll be willing to act out against the party in power. Legislation that helps them? They don't seem to care in terms of rewarding that.

But no legislation? I really don't think people care about that kind of productivity.

Impeachment obsession, though, is a different animal. It's like unpopular legislation that doesn't pass but consumed the news cycle for months.

Trump will have the best economy in at least 50 years. Recored low unemployment. Trade deals with a number of countries including the USMCA and China. No new wars. A failed coup behind him. Evidence of the real collusion in 2016 and beyond and an incredibly angry and determined base who will turnout in record numbers.

Brad Parscale has been tweeting out for months that one of the big reasons for the rallies is not just to pump up the base but to identify voters in every state he goes to by ticket requests. The numbers coming out of Minnesota were eye popping including a third of the attendees being registered Democrats.

During the 2016 cycle Trump had one part time person on the ground in Minnesota and they left to go to Colorado before the election which Trump lost in MN by less than 2%. He already has 20 people on the ground organizing more than a year before the election. And this is Minnesota.

Anyone who thinks Trump doesn't plan down to the most minute detail hasn't been watching him. Polls are a useless joke. Watch what's happening on the ground.

Elizabeth Warren is a decent choice for sacrificial lamb.

She's got feet in both wings of the party. She's definitely leftist, but she's also apparently friendly with the Establishment quite a bit.

A loss for her leads to neither major wing being able to completely attribute the loss to the other. It could lead to a status quo post 2020 Democratic Party, held together by scotch tape instead of an automatic giant fight.

334 Lee's plan was to have Confederate cavalry flank far around and attack the Union position from the rear.

But a young union officer out on a calvalry patrol discovered the
much larger Confederate calvalry column. Whithout hesitation they Union
officer ordered his much smaller cavalry force to charge the
Confederate column, halting the flanking maneuver and forcing the
Confederate cavalry to withdraw.

That Union Officer was Gerorge Armstrong Custer.

It was a variety of factors, up to and including previous frontal assaults against prepared positions that had worked. But it was madness and arrogance to assume that even if a penetration had been made, that it would have resulted in a victory the Confederates could have afforded.

Longstreet had over all command of the attack. It was his job to coordinate the whole thing. Hell, Pickett was only one division, there were two others and all under Longstreet.

Not to get into it in too much detail right now but there was supposed to be some artillery that went forward with the infantry and that did not happen. There were also some units that were supposed to move forward in support if there was a breach but they did not do so until it was too late.

Either way it was a high wire act that had to work perfectly. Lee himself said he asked too much from his infantry because they had always been able to do what he asked. This time he asked too much. But I still say it was not foolish scheme or gallant throwback as many believe.

Yes he was. But I would note if you've never been to the Devils Den you cannot understand how disorienting that terrain is. Reading about it does not give you an understanding of the terrain inflicts. Just one of those weird areas in the world that scramble your sense of direction.

405 Longstreet is known to have believed in the defense because of Gettysburg. But he attacked strong defenses at other times including after Gettysburg. And frontal assaults were done and successful in that war. You can't always draw a maxim from one engagement. Yes, Picket's Charge failed, but that does not mean charges always failed in that war. Hell, they all wanted to be on the defense, dug in, with a lot more men. But that was not always the hand they were dealt.

406 I thought the failure was mainly due to ineffective artillery fire....over ranged.

that was part of it for sure. The fuses were supposedly poor and the rounds went off past the objective. Too bad for many Union troops and commanders that they had people in the rear too.

Bombardments like that were rarely as effective as hoped. There was really no reason for the CSA to think a duel with the USA artillery would result in some great advantage. And since the USA was mainly dug in, they held back a lot of fire until after the CSA bombardment was over and when they could really do some damage to troops in the open.

407 "Trump will have the best economy in at least 50 years. Recored low unemployment."

Time for him to shift gears from just bragging about it to warning that the Dems are trying to make it go away just to grab power. Pound on that message for a while!
