Dave Chappell's Anti-SJW Comedy Show Gets 0% Rating from Critics, 99% from Audience

It had been at 0%, but just went up to 17% thanks to a non-SJW YouTube reviewer.

The SJWs are very, very upset that someone out there isn't obeying them.

"Sticks & Stones" is Chappelle’s fifth comedy special in three years produced for Netflix, with total control by Chappelle. While each special has been met with critical acclaim, every one has also kicked a hornet's nest of self-righteous anger belonging to overly sensitive Twitter users, bloggers, and "comedy reporters," who now believe comedians should have to abide by a code of wokeness.

Chappelle succeeds, however, because he simply does not yield. He does not apologize. He makes jokes-- really funny jokes -- and no matter how many angry tweets and horrified reviews emerge, he persists.

"Sticks & Stones" takes an inward look at how Chappelle’s comeback has affected the new landscape of comedy-bashing harpies, and he takes specific aim, with a big comedy blowtorch, at those trying to stop him from being him.

"Is this really the world you want to create?" he asks the crowd after jokingly telling them they are "celebrity hunters" intent on bringing everyone down for anything they have said at any point. He addressed previous criticism over his making jokes about transgender issues and said, "The alphabet people [LGBTQ]" specifically had it out for him. "The T's hate my f-cking guts," he says before launching into a hysterical analogy of how the very different varieties of people somehow grouped together by letters would get along in a long car trip.

Some bits from the show below. The abortion bit is edgy but it has a twist: After leading his liberal audience down the garden path of clapper affirmations, stating that a woman's right to choose cannot be questioned, he causes a lot of cognitive dissonance when he announces that, by the same logic, a man's right to choose not to support a baby he doesn't want is every bit as unquestionable.

"And if I'm wrong," he concludes, "then maybe we're [both] wrong."

I just saw the show. I was only a moderate fan of Dave Chappelle's. He was like Louis CK to me -- a guy I thought was kind of funny but who I never understood all the hype about.

Or, 20+ years ago: Jon Stewart. He's okay for an MTV comic, but what's with all the shrieking about a fairly generic and safe-for-corporate-gigs NY comedian?

To be honest, I'd get annoyed when I had to keep hearing about what geniuses any of these guys were. Hey, they're professional comics. Yeah, they're funny. They earn their checks.

Can we just leave it at that?

I thought this show was funny. It's not any kind of all-time comedy show. But it was indeed pretty funny.

Overhyped? Maybe, a bit.

But some of that hype is deserved.

I don't mind the hype this time because I understand it: People saw this show and suddenly remembered, "Oh right, we used to see comics to occasionally hear unspeakable truths and we'd be electrified by the sudden liberation from the shackles of groupthink and corporate-sponsored lies."

To that extent, this show is important,> even if I'm still kind of meh on the genius of Dave Chappelle. Or Louis CK.

Maybe people will remember what it used to be like to be Free Men and Women, and start to resent that illiberal scolds with severe mental disorders have turned us into zombified slaves.

On to the clips.

By the way, you know which "comic" with a Netflix schedule really did light up the critics' erogenous zones?

This hilarious specimen.

More hilarity here. Apparently this Yelled Lecture is a highlight of her "show."

All she seems to be doing is re-telling a Twitter Beef where she thinks she finished the exchange with a #SickBurn.

And I resent her for that -- that's a job for a man. Specifically, for Ben Howe, who wrote a "book" which is basically just some #TwitterBurnz he couldn't think of in real time.

100% on Rotten Tomatoes, baby.

60% audience rating, and that's almost certainly skewed by Charity SJW reviews.

22 I watched the special last week.

It was funny enough. But back in 2016, I initially supported Trump in the primaries for nothing more than he was the one kicking the hornet's nest. He was the one flipping things on its ear, and I wanted the thing flipped on its ear.

I'll do the same for Chappelle. It's not about the comedy, it's about flipping the current system on its ear until it breaks.

34 I watched it. It was funny. And the short summary on Netflix is misleading, imo.
Chappelle's gotten some credit, I suspect, due to his attitude toward what he does. Plus, as is clear in the special, he really doesn't care what The Powers That Be are pushing. The Powers That Be have declared that thou shalt not mock the Ts. Chappelle ignores the prohibition. And not only does he mock them, but he makes a quick comment pointing out that they'll destroy womens' sports.

44 I went back to watch the first four Chappelle Show eps last week. I agree it was funny, but firmly mid-tier as far as black comics were concerned mid 2000s. I was dating a black chick at the time so I got treated to a lot of black comics.

to quite a bit of Tyler Perry too.

My verdict was that they were all very good. There's something to be said for the thesis that pain produces art. Also conducive to art is the ability not to give too much of a shit about what other people think of you.

So, re Chappelle: very good for a white comic, but mid-range for black comics, because on average black comics are funnier than white ones.

We have similar taste.

David Spade is just really funny in natural conversation settings, very quick wit, etc. His actual comedy standup routine is just good, but not stellar.

Chris Rock is probably the most overrated and over paid comedian. He had one stellar production "Bring the Pain" and has basically been cashing a check from that for 20+ years.

He's not everybody's cup of tea and that's ok. For me the special was hilarious.

He basically goes on to skewer all of the sacred ox's in today's culture. From Anthony Bourdain's suicide, Michael Jackson, the Alphabet People, Guns, being poor etc.

It isn't a walk in the park for conservatives either, but there isn't anything wrong with that. The bit comparing the White Opioid Crisis to the Crack Epidemic in the Black community was done really well. It all manages to be really funny in the end, even if it does really vulgar in some spots.

These types are not only not Leftists, but they are sounding the alarm to their large, Dem leaning audiences and encouraging them to resist the totalitarian tide engulfing our government and culture.

This is a moment of existential importance, and our quibbles about the long lost battles of the past can wait until the true enemy is beaten.

129 Theology with Marianne "Witch" Williamson.

She told the crowd the story of David and Goliath, about how she'' s going to be like David and defeat Trump with just a slingshot. "We're going to get him right between the eyes," she said. "David got Goliath in his third eye, where he wasn't prepared - where he had no defense." The third eye, she explained, was Trump's ego and his inability to see clearly. It was his instinct to divide the country along the old fault lines of hatred and greed and apathy toward suffering. The slingshot, which was small but mighty, was, of course, love. Love was her entire platform. She believed that if we were to look at all the country's problems through the prism of love, we could undo everything from poverty to climate change to the immigration crisis.

182 Is decarbonizing the new term, replacing carbon neutral?

Makes me laugh that the story about Prince Harry being flown in private jets all over the world and preaching about carbon emissions...then Elton John pipes up and says that when he flew Prince Harry last month on his private jet, it was a 'carbon neutral' trip.

Because he offset the carbon produced by the jet by paying carbon credits.

See?! There's no pollution if you just pay the indulgence!! Decarbonized! Poof!! Problem solved!

220 with all the RACISM hysteria, Chappell gives people permission to laugh at racist jokes .. or jokes about Jussie's racist attack on MAGA people. Seems likely that a white guy telling the exact same joke, same style ... people would be uptight about white guy laughing and black gay Jussie.

Sure, in this case it is a little different, but PC Laws get suspended for the special classes. Going way back to Bill Cosby, he was all the rage ... I'm not convinced he was so incredibly funny ... sure he had the facial things, and the various voices ... but hey hey Fat Albert ... not really society changing deep probing, breaking of porcelain norms ... or maybe I'm just old and cranky, idk.

Eddie Murphy, playing with GI Joe in the tub ... funny? OK, do kids really do that? There is a level of virtue signaling that was "dating a black guy" maybe, or "hey, I relate to the black man's humor, proves I'm not racist". But some may just be that they can joke about what has become "illegal" for whitey to joke about ...

About 70% of "Sticks & Stones" was good comedy content. There was a lot of unfinished material that had the core of a good joke, but was either too long (his GiLBerT car joke) or not well presented.

Even the good stuff could have used some polish.

I don't know if he was naturally genius before and he's losing his touch or if his older work went through a lot more edits before being presented.
