The Morning Report - 8/27/19

sulzfirst.jpg

Good morning, kids. Tuesday, and we lead with another example of our speech being violence and their violence being speech. I suppose some might think "well, what the hell was this guy thinking, wearing a MAGA hat in one of the epicenters of anti-American thuggery," which is like blaming the chick in the short skirt for getting raped (see the item about Germany in the Foreign Affairs section), or a Parisian Jew for getting the shit kicked out of him for the crime of wearing a kippah on the Champs Elysees, or Emmett Till for smiling at a white woman in Democrat KKK country. It's utterly loathsome and hateful, and it goes hand in glove with the effort to completely silence not only this President and conservative political and thought leaders in government and media, but a large swathe of the citizenry who share their views where they work, do business, in the schools and even in their houses of worship. Can you say "Nick Sandmann?" The beat-down of the guy in the MAGA hat is just the not-so-subtle reminder to watch what you say or else your life will be ruined. Or worse.

What's galling is that the biggest purveyors of lies and inciters of violence against their political and cultural enemies are suddenly indignant when we the people have the gall to fight back. I am of course referring to the Fourth Estate, which in point of fact is the Fifth Column; the great purveyors of truth and justice, ever vigilant in investigating and exposing anyone and everyone. Yet to question their ethics, motives and veracity is somehow an assault on the first amendment and the pillars of a free society. It is to laugh, if one wasn't occupied with retching up vomitus. The latest example is the current Sulzberger du jour outraged at one of the New York Times' contributors' having his slimy trail of Joo-hatred exposed via the same techniques said paper uses all the time to doxx private individuals and ruin their lives merely for the sin of supporting a president whom they actively attempted to overthrow.

And now, their "1619 Project" mainstreams blood-libeling of not just Trump but of American history itself. I imagine one day soon, buying a turkey in Portland to celebrate Thanksgiving will get your house firebombed. Will we then be saying to ourselves "what was that guy thinking?"

Anyway, links from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed.

NOTE: The opinions expressed in some links may or may not reflect my own. I include them because of their relevance to the discussion of a particular issue.

26 Each morning is yet another pile of excrement heaped upon America at the hands of the Democrats and their allies. The beatings, the rage mobs, the extremely incendiary lies told by its party members and presidential candidates...it's a wonder the country isn't burning down from coast to coast. These people are freaking crazy, and this violence MUST stop. I'm not clicking on the DC article (hate that website), but please tell me that there were some arrests made.

I'm so sick and tired of them all. They are the epitome of everything unholy, unclean, untruthful, violent, hateful, ugly, and anti-American. Poisonous scum that will be the ultimate ruin of this country if they aren't beaten back. At this point, I mean figuratively and literally.

Oh, and one more thing. That Cicero quote from the ONT...spot-the-heck-on.

44 Way back in the day, a guy by the name of Christian Trejbal got ahold of all the names and addresses of all CHP holders in Virginia, put the database online, and wrote an editorial in The Roanoke Times about how everyone had a right to know if their neighbors were carrying.

He got himself doxxed but throughly.

Predictably he started crying about it, played the victim, though TRT took the database down (although tried to be all martyr about it). Damage was done though not as bad as it would have been if the database stayed up.

Trejbold is now, or at least last I heard, working in Portland now. Probably an antifa enabler.

Anyway, dox the doxxers. Doxxing isn't my rule but if they play that game, oh well.

Tobias, a Latter-day Saint who lives in South Jordan, wishes her church would follow the "wisdom taught in the Book of Mormon" - the faith's foundational scripture - that encourages members to "fortify their cities."

She also argues the policy conflicts with the Second Amendment.

"The church doesn't have a right to tell me if I have a right to protect my family," she said, noting Mormon teachings that tout the U.S. Constitution as inspired by God. "But now we can't have the Second Amendment in church. What do we do about that?"

Between Biden, Warren and Bernie, I think(?) Warren has the best shot? Hopefully being whiter than Hillary similarly hurts her with minority voters (along with her fake native American history). Posted by: Guy Smiley at August 27, 2019 08:32 AM (O8WFE)

81 From "Entitled to her paycheck":

Entitlements are eating our country from the inside out. Every time entitlements go up or a new entitlement is offered, it increases the burden on the taxpayer while reducing the incentive to support oneself. One can imagine a team of taxpayers yoked to a wagon pulling an ever larger host of passengers. From time to time the problem gets worse when another taxpayer shrugs-off the yoke to get in the wagon.

On the local news just now they show a distraught illegal alien dad at a local hospital whose children may be sent home to Honduras under a new policy re: must be treated at home. Apparently no treatment available there.

This is a terrible situation. However, if we continue allowing people to bring their seriously ill kids/family and get free care it will destroy us.Hospitals cannot take the burden. Should the crazy Democrats get their way and implement Medicare for all or Warren's Medicare for all tots, the diseases treated/range of treatment options will be curbed; you can't save everyone by any means necessary for free. Private insurance offers more options precisely because they offer more costly plan options.

There's no easy, feel-good solution here. Charity for some perhaps, if we want to maintain what we have while still providing some help to needy foreigners.

California already gives $330 million a year in tax credits to production companies that film movies and television shows in this state.

Now, state lawmakers seem prepared to spend another $50 million a year to lure film companies back to California from states where lawmakers have voted to restrict abortion rights.

The bill by Assemblywoman Luz Rivas, a Democrat from North Hollywood, singles out the anti-abortion states of Alabama, Georgia, Ohio, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri and Louisiana.

Essay question: To obtain the film tax credit, filmmakers would need to provide "a narrative statement describing how they share California values in regards to women's reproductive rights," Rivas said at a legislative hearing earlier this month.

Funny how Hollywood caterwauls about the Blacklist of a few B and C level screenwriters back in the 50s like it was THE MOST ATROCIOUS ATROCITY IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD REEEEEEEEE! And then they use exactly the same tactics and methods in the present day, but instead of being largely a private matter within the studios as the Blacklist was, they're trying to make it an exclusively government action.

And setting fire to the entire current health insurance system. The next version needs to be simple, straightforward, and unable to play games with price - and prices for all procedures must be published.

What will bring healthcare costs down is competition.

If there is one part where competition is less desirable, I'd say it's emergency care. In this case, emergency care should be separated from non-emergency medicine.

229 I think what Republicans are screwing up on health care

They've been working for ten years of so to accomplish absolutely nothing. Eight years of for planning, arranging, etc. during Obama's terms and their plan ended up being to blame their failures on one dead guy.

230 219 I think what Republicans are screwing up on health care is that the health care industry is already so expensive and over-bureaucratized that people are beginning to ask "What's the difference between an expensive, bureaucratic, Government-run system and what we pretty much have now?"

The bold move would be getting Government out of health care; but no one is radical enough to propose that.

Pat Toomey: Odds for background checks better than ever
https://t.co/h0Qs3zFWHj

Manchin and Toomey's proposal would expand background checks to cover all commercial sales and close a loophole that allows people to evade background checks by purchasing firearms at gun shows.

Of the four Republicans who supported it, only Toomey and Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) still serve in the Senate. A number of more junior GOP senators are interested in the legislation, but it may have to be narrowed further to win the support of enough Republicans in the Senate.

Democrats say they are willing to talk and are looking to Toomey and Trump to move votes, even if the legislation doesn't go as far as they'd like.

"I'm willing to sit down and talk, and hopefully I can signal to my colleagues that if I'm willing to sit down and talk - that there must be something worth talking about," Murphy told reporters on Friday. He said he had spoken frequently with Toomey in recent days: "Pat Toomey is willing to lead."

Though the White House is planning to roll out proposals in the coming days, it's still unclear when or if legislation will be introduced or voted on in the Senate

(I'm shocked...shocked I tell ya!)

The White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) filed a brief Monday expressing support for Playboy reporter Brian Karem’s lawsuit after his press pass was revoked by the White House earlier in August.

Karem, also a CNN political analyst, got into a verbal confrontation with former Trump aide Sebastian Gorka in July. A video appeared to show Gorka yelling at Karem. However, a second video showed that Karem allegedly instigated the fight after he taunted attendees because he wasn’t happy about seating arrangements at Trump’s social media summit.

267 There are lots of problems with the way health care is paid for.

I don't know how to describe this problem - I call it "insurance farming."

I saw it when my mother was very ill, and I have seen it with my son who is I guess I will call it mentally ill.

In both cases very good insurance was available.

During my mother's treatment, during the most acute portion of her illness, the care was extremely good and it saved her life, ultimately resulting in improved quality of life afterward. However, there was a transitional period of rehab and management that was, in my opinion - extended well beyond what was necessary because my mother had the insurance to pay for it. They covered 90 days of one phase, so she was kept for 90 days because it was covered, rather than being based on performance/wellness.

Mental illness doesn't have much in the way of acute treatments - there is only management. Seems to me that there is no desire to make someone better in mental care, because graduating someone out means money that isn't collected. My son was in a facility that charges $1995 a day. The program was designed for 90 days. No math on the blog so let's just say it costs a LOT.

There are no measures of effectiveness nor are there success rates. No guarantees. People do not graduate before the insurance runs out, and when the insurance runs out - they are rushed out the door. Planned for 90 but insurance stops at 60? Goodbye.

------------------------------

Medicare does kick in at 65, but I've seen how it works with my older relatives. You pay a premium each month out of your SS check to have Medicare, and you really need a private Medicare Supplement Policy as well because straight Medicare doesn't cover much. The hospitalization portion of Medicare (Part A) is "free", but Part B/Doctors is not free, and Part D/Prescription Drugs require payment.

There are some penalties if you DON'T sign up for Medicare at 65, unless you have employer provided coverage. People who are 65 are the healthiest of the Medicare demographic, so the government wants those 65 year olds in the group.

He will lose that suit. Look back at why Acosta won his suit to be reinstated - the Court ruled that there were no official standards of behavior and conduct, and therefore any enforcement on those grounds was completely arbitrary. So the White House thought about that, and said "ok, here are the official rules of conduct" and made them available.

Karem ignored the written warning he was given.

a lot of the legal system involves enforcing "Mother May I? process rules, but in this case, the Trump admin followed all of the Mother May I rules.
