What I find most grievous about the way the Press talks about Trump is that they are stuck in the rut of "he's anti-press."
Citation needed. Show your evidence. No cheating off your neighbor. Trump hates the press whores. But has he spied on them like Obama did? Has he planted his own people into positions to feed their foreign desks like Obama did? No. He is mean to them. Big deal. He also gives them more time than any other president. He is incredibly accessible to the press. He is combative and doesn't let them lie without being immediately checked - often witheringly - but he talks to them. Constantly. He calls them out as frauds and liars, but he doesn't shut them down or impede them in any way. In terms of access and transparency - the things that count - Trump is hands-down the most pro-press president in my lifetime. It doesn't matter that he's very mean to them because he's given them all unprecedented access and time. I really, desperately hate these people. I might hate the press whores more than Trump does. People and organizations try to do them all the time but they inevitably fail. As for Greenland - or Kalaallit Nunaat, as it were - one immediate benefit they would get is as a place to get pre-cleared by U.S. CBP before going on to the CONUS. ANC gets TONS of cargo traffic for that reason. That alone does a great deal for the Anchorage economy. (as much as people now fashionably hate trade, it's true.) The Nuuk airport would be expanded to accommodate the cargo traffic from Europe on its way to the United States. So I would suspect, anyway. Sure, according to their "community organizer" who lives in Brussels. Watch what happens if you say, ok, you won't be Americans. We'll give you residency visas for Greenland only. Oh, and also for Minnesota in the winter. Posted by: t-bird at August 21, 2019 01:46 PM (TQyCa) 323

319 Greenland has a lot of mineral wealth. Geologically, it is part of the Canadian shield, which is very resource-rich. They also have coal, notably on Disko Island. Probably great potential for offshore oil and gas, too.

How much would it take to pop one of those bubbles for someone like Soros?
Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at August 21, 2019 01:30 PM (KZzsI) I think a lot, probably far beyond his capabilities. I suspect he was able to trigger the 2008 recession because the financial industry was already nervous about the subprime mortgage situation, so all he had to do was yell at the unstable snowbank to trigger the avalanche. But I doubt he can start a recession that is not otherwise imminent. Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara at August 21, 2019 01:47 PM (208R5) 327

246 Greenland costs DK $800 million.
What do they produce / do in return? Why would we want to incur that much more debt? Granted, it's not much, but we've got homeless veterans in this country that money would do a LOT for. Posted by: Sponge at August 21, 2019 01:36 PM (Zz0t1) I bet you hated William Seward in a former life. Check out what I wrote above for an example of what Greenland could provide. It could - could - be an entrepot for trade to the United States. (Trade is extremely unpopular these days but it is still a crucial element to the economy.) The best part about government spending $800 million on homeless veterans is that it absolves people of responsibility. All you will need to do is say "I care about homeless veterans! See! I pay my taxes!" We COULD take care of homeless veterans at much less cost, through civil society, and - most shocking of all - if they get jobs. Problem is that in spite of all the virtue signaling from corporate America about how they love our veterans, and how they want to hire veterans, they in reality go way out of their way to refuse to hire veterans, while no one is looking. (But hey, people will buy veterans a meal at the airport to "thank them for their service". Giving them the means to actually get countless meals for themselves? That's pure crazy talk.) And then people start to whine about why there are all these homeless veterans... Posted by: Catch Thirty-Thr33 at August 21, 2019 01:58 PM (WDnN1) 336
Didn't the press pull this recession crap when Daddy Bush ran for re-election? I seem to remember that there had been a recession but we were recovering. Clinton and the press glossed over that fact and I don't remember Bush doing much to defend himself. I'm now actually glad I voted for Perot. Still have the Perot T-shirt.

I was totally disgusted by NPR this morning, which I force myself to listen to in order that I might know what lies that particular enemy of the people is currently shoveling out!
Virtually every story was selected to be able to be slanted against Trump. The fake recession was the most dominant theme, with the hourly "business news" the worst I have heard: a series of good indicators, followed by a big subjective "BUT..." to negate it all. The classic had to be the NPR spokesman asking the market analyst (in essence) "Why are the consumers still buying like things are great, with all the bad economic news?". He didn't add "that we are creating!" but it was clearly his thinking. The analyst had just pointed out that consumer spending drives 70% of GDP, and it was obvious that the NPR guy saw that as the biggest stumbling block in the way of creating a recession!
