We just got done spending several days touring communities where we want to relocate.
And yes, every community that we had an interest in, we downloaded and read the Covenants and Restrictions for.
Even called a community manager, and an HOA President to get a feel for two communities.
And several communities got scratched off the list because, while the home in question was interesting, a drive through the community showed that the HOA was NOT enforcing any of their guidelines, and crap.
Tell me what your rules are.

I never use the word literally because it is has become so absurd now. Of course there are correct times to use it, but those times are actually very rare. yes, the Millennials use it when they mean figuratively, but really, they just throw it in for no reason at all. Almost every time I see it in writing on the web, the world could simply be deleted and the sentence meaning would not change. You don't have to replace it with figuratively or any other word, just delete the damn thing.

Works well for a good amount of the country. Some areas though, if I don't want to get into an HOA I have to live in a different state. Some parts of the country are exactly like that....there is no realistic alternative.

People read LOL differently and that changes how a sentence looks. I always read it as "Lots of Laughs". Others read it as "Laughing Out Loud". SOmetimes the sentence makes sense with one reading but not the other.
But other than that I don't know what you guys are talking about. People, here, seem to put LOL in their comments when they are laughing at some part of the comment, either a piece or in total. Sometimes they are laughing with themselves ("I said something that made me laugh it was so funny") and sometimes they are laughing at others.
I have seen no issues with how people use LOL, here.

I sometimes wonder about the use of 'This/+1/Agreed'. I always say to myself, that's great there champ, but what are you actually adding and is this comment even necessary? So, I usually add some sort of commentary to try to either illustrate why this is a good point, which is kind of at odds when you are using 'This' to say nothing more needs be said on the matter, but I am going to say something anyway, in direct contradiction of what I said to open.
