The Morning Report - 8/20/19

adolranci.jpg

Good morning, kids. The fallout over the aborted Rancida Taliban and Bro-Fo Omar Israel stunt is at the top of the heap this Tuesday. That includes both the less than surprising fact of both of the taqqiya twins' links to a known terror-linked organization (which they are taking the Sgt. Schultz defense on) and the Democrat Party seemingly trying to back away from an anti-Israel and anti-Semitic position that many besides these two and the other two stooges in "The Squad" are embracing.

The group in question, Miftah, along with verifiable ties to terrorism, is well known for spreading Julius Streicher level bilge about Jews and Israel along with the baseline position of wiping the Jewish state off the map. But poor Rancida claimed ignorance despite Miftah's sponsoring of the trip, and then threw fellow odious vermin like Luis Guttierez and Hank Guam-Tipper under the bus for a similar junket a few years back. Meanwhile, as some Democrats are desperate for these psychos to shut their mouths and lay low, Bro-Fo Omar just kept on opening her brother's and/or husband's penis receptacle to spew the same Jew-hatred while Toothy McBigTits appeared on some college pirate radio outlet going on about the heretofore-unknown phenomenon of "Jewish white supremacists" as well as the usual garbage about "occupation" and so on. As if that wasn't enough, they promoted the work of a hideous anti-Semitic cartoonist on Instagram (funny how that's allowed but pro-life groups and conservatives are banned).

The Dems may indeed be desperate for them to shut their mouths but it doesn't excuse their silence about these four and Miftah, among other things. In fact their silence is a tell, although in reality, the Joo-hatred goes back at least 20 years or more. It's just the eruptions into the open air being just another indicator of the internecine struggle between the Left hand and the Far Left hand for control of the whole shooting match. Meh, bring it on. Just like all the other Democrat-Leftist madness of the past three years, the more it's out in the open for all the world to see, the more it will repulse the general public. Inshalla.

Anyway, links from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed.

NOTE: The opinions expressed in some links may or may not reflect my own. I include them because of their relevance to the discussion of a particular issue.

12 I knew this would happen when I posted on the ONT, so. . .

OK, Horde, I expect this to be willowed while we wait for JJ, but here goes:

Today is the birthday of silent actress Marguerite Courtot.

https://tinyurl.com/yxfnwxf4

She was born in 1897, a Joisey girl of French ancestry. She was a child model and made her debut in film in 1912 with the Kalem Company, a NYC-based studio that was notable for producing the first version of Ben-Hur (for which they were promptly sued).

https://tinyurl.com/y3yhhj2u

Courtot entered the "adventure" genre two years later, when Kalem, flush with success from their serial The Hazards of Helen, gave her the lead in The Ventures of Marguerite.

https://tinyurl.com/y3m25xxp

Kalem merged with the ill-fated Vitagraph Company, and Courtot began bouncing around lots, working for Vitagraph, Lasky (later Paramount) and other independents before going on an extended leave of absence to sell war bonds.

https://tinyurl.com/yy558eg8

After the war, she signed with the Pathe studio and worked with them until 1923, when she married co-star Raymond McKee and retired. The two had a happy marriage until his death in 1984. Courtot died in 1986 at the age of 88.

The last remnant of the old Vitagraph studio can be seen from the B and Q trains near the Avenue M station in Brooklyn. The smokestack with the name of the studio. Also NBC still owns a production facility right there where they tape, or used to tape the soap "Another World" and IIRC "The Cosby Show".

I have read a lot of history over the years and even got the degree. Yet even my liberal profs never mentioned Howard Zinn. There was a time when even liberal historians believed in actual history done by professionals.

The first time I heard of Zinn was in the movie Good Will Hunting by that leftist Damon. I still have not read a word of it. To me it would be like reading history ala Gore Vidal.

But yes, I realize Zinn is today's Bruce Catton and Gordon Wood. Sad.

57 It's been over 150 years since slavery ended.

It only existed for the first 80 years of this country.

Extending it back to 1619 is an attempt to make it more pivotal in the development of current America and overcome the question of why there has supposedly been so little 'progress' on the Race Issue.

That, of course, requires accepting the premises of the Left and their racio-Marxist worldview, as well as ignoring the role of the Left in all that 'lack of progress.'

Even more insidious is it won't be just the NYT pushing this BS It is a signal to all the other MSM, entertainment and academia to follow this line. Obviously they have been pushing a distorted version of American history for some time with MLK being the most important American ever and slavery and civic rights movement as the most importunate events. However this will now go into overdrive. I have no doubt in the coming weeks my kids will start coming home with all sorts of 1619 type lessons and we will seeing ever more movies and shows with the 1619 theme incorporated into the plot. Worse, this isn't going away, even if Dems manage to win the 2020 election.

In 1912, the actress Helen Gardner made what I believe might have been the first movie version of Cleopatra, with, as I say in my novel-in-progress, "cardboard sets and dime store costumes."

Several years ago - I don't remember how long - TCM premiered it during one of their "Silent Sunday Nights," accompanied by a modern soundtrack of what I suppose you might call "trance" music that was exotic and hypnotically enjoyable.

For some reason, it used to be on YouTube, but now it's gone. However, TCM is supposedly showing it again on September 29 at 12.45am EST.

71 As always, your Greenfield link is excellent, jj:

That's why Rep. Tlaib and Rep. Omar played at wanting to go to Israel. Like all BDS activists, their goal was to stage a public confrontation. And by barring them, Israel limited the scope of the confrontation.

That's why the BDS travel ban was passed.

Israel has grown tired of the protest tourists of the world showing up to get arrested. It's weary of lefty activists staging conflicts with police and soldiers. It's sick of BDS supporters who spend thousands of dollars to visit the country to be able to add a symbolic arrest photo to their Instagram feed.

. . . Banning Rep. Tlaib and Rep. Omar from coming to Israel was considered unwise by most American Jewish organizations. But it deprived Tlaib and Omar of the opportunity to participate in protests, and get themselves arrested.

Tlaib gave away the game when she used her grandmother to score extra points.

Do they not own mirrors, or are they just so used to lying to themselves and everybody else about everything under the sun that they literally can't see how bad they look?
Posted by: TrivialPursuer at August 20, 2019 08:05 AM (k4dH2)

Although The Omen isn't fat per se, she lost the genetic lottery by having The Beast pop her out, particularly in the gams shaped like upside down bowling pins. But she wears wildly unflattering, albeit expensive courtesy of the Clinton Crime Foundation, outfits that contradict any feedback a mirror provides. My guess is she gets a pouty look and thinks "if Ivanka looks good in this so should I".

It only existed for the first 80 years of this country.

Extending it back to 1619 is an attempt to make it more pivotal in the development of current America and overcome the question of why there has supposedly been so little 'progress' on the Race Issue.

127 In 1619 the Jamestown colonists had just survived years of deprivation and starvation and were about to survive an indian massacre. One of my forebearers was in the 1619 Va 1st House of Burgesses. His name was Thomas Paulette. He was the 3rd son of the Marquess of Winchester and was probably one of the dopey aristocrats who were a drag on the rest, looking initially for gold instead of farming/working. His will shows no "slaves" which makes sense since the 1619 africans dropped off by the dutch were indentured servants and freemen, not slaves.
I always find ascribing the mores of a later period or today to ancient occurrences. Do these 'tards really imagine that people had the same values, goals, and feelings of "wokeness" centuries ago as they do now?

They seem to be able to say that the way muslims treat women are fine because "culture" yet they think that 400 years ago has the same culture as today and thus those who lived it with indentured servants, women as property (although no vote still wouldn't be that bad an idea since we won't get informed), bleeding, et al were doing something they knew was wrong?
Hell, they wrapped their babies so much that they lacked vitamin D and got regular rickets. Everyone was slightly drunk since the only potable drink was "small" beer and watered wine. The friggin' chimney was still a fairly new improvement to these elizabethians.

145 Why are you pimping for Stockman, the corrupt Texas congressman? The article fails to mention any of the specifics of the case, which was for corruption.

Oh, yeah, the article was written by his wife. Well, good for her to lobby to get her husband out, but is there any real evidence to suggest he wasn't corrupt?

After all: He pled guilty.

Criminal case
In March 2017, Stockman was arrested for allegedly conspiring to use contributions designated for a charity to fund his campaign and for personal use, a felony, under 18 U.S.C. 371.

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), in January 2013, Stockman requested and received $350,000 in donations from an unidentified businessman. Stockman allegedly solicited the money by using the name of Life Without Limits, a Las Vegas-based nonprofit intended to help people who have experienced traumatic events. The donation was allegedly intended to be used to renovate the Freedom House in Washington D.C.[61]

Stockman was also charged with conspiracy to falsify statements when reporting contributions to try launder the money.[62][63]

On April 12, 2018, he was tried in a U.S. district court in Texas, and was found guilty of 23 felonies and remanded into custody. On November 7, 2018 he was sentenced to serve 10 years in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $1,014,718.51 in restitution. He is being held in the low security Federal Correctional Institution, Fort Worth in Fort Worth, Texas. His scheduled day of release is December 26, 2026.[64]

The FBI alleged that at the time of the events in question, Stockman had no formal control of the Life Without Limits organization, but that he had opened multiple bank accounts under the name "Stephen E Stockman dba Life Without Limits." The FBI also alleged that financial records indicate that Stockman "made no significant expenditures toward the purchase, renovation, or operation of the 'Freedom House,' which was never opened."[65]

Stockman conspired with Thomas Dodd, a former campaign worker and congressional special assistant. According to the Houston Chronicle, the alleged conspiracy involved attempts "to bilk conservative foundations out of at least $775,000 in donations meant for charitable purposes or voter education". Dodd was indicted by a Federal grand jury in Houston and, on March 20, 2017, he pleaded guilty.[66][67] Dodd was sentenced to 18 months and ordered to pay a fine of $800,000.[68]

Stockman staffer Jason Posey entered a guilty plea before Chief U.S. District Judge Lee Rosenthal to counts of wire fraud, mail fraud, and money laundering. He faced a prison term of up to 45 years and a fine of more than $4.8 million, plus hundreds of thousands more in restitution. Posey admitted that at Stockman's direction he and Dodd illegally funneled hundreds of thousands of dollars from charitable foundations and individuals in charge of the foundations to pay for Stockman's campaigns and personal expenses. On April 2, 2019, Posey was sentenced to 18 months and ordered to pay a fine of $720,000.[68]

On March 28, 2017, a federal grand jury issued a 28 count indictment that included 24 counts against Stockman. He was accused of obtaining $1.25 million under false pretenses and using the funds for his political campaigns.[69] He was charged with eleven counts of money laundering, eight counts of mail and wire fraud, one count of conspiracy to make "conduit contributions" and false statements (conspiracy to conceal the real source of the contributions by false attribution), two counts of making false statements to the Federal Election Commission, one count of making excessive contributions, and one count of willfully filing a false 2013 Federal income tax return by not reporting some of his income. Posey was charged with money laundering, mail and wire fraud, conspiracy to make conduit contributions and false statements, making false statements to the Federal Election Commission, making excessive contributions, and falsification of records.[70][71] Due to its complexity and the need for time to review 142,378 pages of documents disclosed by the prosecution, a motion for postponement of Stockman's trial by his court-appointed attorney was granted. His trial began on January 29, 2018.[72][73]

On April 12, 2018, Stockman was convicted by a jury on 23 of the 24 felony counts against him, for which he faced up to 20 years in prison for each count. He was acquitted on one count of wire fraud. Because he was judged to be a flight risk, he was remanded into custody pending sentencing,[74][75] which was re-set for November 7, 2018.

On November 7, 2018 he was sentenced to serve ten years in prison and ordered to pay $1,014,718.51 in restitution, to be followed by three years of supervised release.[76] Stockman is incarcerated at a medical facility of the Federal Bureau of Prisons at Fort Worth, Texas.[77]

It is a quite perplexing historical and cultural phenomenon. You'd think that a people who have been abused historically by the "big state" from European monarchs to 20th century despots, to ancient invading hordes would be wary of the big state, not want to advance it. This is also a group of people who have had more, not less capital than their neighbors because of a cultural emphasis on education, frugality and a higher IQ.
When I've delved into this paradox with specific jews, the conversation invariably turns, as it does with most leftists, to abortion and a dislike of christians in the aggregate. It's as if the atheism of Marxism is preferable to western christianity, which you could see. However, the idea that abortion is a personal good for a group that experienced massive deaths, is strange.

154 Inverted yield curve may not indicate an imminent recession, but it is significant that long term rates are so low. Low long term rates is one reason debt doesn't mean much ... for now. It certainly has stimulated more buying, but debt becomes a burden, low rates are inflationary even if it doesn't show up in prices for various reasons. ... we shall see.

We can lower rates more (again) and then there might be some more QE (perhaps on the QT if the fed gets into stock markets, where they probably already are) ... I hope they keep markets up through 2020 to help Trump ...but moving away from China back to US (or other allies) ... might be hard on the "global economy" while we might keep growing, idk.

They have reason to believe they can radically change the nation, and they have damn good reason to believe it. I am about up to here with people thinking the far left is too out of the mainstream and we should want them as opponents. Give me a Sam Nunn or Chuck Robb as an opponent. 158 Calif Gov. Gruesome and wanna be gay Mayor Steinberg made a BIG DEAL out of a signing ceremony yesterday re a bill that attempts to make police shootings a criminal act...that is shootings BY police.

The courts will have to shag out the vagueness of it but the bill moves the football into the enemies court.

Police will be forced to defend in court any shooting that is "not necessary" so that in cases of mistaken judgement that a perp is armed...and it turns out that the perp is NOT armed....the cop goes to prison.

That is the aim anyway.

This is a big fucking deal. Some have tried to downplay it but if the courts okay it cops will go to prison because the 'in fear of their life' standard is now gone.

One thing schools really need to teach more is the full global context of the African slave trade. America's role in it was a pretty small slice of the pie, and it was primarily an Arab Muslim thing long before and long after the Atlantic trade. During the late-19th century "scramble for Africa," one of the justifications given for colonizing previously untouched African kingdoms was that they were being ravaged by Arab slavers. And that's not even getting into the Ottomans/Barbery

192 D'seuza in one of his first full length films explains Obama's beliefs as "anti-colonialism." That's the belief that the european explorers and colonists exploited brown people to amass great wealth and that to "make things fair" that wealth and cultural advancement should be redistributed.

So stuff like the 1619 project, open borders, mass immigration into europe, the iran deal, islamist excuses, hatred for israel, the welfare state, trade deficits, cop hate, set-asides, et al (you can go on and on) are just a equalizing of the world cultures and economies to "repay" the "exploited" for european dominance from Hernando De Soto to the fall of the soviet union.

Obama gave an interview to the Atlantic where he explained that islam wasn't the issue, it was historic exploitation resulting in poverty and western oppression that caused distress. He really seemed to believe that if they were just given more money, they'd be sane and peaceful.

These guys were psychos, but it's very questionable whether they were arrested for anything more than being assholes who thought about (or owned) guns.

Fed just controls short term, but that influences the rest. You don't think monetary policy has had major effects on markets, and that ZIRP and QE had anything to do with Obama running up debt and tax burdens but still "surviving" economically?

I said rates are significant, I didn't say it indicates the sky is falling tomorrow. It has been a long term degradation of currencies ... that is indeed significant. The Greenspan Put was significant, the bank bailouts are significant. The timing in the markets is not direct because there is so much manipulation, and so much "money" floating around. Normal standards have been broken. When government intervenes with TARP ... yeah, that messes with normal outcomes. But it is very significant.

248 Meat is a great thing, and plant based, since meat comes from plant eaters. They also don't like meat because it produces big strong people vs skinny little freaks or rotund diabetic insulin resistant lards.

Cured bacon, however, isn't the best choice. Butter is fine in moderation but other oils have Medium Chain Triglycerides which tend to be broken down more easily into HDL cholesterol than butter. Fatty fish, rich in omega 6 and avoiding highly processed vegetable oils (high in nasty omega 3) which both use the same enzyme to be broken down with omega 3 getting precedence, is a better route.

You don't even have to go that far. You just need to publicize how the Obama era EPA faked all of the "impact reports" and other bureaucratic nonsense to kill projects they didn't like for political reasons, even though there were completely legal and allowable under the laws as written, then and now.

The corruption goes so deep it's hard to get a handle on it - but it's safe to assume that *every* ruling made on every Federal issue from 2008 - 2016 was corrupt and in complete violation of actual law.

Also, the media became rather uniform in their support for him surprisingly early, which allowed for a concentrated push against the other candidates (like Clinton). That's not happening now. 333 Regarding the American Greatness piece on the California Ethnic Studies requirement, the Boomer author's appalling cluelessness is a reminder that no progress can be made while they hold positions of influence. He notes that Americans now make up, at most, only 23% of California's K-12 public school students. Rather than admitting that he, his cohorts, and their progenitors pissed away their descendants' national patrimony, leaving them surrounded by people who hate them, and begging for their forgiveness, he instead blathers on about DR3, personal responsibility, capitalism, "becoming a fully multiethnic nation," and the need for a kinder, gentler, ethnic indoctrination regime.

"We can still cuck our way through this!" No, Ed, we can't.
