CBS Holds Pep Rally and/or Cult Ritual to Psych Up Presumably-Depressed News Staff

Corporate pep rallies. Everyone loves 'em.

There were unsettling scenes at CBS Wednesday when top talent and execs hosted a peculiar "pep rally" for the revamped "CBS Evening News" -- which left some staffers "embarrassed" and "confused."

We’re told that as part of the morale booster at CBS headquarters, incoming anchor Norah O’Donnell, heavyweight news division president Susan Zirinsky and "Evening News" executive producer Kim Godwin starred in a taped "music video" set to a DJ Khaled song -- complete with a dance routine.

Meanwhile, the alleged "news" organizations' Sunday partisan entertainments are in a steep ratings fall.

The "average audience for the network TV Sunday morning political talk shows on ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC ... declined 8% in 2018, to about 2.3 million average viewers," reports the Pew Research Center.

That's an eight percent decline in just two years, since 2016, meaning -- hold on to your hats -- a near double-digit decline during the Trump era, which this same media told us was a Boom Time for the media because Har-de-har, Mr. President, your hate only makes us stronger!

...

And it is just not network news. As Breitbart News reported last week, the overall American media will be hit with some 12,000 job cuts this year, the largest number since the Great Recession of 2009, and nearly three times as many as were cut in 2017.

Rep. Ilman Omar tore into Tucker Carlson on Twitter, calling him a "racist fool" after the Fox News host said she was "living proof that the way we practice immigration has become dangerous to this country" on his show Tuesday night.

"Not gonna lie, it's kinda fun watching a racist fool like this weeping about my presence in Congress," Omar said in her tweet.

102 CBS had the oldest demographic of ANY network in the nation:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/business/wp/2014/09/05/ tv-is-increasingly-for-old-people/

"TV is Increasingly for Old People

CBS has the oldest audience with a median viewer of 58.7 years old. "

And with every passing year, their average viewership gets about 1 year older.

That's because, I suspect, that it's the SAME people every year. In other words, CBS has an existing audience that have been with them for decades, but NO NEW VIEWERS ARE EVER ADDED.

Eventually, the entire network will be in a nursing home, along with its surviving audience.

But, hey, if you are lucky you will get the motivational speaker who uses Dyanetics terminology and doesn't realize where it comes from! Yay!

In the end you realize the actual purpose for the pep rally is for your management to show their management that everything to fix institutional problems is being done, and the only real solution is to fire all the malcontents and slackers and replace them with the right sort of employees who will work longer for less pay, and won't try to think for themselves.

There's always a forced undercurrent to these affairs, a certain awkwardness. Not that major corporate executive types are all bad people, necessarily. Many are decent and all are hardworking. Posted by: Our Country is Screwed at July 11, 2019 04:11 PM (N39Ws)

I remember an office Christmas party (fancy lunch) back in 1986, for the corporate staff of a publicly traded company. The previous tradition had been for the CEO to come out, make a speech, and hand out bonus checks. That year, after dinner but before the dessert had been served, he got up and announced that he was taking the company private, so there would be (1) no bonus checks and (2) layoffs. (His plan was to cut costs by any means, and then go public again a year or two later and make himself rich(er).)

After he sat down, everyone except the Executive VP's just got up and left. And then dessert was served. As I headed out the door, I looked back and saw 100 uneaten servings of Bananas Foster neatly set out. Made me laugh (well, after I got to my car, that is).

There was a happy ending, however. The company was eaten up by interest on the debt he used to take it private, his cost cutting crippled performance, and the company eventually was acquired for pennies on the dollar by a competitor. As a wise man once said, LOLGF.

338 251 I've always wondered how it's possible for Christians to do the whole "love thy enemy" thing... I absolutely could not hang with that. I admire it... but that's not me.

I think a lot of Christianity is this way. Don't just not commit adultery, for example, don't even lust in your heart. It's aspirational and probably prophylactic: trying to make As, you'll probably at least get Cs. Or something like that.
Posted by: bear with asymmetrical balls at July 11, 2019 04:31 PM (iys0/)

These are some of the cases of "more theology needed."

So lust is defined as a disordered desire, not a desire, one on which you dwell and obsess. There is no eradicating basic human bodily responses or thoughts, the "lust" admonition is about concentrated disordered desire or obsession. Guy asked me once if he could "lust" after his wife. I asked him if it interfered with his vocation as a husband/father/provider/etc. He said no, so it's not "lust."

"Love your enemy" is about reminding yourself that everyone is made in the image of God and that you don't think of them as objects. Love means more like "act in charity" vs have an emotional good feeling toward. I can't "love" an enemy but I can keep from obsessing over their being damaged in some way. But even that last part is hard since if California fell off, I'd be hard pressed to shed a tear.

There have been a bunch of planes that have gone down on glaciers.
We still occasionally find planes that were lost in WWII up here. They've been working on recovering the remains from one large WWII crash for the last couple of summers (the work can only take place in the summer, and even then the weather often prohibits work). At least those families now finally know for sure what happened to their relatives. Sadly, many of those who knew them have undoubtedly also passed on by now.

The Bible teaches all about that, yes.

Regeneration is when you are made a new creation by God, and able to NOT sin.
Sanctification is about being made through the work and power of God in concert with our efforts to be better every day, and more shaped in his image, and culminates in being perfectly glorified in paradise.

That's what the Bible teaches. We'll never be perfect here. God clearly demands perfection. "Be ye holy as I am holy" wasn't a suggestion or an exaggeration.

460 "Love your enemy" just means don't do them any harm.

It means love, but the Christian concept of love is a lot different than the popular culture version. You don't show love to someone by letting them continue to do evil. You show love by stopping them and even punishing them for doing wrong.

Which is more loving: your child lights the cat on fire and you go "what a scamp!" or go "that's wrong" and punish them?

Love isn't all nice and friendly and giving and ignoring people's wrong. Its doing what is best and most constructive and good for them, even when they don't like it.

519 426 "Love your enemy" just means don't do them any harm. We're not being asked to do the impossible and love them in an emotional sense. That would be like asking someone who hates lima beans to love them.

...

Except that God himself actually Loved us when we were still His enemies.

Love your enemy is the call to demonstrate to a world still at enmity with God the kind of love that He showed to degenerates like us.

This is clearly not the sort of thing one does in one's own strength--at the same time, Jesus is saying it's possible.

Note also that Jesus' love of his enemies didn't stop Him from explaining to their faces that they were hypocrites and from chasing them with corded whips.

I love the verse where the disciples are like "hey, did you know, because maybe you didn't quite mean to, that you made the Pharisees upset?"

But Jesus love of his enemies (us) is what is ultimately demonstrated on the cross.

for those people who have had bad experiences with HR it's understandable. I still think Jobs was probably a sociopath-Very brilliant at what he did and could be charming but utterly self absorbed.

521 New CNBC poll (yeah, so take that for what it's worth) shows:

Plugs: 26%Fauxcahontas: 19%KamalToe: 13%Senile Communist Muppet: 13%ButtJizz: 7%O'Cuck: 2%Yang: 2%
None of the rest of the clown car breaks 1%
I guess the news here is that Yang is now tied with O'Cuck, but he's got a daunting road ahead of him, primarily because he's merely a classic tax-and-spend Democrat, not a crazy communist racist.

523 470 You wanna boost morale? Take a million of each of those fucker's compensation and distribute it among the rank & file.

And some times, its just not possible to boost morale. I mean, no matter what you do with pay or parties or stand up desks or whatever, if your industry is dying, its dying.
Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at July 11, 2019 05:05 PM (39g3+)

Corporate morale (and morale in general) is not totally dependent on circumstances.

There are plenty of happy thriving dirt-poor villages where people are happier than your average resident of Beverly Hills. There are industries in decline where certain companies can still motivate their people to do their best work.

You can do things that actually help morale, such as giving out bonuses where you can, or you indulge in selfish and disconnected vanity projects and say you are "doing something". Each type of behavior tells staff something.

What do you think the vanity video is telling them?
