Terminator: Dark Fate Using the Lady Ghostbusters Charm Offensive That Worked So Well

When you've got a piece of shit on your hands, politicize the living f*** out of it, so when it flops, you can blame Toxic White Men.

Why would misogynists be scared of skinny, ratty boy?

And good for Gareth from the British version of The Office. Glad to see he's getting work!

MacKenzie Davis speaks (during her employment on Halt and Catch Fire):

"As a viewer, I'm personally less interested in the damaged, white, middle-class male figuring out his dreams and more interested in maybe an underdog figuring out how they're going to survive in a world that doesn't necessarily invite them in."

Yes, you're totally oppressed. You can casually denigrate a group and suffer not even a speed-bump in your endless promotion, but if anyone from the group you denigrate says something negative about you, they can be fired, and you'll just damsel about hate and bullying.

Truly, you're in the oppressed class. You can always tell the oppressed class by the long list of official and unofficial privileges and prerogatives it enjoys.

Thanks to artisinal 'ette.

57 The only good Terminator movie was the first one. It was cute, fun and enjoyable. There were enough plot holes to drive a mack truck through but that was okay for an hour and a half. They could be ignored.

But then, when they took themselves seriously and started making tens of sequels to that piece of shit ... this is the sort of thing you would inevitably end up with - a movie fraught with silliness, wrapped in a nasty wrapper, with a side of boredom.

==========

The ending contradicts the theme of the first two movies.

In the first two, the idea was that we could take the future into our hands and make things better.

T3 feels more like a 70s sci-fi movie that embraces the inevitability of destruction. We can't change it, we just have to survive it.

I'm always drawn to more depressing things in art. I'm not sure why, but I find things like inevitability and even nihilism (which T3's ending isn't) to be appealing in art. I'm not nihilistic in real life, I just like my art that way.

"No fate but what we make" became "all is predestined and impossible to change," which is ridiculous since the entire plot is based on the idea that the machines can change their fate.

However, it's got some sweet action sequences, and I agree, one of the great downer endings in cinema.

Wasn't that actually a key part of the original novel? They were all made to be one sex (I think it was female) so they could not reproduce. Scientists needed some missing strands of DNA to complete the cloning so they used frog DNA which gave the dino's the ability to change sex.

For one thing, once you open that pandora's box, how can you be SURE that it's ever over?

Some of the Dark Horse comics, some of which are good, basically assume that Skynet sent back large numbers of Terminators with different primary and secondary objectives to fuck with all sorts of stuff.

Narratively, it's a dead end. You can never be sure that it's over if there's even one sequel.

Truly, you're in the oppressed class. You can always tell the oppressed class by the long list of official and unofficial privileges and prerogatives it enjoys.

Hollywood is really destructive on women, isn't it?

Posted by: FrodoB at July 10, 2019 04:15 PM (mnNV7)

467 The first Terminator movie is pared down to the bone. Not an extra word, not an extra scene, not an extra character.

T2 is more than a bit bloated. I love it, but Terminator is better.

One other thing about the first two movies is that Sarah Conner is the motivating force and the main character of both. In the first she is a normal person, going about her life, when everything goes to hell. In the second she is not 'empowered' but more haunted and traumatized by what she knows/fears is coming.
Posted by: Aetius451AD at July 10, 2019 03:58 PM (ycWCI)

In T2, Sarah Connor has become the machine. She's the one who doesn't rest, and doesn't stop, and who has no mission other than to ensure that John lives. She's stripped away her humanity and showing that by having Linda Hamilton get ripped (but still within the bounds of a tiny woman ripped) works like a charm.

My favorite bit of Terminator trivia. Linda Hamilton is a twin and her twin sister is her stand in. So both of them had to get into shape like that for T2.

I'm one of the few apologists for T3. I mean, it's not good, but at least it ended in the only way it really could.

We're just not going to talk about Salvation and Genisys.

The official position of all these woke fuckheads is that bigotry in all forms is strictly old-timey and white, and once all the old white people have died off bigotry will be no more.

Falsehoods in this assertion:

1. All gender and ethnic groups engage in bigotry. These days, normal white people are some of the least bigoted; this is such a problem for the grievance industry that they are driven to minute hairsplitting re-definitions of bigotry, and false flag
attacks.

2. The relentless selfish attacks of these cranks on normal white people, especially white males, are creating new bigots. Most bigoted white people today did not inherit it, they bought into the kum-bay-yah One Big Happy Human Family horseshit and then at some point got slapped in the face by what a lie it all is.

all be good? Not even close.

Bingo. I've seen this all the time. I grew up in that quaint little period where at least as kids we were being taught that all people are created equal and deserve to be judged on their actions, not their identity. And if you grew up turly believing that, as I did, and you see the bullshit today, yeah, you feel lied to, cheated, hoodwinked.

502 463 The problem, besides Hollywood being bankrupt anyway (idea-wise, morally, ethically), is that not every good movie is ripe for having an 'expanded universe.'

Y'know, I'm just not that into sci-fi and when you get what's been done to some perfectly good stories (LOTR?) with CGI and all this superhuman-capability nonsense, as soon as the arrows start flying it's 'yawn, wake me when this garbage is over'.

I went to see the John Wick 3 movie a few weeks ago. Stupidest shit I've seen in decades.

The whole superhero/fantasy genre has gone off the rails, it's all dependent on the audience suspending any sort of judgment. I pretty much loathe them all, no matter how pretty some may be.

The most recent remake might be a (slightly) better movie but while Laura is still trying to save her Father, there's a lot more "girl power" stuff in the movie.

562 No no, first we have to find out who Rey's parents are.

Brother and sister, probably.

'Flowers Foods, Inc. is voluntarily recalling hamburger and hot dog buns and other bakery products due to the potential presence of small pieces of hard plastic that may have been introduced during production. Consumption of product may cause a choking hazard.'

I liked "His Girl Friday" because I have liked anything Rosalind Russell was in and she worked well with Cary Grant.

==========

I love the movie. But it's also unoriginal from the time when Hollywood apparently was original.

569 464 Then, one female of the species gets hired here who is covered in tattoos and has all her hair shaved and what is left on the very tippy top is dyed hot pink. They changed the dress code to accommodate her. But only her. I would bet everything I own that if I came in like that, I'd be sent home.

My office is the same way.

Women can look as outrageous as they want (until they hit upper management), men have to stick to a pretty standard template.

Same.

I was such a Star Wars fan I had the frelling bedspread, pillow cases and curtains.

Now I just want the franchise to die so I can mourn.

571 Just saying that Hollywood has always been bankrupt of ideas.

Remember His Girl Friday?

The movie that was based on a movie (The Front Page) that was based on a play (The Front Page)?

Eh, and "Arsenic and Old Lace" was based on a stage play.

Still very well done.

Anyway, the "Thin Man" series was fun, nothing more.

Myrna Loy and William Powell did work well off each other, I thought.

573 After reading all that, all I could think was "Goddam, didn't the director (who as usual I'd never heard of) and the producers ever see the first two Terminator movies? You know, "it's been done" (the whole scrawny, dykey-looking quasi-female kicking ass hither and yon thing) and all that. Geez...

574 This kind of marketing approach strikes one as counterintuitive. A "We Hate Men" message tends to have an adverse affect on that segment of their film's potential audience who happen to be, well, men.

Maybe Trump should invite the under-15 Dallas Academy boys team to the White House instead.

They beat the professional U.S. women's soccer team 5-2.
