I did not fully grok that vacationing with a five and one year old would be so far removed from relaxing.

I think... I can't wait to go back to work.

This AT piece is entertaining:

The Arctic Ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot.

[snip]

Very few seals and no white fish are found in the Eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring have never ventured so far north in the old seal hunting ground. Within a few years it is predicted that due to the ice melt the sea will rise and make most coastal cities uninhabitable.

98 90 Finally bought the battery powered lawnmower. This thing is great. Quiet, light, folds up for upright storage. Barely came close to using the battery capacity.

Disclaimer: I live in a heavily wooded area with not much lawn so it's not for everyone but it sure works for me. And no gas or oil to mess with. So I've got that going for me, which is nice.

I seriously looked at one of those. I have about 2 acres to mow between my place and Mrs IMG's parents next door, so I ride a tractor. But there's trimming to be done.

I went with a gasser, because self propelled. Not a whole lot of trim mowing, but a good amount of walking/pushing in between spots.

I did go the 40v route for string trimmer, pole saw, cultivator, leaf blower though. 1 spare battery. I can get 90% of the string trimming done on both yards with two batteries.

The cultivator is impressive and very handy.

He did this because Pelosi called him and to give time for Dems to come to their senses. Yeah, that is going to happen. They will only use the two week to find a judge to block the plan, which caught them by surprise and unprepared.

That brings up another point - a lot of the enforcement people are against actual enforcement.

Trump's a lot like U.S. Grant - he doesn't allow setbacks to bother him, he just shifts ground and goes somewhere else.

Even when he retreats, he's shifting the Overton Window.

Remember when mass deportations were a rhetorical ploy, something that could never happen? Now we're actually arguing the timeline for execution.

121 Among the laws the DHS administrator broke with his leak:
18 U.S. Code 1324 (A)(iii):

"Any person who - ...

(iii) knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that an alien has
come to, entered, or remains in the United States in violation of law,
conceals, harbors, or shields from detection, or attempts to conceal,
harbor, or shield from detection, such alien in any place, including any
building or any means of transportation;"

Just conspiring to violate that law earns a conspirator 5 years in club
Fed. The penalties for violation are for each illegal alien so harbored.
Note that subjecting U.S. citizens to health hazards increases the
penalty to 10 years in prison for each alien so harbored.

Politics is far more complicated, a world of repercussions. He wants to shape the battleground in the most propitious way possible for action.

I don't mean to single you out, but there is a strain of conservative who expects decades-long problems to be solved pretty much instantly.

It won't happen because it can't happen. Trump has to move incrementally here, first building a wide base of support because the Deep State is dead-set against him.

Trump not only has to move opinion, he has to find non-treacherous subordinates. That also takes time.

183 We went camping earlier this year with a 7yo and 2.5yo. I wasn't any help to my husband while he was setting up the camper bc I was chasing the 2.5yo around keeping him from charging a St. Bernard that must have been 5-6x his size (she was a sweet dog! Just never a good idea to charge a strange dog full speed), falling in the lake, leaping into a patch of prickly pear, etc.

We're going camping again in a few weeks. Now the 7yo is almost 8 and the 2.5yo is 3. Somehow I don't think it will be much easier. Heh.

I actually do have a vacation of sorts coming up. I have to go to a beach area for work. I will be actually working, but some of my work involves public outreach stuff on the beach in a pavilion. And the children will not be there. Blissful relaxation.

210 I don't mean to single you out, but there is a strain of conservative who expects decades-long problems to be solved pretty much instantly.

It won't happen because it can't happen. Trump has to move incrementally here, first building a wide base of support because the Deep State is dead-set against him.

Trump not only has to move opinion, he has to find non-treacherous subordinates. That also takes time.
Posted by: Author A.H. Lloyd - now with functioning web site at June 23, 2019 08:36 AM (cfSRQ)z"

Agree completely, and second. Some like to think that Trump really is some God-Emperor who can stride in and implement any Directive he wants on his own say so, probably because the idiot MSM always says that and partly because they've never bothered to learn how the American system actually works.

We do not have an Imperial system, at least not yet. A President does not rule by decree, he has to persuade and bully the rest of the government into doing what he wants in order to get anything done.

Look at who's against him:

Right now, on immigration, the House of Rep's is totally against him. At least 2/3 of the Senate is against him, because the GOP-e has always been for open borders. 90% of the Bureaucracy is against him, because they're either democrats or never trumpers. The Judiciary, with only a few exceptions, is against him. Even Corporate America, with all of its money to influence affairs, is against him, because they see immigration as a big profit opportunity. And all of these power centers interlock and protect each other.

And against all of that, Trump stands alone and still fights - and then some on our side complain he hasn't done enough because he can't do everything on his own.

211 190: It's a site run by libs. I'd be happy with a total no politics rule, but name calling and hatred is fine on Ravelry if you hate the people they do.

All in all it's a women's site and women tend to be pretty stupid about "caring and inclusive" (present company excepted) and are easily led. I am not surprised by this move at all. Most of their "designers" who crib from old patterns are libs.

Anyway, I realize that I will never make all the patterns I have saved on Ravelry and deleted my account. Fuck Casey, especially.

212 A question for any navy morons :

We have my late FIL's blue naval uniforms (Korea) and long wool coat with liner. (That coat is one of the heaviest garments I've ever held.) They were not stored properly and have some moth holes, but otherwise are not in too bad of shape. The buttons are still beautiful, and the braiding and other detail are not bad. There is also a beige suit, and a cover that is in really bad shape. The hat has a card with his name in it from when he was an ensign, so probably his first one.

I'm a sentimental person, but this is a lot to keep. Just chucking the lot seems wrong. Any ideas of what to do with these things?

Work of a different kind. More rewarding. But still work. Enjoy your rest at work.

Did the air show at Fairchild, yesterday. It was much smaller than JBLM, fewer static displays, etc. But let me tell you, the F22 demos stole the show and made the trouble worthwhile.

First demo was solo. Mixture of slow and high speed. Incredible capabilities. Second demo was flown with a P51 Mustang flying in formations, making passes. Whoever thought this up was a genius. Air superiority from wild separated eras. Air superiority is timeless. Absolutely incredible.

Also, F5, F15, F16, C5, C17, C130, Wildcats, Avengers, oh my. Good times.
