I guess you need to reset GE bulbs that you steal from your neighbor's place.
What they don't tell you, every 2 days GE downloads new firmware to all your bulbs (one at a time, though) and then they have to be turned off and back on, which GE does for you. It only takes a minute or two and out of 24 hours you can afford to have a little darkness in your house for a few minutes. It's for the tech!!
Also, your bulbs have voice recognition, but only in that african click language. Who knew the africans there developed a language that is natural to light switches, all those years ago in the jungle? Serendipity, they say.

Except for the ones with black people in them. There's a series that has what'shername as the heroine - Morning Show Mysteries. I dont find it as engaging as some of the others, but it's because the character development is either lacking or I need to watch more of them.

They kinda sorta later apologized for that, said they were a bit surprised it affected so many people so deeply. But it wasn't just mean; it did touch on the very serious topic of what happens to those who are left behind? I remember reading a short story about Traveler, Lee's faithful horse, who was with him throughout the war, and walked behind his casket at the funeral. Although he had been in full health, not long after Lee died, Traveler fell ill and died as well. It's a hard thing to be left behind.
Futurama has gone into very touching territory at surprising times. The episode with Fry's lucky clover was one - although they made a point to give that one a much happier ending.

See, last few weeks, I've spent about as much time at the Cardiologist than I have at work. Primary doc has run a routine EKG on me last few years, and the occasional "random" blip on the graph was getting to be "more than random", and in a worrisome way to his thinking.
So, off to the Heart Doc I go. Odd, being that I've always been a Heartless Bastard, but what the hell, over?
X-rays, radioactive treadmill tests (it was nuked at Alamogordo, I think), radioactive CT scans (yeah, they loaded me up with isotopes TWICE. I oughta try spinning spider web from my wrists.)
Final visit with Cardiologist. Other than some thickening of heart tissue due to high blood pressure, I got a clean "bill of heart health" from the Cardio doc.
Except for the fact that my EKG looks like the score from a Metallica concert, and he doesn't have an answer for that.
As yet, anyway.
So, prayer works. Kept it private, kept it focused. But prayer works.
Didn't help my brain scan any though. That one came back "negative".

I always had happy Christmases, I love the holiday. But my wife absolutely hates Christmas. She came from a nice family, they were strict, and her mom would have been the kind to give out oranges and hair braids for Christmas, and maybe underwear. But she just says she never had a happy Christmas in her life, it's just a lot of work for nothing. Bah Humbug!

That argument would be more compelling, if a lot of big blue cities weren't having huge problems recruiting cops.
That's true of Chicago, and Portland just dropped the requirement that police recruits have to have a couple of years of college. Twenty years ago, Portland required four-year college degrees to become a cop. You can now become a cop in Portland with a GED.
This is not a good trend.

That's the police recruitment problem Portland has - instead, you can be a cop in a Portland suburb where people actually like the cops. It's so bad that the suburban sheriffs departments will no longer send their cops into Portland in response to mutual aid requests, because they don't want their deputies facing Portland juries if something goes south.
It's interesting - anti-cop sentiment in Chicago is largely fueled by racial animosity (even though the Chicago police department is 40% black).
Portland has very few blacks - the anti-cop sentiment there is fueled by white leftists who hate the cops, and think that cops aren't needed, since Portland has a low violent crime rate. (Property crimes in Portland are through the roof, but that's just stuff, man.)

We've almost got our little deer fence up. Hopefully we'll complete it tomorrow. It got so hot and my knees gave out, or I would've finished today.
But tonight, I saw the enemy out there. A doe, a deer, a female deer, was walking out there next to the partially completed fence. She jumped across the road into the woods.
Then, when I was finally closing up the shop, I shined the flashlight down the field and saw several sets of glowing eyes peering from the tree line.
If I had a night vision scope on my .308, I think I could've commenced a slaughter.

Long story short, my daughter took me to the ER (hubby met us there), where I was eventually diagnosed with a kidney/urinary tract infection.
Fortunately, I hadn't gone septic, so I was allowed to go home with some heavy drugs and a doctor's note excusing me from housework for 3 days.
I was pretty miserable until they gave me morphine in my IV....

Are the Mexican passport and immigration control people just waving them through at the Mexico City airport, so long as they promise to head to El Norte? I doubt that they have Mexican visas.
You'd think that there would be a limited number of ways someone from Iran or the Sudan would have to enter Mexico.
I've never seen any explanation of this - it would be interesting to find out, particularly how culpable the Mexican government is in accommodating this.

What are Barrs options, if any? The FBI have been ignoring subpoenas for information for TWO YEARS. What can Barr do that will actually get the needed info and prevent further destruction (I would bet my house they already have begun destroying evidence) or "losing" evidence.
I am sick and fucking tired of this shit. Kick down the fucking doors, arrest Wrey and Haspel for ignoring subpoenas (heard that was a thing now) and go in and get the documents themselves.

I put some 8' 2 x 4s 2' in the ground, then screwed som 2x3" struts at a 45 degree angle on the inside.
I then got some of that "netting" stuff, whatever you call it, which is 4'. One piece of that on the 45 degree slant, and another piece at the top on the vertical 2 x 4s.
That is ringing off the garden area. I was trying to slap something easy that would go fast. The 45 degree slant works pretty good for deer, as it looks boggerish about jumping.

I'm in the midst of building a true, bespoke rifle, based on a bona-fide, Commercial Mauser (M-9
action. This one though, made in Zastava, Yugoslavia, rather than "Made in Germany".
A truly "virgin" receiver, it's never had a part assembled onto it, ever.
Recently, I bought a minty Interarms Mk.X Mauser, to serve as a parts donor to that virgin receiver.
Bolt group, bolt-stop/ejector group, bottom metal to include the magazine spring and follower. I'll harvest all those from the donor rifle.
It'll get a high-end Timney trigger, a Winchester-type 3 position safety, and have the entire action blueprinted, squared and trued by the best in the industry.
I'm going to choose from a Liljia barrel, a Shaw barrel or a Sheilin barrel. 6.5x55 Swede. 1:8 twist.
Budget for a stock BLANK is $1,500.
Engraving and gold inlay is in the budget.
It'll be built along the lines of a .257 Rigby, British rifle. Safari pattern.
No way it'll be ready for the TX Mo Meet. Maybe the next one, or the one after.
Much as it'll cost to build, it'll be worth twice that to a buyer.
This will be the ONE and ONLY "bespoke" rifle, I will ever commission.
I don't have a son, but I'll accept applications to be my heir. Application fee will be $7,500, before optics.

No steakhouses, this time. Next day we stayed in Cayucos - had early dinner at the smoked fish place by the pier - and enjoyed watching a sea otter mother and pup doing their thing after. Next day was up to the north - after some ollalieberry pie at Linn's.
Breakfast at Bob's in Los Alamos - both the day we stayed there, and managed to schedule it in for our last day heading south [stayed in Paso].
Talked with winemaker at MonteMar in the ghetto in Lompoc, learned Jamie sold the place in Los Alamos and went to LA - he said new couple running it is good [we saw them talking with Bob at breakfast that morning, first time I've ever seen Bob smile, talking with their little kid].
Jeffrey's BBQ in Paso is nice, informal, good selection of beer/wine too. Disappointed to see Jardine's has closed. First time east of San Miguel for wine - Graveyard was very nice, good juice.
Thanks for your generous offer! I need to get an oil well so we can move up there and drink and shoot in the quiet and beauty [keeping the two activities separate, mind you].

When the riflescope is a Nightforce, Schmidt & Bender, or U.S. Optics, it's going to cost at least $3,000, and the bases and mounts another $400 ish.
The "Spotting Scope" I had in mind for Blonde Morticia would be a Vortex Razor, in the +$2,500 range. Which does not include the Bogen Manfrotto fluid-head tripod, itself another $600.
This precision rifle stuff does not come cheap.
A quality F-Class bi-pod, for the kind of shooting Weasel competes in, will run a solid $500, plus.
Precision shooting is the only field I can think of that "costs" in line with nautical or aviation gear.
Even then, aviation gear takes the cake, in the long run.

We buy our beef at Costco or my friends slaughter their own. The good butcher is in Paso. That's who cuts our meat from the fair auction. I also shop at el rancho in Santa Ynez.
I like rancho San Julian beef and Harris ranch.

Bob hugs you? Wow. I actually got some interest from him this time, telling him how his pickled lemons [on the salmon] had inspired me to do my own.
The boss was mildly impressed that I managed to plan things so we had breakfast at Bob's twice even tho we were only in town one night, but instantly raised the bar and said next trip, *three* times. This time we could buy bread since we were headed home same day. Laughed when I saw FedEx boxes for pick-up with Bob's bread in them!

I did quit my old job in January. I'm doing PT medical transcription from home, but I am still getting used to the hours. One good thing about it is that I am alone, which suits my mood.
The problem is really M-T-W. The first 2 days are 5-9pm and then Wednesday is 12-8. So I have all this open time in the morning that I should be using for writing / exercise / general improvement, but I'm not and I am both angry at myself and depressed on the rare occasions I can stand to look in the mirror.
Still, it could always be worse. . .

The US Patent and Trademark Office almost killed me. A interesting albeit very high stress culture there. I got lots of good stories, and my wife, from there, so I look on the bright side of life ... now. It took a couple of years of a fun job for recovery.

Cali, hilarious - winemaker also said he's known as the "bread nazi". I think he's just a bit shy and idiosyncratic with most customers. No matter - his stuff is among the best I've had anywhere in the world. That's why we try to eat there as much as we can when we visit there.
AOP, yeah, kinda - but I've heard of similar situations. Up Mark Twain's way, for example, without connections, years back, was not easy to get local salmon that hadn't made the trip to the lower 48 and back. There was one place [Cali - down near the blueberry farm and Pork Palace, off the 1O1] that had local beef/their own beef, but the last drought forced herd reductions, which affected availability.

I just finished the definitive work on Omaha Beach planning. I got a signed copy from the author when I attended his lecture at the Eisenhower Presidential Library. The book is Omaha Beach: A Flawed Victory by Dr. Adrian Lewis.
A very well delivered essay. I got labeled a smart guy for my question. And I noted to him afterwards on his three minor errors. It is times like these that make me realize how deep my knowledge of WWII is. And I still know a lot less than Anna Puma.

And I started noting down errors in WWII histories a while ago, beginning with Andrew Roberts' comprehensive history [a few whoppers in that one]. The Giangreco book is great but has what seem to be editing miscues as opposed to factual ones.

I'm trying to come up with another short story right now, in the vein of Thirteen Moons, but not in a supernatural style. My writing lately has been getting away from "this is silent Hollywood, come on with me" to "Theo and Toby bickering endlessly and pointlessly over a contrived mystery."
My (at the moment postponed) story is based on Peg Entwistle, the poor girl who threw herself off the "Hollywood" sign in 1932. There was a brief report that obliquely suggested she might have been murdered rather than have committed suicide, and that's my jumping off point, hence the opening sentence -
