Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Mueller: I Don't Want to Testify Before Jerry Nadler and His Enormous Man-guntThe conspiracy theorists who've been suggesting that AG Barr was blocking Mueller from testifying are wrong, yet again. Manu Raju works at CNN -- or, let's agree, draws a paycheck from CNN -- to type up the Democrats' and Mueller team's (but I repeat myself) leaks:Manu Raju @mkraju NEWS: Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team has expressed reticence to him testifying publicly in front of the House Judiciary Committee, according to sources familiar with the matter. His team has expressed that he does not want to appear political.... One option is to have him testify behind closed doors, but sources caution numerous options are being considered in the negotiations between the committee and the special counsel’s team. Nadler has called for public testimonyA twitter user commenting on this made a halfway decent speculation: Mueller may be essentially asking to be subpoenaed, so he can claim he resisted being "political" to the utmost. Then, having been subpoenaed, he can go in there and be suuuuuper political -- but hey, he was forced to, right? If Nadler doesn't subpoena him, that's going to look pretty strange, given his threats and bluster -- and subpeona! -- to Don McGahn. Meanwhile... The Justice Department warned House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff if the panel moves forward with a contempt vote or other punishment against Attorney General William Barr, it will no longer work together on a deal that would allow members to view a less-redacted version of special counsel Robert Mueller's report. In a letter sent Tuesday to Schiff, D-Calif., from Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd, the Justice Department proposed a meeting this week with the House Intelligence panel’s senior staff to continue to search for a compromise in response to 12 requests made by the committee. But that meeting won’t happen if the panel decides to punish Barr for failing to turn over the unredacted report, Boyd warned. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Why would anyone testify behind closed doors for the House Democrats when the Democrats will just go ahead and release your testimony anyway. House Democrats have released the "behind closed doors" testimony of Michael Cohen. You know, the testimony that contradicts what Cohen said in public testimony. Cohen told Democrats, behind closed doors, that Trump's lawyer told him to lie. So naturally the Democrats wanted to publicly testify so he drop this bomb on live fake news. We all know what Cohen ended up saying in his public testimony: The Truth. But that's not stopping the Democrats from releasing the "behind closed doors" session in which Cohen says what they wanted him to say. Posted by: Soothie at May 21, 2019 04:54 PM (GzOxe) 76

62 And the band plays on.
Posted by: zombie at May 21, 2019 04:52 PM (5tb4C) yes and they are both plagues upon humanity Posted by: Nevergiveup I'm now interested in the history of the phrase "the band played on." The first usage I can think of is in the the popular late nineteenth century waltz "The Girl With the Strawberry Curls" from 1895, a.k.a. "The Strawberry Blonde" a.k.a. "The Band Played On": "He'd ne'er leave the girl With the strawberry curls, And the band played on." Next time it appears in culture was, as far as I know, in the 1970 Temptations hit "Ball of Confusion": "Evolution, revolution, gun control, sound of soul Shooting rockets to the moon, kids growing up too soon Politicians say more taxes will solve everything And the band played on" Then of course there was the weepy anti-Reagan AIDS book "And the Band Played On" by Randy Shilts in 1987. But my question is: Did the phrase start in 1895? Or was it an existing phrase by then? Also: When did it acquire its sardonic meaning of "all sorts of horrible things might happen, but the world will keep turning nonetheless." In the original 1895 song, it was more literal -- there actually was a real band they kept playing. When did it become a political term? Posted by: zombie at May 21, 2019 05:18 PM (5tb4C) 210

Also: When did it acquire its sardonic meaning of "all sorts of horrible things might happen, but the world will keep turning nonetheless." In the original 1895 song, it was more literal -- there actually was a real band they kept playing. When did it become a political term?
Posted by: zombie Maybe a reference to the band on the Titanic, that continued to play as the ship went down in order to try to calm the people there. Your childhood thievery schemes were all so simplistic and obvious. Mine were much more devious and complicated.
When I was about 9 years old, my dad threw a big barbecue in a nearby park for all his drunkard friends. There were about 50 adults there, all totally soused. I devised the following convoluted plan, and then put it into action -- and it worked! When no one was looking, I reached into the purse of one of the drunken floozies at the barbecue, and took her wallet. But did I remove any money from it? No! Instead, I snuck over and hid it underneath one of the cars they had driven to the barbecue, next to a back wheel. Then I waited. Nearly TWO HOURS later, when people were starting to leave, the floozy FINALLY noticed her wallet missing, and starting screaming and becoming hysterical. Everyone started looking for it, and of course I fell under suspicion as well. But I joined the search teams, and -- making sure to never get anywhere physically near the wallet -- pointed it out from afar, yelling, "There it is -- under that car!" The floozy was so grateful that she gave me a $10 reward. Which had been my plan all along -- to get the reward and become a hero for finding the lost wallet. Sheer genius, I tell ya. If he does House he'll have to do Senate where I do believe the questioning might get a little uncomfortable. Heck House R's would get a crack too. Good chance he doesn't want to get cross examined because he's done a lot of stuff that is durty and the MSM have buried it well but if he has to talk about why he picked Clinton Foundation lawyers he might not look to great. Why the fuck would Mueller want to testify? Why engage in this shit show any longer? Imagine how many political axes will try and get him for obstruction, or lying under oath, or what not.
I'd say fuck that - the intelligence committee is a bunch of lunatic assholes. If they force you to testify, answer every questions with "its in the report." If they ask about anything not in the report say "I don't recall", or "I'm not here to talk about personal and confidential matters." That would put everyone back in a tough spot.
