47 Okay, this got willowed and after I make my point I got chores to do.

Theresa May was undeniably under tremendous pressure. Her departure was always "when" not "if."

Maybe the resignation of yet another minister was the trigger. Maybe she just felt bad this morning.

However, it is important to note that May was the Home Secretary until July 2016 when she became PM. That means that if British intelligence was involved, she would have been responsible. (The Home Secretary is in charge of counterintelligence.)

She had plenty of reasons to leave, so it wasn't like she needed another one, but I think we can agree that having UK involvement in the Spygate was yet another headache she didn't need.

Back later!

50 Buzzfeed is going after Tony Robbins saying he sexually harrassed women and made racial slurs. One of the women in their story is pushing back saying they took things out of context to push a narrative. Regarding the racial slurs, again they took it out of context as he was quoting racial slurs as something bad. Their desperation kills me.

That reminds me of the drive into the Biltmore Estate. When I discovered who the landscape architect was (Frederick Law Olmsted, who also designed NY's Central Park), I drove really slowly to take it in, much as someone would have done in a carriage.

Miss Linda continually wants to put her heated seat on in the car even when the temp outside is above 60 (as it is nearly all year in this dump). I tell her I'm thinking about pulling the fuse for that and not putting it back until December.

At my place, which is well- and sensibly air-conditioned, she drags out my terrycloth robe and drapes it over her legs. Which I like looking at. So it's not only crazy, it ruins the view.

142 I really like this painting. It isn't "grand" art in a monumental sense but it is a lovely scene. There is enough realistic detail to be interesting (the reddish leaves in the upper left are an example) but it is loose enough for impressions. Part of the charm of this painting is that each part: sky, tree trunks, leaves, etc., are distinct but contribute to the whole. It's an effective combination.

For some reason, this work makes me think of those European advertising posters from the 1920s and 30s. Perhaps it is the distinct and vibrant colors. Also, areas of one basic tone against a contrasting color that continues the shape. Probably not describing that well.

I'm a firm believer in the 10th Amendment. Setting aside the obvious illegal alien payoffs, I fully support government being able to implement this kind of thing, but only at the state level and with state tax dollars.

I know that ship has sailed and it can never happen because people think federal dollars should somehow be spent on bizarre local projects in NC that have nothing to do with taxpayers in Wyoming, but I'd love for the handout folks to be able to give every woman a free Corvette with the purchase of three abortions. At the very least it will show he has been lying for the last 2+ years.

He was the minority leader on the Intel Committee. He was given the same briefings as the other Gang or Eight members and has seen all the classified documents. He knew as much about what really happened as Nunes who has been speaking the truth all along.

His lying wasn't just typical DC spin, it was an informed attempt to mislead the American public and cover up the coup attempt.

Financial services may make you rich, and they might make a lot of money, but they don't produce wealth.

Wealth is physical goods. Cars, refrigerators, food, etc. No service industry produces wealth.

This is where The Zimbabwe and Venezuela factor comes in. You can have endless money, but if there's no material wealth for that money to represent, you're going to be spending a million bucks on a cup of coffee.

And that citizen is still responsible for income taxes on both the increased value of the stock as well as the gain of any dividends. The Dems are lying once again to make it seem like they are going after a broker or trader, they are going after 2/3 of the American citizens that are using the own personal money to create a better life. We are gonna have to disagree on that. Anything of "monetary value" has some basis in the monetary system. If a person invests $1 and walks away with $5, he has accumulated more wealth. That's is, he has a higher basis for accumulating physical goods of value due to the fact he has made a monetary gain.

I don't take the narrow view of wealth that most classical economists did.

Good discussion subject thought.

If you want to tie the relative value of that gain to how much wealthier he is, or his ability to acquire more physical goods, that's another discussion.

I think it's mostly Scotland, but maybe Northern Ireland wants it too (I know nothing).

From what I understand, why Ireland keeps coming up is because something in the EU agreement allows for a soft border between Northern Ireland and Ireland. The biggest part of the negotiation and the sticking point as been what to do about that border in a post-Brexit world.

Good discussion subject thought.

Money and wealth are related, but are not the same thing, and when you make the mistake of treating them as the same, you are inviting disaster.

Imagine a theoretical all-service economy, and you've got an exercise in hole-filling. Nothing gets produced, and thanks to the obsolescence and wear and tear of durable goods, that lack of production leads to it eating its own tail.

True, but the issue is the open border within the EU, as it affects Northern Ireland. Once Brexit is done, a new border enforcement regime will be required between Northern Ireland and the Republic. They do not want that. And yet, the UK needs to have border inspection for goods and people coming into the UK.

So unless the UK wants to have a border between it and Northern Ireland (and it does not) it will require a border between Ireland and Northern Ireland, which no one wants.

It's a real mess. Intractable too.

Is that about how honey is made?

nope.

a) it sucks the nectar and gets dusted with pollen, not the other way around.
b) the bees are female, so they don't hump the queen. 'cept for the lesbian ones.
c) the feet get wiped on other plants, thus distributing the pollen and fertilizing the plants.
d) they vomit the nectar into the comb.

but i'm no expert.
