Meet The PetMorons

IMG_0831.jpg

Mis Hum,
In the past I've submitted photos of my Yorkie, Maggie. You might remember the one in which she was wearing her sun goggles. Well, this week I had to say goodbye to her. She was 11 yrs old and I got her as a pup. Her nickname was Bug. She put up a good fight for the past year, always with good humor and complete devotion even through a lot of daily meds. She never bit anyone, loved little kids, and only barked when absolutely necessary, like when she spied a big dog too close to the house. And she was just so darn cute that she made me smile and brought me joy every day.

Keep up the good work on the AOS pet thread, something I look forward to each week - Liz

Of course I remember! Who could forget a Yorkie wearing goggles? Certainly not I. Geez Liz, I don't know what else to say excpet, I'm so sorry for your loss. Sounds like she battled right up to the very end.

Mr. Nemo rides again.
I sent a picture of him about 2 years ago; he's now survived knee surgery and canine lymphoma Type B. He's two months past chemo and the oncologist says he's in clinical remission. Since he tolerated the chemo extremely well, we're hoping he will be one of the 1% that get a cure. Here he is on the "Nemo seat" aka the center console of our dual recliner. He's in convenient range for petting and treats. - SDN

Thanks for sharing with us SDN. Best wishes to Mr. Nemo that he keeps fighting the damn "C". I love the strategy he shows for affection and the treats.

Spotty I.jpg

This is a picture Spot, Spotty, or Spot Spot Polka Dot. He came to us as a foster and some how managed to stay. He was very adventurous and loved to go on rides. It didn't matter where or how long. He would even be my acting Co-pilot on flights. Howling was also a favorite pastime. He went to the bridge unexpectedly last Sunday. He is sorely missed.

Please keep up the good work on the Pet Thread. I enjoy it very much.

NH Lurker

Thank you for sharing Spot Spot Polka Dot's photo and story with us. That must have been a difficult email to pen. It sounds like he had a wonderful but way too short of life with you. Take care.

Clover is a blue heeler aka Queensland heeler aka Australian cattle dog. She's 8 weeks old and is equally skilled at stealing our sleep as she is stealing hearts. - Average Guy

Your nic should be Brave Guy. I can't imagine springing a pup onto Mrs. Mis. Hum. She is an adorable pup and that is a unique name. We appreciate your submission.

Hello MisHum,

Meet Splotchy BifBewalskiBot. We rescued Splotchy a year or so after moving to North Alabama. At first we were hearing what sounded like a possum living in the crawlspace of our home. When we would go in and look around for a nest, we could hear something scuttling away off and jumping out of one of the vents in the wall. One night I was up late and I hear yowling as a cat was climbing up onto the heating ducts in between the joists and insulation to sleep where it was warm. I had an 'aha!' moment then.

Eventually we were able to lay eyes on a very skinny and malnourished version of this magnificent American Shorthair you see here. During this time, I was maintaining my shotgroup with an air rifle by introducing the chipmunk and squirrel population to kinetic energy and Splotchy was taking care of the carcasses for me.

A good year later we had him eating dry kibble and wet food with medicine in it for worms, fleas, ticks and what not from the vet. Not too long after that he would let us scratch his head through a hand wide gap in the porch doorway. One quick grab and his formerly feral self was at the vet getting checked out. He had been neutered, and was obviously a victim of abuse given the way he still flinches when a hand is moving to quickly around him.

Vet said he was at least ten years old five years ago when he let me grab him. Now his days are pretty much what you see here, napping, safeguarding the remote and insisting that we forgot to feed him.

He is the gentlest cat I've ever had as well as one of the most loving. - Woody

I just love a rags to riches story. Not only that, you must be one patient Moron to work that hard to make Splotchy a TV Remote Guard Cat. May Splotchy's days be filled with nothing but happiness.

Here are Guinevere and Molly Golightly dressed for an evening wedding. Hence the three strands.

I will not say out loud that they were better dressed and better behaved than the bride.

Guinevere is wife to Ace and he is babydaddy to Molly. All three are Royal standard poodles.

(The Royal designation refers to size not beauty or intelligence. Although they have those in abundance.) - Le Garde Vieux

This isn't the first time we've seen these sharp dressed pooches. Thanks for sharing with us.

Trixie1.jpg

Attached are 2 pictures of my new baby girl, Trixie. She is a beautiful Siamese… and has all the “cattitude” required of the female Siamese. At less than 4 months old, she has already perfected Resting Bitch Face and is Queen of the House and All She Surveys. She also has all of us wrapped around her little paw, including 3 men (husband and 2 college sons home for the summer) and 2 large dogs who are scared to death of her.

That little cutie has the dogs frighted? Now I'm curious as to what kind of dogs you have. She appears adorable. Thanks for sharing Becky.

At one point the son got so frustrated that he was almost ready to give up. He didn't.
How do you get your running dogs to come back?

Me, I figure all I'd have to do is find a toilet and close the door. In seconds she'd be at the door whining and yelping to be let in to watch me poop.

Prayers up here from me and my two kittehs. If Dash is old enough to recognize your scent, or maybe Gracie's, you could try leaving out a T-shirt with your scent on it or a towel with Gracie's, and it might lure him out of his hiding place. If he went outside, try putting out a dish with some nice fishy-smelling wet cat food. Most 8-month old kittens have discovered the joys of wet food, and he's probably hungry by now.

36 Mattski, so sorry about the burglary. Our home was burglarized many years ago. Door was forced open by the thieves and left open. We had to search for three missing indoor kittys. The first came to the door at dinnertime like "whatzzup dudes?" The second one we found in the basement hiding on top of a heat duct with about 2 inches to spare under the ceiling. The third one was missing for three days--we had flyers all over the neighborhood with her picture and "Lost White Cat" headline. Finally a man and his little boy rang the doorbell and shoved a grungy gray cat in our faces. "Is this you cat?" he said. "We think it may be white underneath." Yep, it was our kitteh, Peek. So happy ending.

I hope for the best for you and your animals, too.

56 A cat story with a request for advice.

Bozo Conservative has two cats, a boy and a girl close in age. Both are neutered. He's had the yellow boy cat for about a year or so. They're... around two or three years old.

Around Christmas, he got a new cat. A black male. Also fixed. About eight.

Well, the two males hiss/ yowl at each other and the black cat is peeing/marking on a regular basis. Vet says he doesn't have urinary tract issues or crystals.

Any ideas on how to solve this? He is a very sweet cat who wants attention from people. FYI, he plays with the girl cat and the girl cat plays with the yellow male. But the two males don't play with each other.

69 Any ideas on how to solve this? He is a very sweet cat who wants attention from people.

Don't know if this will help, but here goes: I had a similar problem some years back when I had two cats of my own plus a long-term foster kitteh. All three were spayed females. About six months after foster kitteh arrived, she began to spray the wall behind the litter box in the bathroom. I was surprised given her sex, but the vet said female cats will spray too if upset enough. He thought the issue was dominance-- female kittehs are less territorial than males, but they still have a hierarchy if there's more than one. Evidently foster kitteh resented being third in the chain of command. Problem was solved when she was adopted. I later heard from the chemistry teacher who adopted Trudy that she promptly asserted her rule over the teacher's other cat, a male Siamese, who happily accepted it. Trudy and Baxter lived very happily together for many years, as did the two kittehs I had at the time.

The other possible solution to your two males problem is to get an additional litter box. My vet says that cats will sometimes get into turf wars over the litter box if there's only one, and he recommends having one for each cat in the household plus one extra-- which is why I have three. Evidently the spare box serves as some kind of stress relief.

Good luck with your yellow cat/black cat problem. At least you know kittehs don't fight over fur color.

Posted by: Basement Cat at May 25, 2019 04:27 PM (pPNCa)

70 A regularly cleaned litter box cures a world of ills.
And I agree, number of cats = number of litter boxes, plus a spare.
Many cats die from urinary tract infections.
A good supply of water (preferably running) and litter box hygiene is a good way to keep UTI away.

71 Shibumi-- don't want to get into too much detail but Bozo Conservative's one boy cat definitely is acting as if he is in a territorial competition with the other boy even though they are fixed and sterile. As you probably know, there are several ways of neutering a male cat. One is basically a vasectomy and the other is full removal of testicles. Both surgeries obviously prevent impregnation, but the vasectomy version leaves more male hormones, attributes and behaviors intact. Guessing from afar I am thinking that is what's going on.

Thank you both for your input. There are currently four litter boxes, however... cleaning needs to be a bit more vigilant. We are thinking about a Litter Robot.

Running water is also a great idea. He needs a cat fountain.

Very true. I bought a pet fountain for my cats some years back; it still runs well and they love watching the stream of water as well as drinking from it. I've never had a problem with a UTI in any of my kittehs.

Posted by: Basement Cat at May 25, 2019 04:35 PM (pPNCa)

74 Yes, since I got a cat water fountain, the cats drink more water and we've not lost one to UTI since.
One of my cats lived to 21.

75 I did my pet good deed of the day today. After hearing some yelping outside Mrs Hate told me that King, a pit bull puppy of some neighbor's a few houses away, was running up and down the street. We live on a somewhat major street and people drive like dimwits over and beyond a 35 mph speed limit, so I grabbed Teddy's leash and went out. King might be street savvy enough to have survived but I didn't want to take a chance. Anyway he came right to me and let me put the leash on and walked him over to the neighbor's front porch, where I secured him. Mrs H took down a bowl of water since it's hot and he was fine. The neighbors came back and thanked me saying King had somehow gotten out of the back yard (they have a sturdy fence so who knows how he escaped) but all ended well.

Really interesting point corn and beans.

The black cat acts really intimidated, but I have seen the yellow cat walk away from him. So... IDK.

Cocktails are a bourgeois contrivance designed to anesthetize the masses so as to impair their ability to recognize their own true class interests and unite to realize the glorious Socialist future.

Yes-- I didn't know there are two methods for neutering male cats. My boy had his family jewels completely removed, and I just assumed that was the vet's standard operating procedure.

79 How do you get your running dogs to come back?

E collar where the initial stimulation is vibrate. If he ignores it, a little juice will do it.

Thanks, but I was just trying to help Caliban save a few bucks by giving him an ideological justification for serving his commie guests iced tea and calling it a day.

So why did AOC work as a bartender? Dispensing happy hour anesthesia would slow down the march to the glorious socialist revolution.

89 Trixie is absolutely beautiful and so very, very cute. By any chance, does she happen to be an "Apple head" Siamese?

And, yes, any cat worth its kibble can easily handle a couple of dogs, even if the cat is just a baby. Those claws are very sharp and will shred any dog's nose. After one or two encounters, most dogs will think twice before sticking its nose back into the meat grinder.

Trixie sure is cute. The Siamese cats I have known have been intensely bonded to their families, and couldn't care less about other people. But I've only really come in contact with two.
