Gun Thread: Some Assembly Required [Weasel]

sig in pieces scaled.jpg
Gun Thread Pop Quiz: Identify this gun!

From a very young age I was fascinated by taking things apart to see how they worked. The only problem being that I wasn't particularly good at putting things back together again. I vividly recall the sheer delight my father expressed when he came home from work one day to discover his little scamp of a son had taken apart a rather expensive clock. What a precocious and inquisitive rascal I was!

This trait followed me into my adult years and has been vigorously displayed with my interest in firearms. Simply cleaning a weapon requires some level of disassembly and I was always curious about all the little pins and springs and other teensy parts that make up the innards of a gun. Frequently my re-assembly attempts ended with leftover parts on the bench, necessitating a frantic YouTube search until a helpful video help was found, or worse, taking the gun and a baggie of loose parts to my gunsmith. Oh the shame.

Two things eventually happened; my collection of Sig Sauer semi-automatic pistols grew large enough, and I got tired of paying for simple adjustments, repairs and parts replacement. It was at this point that I decided to take Sig's Armorer's Course so I packed a bag, pointed the car north, and headed for Epping, New Hampshire.

The Sig Sauer Academy sits on 140 acres a little over an hour north of Boston, MA. The facilities include an assortment of indoor/outdoor ranges, classrooms, tactical training areas and a pro shop. It's a really impressive setup, and I'd been to the Epping facility before taking rifle courses so I was familiar with the layout. Signing up was simple and done online including uploading various credentials required for the specific courses. The armorer's courses are conviently held in locations all over the country, last two days, and cost $430. Upon sucessful completion, students are awarded a certificate good for three years which allows them to fully service the pistols while maintaining the factory warranty. Recertification is a one day refresher class for $260.

The P226 in the picture above is the gun I took apart and put back together about 100 times over the course of two days. You start by working on the smaller sub-assemblies and eventually work up to complete disassembly and re-assembly of the pistol. I thought I'd be cute and organize the parts by group to make it easier, but I guess the instructor had seen this before and helpfully mixed everything up into a big pile for me. Eventually, it was fairly straightforward to take a pile of parts and turn it into a working firearm. The course is quite a bit of fun, but it's also no joke. You must demonstrate proficiency working on the weapons to the instructor and pass a written test. I've found the experience gained even helps in troubleshooting problems with other brands of firearms.

I have to say I'm happy to have taken the course but I haven't felt compelled to keep the certification current. I'm also not sure I'd pay any more than the the $430 they're charging. The quality of instruction is very good but at that price I don't think it's a bargain for the casual shooter. Not a waste, but not a bargain.

What do you think? Would this be the sort of training you would be interested in at that price point?

*****

Well now let's see what else there is to talk about:

I'm seeing more and more ads for laser target trainers of one sort or another. Here's one reviewed by Shooting Sports USA, the PET II Reactive Target Laser, and they seem to be getting both smaller and more functional.

Anyone tried one of these? We featured several models some time ago and they didn't seem to generate much comment.

***

Another week and another round of poo flinging at the NRA This time, Col. Allen West, a member of the NRA board, speaks out against both Wayne LaPierre and the newly-elected President, Calolyn Meadows. The whole mess is turning into a circular firing squad, and somebody needs to get control of this shit and fast. Unless the organization wants to continue to self destruct to the delight of the left, some sort of review committee needs to be formed to clean house. I've been a life member for many years, but otherwise I wouldn't send them another dime.

***

I'm a contrarian and for a long time I resisted trying Black Rifle Coffee because everyone else was jumping on board and singing its praises. Well, I finally gave in and holy cow is it ever good! I mean really very damn good. Really very extra damn good! So don't be a retard and give them a try sooner rather than later. I like the dark roast Blackbeard's Delight, but there are a bunch of different roasts to choose from, and a portion of proceeds benefit military personnel assistance organizations, law enforcement and first responders. Win-Win.

The CZ P10C's striker has a bunch of parts to it, including very small springs. It shot out the back of the slide and distributed its parts all over the living room. Fortunately, we have a tile floor and amazingly I found every one.

I believe, in future, I'll disassemble beyond field stripping while holding the gun inside a large clear plastic bag.

Yep, to the range on my RO duty day this week - only to be rained out for the 3rd time in 5 months. This is mortar-range from the Mexican border, where little/no rain for years is the norm. But I did manage to empty some brass with the new-to-me 1866 Uberti repro, @ 5O yds. Might be able to do the silhouette match with it in a few weeks.

Did shoot an action handgun match yesterday. 1911. Did fine, considering haven't shot it much recently [had planned to put 2OO rounds thru it on duty day, but rain. Action rifle match today cancelled - rain. Sad! Combo centerfire rifle and shotgun. M1 was quite excited to get some range time, but now will have to sit, bored, in the safe, for a while longer.

37 Anyway, on to the wall o' text range report.

Very skippable but added for posterity.

I got to the range last week after missing the week before for the MoMe. It felt very good to get back to killing paper.

I bought a used CZ P07 because Fuck You, Washington State. It's hammer fired with a decocker instead of striker fired, as most of you know. Gun shoots very tight groups. Very tight. Grip is a little thick. There are backstraps but getting them swapped out isn't midlessly easy. There's an extra spring or pin you have to control and the fucking instructions suggest to have a gunsmith do it. Which begs the question: Why include backstraps if the owner ISN'T suppsoed to swap them out???

Regardless, gun fired just fine and will be a nice addition to the sprawl of 9mm handguns I own. Finding extra mags and a holster for it is going to a be a bitch though.

The other reason for the range visit, apart from sanity maintenance, was to give the Nurse a chance to try some 9mm handguns to add to her collection. I brought a Glock 17 and a 19, both Gen 3.

Both guns worked well, though I was 'pushing' my rounds down until I got my shit together and went back to my Jeff Cooper 'stiff arm' modified Weaver stance. Then bullets went in a nice centered group. The Glock 17 just fucking works.

The Glock 19 worked even better though. Both the Nurse and I both managed good, tight groups with the G19. The Great Compromise comes through again. It's not my favorite pistol but...damn if it doesn't deliver. And it's easier to take down and assemble than a bloody 1911.

Great day at the range, 300 rounds went by far too fast.

62 true story: back about 85 or so, we got a call at the Armory, from a casting agent looking for guys with "military hair cuts and belts."

3 or 4 of us grabbed a 151 from the motor pool and drove up to Van Nuys airport.

we were in what was release as "Assassination"

they issued us Air Farce Security Police uniforms, and 1911's.

then they left us alone. bad move. disassembled the 1911's only to find extra parts we couldn't get back in, so we shit canned them and reassembled the weapons w/o them.

since we weren't going to use them for anything but visual props that day,no one noticed, but, somewhere down the road, some Hollyweird armorers musta been mad as hell.

66 Hey J Biden Sniffy,

Another source of oil, coal and other "fossil" fuels is that vast forests were suddenly buried and crushed by Noah's flood.

Remember, the earth was a verdant Garden of Eden. Opulent lushness all over the earth.

Then It All Changed. Look where the oil is today -- under deserts, ice caps and prairies.

All that greenery was rapidly buried and didn't rot like it does on a forest floor today -- it was compressed in an anaerobic state into oil, gas and coal, awaiting the invention of the internal combustion engine.

I've been meaning to try this for several years now and I finally did it!

I have discovered that I will need to find a handgun with a trigger not too far away from the grip. On three of the four guns I tried, I had to get my pointer finger in contact with the trigger and then seat the grip in my hand.

I have very dainty hands.

80 I have been to the SIG Sauer Academy several times, and the instruction is great. I have also taken quite a few classes at Gunsite Academy. One of the classes I took at SIG was the 320 armorer's course. I am not sure if I would go back for the re-certification, but it was worth the initial investment. At least I know how the thing works, and how to take it apart and re-assemble it. I would probably pay about $200 for the re-cert, but it's expensive to get there and back. Car rental, hotel, cost of the class, etc. Just the same, I do go back once a year.

"From a very young age I was fascinated by taking things apart to see how they worked. The only problem being that I wasn't particularly good at putting things back together again."

Suddenly, I don't feel alone any more. I remember as a yute-early teen, I rode the Craftsman riding lawn mower for the lower 3 acres once a week. My neighbor asked my me, via my dad, to mow his half acre. So I did, but the mower was running rough. So I started trying to figure out why.

When my dad came home from work and saw his beloved riding Craftsman mower in pieces on the lawn, let's just call it a learning experience that LCD remembers to this day.

Yes.

I finished testing assorted brands of ammo for my S&W MP15 and went with Red Army Standard 56gr as best bang for the buck.

that out of the way, I tried to see how well I could shoot when I was just trying to hit the target - not testing how the rifle worked.

Pretty well!

29 of 29 in the 8" target at 55 yards - 5 shots in the 8 ring were the *worst* 5 shots. 7 bullseyes.

Tried 100 yards. 28 of 30 on an 17" target. Mostly high but stacked in a 6-8" wide column above the bullseye.

I thought that was ok for peep sights!

That MP15 shoots pretty good.

The usual advice is to find a range with rentals or a well-stocked shop and get lots of time handling and operating all kinds of guns, even if you can't fire them all, to see what feels comfortable. Smaller guns and cartridges for smaller people isn't always the best fit, and you might be surprised by which ones feel comfortable and easy to operate for you. That said, you're doing very well with the .38, so it's a good place to start.

just looking at the picture, I'm going to imagine that you dropped the target with one shot and then walked up and unloaded on it on the ground, then lowered your sunglasses and walked away from it while a car exploded behind you in slow motion.

94 Would love to take any armorer's course relevant to the gunzzz I use. So far, so good, with self-edumucation, and restraint. Do mean to do total disassembly of my XD some time [it's not recommended]. Field strip is nothing, but full disassembly of slide and frame require some pin work. Need to get me some roll pin punches - which I probably need for the [eventual] AR build anyway.

I am convinced that one of the places where a person should be armed is at church, for two reasons. One, it is probably perceived as a soft target by homicidal maniacs, so we should be ready to engage. Two, the Church is an obstacle to would-be tyrants and some day they are going to try to do away with anyone who won't serve the State before God.

Yes, joking aside, the parts in a MkII want to go back together, gravity and other parts just won't let them. Once you figure out how it all fits, you can get them to help instead of fighting you. It doesn't help that it's not exactly intuitive, but none of the steps themselves are difficult.

127 Nurse, also, based on some insights from Morons in the past, I see no reason to not conceal carry wherever it is legal. First, if it's concealed, no one will be having a fit about a gun on the premises. Second, if someone objects, I guess they can ask me to leave and I'm happy to oblige.

Newp. I got it mounted but parents were visiting so dad and I went to the pistol range at Total Firearms in Mason instead.

Also, the mount takes up the whole rail so the MBUS sights had to come off. It's either the scope or the irons and since the scope is 1-4x scope wins for now. There are stlll the MLOK points at 10 and 2 on the forearm but that's for the fancy lads with their EOTechs and their backwards hats and their rap musics. I am a simple unfrozen caveman A2 guy.

134 Nurse, also, based on some insights from Morons in the past, I see no reason to not conceal carry wherever it is legal. First, if it's concealed, no one will be having a fit about a gun on the premises. Second, if someone objects, I guess they can ask me to leave and I'm happy to oblige.

Dan, sounds great! Don't expect to do cowboy action, but got my first lever-action recently, and plan to get it company [45 Colt] in the form of a Ruger or Uberti revolver down the road.

Oh - and only reloading thing I have this time is - a guy at the handgun match was giving away components an older friend of his could no longer use [moving into a care facility]. Old stuff, but in good condition. Large pistol primers will be used in my 45ACP; Win 296 powder [just 1 lb.] likely will help increase my tomato yield - 296/H11O is a bit tricky, not sure this is in perfect condition, I only use it in 3O carbine, and won't take any chances with my Quality Hardware 1943 carbine.

140 I indulged today and brought home a little old Harrington and Richardson 22 revolver. It was made in 1956, blued, six inch barrel, fixed sights. The H and R guns were pretty basic but were reliable and had a reputation for decent accuracy. The double action trigger is the usual H and R heavy but smooth. Single action trigger is decent. This one is nearly pristine. It's clearly seen a lot of rounds but was cared for. It should be a fun little plinker.

I plan to get to the range this week to try it out.

145 60 We had a swap meet at the gun club today.

Question for Weasel and others. ........... It will be used in a Savage model 11 bolt action rifle.
------------

Savage model 11. Maybe the best value in new rifles today. Accurate as all get out, and priced right. And a million accessories are available to trick it out.

About 6 years ago, before I-594 communism in WA state, I answered an online post on a gub thread for a guy who wanted to sell an older model cousin, the 110, in 30.06, wood stock.

We met, and it was obvious the guy was paranoid about gubs. Found out it was gifted to him from some uncle or somesuch who passed, and he just wanted to get rid of it.

It was like new. Probably not more than 50 rounds ever fired, and his departed relative kept it like new.

I got it for $185, down from the $250 he wanted, and the $500+ a new version goes for today. He "worked me" off of my original offer of $150.

My closing question: I know it is a low offer, but I can take it off your hands NOW, and you won't have to worry about it in your house any more.

I still chuckle and approve of my actions that day.

And it was a nail-driver, right up to the time of my boating accident in an icy-cold river.

I've been working with my parish priest about such matters. He's giving the whole idea a listen but is a bit guarded. Our ushers are useless for defense as we have children performing the usher duty.

Yup...originally it was....Great shooter it is but the "weak" spot on the M1 is the firing pin, although this one pin is 20 plus years so I wouldn't call it weak as much as time wears all things eventually.

It is an easy fix and I should have had a back up pin anyways in the butt storage.

Always have extra firing pins for any rifles your own if you can. For the burning times.

171 Indiana has reciprocity for CO CCW holders, so you should be able to keep it loaded if you have CO CCW.

MI considers anything inside a vehicle to be "concealed", so it needs to be cased and in the trunk unless you have CCW, in which case you can keep it loaded wherever you want. IN might be the same way.

Fortunately, a zero numbered bolt head fitted to nearly perfect headspace after gauging it and indexed exactly correct.

JTB is right about using the Lee Universal Decapper Die. It is strong enough to pop most military primers out, if you do it a lot, get some extra decapping pins which are cheap. You will still need to ream the primer pockets out.

If you do get the Lee Handheld press, get the newer model one that has the quick die change feature.

187 A parallel to the disassembly / disassembly learning curve:

How many of ya have modified or made a tool specifically to ease the task on a certain make or model of gun?

I understand that there are modified parts for the various pre Mk.IV Ruger .22 autopistols that greatly ease the re-assembly process.

And I have a modified, (notched) standard screwdriver which lets me easily re-seat the trigger rebound block with internal spring, in a S&W revolver action.

Made that one myself, after paying untold sums to NORAD for their aid in tracking springs I'd launched into low-earth orbit.

And damn shame, I lost the self-made jig I'd built to hold a Remington 870 bolt and carrier in alignment with the operating bars...amazing how smooooooth you can make those actions run, as long as everything is honed and polished and set to run in perfect, parallel order.

Fulfillment wise though, I love working on a good S&W or Colt revolver. There's a Zen in getting it all right, timed, slick'd n' smoothed.

CCW licenses the carrier, not any particular weapon. A CPL holder can carry any legal sidearm they want. But that's for MI. I don't know if other states say you can only weapons that you put on your ticket or whatever.

201 Weasel, fantastic job. Important colon in the next week or two we need to address 80% lower completion in the impending laws in Washington state July 1st. as best as I can understand these Waze it appears that possession of 80% lower and the means to complete it or tools that can be used to construct a non-registered receiver and the intent to complete will become illegal. In other words possession of an 80% lower in a file would be a crime as his possession of a 3D printer and software files to run off a receiver. I think it's actually more catastrophic than that but that's my nutshell interpretation. If that's the case we need to discus 80% lowers and strategies for those of us trapped in the people's republic of Washington and similar extremist jurisdictions. As well as how the state law contrast with federal law and Eddy legal action that may be pinned and trying to fight this ridiculous crap. Thanks for all you do and thanks for addressing us if you think it's worthwhile.

No. You can carry in your car, if it's in the glove box, locked. Easy enough to do in an in accessible way.

On your, person it has to be "locked in a case" separate from the magazine. That's where I have to compromise - not on the "locked case" so much, where it's easy to play games with the letter of the law.

It's the magazine requirement that gets me - I just have to hope I have a few seconds to prepare if the time should ever come

so anyway, yesterday, completely out of the blue, Twin the Eldest asks me if we could go to the range

Yes. Yes, we can.

We grabbed a black duffel bag full of gats, the 20ga & the clay tossing hardware, & a SBR

She ran through a box of .38, a box of 9mm, and most of a box of .45; then off to the trap field.

She had never shot a shotgun before, and managed to hit eight or nine clays out of 44-ish attempts. Shot 50 rounds of 20ga, then asked if I had any more in the truck.

We ran out of time, so we didn't get to shoot the rifle.

She just txt'd me from work & said that her shoulder is "a little tender" & can we go again next weekend

I've about talked her in to coming to the MiMoMe in June. The idea of a flintlock & a crew served anti aircraft artillery piece has her intrigued

209 193 ... Emmie, Yes, it's the Shield which is the smallest version. The M and P Compact is slightly larger but can take more ammo. Mrs. JTB is comfortable with both. Smith really got the ergonomics right with that series.

I went from a Glock to a S&W Shield almost entirely because it offered the thumb safety in that size/caliber. Our youngest has some pretty extensive special needs, and he gets the whole Eddie Eagle don't touch, run away, tell an adult teachings that have been drilled into him, but if something ever happened where he DID get his hands on it, the safety might make the big difference.

That said, I generally flip it off when I'm wearing it.

I realize that if he gets mad and decided to attack me all I have is my phone to throw at him. So I went to the camper and got a pistol just in case. After about 10 minutes, he gets up and trots away. I've never been hunting and have never shot anything living, but it sure made me appreciate having a firearm handy.

If you are interested in tiny 380acp pistols either the LCP II(not the 1st Gen LCP) or the kahr cw380 are good options.

Also the M&P SHIELD 9MM is still dirt cheap at PSA $250.

So if you want a single stack 9mm the Shield, Ruger LC9s or Kahr CM9 are all good choices.

If you want a slightly bigger 9mm the Ruger security 9 pistols are very good for the price either the "full sized" or compact. ( They are the same size as the compact Glock 19 & sub-compact 26)

275 255 I should probably be a little more alarmed than I am that there's roughly 500ml by volume of 3Fg black powder in a brass flask somewhere in my house, wholly unaccounted for.

277 Don't mot black powder guys use the substitutes like Pyrodex, to avoid the black powder problems?

Can't use pyrodex in flintlocks, due to the high ignition temperature, and savvy shooters don't use it in percussion either, because it does horrible things to barrel steel over time.

Black powder isn't nearly as bad as folks seem to think it is.

280 I've been following the NRA debacle from the sidelines. I'm a life member, but I've been working with boards of directors longer than I've been a life member.

First reaction: Too damned many board members. That in turn leads to a very small number of influential directors running the show. LaPierre (that name alone tells me that he should go) probably has his tongue strategically placed, well, wherever.

This kind of diffusion of responsibility on the part of directors almost always leads to an imperial CEO who forgets that he is supposed to answer to the board, not vice versa.

My brother and I had pitched in our meager funds to buy a Kingston bass guitar but could not afford an amplifier.. it would be another year before we had enough for that.
Anyway, I was thinking.. geez THIS is an amplifier! Through sheer luck, I found hacking into the stylus leads on the turntable proved to be perfect for amplifying a bass guitar!
Mom and Dad were aghast.. Dad got a loan for me and bro to buy an amp.. took two years to pay for it.. That's how people raised kids in the 50's/60's. Taught me responsibility

I actually have enough rifles, unless I'm going to be equipping a platoon on my own...and I don't know that many local morons who don't have their own. So I bought some more semi-auto pistols, since that's what the newest fucking gun control law targets.

Anyway. I have another Ruger MK IV coming, with the 45 grip angle. I decided on a Glock 42 for the 380, based on the sheer numbers of inexpensive extended magazines for them. And I decided to get another 1911, a Ruger stainless with wood grips.

It'll be a couple weeks until I can test them, but I'll post another long range report when I do.

I'll be in Victoria next weekend, so will miss my range visit.

I shot a King Cobra many moons ago. It was Colt quality back when that meant something. If you have an old one, say made in the 80's, it should be very, very nice. But honestly, I didn't shoot it any better than a simple S&W model 10. Just the way my hands grip revolvers.

327 Ronster, A properly tuned flintlock with a decent lock should go off about as fast as a percussion gun. A delay usually means the vent hole is too small or there's too much powder in the pan.

Virtually all modern locks need some work out of the box, ranging from light tuning in the case of the better custom locks to extensive rework in the case of the not-so-great. A lock off a factory gun is often a piece of junk. Curiously, even low-end trade locks on originals tend to work very well indeed.

Percussion locks are a lot easier to make functional without a lot of handwork.

Corollary: I bought a Traditions flintlock years ago, with the idea that I would buy a capable, bog-standard, unremarkable but functional example rather than buy a fancy one right off. Then, once I figure out what I like and don't like about the entry-level model, use the money I saved over buying an expensive one right away and put it into a better one, now that I know what I want in a nicer one.

Well it turns out that I want a gun that makes a shaTHOOM sound and a silly cloud of smoke after a perceptible lock time, and then punches big dumb holes in paper around 50-75 yards away with surprising accuracy for a primitive weapon with rudimentary sights. So I never upgraded, because I can't think of anything it doesn't do that I want it to. the wood looks more like dorm furniture than a work of art, but otherwise, mission accomplished.

338 Give me at least a parts diagram and I can usually get an assembly back together and working.

Sometimes a more detailed diagram is needed as to special techniques for disassembly/assembly.

There's a couple firearms I have that without some instructions how they come apart and how they go back together is NOT intuitive.

I've been taking stuff apart to fix for about 60 years. My father was a combo electrician and appliance repair and I learned a lot from him, then 6 years Navy. My working career has always had some component of troubleshooting/repair/assembly within it at some stage.

Strangely enough I don't really care for jigsaw puzzles.

Grey Fox, I agree. But sometimes you get lucky. My Lyman Great Plains Rifle has an excellent lock, especially for a production gun. I also have an old Traditions flinter. Oddly, given their reputation for flintlocks, it sparks well and is almost as fast as the GPR.

341 Appropos of nothing - but gunzzzz!, so, on-topic - early in May, watching the Russian Victory Day parades on russki TV, I was reminded they use SKS's for the parade role. Nice blonde stocks, white leather slings. Think that was the last Russian service rifle with a wood stock - to me, always the best for parade use.

In the US, M1 Garands are standard for parade and "show" drill - correct?

Wonder if any other major countries use wood-stocked rifles in this role [think Japan and South Korea also use M1s].

Related - any Moron who hasn't had the chance to see the Marines' "evening parade" at the Commandant's quarters/barracks @ Eighth and I in DC, do it. Believe it runs June-September. They do other appearances elsewhere, but I think there's nothing like the whole package they do at the barracks.

Posted by: Emmie Oakley at May 19, 2019 09:30 PM

Aw, heck. Sadly, Emmie, I don't have time to expound at length on the pros (and cons) of the 1911 right now. Grip angle, ergonomics, and in .45 ACP, a superb pistol cartridge.

345 She belongs in an unmarked grave, having been previously hung by the neck until dead, dead, dead.

346 On Johnny Carson, it was six Marines it think, doing a drill with arms. I've never seen anything like it sense. It was fantastic.

347 Perhaps next week, if you're around Emmie? Nice target, BTW!

349 L and R, which make excellent flintlocks, offer drop in replacements for a number of older (CVA) and lower price guns. Even with the replacement cost of the lock, it could still be cheaper than some of the higher end (i.e., fancier) flinters.

350 Thank you, Duncanthrax. Next time is fine.

351 342 Mark!

You did not ask me for permission before leaving for Canada land?

How am I going to pop the cherry on my new Glock without you?
Posted by: Nurse ratched at May 19, 2019 09:40 PM (PkVlr)

You don't need me to pop a cherry.
You'll be fine.
We can shoot together week after the holiday

352 OK everyone - before the ONT comes along, thanks again for stopping by! Hope to see you again next Sunday!

Posted by: Weasel at May 19, 2019 09:50 PM (MVjcR)

353 Posted by: Emmie Oakley at May 19, 2019 09:30 PM (4HMW

Nurse can chime in here, too, as she shoots a 1911 better than I do.

But the trigger pull is short and sharp, the weight of the pistol makes the .45 more of a 'push' recoil impulse rather than a 'snap' like a 9mm or a .40. The grip safety is also nice for new gun users.

354 Thanks again, Weasel. These gun threads are such a pleasant way to end the weekend.

Thanks JTB - but if it weren't for you all it would just be me talking to myself!

356 Thanks for the thread, and thanks, especially, for the archive. I skimmed the reloading threads, but now have been informed by She Who Must Be Obeyed that reloading will become my new hobby.

it was designed by John Moses Browning (PBUH) for one.

it's chambered in 45ACP, for another.

it's robust, reliable, often imitated, but never equaled and, at my house, i'm lucky that HRH didn't immediately fall in love with mine, but took the long way around: Glock, MandP, Hi-Power, Para Ord Warthog, Kimber to get to the 1911 frame.

otherwise i'd be SOL.

358 have the hands of a ten-year-old.
Posted by: Emmie Oakley at May 19, 2019 09:03 PM (4HMW

If you really do have tiny hands, the Kahr CW 380 and CT 380 are truly diminutive. (Also, if you get the "mag guts" replacement spring kit you get an extra round in the magazines. From 6 to 7 in the flush fit and 7-8 in the extended/CT sized magazine.)

The Browning 1911-380 is also an okay option for 1911 type of pistol.

But check out the Colt defender in 45acp, it's a little bigger but it is a very nice low recoiling piss compared to others of the same size. ( I know of a few 5'-ish women who love them and shoot them better than anything else.)

359 Also, check out some YouTube videos on any of the pistols mentioned in this post.

360 That's " ...low recoiling pistol compared..."

Posted by: Ratus at May 19, 2019 11:08 PM (oi/mz)

361 Additionally, the way the account describes
senior UK intel types taking the silly "dossier" seriously makes them look ridiculous in ways they don't even seem to comprehend.

And the leftard reporter talks about Steele "uncovering" these allegations. That must be a Brit euphemism for "pulled out of his ass".

Didn't think so.

Posted by: Cold Civil War at May 20, 2019 04:38 AM (Z2PYk)

364 Taught myself to detail-strip a P226. On Saturday competed (badly) in a PRS match. Spent most of Sunday in my reloading space. Training tonight.
