60 kallisto, that's true, or at least it used to be. I think nowadays most people, if they do it at all, just do it at noon.

When my kids were little, our homeschool group met for a few hours on Fridays for some enrichment classes. Before the noon classes we would all gather in one room to pray the Angelus. It was really nice to see all the little kids and moms holding babies all praying together. Those were fun days.

68 GREENVILLE, Mich. -- Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan, the first Republican in Congress to accuse President Donald Trump of impeachable conduct, is facing a primary challenge.

State Rep. Jim Lower (LOW'-ur) announced Monday he's running for the western Michigan seat. The announcement came two days after Amash sent a series of tweets faulting Trump and Attorney General William Barr over special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

The 30-year-old Lower, of Greenville, says he made the announcement earlier than planned after Amash attacked Trump.

Serious question - aren't most funeral receptions kind of spur-of-the-moment? Around here it's usually less than a week between the death and the funeral, unless there are extenuating circumstances. My MIL died on a Thursday night, the wake was Sunday evening and the funeral was Monday morning.

Or are these more of the memorial service type that you have to plan?

87 Anti-money laundering specialists at Deutsche Bank recommended in 2016 and 2017 that multiple transactions involving legal entities controlled by Donald J. Trump and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, be reported to a federal financial-crimes watchdog.

The transactions, some of which involved Mr. Trump's now-defunct foundation, set off alerts in a computer system designed to detect illicit activity, according to five current and former bank employees. Compliance staff members who then reviewed the transactions prepared so-called suspicious activity reports that they believed should be sent to a unit of the Treasury Department that polices financial crimes.

But executives at Deutsche Bank, which has lent billions of dollars to the Trump and Kushner companies, rejected their employees' advice. The reports were never filed with the government.

It is always thus. Those who are willing, end up doing the most work.

At our church, those people are aging out, and I see no inclination or population of younger folk to step in and assume these responsibilities.

It isn't a shortcoming of the church, it is a lack of understanding by the people that real personal contributions to the community are necessary if there is going to be a community.

89 Terrence Malick's new movie, A Hidden Life, screened at Cannes this weekend. The movie was hit with expected reactions (ranging from "A Return to Form!" to "Why can't this guy stop making movies?"), but in more than half the reviews I've read the critics have made explicit parallels to a slice of American politics.

A Hidden Life is about the Austrian conscientious objector during World War II, Franz Jagerstatter. He refused to fight for Nazis, essentially. Critics keep falling over themselves into saying that it's just like evangelicals supporting Trump, and the real conscientious objectors like Franz are those who don't support him.

Of course, the film was made throughout 2016. And, his last few movies were a rejection of modern worldviews (especially Song to Song, which felt like a direct refutation of the sexual revolution), and he's never made a topical film before. But yeah, it's all about Trump.

People read too much into movies, you know?

And then follow through with it, if necessary. Even if you just took a break for a while, you could always go back and help.

It is always thus. Those who are willing, end up doing the most work.

At our church, those people are aging out, and I see no inclination
or population of younger folk to step in and assume these
responsibilities.

It isn't a shortcoming of the church, it is a lack of understanding
by the people that real personal contributions to the community are
necessary if there is going to be a community.

"The Thin Red Line" is such an example. Too many people see Nolte's character as a ruthless striver in the Scientology church, struggling bitterly for the approval of his John Travolta commander/auditor. Captain Staros is a pre-clear suppressive who can't master himself enough to move up the Bridge to Freedom towards Operating Thetan.

But that's not the message that Zod sees in the movie.

It shouldn't have been about actually winning the White House, but about getting 5% of the "popular vote" which then turns on federal funding of the campaign for the next cycle.

They should have reached out to Republicans, pointing out Trump's uncertain political history as an indicator that he wasn't going to govern conservatively, and then been the alternative. Instead, they got overridden by "Republicans are icky", which has been 50% of their party platform for decades.

Romney may not like Trump, and he may launch a few verbal barbs here and there, but he'll never actually do shit about it. That would be too much work, and Romney doesn't do that.

I disagree strongly with what I call Libertarian Internationalism. Our focus needs to be on delivering the goods for US Citizens first. The rest of the world largely doesn't share our values, or our ideas about liberty, and importing droves of third world peasants does little or nothing to improve the third world, while packing the US with people who will vote for third world ideas as soon as they are given the chance.

In opening the border to people without a taste for liberty, you doom liberty.

America could absorb any amount of immigrants, if they were people who were moving here because they loved liberty (or the idea of it), and wanted to alloy their current identity with American culture, to assimilate as all of our forefathers did.

America will not long endure if it grants the franchise to a majority that rejects what she stands for, and seeks to impose some way of life alien to the Constitution.

339 Ukrainian TV star Volodymyr Zelenskiy has sought to capitalize on his huge popularity, dissolving the countrys parliament Monday minutes after he was sworn in as president.

Zelenskiy, who won 73% of the vote last month in his landslide victory, slammed parliament as a hotbed of self-enrichment, and promised to stop the war in the east against Russian-backed separatists.

After he was sworn in but before he moved to dissolve parliament, Zelenskiy asked the Supreme Rada to adopt a bill against illegal enrichment and support his motions to fire the countrys defense minister, the head of the Ukrainian Security Service and the Prosecutor General.

Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak promptly published his letter of resignation on Facebook.

364 Remember this when the cucks and Democrats talk about how the president's trade policies with China are wrong.

We've been shipping ore containing rare earth minerals from California to China for processing and sorting. Keep in mind the U.S. is the biggest consumer of rare earth minerals. China now dominates that field and has the only plant in the world.

The tariffs will increase the cost of shipping to China and the foreseeable future creates trade uncertainty.

So now a U.S. and Australian Company joint venture will be building a plant in Hondo, Texas creating U.S. jobs and decreasing costs all the way across the supply chain.

This is what winning for our country looks like. Bonus, nobody's son got a $3 million dollar bribe or billion dollar contract!

However, Buttigieg is scrolling off the screen - his attempt to out-Left the rest of the field is just a catch-up game, as they cannot be out-Lefted. And that may not be to the Left of the Democrat field, but it is WAY Left of the American public.

I still think Biden will flame out - he never disappoints when it comes to disappointment.

However, Buttigieg is scrolling off the screen - his attempt to out-Left the rest of the field is just a catch-up game, as they cannot be out-Lefted. He had the right instincts when he said it was a bad idea to have the Boston Bomber voting from prison. But now he has hopped on the no restrictions on abortion, ever, train. And that may not be to the Left of the Democrat field, but it is WAY Left of the American public.
Posted by: blaster at May 20, 2019 10:59 AM (9VeU0)

==========

Buttigieg was never more than a media creation. His best showing in any poll was, what, 10% in NH? Something like that.

The media is floundering for the far left golden child to carry across the finish line against Trump, but actual Democratic voters are uninterested in the intersectional game.

I strongly suspect he made his announcement knowing that he was sick of the job he had now, and he had already lined up some sweet high paying position at either some foundation or some leftwing university. I don't think he's going to put much effort into the primary at all.

Ben Sasse is another one who's sick of his job and is likely to drop out and go to some University job as soon as his term ends, but we gotta wait til 2022 for that.

It ended like a story coming to a conclusion.

It was surprisingly hopeful, but not overly so. The wheel wasn't quite broken, but the system was heavily modified. It won't fix everything (the bickering at the first meeting of the Small Council proved that), and it's Martin wishing himself to be king (the storytellers will show us the way!), but it still fit.

Plus, utopionism got knifed in the heart. I always like when that happens.

452 So is there any good news for Trump for 2020? I looked on Drudge and all I see is bad news. I know, I Know the polls were wrong in 2016 and all that. However I am a firm believe that good fortune only lasts so long and that the bad guys win to. Are there any solid data points showing that the Conservatives will beat the lefties in 2020? Something to sooth my nerves....maybe?

453 He's a Targaryan. He had ridden one of the dragons (I assume the other), so there's some level of a personal connection. Also, dragons are talked about like they have high intelligence, so even the dragon may have seen that killing Dany was the right thing to do.

Considering how much being dominated is fetish material for women in romance novels and other erotic literature, this probably has implications. It would also explain their fondness for importing Muslims.

It felt more in character for Jon to refuse to do it and then offer himself up to Arya. She takes his face and kills Dany.

But Jon had his arc. He was lawful neutral (I think), like his erstwhile papa Ned. In the end, he made the decision that Ned would never have done, which was stab Dany in the heart.

I think it worked quite well.

Yes, especially with leftists. All of their literature has nothing to do with reality, or with us, but is just erotic fantasy that lets them play with the desires that they don't dare admit that they have.

In my opinion Biden's biggest problem is going to be his feebleness, Hillary could deflect that issue a little because she could sit down and still talk without that showing. Biden can't, he shakes, slurs, moves slowly and just looks wore out, he can't hide that.

They guy who commissioned the painting never came to pick it up. The painter added a steeple and changed the name from "Praying for the crop" to "Angelus." Prayer for the departed. You're sort of expected to hear the bells of the distant church.

The painting is known for driving the prices of Barbizon paintings in the 1800's.
