32 Willowed:

I saw the clip of Beta on the view and his groveling apology for being white and male. I can't express how disgusted I was with his pathetic performance. White leftists, this is not a good look. It won't make those of us un-privileged people like or respect you (I won't even start on how racist and sexiest his whole privilege thing is). We and other sane people will just view you with disdain, at best. And you are just announcing to the salivating SJW predator mob that you are fresh meat.

And his stupidity was in response to a vapid question from Meghan McCain about how no woman could get away with what Beta did. (No, she wasn't referring to his actual crimes but some stupid stuff he said or did.)

Meghan, women today get away with all sorts of inanity, in case you haven't been paying attention.

I feel like I always lose at least a few IQ points on the rare occasions I watch clips from The View.

Pretty much any information I see is from Twitter at this point (Like the Iranian lady dragged away by police yesterday for taking off her hijab). There are reports of general unrest, but due to the information embargo it's hard to get a good sense of what's going on.

The account that probably brings the most up-to-date info (or at least is a good starting point to find others to follow) is Jasmine Mohammed's @ConfessionsExMuslim. @Imamofpeace is also a good source of info. He's enough pro-Israel and pro-US that it's hard to tell if he's legit.

You don't have to use points. Painting in fragmented brush strokes of relatively pure primary colors you can allow the eye to do the blending. Done well, it creates an effective picture which gives the eye and mind lots to do while viewing. I find this technique very useful with water colors. Its the only way to paint with WC and produce paintings that can be enjoyed at a distance. Too many WC follow the British method of endless glazes which when viewed at a distance (10 feet) die to viewer.

I'm happy to have started this; Brett deserves it. Good fielder, but not truly great. The best game I ever attended was in the mid-70s in Baltimore, vs the Yanks. Brooks and Graig Nettles put on a "can you top this" show at 3rd. (The 2nd game, DeCinces played, and though not a bad fielder, he just wasn't in the same class.)

But yes, all around, Brett gets it for his era.

Corruption is not a failure of capitalism, it is a failure of all human systems. Nothing, from monarchy, to oligarchy, to councils of elders, to socialist states, to republics is or can be made immune to it.

The only defense against corruption is to make the use of any power depend on the agreement of competing interests, and make its users extremely accountable to others for its use and misuse.

Get any old-timer NRA member going, and you'll hear about how these things happen in cycles. There was a huge foofaraw in progress when they brought in Charlton Heston. The organization was about to disintegrate.

Ditto, mid-1970's. You NEVER hear, even here, about what "the real issues are." The competitions side, such as it is, has almost nothing in common with the lobbying/politics side. The Olympic shooting administration, now USA Shooting, only "broke away" (or "got expelled") a generation ago, blink of an eye in NRA years.

Other long-running organizations manage to cover their tracks a little better.

This past weekend, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took to Instagram Stories to talk about her recent experience at a nail salon. She told her Instagram audience, "I just went to the nail salon just so I can feel human. Nothing special, just trying to get some paint, cut my cuticles, whatever... My nails are getting painted, and the woman's like, 'Your eyebrows are too big for your face,' and I'm sitting there, and she's like, 'Mustache?' And I'm like [gasps]." AOC continued, saying, "First of all, I thought I came here to feel good about myself. Second of all, what if I like my mustache? Ever think about that?"

Can confirm. It's a many sport and if you grow up playing it, you will take less shit from people.

There's two sports worth playing, for different reasons: rugby and swimming. Both will get you into shape.

Rugby will hurt you but you will grow stronger.

Swimming also makes you strong but you can die doing it...though you probably won't.

Video games do teach some important things.

Shooters enhance reflexes and hand-eye coordination.
RPGs are a vehicle for telling heroic stories.
RTS games enhance multi-tasking.
Grand strategy games teach long-term planning.
Almost every type of game can teach patience, as jumping the gun and charging in unprepared is most often a recipe for disaster.

Gaming isn't bad in of itself. It's all a matter of what you play.

Because of gamblers' interests, you can't discuss it, but "mandatory sport" was imported to this country in the same decade with Owen Socialism, the Co-op movement, forced education at public expense, and Volk romantic nationalism. None of it is very American.

Americans shoot rifles, race horses, and I might give you swim races and rowing boats real fast. The rest is part of the Euro thing, always has been.

491 Re Death penalty by lethal injection and FDA. In the 1980's, with the case Heckler v. Chaney, the Supreme Court rejected the idea that the FDA had to regulate death penalty drugs to make sure that they were "safe and effective". In essence, the respondents argued that because the drugs used in lethal injections had not gone through the normal FDA approval process that they could not be used.

The HHS Secretary, Margaret Heckler and the administration argued that it was silly to apply FDA standards to drugs that knowingly promoted death when injected. A death penalty drug by definition could never be "safe" from inflicting death and injury when given at levels that caused death.

Death penalty opponents were hoping to prohibit the lethal injection mode of execution with this gambit as prior problems with gas chambers, electric chair, and firing squads, let alone hanging, all had documented instances where they had gone awry. Thus, due to the 8th Amendment Cruel and Unusual clause, and the Supreme Court's 1950's opinion that made this a moving standard, the opponents hoped to end the death penalty by denying any means to the state to conduct executions.
