Actually the Minnesota GOP did run someone against Ilhan Omar. She lost to the Democrat Party lies and the wonderful diverse Ilhan Omar. Omar actually won by a bigger margin than her predecessor, Keith Nation of Islam Ellison. We also had two incumbents beaten in the Minneapolis Saint Paul suburbs. Jason Lewis and the NeverTrumper weenie Eric Paulsen.
But we did take two long time DFL outstate seats with now Republican Congressmen. They won seats that were won by Democrats in 2016, when PDT almost won the state.

Minnesota was reliably blue almost entirely because of the Iron Range communities up north; extending through northern Wisconsin and Michigan too. Old school union Democrat folks.
Also, Duluth, which is one of the largest cities outside of the Twin Cities, college town, technically not Iron Range, but Great Lakes shipping for iron ore, etc.
They've been tilting more conservative since 2008 for obvious reasons.

I knew who Shughart and Gordon were, but never really had interacted with them. I knew other guys who were wounded in Mogadishu, but no one else who died.
It was not worth the lives of any of them. If they had stuck to the humanitarian mission, fine. But when we transitioned to trying to take down the warlords, that was the wrong place, wrong time.

MIL can't...well she could. There is a kitchen at her nursing home that she's free to use but...lazy.
One nephew is single. We're lucky if he brings beer.
Other nephew and his wife: He's the cook...and a darn good one but...he has a work schedule that is 4 days on, 4 days off...and often overtime. So never sure if he'll be coming. She's not a cook but a 'Dessert!' person.
My daughter...fergetit.
My son and DIL...she's a good cook and a HUGE help in the kitchen before and after meals. But she doesn't really offer to 'bring' anything. Imma work on her.
That was the Easter crew this year. T-day and Christmas are larger. Then there's all the summer BBQ's because we have a pool and yada, yada, yada...

Mmmmm. Husband is in the Midwest on his annual turkey hunt/complete waste of two weeks of leave, daughter and son in law had to work so it was just me, the dog, and a 10 pound ham. Mixed some peach preserves, bourbon, and brown sugar together for a glaze. Turned out pretty good. Got lots and lots of leftovers.

That was an interesting article in the sidebar about the 737 Max. Basically, you had software people who never flew planes writing control software.
Boeing turned the 737 into a dynamically unstable design with the modifications. Computers were used to compensate. Computers which can't be overridden.
The idiots who wrote the software didn't even put "sanity checks" into, apparently. There were two computers one each side. But each computer only used one set of sensors on its side. They didn't cross-check to see if the sensors agreed. If one computer was flying the plane, it used only it's sensors and didn't bother with the other set.
Pilot and copilot always compare their instruments. If they disagree, it means one (or both) is wrong.
The computers didn't do that.

Think about it like a chemical engineer (which I'm not).
You have heat deposition from the torch, but also heat being conducted away by all surrounding wood.
You also have an adverse surface area to volume ratio. There's a lot of wood, and not much exposure to oxygen.
Similarly, turn it around. Why do people use kindling to start a fire? To minimize these two problems.
I would imagine igniting a 12 inch square beam is not that easy.

One of the most useful camping tricks I was ever shown was to take the strike anywhere matches and dip them in hot wax, then put the cooled ones in a medicine bottle. That plus some cotton balls or dryer lint mixed with vaseline are reliable and waterproof fire starters.

When the Blackhawk that Michael Durant crashed (shot down with a volley of RPG's), Gary Gordon and Randy Shughart (Delta Force operators) volunteered to go in and give them cover fire (they didn't know then that Mike Durant was the only survivor). Speaking anecdotally, the chestnut beams in our 250-year-old Colonial are hard as rock. And the old beams from the barn renovation were very reluctant to shuffle off this mortal coil in the nice funeral pyre we made for them.
A reason that it spread to the entire roof so quickly, I think, is that the area containing the fire was a closed space (although with plenty of air inlets) underneath a heavy roof, and there were no firebreaks anywhere in the building. Once a fire got going anywhere in that space, the entire enclosed area was going to head north of 1,000 degrees F very quickly, and at that point every piece of wood would burst into flame no matter how thick it was.
