“To be sure, it was not Easter Sunday but Holy Saturday, but, the more I reflect on it, the more this seems to be fitting for the nature of our human life: we are still awaiting Easter; we are not yet standing in the full light but walking toward it full of trust.”

6 OR truly is a fked up State.

A county in Oregon has agreed to pay a former employee a $100,000 settlement after she sued the county for racial discrimination because a co-worker had posted a Blue Lives Matter flag in an office in support of local police.

Under a normal judge this would be thrown out of court and that 'employee' and idiot lawyer would have to pay legal costs.

There's at least one area of agreement among conservative, centrist and liberal leaders in the United Methodist Church: America's largest mainline Protestant denomination is on a path toward likely breakup over differences on same-sex marriage and ordination of LGBT pastors.

25 worst jobs is interesting.
I'm not sure where the info comes from, but it seems a little off. They give the average wage, which looks like they included people that are not very active in working the job.
Also, the one for truck driver was amusing to me....
"Though the projected job growth for truck drivers is only slightly lower than for the average American job, this career could be at risk of disappearing as companies like Tesla continue to develop autonomous driving technology."

I can't believe autonomous trucks are going to replace drivers anytime soon

25 worst jobs is interesting.

I'm not sure where the info comes from, but it seems a little off.
They give the average wage, which looks like they included people that
are not very active in working the job.

Also, the one for truck driver was amusing to me....

"Though the projected job growth for truck drivers is only slightly
lower than for the average American job, this career could be at risk of
disappearing as companies like Tesla continue to develop autonomous
driving technology."

I can't believe autonomous trucks are going to replace drivers anytime soon

Posted by: Bruce at April 21, 2019 06:12 AM

DOT is not going to allow any driverless trucks on the highway until they have trillions of hours of testing under every conceivable condition.

Maybe they will allow limited runs in certain low density areas in 5-10 years, but that technology is still decades away from any serious use.

94 Ruptly is the only news org that has video of some of those explosions. Just like coverage of the Paris protests every Saturday, it is only Ruptly and Sputnik, both Russian news orgs, that seem to cover it. And it is live footage, not some summary after the fact.

Again, why is it that we have to depend upon Russia for coverage of anything outside the US? And even more irritatingly, the Paris riots were referenced in a tiny Daily Mail article yesterday--as reported by Reuters--that the riots were stepping up a bit. Well, gee, that is great for you to barely let us know, Reuters, but where have you been all along? Does this mean that Reuters reporters are there every Saturday, watching the developments, and only occasionally report on the happenings? That is really disgusting, if true.

119 I watch the protests every week.

Seems like there are at least three distinct groups 'protesting'.

1 Yellow vests, protesting the gas increase, at least initially. They mostly peacefully walk, sing, chant, hold signs, etc.

2 The anarchists and idiots out for a destructive time, falling in with the yellow vest crowds. They are hell bent on destroying stuff, setting fires, stealing stuff from shops, seemingly just for the fun of it. They are usually wearing full face masks and all black clothing.

3 The people there videoing the events, without any real commitment to anything except the spectacle of it. This includes tourists and people with PRESS stamped on their vests or helmets. Haven't seen too many PRESS people the last few weeks, tho.

Add to that the police force which has beaten the hell out of both yellow vest wearers and black face mask wearers. Seeing it live can be somewhat shocking, but not unexpected, tensions are high.

148 good morning horde ... Happy "Easter", or happy holy Saturday.

By our calendar JC arose on Saturday night at sunset ... died Wednesday at sunset to get the three full days (to fulfill the law and prophecies). But their days began at sunset, which is a little odd, but even now some Jews that observe the Sabbath begin that on Friday at sunset, till Saturday at sunset, as I hear it. So JC arose at the beginning of the Bible's Sunday, but almost 12 hours before the sun arose, at which point the angel said "he is not here for he is risen". So really, he was dead three days, he arose on the fourth day.

The "Easter" name supposedly appeared, somewhere in the merging with some of the pagan dogma (Ishtar, fertility, gods in human form) .. much of which is somewhat innocuous (various rituals), other parts (imo) lead to guilt trip Christianity (focus on suffering, his and ours) more than "in all things more than conqueror, abundant life" styles of Christianity.

The thing about HeIsRisen .. it is finished, payment made, no more SJW judgmental legal claims that we owe the devil "his due" in reparations and groveling, or other guilt trips. Nope .. deliverance/redemption from evil via JC. Hurray.

Look up the listings for your local Speed Queen dealer. The one that supplies Laundrymats and Washeterias.

You can buy a Commercial Washer there, but without the coin-box attachment.

That'll quite literally last longer than you will on this Earth.

A close second is a Commercial Grade Maytag. You will find these *only* at the same kind of dealer that you'd find the Speed Queen. You will *not* find them at any Big Box or other retail establishment.

Enjoy a Blessed Easter!

My dad just had to replace his 40 year old Maytag washer. Yes, 40 years old. Having just replaced our old-fashioned one, I told him to get the most basic, plain washer he could find. One where he can set his own water level. One where he can control all the things he's used to, and one that doesn't have annoying "bells and whistles" that will drive him crazy. I despise my new Maytag washer.

Let's try this again...

I remember Dubya getting beaten to a pulp by the press and doing nothing about it. There was a WAR on - and still defending the cause was beneath him.

Never forget that the Bush White House did NOT dispute Rather's bogus story. Their pushback was to say "meh." Bloggers did the heavy lifting.

Now you'd think a guy who was being called a deserter during the heat of a presidential campaign with a major war hanging in the balance might rouse himself enough to defend his reputation - at least for the sake of the nation he purported to lead.

But you'd be wrong.

It's funny, though. Dems bash Bush and expect conservatives to be offended or rise to the bait as they once did. Now they agree and amplify.

Oh, Happy Easter!

What Jim said, except ...

Depending on where you live, you may not be able to buy a SpeedQueen commercial. We were going to go that route, but a dealer in Austin was fined $10K for selling a commercial washer to a private party. This apparently a big no-no, and to my understanding, a national thing. Check and see locally, but don't be surprised if you can't buy one.

right ... Easter is in the Bible once, but it should be translated "passover". Hard to say how they came up with "Easter", but sunrise services are common, and the linking of the bunny and fertility pretty undeniable (we old people had those little baskets with bright green fake grass, and chocolate bunnies). Much of the symbolism is not in the Bible, but adopted and merged from somewhere. Just which ancient tradition found its way into "TheChurch" is pretty convoluted, with nobody wanting to claim them adopted anything "pagan".

The fight over symbolism is rather important, imo. Culture wars and all that. JC was "our passover" lamb forever, so changing the name led to confusion, and maybe watering down of the truth.

Posted by: illiniwek at April 21, 2019 09:25 AM (Cus5s)

227 Oh, I think the symbolism is baked in. Spring is the time of rebirth, so you have a rebirth ceremony around the equinox.

Midwinter gives hope when the days start to get long again, so you have a birth ceremony around he solstice.

I only heard of that (or remembered it due to searches) in the last few minutes. What can be said for sure, is somehow Passover got changed to Easter, when "Passover" would carry much more biblical meaning.

Maybe it is as simple as my last link claimed, and more of a political/marketing argument. The Catholic church found it useful to keep celebrating HeIsRisen on Sundays, which is pragmatic. But that was not always the real Passover day. So they changed the name ... but why to "Easter"?

Where did the bunnies and eggs come from, if not from the conveniently analogous spring festivals and fertility? (and the winter solstice festival with the trees, JC was born around September, no special festival called for for his birth). I think our own current commie march through America demonstrates how easily liberty minded cultures get infiltrated by the ever present evils. So Pope Benedict made the point of "holy Saturday", perhaps to resist that problem.

But the base message is retained ... He Is Risen.

The outlet adds that the NJT is "a radical Muslim group in Sri Lanka." The information regarding the terrorism warning allegedly comes from "documents seen by" the news agency.

237 The use of "digital" electronics is actually ruining appliances from a reliability standpoint. To lower costs the low voltage digital brains are not well protected from the surges and transients that appear on home power lines.

The brains fail after a few years of use and there is no off switch in the traditional sense. The controls are always powered-up to some degree.

I work with microprocessors every day. My appliances that use a timer all have "old-fashion" synchronous motors with cams. Older refrigerators used a cam timer for the defrost cycle. Now they use a digital board that cost about $5 (installed cost $200+) and they die all the time. Landfills are getting full of appliances with $5 failures that are perfectly functional mechanically.

The second order effect is, what quality of mechanicals are you going to use with something that's going to shit the bed in three years anyway. Crappy pumps, second rate gaskets and belts, self tapping screws in high vibration environments.....So the weak link drives the level of quality down.

Cheapness galore. And the units are more expensive but they have to have the hype to sell it. Except the new rent-seeking performance certification are all in with driving the market based on some BS authority they have falsly urserped for themselves.

Kind of like having GHG/CAFE Standards for your toaster. Absurd.

It is worth it to hunt down quality used appliances that have been looked over. There is a used appliance place in my town that does a real good business , partly due to folks growing awareness of the issues of living your Robot Life fantasies, The guys there don't have to sell, so they are the ones that do the actual repair and refurbish. They are extremely knowledgeable about the issues.
Sad because they are one generation away from extinction. They will be found next to the TV repairman in the technology hall of shame.

I am far from a neo-Luddite. It's not the visual aesthetics that appeal to me, it's the economics of quality in design and manufacture.

Rant off. Sorry, this is one of my pet peeves.

Obviously.
