We discovered another bit of bureaucratic madness. It used to be that you could take junk boats to the transfer station, pay your money and get rid of them. When my husband tried that yesterday, they told him he needed the title. This is a boat with holes drilled in the bottom. There's no title. And they told him the law had changed.
After calling our good friends at Code Enforcement and DNR, we learned the law hadn't changed. It's just a requirement by Waste Management. And supposedly you can get a law officer to sign off on the boat as a hulk and use that to get the dump to take it. The thing is, you would think they would want junk boats disposed of properly. They should make it easy to get rid of junk like this. But they don't. I guess you are supposed to bury it. Posted by: notsothoreau at April 19, 2019 08:55 PM (JKNZq) 85

49 -- Tami -- The fifth season of Bosch was released on Netflix today. Bosch is a police procedural based on Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch crime novels. The seasons don't follow the books exactly. Season 4 was a mashup of at least two of the books. OTOH, I think Netflix is staying pretty close to Connelly's original intent. The XO and I watched two episodes tonight.

DNR frowns on you sinking boats. They tried to hold us responsible for a boat somewhere off the end of the dock they had us remove. No one knows where the boat came from. We had a diver try to put a line on it, but couldn't budge it. Even DNR stopped trying to ding us for it.

111 49 -- Tami -- The fifth season of Bosch was released on Netflix today.

Oh, I put this in the wrong thread.
I was driving home this evening and saw two cars pulled over on the side of a major highway. One person was outside the driver's side door of the rear car. I'm not sure if it started just then or it was already happening but when I looked the guy outside was whaling away on the driver, roundhouses from both hands. I pulled up behind the victim's car and formulating an intervention plan when punchy guy stopped, got in his car and drove off. I pulled up next to the victim's car on the off-road side and he was a mess. Older guy (Punchy was young) in a daze. So I called 911. When Old came to he asked if I had seen the punching, and I told him I had and that I'd called the cops. Cops came and I ended up waiting around for an hour to give a statement. Unfortunately because I was behind the victim's car I didn't get a look at Punchy's car, but I did get a good look at him. So I'm telling you the story because my heart is still racing. Intervening in something like that is sketchy. You were obviously dealing with a man who, if he had a gun, would use it on you. Or at least attack you. And, you have no idea what precipitated the attack. So what do you do? Well, the prudent thing is to run over the attacker with your car, of course. And then sort things out later. Posted by: Commissar Hrothgar at April 19, 2019 09:12 PM (f3oO4) Warning noted, and appreciated. This is a fiberglass septic tank, and the material seems to be sound. I did an "endoscopy" on it today. Stuck my digital camera on the end of a metal tube, and rigged a crude remote shutter release. Dangled a trouble light down in there to light it up, and managed to take a half dozen pics. There is a large bolted flange where the inlet side is bolted up to the center trunk that has the riser. And there is an odd stain at that flanged joint on the north side, at about 3:00 or 3:30. Not direct evidence of a leak, but I think I will have to dig that area out. And if you decide to get into a situation, you better have gamed it out well beforehand.
Well, there's the rub ain't it? I intervened physically in a much more dangerous situation (dark stairway, NYC, child wailing) but I was 27 and ripped. I'm not so much either now. I was trying to game it out in real time. Fortunately just the fact of my stopping ended it. I'm pretty sure I would have got out of the car. You know, these personal stories have me thinking on the Passion of the Christ. Not surprising, given the day. The movie really is interesting if you look at in terms of theme. The idea that there is this vast weight of human sin, carrying our souls down to Hell. 'No one can take it all' Satan whispers to Christ in the Garden.
Pretty much every example of human sin is on display in the movie thereafter, in all it's horrifying glory- showing the need for Christ. Even through all of the trials, Christ perseveres because he loves us. Today I downloaded the new version of the Brave browser for 64-bit Win7. I am less than thrilled with it. It just doesn't look right. First off, they put the "tab" bar at the very top, above the address bar. That's just plain dumb. Second, open a new tab, and instead of getting a blank black page, you get some sort of cheerleader page, wherein Brave congratulates itself on all the crap it has blocked. That is downright annoying.

How in the hell did Mexican troops disarm the American troops in the US ... oh, forgot about the new kinder gentler military. Probably not allowed to have ammo!

I actually had a casual friend who turned up missing, back when I was in junior high school. I think it was sometime around 1979 or 1980. Was reported in the Long Beach Press-Telegram.
What's weird is, I don't remember what ended up happening. I believe it turned out he was kidnapped by a relative and murdered, but not sure about that at all. Posted by: qdpsteve at April 19, 2019 10:10 PM (miE9U) Posted by: Jewells45 at April 19, 2019 10:11 PM (dUJdY) 374
Just a warning, I'll be in Memphis, TN, from Sunday evening until Wednesday afternoon. New job is headquartered there.
Apparently it's cheaper to fly me there to get the company lapdog set up than ship the darn thing to me. Posted by: Blanco Basura - It's OK, I'm with the banned at April 19, 2019 10:12 PM (0bu2O) 375

Every once in a while I regret being banned from twitter, then I open another beer and it's like it never happened!
I have found that works like a charm in many situations. Posted by: dartist at April 19, 2019 10:12 PM (K22Va) 378

Today I downloaded the new version of the Brave
browser for 64-bit Win7. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at April 19, 2019 10:10 PM (TfwlC) I loved the version of Brave about two or three versions back. Once you figured it out it was a fantastic browser. Then my computer crashed and I lost that version. Whatever it is I now have as the "Brave" browser, stinks on ice and is essentially unusable! The only question is, does she actually believe this, or is she playing politics? I don't think it much matters. PDT was exonerated by Mewler's report and she' acting as though that never happened. What she's doing is sowing discord for no reason. She should resign immediately. And the GOP in Congress should censure her outrageous and nonsensical actions. We need to get serious about the people we send to DC to manage the country in our stead. An awful lot of them appear to be quite crazy. And they're focusing on this BS and not doing their real jobs. #PurgeProgressivismBAMN Posted by: BackwardsBoy says #PurgeProgressivismBAMN at April 19, 2019 10:16 PM (HaL55) 385
368 You know, these personal stories have me thinking on the Passion of the Christ.
Posted by: Aetius451AD Work Laptop at April 19, 2019 10:10 PM (hv/hU Christ was given a glimpse of the incredible weight of the sin debt he would have to bear in the Garden of Gethsemane before His crucifixion. Even He asked that the cup pass Him by if it were God's will. Imagine the weight of all the sin of the world, throughout all time. It's incredible to think of and only makes the Grace of Salvation even more incredible and us, by inverse, so utterly unworthy of it. Posted by: AlaBAMA at April 19, 2019 10:18 PM (pUDQf) 386

It's easy to say someone should have seen the signs of an abuser earlier or she should have left him the first time he hit her. But it isn't so easy. All too often, the abused person comes from an abusive family and thinks that behavior is normal. Or the abuser has convinced the abused person that she/he makes the abuser become violent. Or the abused threatens to kill either the partner of the kids or sometimes both. There are hundreds of variations.
