The frantic shifting of the goalposts and flat-out hallucinatory ramblings of the left-wing media was a delightful beginning to the Passover/Easter weekend. Enjoy their tears, their rage, their impotence (wait...that's not what I meant!), and most of all the reality that while they will posture and bluster and rant and rave, they have been rocked back on their heels. And isn't that nice!

385 368 You know, these personal stories have me thinking on the Passion of the Christ. Not surprising, given the day. The movie really is interesting if you look at in terms of theme. The idea that there is this vast weight of human sin, carrying our souls down to Hell. 'No one can take it all' Satan whispers to Christ in the Garden.

Pretty much every example of human sin is on display in the movie thereafter, in all it's horrifying glory- showing the need for Christ. Even through all of the trials, Christ perseveres because he loves us.

In effect, the Left is claiming that the Russians cheated BY TELLING THE TRUTH TO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC! No one has ever claimed the e-mails were fabricated, only that they were released.

So, to the Left, telling the American Public the truth, during a Presidential election, IS CHEATING!

68 Saw the story about the Mexican troops questioning US soldiers - it's a bit more nuanced than at first glance. First, the Americans were outnumbered 6 - 2, and they were in an unmarked vehicle near the border. (they would have looked like narcos) Also, it was in a remote area where the location of the border was unclear (need that wall!) I give everyone credit for being able to talk their way out of that situation without anyone being shot on either side, which could have easily happened if anyone got too jumpy.

105 I see Mitt Romney, that severely conservative pillar of the Republican party, has condemned Trump and associates, and said that he is "sickened and appalled" by their actions.

Yeah, Mittens, it's Trump who is the problem. Not Obama and Hillary, who weaponized the law enforcement agencies of the federal government to illegally spy on Trump's campaign, broke multiple laws, lied to FISA judges, and committed outright f*cking treason by trying to undo Trump's election.

But none of that can even begin to compare to Trump being uncouth and angry and using foul language, right Mittens?

What an ass Romney is. You know what sickens and appalls me, Mittens? That I actually voted for you in 2016. I want my vote back, you pathetic loser. You are a colossal fraud, and a miserable excuse for an American.

166 Burgett's series of books on WWII were excellent reading. His firsthand account of D-Day, Market Garden, Bastogne, and Germany. I might have to read them again soon.

Speaking of books, my college girlfriend looked up a veteran listed in the index of The Longest Day, by Cornelius Ryan, and arranged for me to meet him (a surprise to me) at Ft Dix on June 6, 1994. James Blackstock, 4th Infantry, Utah Beach, wounded several times over the course of about a month. Finally hit bad enough that his war was over.

Cornelius Ryan spent time with his unit in Normandy. I got to meet several of his platoon mates at Dix. One of them told me that by the time they fought in the Huertgen Forrest, more than half their platoon had ditched their M1s, carbines (they didn't like them much for front line combat) and Thompsons. Everyone who could get their hands on one had a BAR.

There are of course many other events, such as the emergence of FenelonSpoke as a force of good, and the continuing efforts of Ace and the Cobs, that point to a positive outcome for this best of all possible worlds.

...and as a bonus I am going to completely not push myself into this!

Sincere congrats to those of the Horde who have managed to carve out some happiness. Onward and upward!

Insomniac hisself was out here at the Orlando House today, lending his insight into just how we're gonna muscle a fully loaded Craftsman tool tower into the Mazda 5.

Fortunately, the tower breaks down into three segments. But the base unit is gonna be a beyotch, regardless.

Why load 'em full? Only cubic inches the tools will fit, as all the OTHER cubic inches in the vehicle have reservations for all kinds of other hardware, carefully packed boxes, soft bags and assorted boxes to be squeezed into every available nook n' cranny.

I'm thinkin' this is gonna be a "Full to the Roof" kind of loadout.

But yeah. Insomniac is a stand up Moron in every respect.

Nurse Ratchett chose... wisely.

190 So, I have proven Russian Collusion. It's all so obvious now. The reason Mueller failed to find it is that his scope was wrong. Without going into too much detail:

- In 1914, Czar Nicholas II went to war with his cousin and entered the Great War, fighting Germany.
- The Eastern Front helped assure Germany's defeat
- The French, still smarting from the Franco-Prussian War, imposed harsh reparations on Germany after the war.
- The post-war German government, wracked with mismanagement, forced deindustrialization and war debt, became unstable
- The collapse of the Wiemar government help usher in the era of Adolph Hitler and Nazis
- The rise of the Nazis, their economic power and their racial theories inspired a young Donald Trump while he was studying then-recent history
- Donald Trump capitalized on his position as a real estate mogul and leveraged it into the presidency, giving him his ultimate opportunity to impose his Nazi-inspired ideology on an unsuspecting America.

The collusion was there - it was just there 100 years ago. Those sneaky Russians play a very long game indeed.

This goes deeper than we ever imagined.

206 I just went out to eyeball the weather, and realized that it is full tonight. More to the point, it is the Paschal Full Moon. From the net:

Simply speaking, the Paschal Full Moon is the first full Moon after the spring equinox. Also called the Egg Moon, this Moon sometimes occurs in March and sometimes in April.

The word Paschal means “Passover” in Greek (a transliteration of the Hebrew word pesach). This Moon is significant because it is used to determine what date Easter will fall on each year. This is why Easter is a movable holiday, occurring anywhere from late March to late April.

210 Cornelius Ryan spent time with his unit in Normandy. I got to meet
several of his platoon mates at Dix. One of them told me that by the
time they fought in the Huertgen Forrest, more than half their platoon
had ditched their M1s, carbines (they didn't like them much for front
line combat) and Thompsons. Everyone who could get their hands on one
had a BAR.

My dad was on a 40mm Bofor gun that brought up the rear of of the 4th Infantry going in there. They went to Remagen I think. He got on the Bofor on advice from his older brother who advised him to go to school if he got a chance because the infantry was taking a beating. His older brother was on Pearl Harbor on December 7th and the battle of Saipan. From letters to my grandma.

Do some work at and on the place.

Put a fresh coat of paint on what needs it.

Fix some fences. Weld some pipe rails. Build some new target frames, to the existing patterns.

Police the area, making sure it's spotless, trashless and pristine.

Sweep what needs sweeping.

Take a pressure washer out, and make everything shiny n' clean.

You get the idea.

And you'll be welcomed to shoot, and never considered a pest, ever.

* There was no evidence to corroborate this."

It is mostly salacious details with a little write-off at the end about how it's all BS that either didn't happen, or wasn't criminal, or wasn't active conspiracy - and often all three.

They may well regret that. They'll regret it doubly if they go after Trump's family. I think this goes one of two ways, now - no power of and in play:
1) Trump tells them to straighten up and fly right, a few key people are quietly fired, and it's over.
2) Barr and Trump decide to punish some of the evildoers and all hell breaks loose.

If they go with #2 (and I really hope they do), then the Left is going to enter into caged animal territory and it's going to get ugly quick. They're gonna go after Trump's family, Barr's family, any associate, etc. with constant press smearing, lawfare and irrelevant/illegal prosecution. If Trump and Barr decide to pursue this, it's going to mean full-on war.

How soon for the liver?

And I don't think they could fit the part about the liver in.

Plus these days, the CW world is more leftie than you want to believe.

They're leaning more and more to Pop attitudes and Presentation. Think Miley Cyrus with a cowboy shirt and skirt but with a whip.

It's terrible.

I know I whine to myself about my problems and then remind myself that lots of people have it worse.

And yes you're close to the bottom but I bet there's someone worse off plus a smiling attitude goes a long way. It's especially appreciated by Health care folks cause they get a lot of tears and pain and most of it real and then there's the whiners which they have zero respect for so they get the minimum assistance.

I try to jolly the people who are trying to keep me alive and give them a smile for the day so maybe they'll go a little bit further. Plus it helps ME feel good.

You do and done good Slap. I hope and pray you will find a way to stick around for a long time but if not know that you've been a good example and the source of amusement.

Another good Art Bell (Fart Smell, as skeptics affectionately called him) moment was the guy who claimed to be calling from a small airplane flying right into Area 51 airspace.

That one is on YouTube, I think.

I think someone did a detailed audio analysis of the tape and concluded it was fake. There were faint background sounds that you wouldn't hear in a real airborne airplane or something.

Well, it's not broken now, and I have not updated it in a long time. I will not get Win10. And I am pretty darn certain my leaders will not be porting their striplog software over to Win10; they let the program's author go, as an austerity measure. I asked them about having a go at making a version to run under Linux, and they basically told me to have at it. The software is now available for free on their website. but not the source code AFAIK.

If I knew anyone who had skills at writing code for a Linux environment, I would ask them to have a look at the Windows version of the software, and estimate what it might cost to build it for Linux. Basically, it's a graphic chart, upon which text boxes can be laid. Here is a screenshot of a commercial striplog:

A drowd. (don't know why it was called that.)

It was a way for people to zone out without drugs. They'd pay people to come in and clean them up now and then.

It's because life was so easy it got so boring. And for some reason virtual reality wasn't part of Niven's world.

I think VR will be the great time waster. Once the robots start taking over all the mundane jobs and factories are run by one person and a computer and people enter in codes for stuff they want and it's delivered to their door we'll see folks either become outrageous risk takers or sink into a morass of induced pleasure.

And more bleaker outcome than Iain Banks' Culture.

A virtual machine would indeed do the trick, as long as the program doesn't depend on any special hardware and drivers.

And even there, there may be a solution. I forget what it's called but Intel and AMD are putting more hardware virtualization features in the CPUs and one of them, basically I/O redirection in the same fashion as the memory redirection can allow virtual machines to have access to hardware directly when given.

You know if you had a sinkhole on your land, say a hundred feet deep, and it linked up to an underground river, which often exist in sinkhole country, you could lower an object on a line, and it would be carried along by the current, giving the impression that the sinkhole was indeed "miles deep".

I asked the original developer if I could run it under WINE, and he said he had tried it, but was not real happy with the way it ran. But that was a few years ago now, and there are newer and better Linuxii out there, and better hardware, too.

I guess what's keeping me from doing it right now is lack of motivation. I don't need to run the striplog if I don't have work, for one. And the Windoze version will continue to work for the foreseeable future, even if MS ceases support of Win7.

If I get word that I will be put on a series of wells, then I might be more motivated to fire up a Linux machine here, and get WINE or a virtual machine running, and try it out.

That format is more or less standard, as developed by Amstrat/Canstrat. Originally, I was trained to make the logs on frosted Mylar with Rapidograph pens. That worked when 3 meters an hour was "making good hole". Lucky me, electronic striplogs were available when I first began doing it for real. Of course, you now have a log in horizontal format for horizontal wells. And that brings up a beef I have with the builder of our current log set. The vertical log, also used for the build section of a horizontal well, has a two or three page header that must be populated with data, mostly hand-typed in. The horizontal well has a similar header, with mostly the exact same data, plus new data. And they never provided an "import header data from build section log" command. Huge time saver, if there were.

If you are interested, I could print off a page of striplog, and annotate to indicate which each track represents. Typically, the "linear" track on the left has traces for drilling rate, gas detector reading, and most often these days, API natural gamma ray reading from a sensor located in the tools above the bit. Typically, engineering annotations go in that track as text boxes. Then you have a narrow depth track which just shows hole depth, but a few symbols get placed here, too. Then your graphic lithology track, which displays rock type with patterns and colors, plus accessory symbols. And you will have graphical tracks for porosity and grain size, grain roundness and sorting, oil shows, etc. Than a fairly broad track for written rock descriptions, which tend to summarize intervals of fairly uniform lithology. about it

That one was told on Art shows, and it's out there on the internet.

As it goes, Nixon and Jackie were buddies, and Nixon said, Jackie, Ima gonna show you something that will blow your mind. And Nixon took him to the base where they kept the bodies and showed him.

That could be the subject of one hell of a comedy skit.

One of law prof Jonathan Turley's claims to fame is that he forced the govt. to admit that Area 51 actually existed. Well, the base there.

It had nothing to do with any alien conspiracy stuff, but was some lawsuit by former workers there who claimed they were exposed to all sort of nasty chemicals and stuff and caused health problems.

It was some bullshit where the govt wouldn't release the records. Well, that doesn't exist, so there are no records.

Turley came up with some Catch-22 based on environmental law where the govt. had to admit it existed in order to exempt from said laws. That happened during the Clinton admin.

Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at April 20, 2019 12:42 AM (xSo9G)

Well, we try to make it real-time. The linear track stuff, drill rate, gas, and gamma, can be made real-time, but there is little incentive to do so, since the client has his own viewer for the computerized rig monitor system, and that data is presented, if not created, there.

I look at the rock cuttings, which take from a very few minutes to an hour or more to be pumped up from where the bit is turning. Then they get washed, bagged, and brought to me where they join the queue to be further washed, sieved, dried, and examined under the microscope. And then I hand-print descriptions on a pad, and when I get a few pages down, I sit down at the computer, and summarize descriptions, and enter them into the striplog.

The washed and dried drill cuttings bear an astonishing resemblance to kitty litter, and indeed, if they are shale, they make perfectly good kitty litter, Or floor-dri. I have been known to save the excess, and use it as such.

Yes, there was some spots around Area 51 that weren't restricted and people could get too good a view of things. It wasn't a problem before until all the publicity which made it get a lot of attention.

It's dangerous out there in the desert and if you don't know what you're doing, you'll wind up dead. But with all the attention, they had unofficial tour guides who would take people as close as you could get.

526 Alabama Cops Raided Their House, Seized Their Cash, and Ruined Their Lives Over $50 of Marijuana

I used to play a lot of poker. Bigger stakes - $40-$80 hold 'em and $2000 buy 20-10 no limit. A normal day was up or down $4k. The really loose players could win $10k or $20k on a hot streak (in no limit). All legal in CA where I live.

It was common knowledge around the table you did not want the cops notice you over after a good day at the tables. Because they would rob you. What else do you call it when someone takes your money at gunpoint and refuses to give it back? They don't need to find any drugs, either - you're assumed to be a drug dealer if you have a lot of cash. The exact amount that would trigger a seizure seemed to vary by jurisdiction, but the consensus was $30k or so.

Growing up in a '60s/'70s, San Diego & Orange County and back to San Diego dirt bike, surf-world, high-school and summertime world.

I'd write the stories, but no one would believe them.

That I'm alive to type 'em... no one would believe that, either, that knew me back then.

I will one day write one of the stories. But I'll have to walk a trail on the very edge of an eighty foot cliff.

That we as kids rode on pre BMX Schwinn Stingrays, painted flat-black, with nothing but front-wheel powered "block-light" generator powered headlights.

At about 11 pm.

On pea-soup smitten, blackout nights.

Crawling down those trails, burning up the "coaster-brake" rear hubs, those lights glowed less brightly than a lit cigarette, not in mid-drawn by the smoker.

Oh, and we were clad head to toe, in black or navy blue apparel, too.

Better to dodge and evade any pursuit that way.

Dodge and evade, we did, too.

But that's a whole 'nuther story.

571 Greetings to the 3 or 4 stragglers still reading this here thread...

Just some rambling thoughts, I'm sure not original...

So Trump, of course, knew from the beginning that there was no collusion between his campaign and Russia.

Mueller and his team knew, if not from the outset then very early in the investigation that there was no collusion.

And yet they persisted. As did the Dems in both houses, as did the media.

Hounding an innocent man, trying to entrap him and his family and associates. Bringing the whole weight of the justice department, intelligence community, and congress to railroad a political opponent; not caring one whit about the damage done not only to Trump & co., but also to the Nation.

There's a word for that. What is it?

Oh yeah.

Injustice.

Every day for two years an injustice was being perpetrated against the President and the American people.

It is not obstruction of justice to oppose and try to end an injustice.

It is obstruction of injustice.

I make this mistake all the time because "is" doesn't sound correct, but it is.

Substitute "Rock-and-Roll", as a genre, and "Rock-and-Roll is great.", makes for a good substitute.

When speaking the sentence, "The Blues is great.", I put a pregnant pause between the genre and the rest of the sentence.

You are speaking of a single genre, so the singular applies.

I often try to avoid such a mogul-filled process, by adding a redundant term, such as...

"The Blues, as a genre, is excellent." -or "Blues Music is excellent." It is an unnecessary work-around, but it works.
