As Insiders Reveal the SPLC's "Hate Map" Is Basically a Marketing Scheme to Drum Up Donations, Conservative Groups Consider Filing Lawsuits Against the Very Non-Impoverished Grifter Outfit

Sue like the wind.

Former SPLC employee Bob Moser described "the annual hate-group list" as "a valuable resource for journalists and a masterstroke of Deesís marketing talents; every year, when the center publishes it, mainstream outlets write about the 'rising tide of hate' discovered by the S.P.L.C.ís researchers, and reporters frequently refer to the list when they write about the groups." According to The Progressive's John Egerton, SPLC co-founder Morris Dees "viewed civil-rights work mainly as a marketing tool for bilking gullible Northern liberals."

Current Affairs Editor Nathan J. Robinson slammed the "hate map" as an "outright fraud," a "willful deception designed to scare older liberals into writing checks to the SPLC."

These admissions are not just interesting -- they could also help falsely accused "hate groups" formulate a powerful legal defense against the far-left smear factory.

"If you're admitting that it's done for purposes of fundraising, false, and intended to deceive older liberals, you've basically admitted all the elements of a Lanham Act and a defamation claim," Daniel Schmid, litigation counsel at the falsely accused Christian law firm Liberty Counsel, told PJ Media.

The SPLC has dodged defamation lawsuits by claiming its "hate group" accusations are merely a matter of opinion, protected as free speech under the First Amendment. Yet demonstrably false statements leveled with malicious intent to destroy someone's reputation constitute defamation, and these new admissions bolster a legal case against the smear factory, Schmid argued.

Yeah, that relationship needs to be severed --- especially in light of these revelations.

In fact, the SPLC needs to be severed from all of its Tech company arrangements where they assist in identifying hate groups, fake news, hate speech, etc..

In some senses, yes. President Trump is certainly winning. Yet at the same time, we are losing as a nation. Unprecedented shutdown of conservative media voices continues apace, the mood in our major urban centers is mass hysteria against the rest of the nation, and the enemy mobilization known as "the border crisis" is at intolerable levels.

You were correct in divining President Trump's strategy. The first Horowitz report was part of that strategy... and is now generally treated as full on exoneration of Hillary Clinton.

It may be too late for a peaceful solution.

It's hard to say there's any lasting victory yet. Talking about suing SPLC doesn't end them-actually suing and winning may do that. Same thing with the Covington kids' lawsuits-I'm glad they're being made but until they've won and received their winnings, it's all just feelings.

86 This outfit. I often find myself torn between thinking of Progressives as susceptible to unreasoned group-think vs. lying to my face while parroting Prog talking points.

With the SPLC and it's downstream customers, like Facebook, Google and most (all?) of the Progressive media companies (you know, almost all of them), it's not a tough question.

These lying liars take money and smear good people and institutions as racist, knowing that's not true. And they're good at it. Truly frightening to see that up until, what, a month ago (?) this outfit was universally esteemed by Progressives everywhere as THE final word on hate speech perpetrators.

So much so, that Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Apple and on and on, use SPLC data to ban people, apps, products, speech, etc.

199 Their donors and true believers are easily manipulated because they're ..... stupid. And ignorant.

---------

THIS is the question, isn't it. Stupid? Or malicious? or mass hysteria?

It's a case-by-question, of course, when it comes to individuals. But, as best illustrated in Hollywood, maintaining and advocating for the Narrative isn't just helpful to one's career. It is increasingly the case that it's required for your career.

I'm conservative, and how it effects me in the professional space, is that I don't talk about politics or political issue or make any jokes or other comments that would give away my political persuasion. I do that because I work among Progressives, a big company, and getting political about anything isn't worth losing a job or getting the focus of an internal Lynch mob. I'm lucky, in that I work with professionals, and the Progressives don't bring up their politics either, though they do feel comfortable to say enough that I can figure it out.

But that's me. In the Woke World, you don't get an entry card if you don't bear mace a few Nazi white nationalists on TV...

204 These NoVA traffic references toggle vague ancestral memories of decades spent in the area - but most of it when traffic was unrecognizably less than now.

Still recall a WaPo Metro section story - 1990? - about how a 1970 20-year master plan for NoVA transportation had set out a goal for road mileage, etc. And how by 1990 a total of 11% of the plan had been achieved. Meanwhile, population and traffic were something like double or 75% more than assumed in the plan!

When friends moved to the area, just as I was about to move away, they were shocked when I told them first thing to think about with house hunting was ..... traffic. Funny, next morning their real estate agent said the same thing, and they laughed, and they had to explain why.

226 Oh FFS: California may ban hotels from giving guests tiny bottles of shampoo, conditioner, lotion.

From Insty.

The bill would ban “lodging establishments”, including hotels, motels, resorts, bed and breakfasts, and vacation rentals, from offering small plastic bottles holding 12 ounces or under of product in rooms or public spaces. Instead, the establishments could offer “bulk dispensers” that could be used by a number of people. The goal is to cut down on the amount of plastic containers thrown away by guests and operators.
