Ho Boy: Kellyanne Conway Says Her Husband Should Air His Grievances In Private; Stresses That She's "Italian Catholic" and Very Protective of Her Children

She later cautions about outsiders acting as "marriage experts" opinion on the state of their marriage, but I have a hard time hearing this as something other than "Yeah, George and I have problems, but we're trying to keep up appearances for the sake of the children, and George is making that difficult with his acting up."

An interesting thing, maybe a tell. She says that George agreed to come to DC and joined a law firm as a "partner." Then she corrects herself and says he's "of counsel."

Now, "of counsel" is a designation for someone who's too senior to be an associate but who's not a partner. There are different reasons for being "of counsel" -- like maybe you want to practice law but you don't want to buy into the firm or you don't want to bill the hours a partner is expected to bill -- but it's generally considered, well, not quite at the same level of "partner."

I think it's interesting she corrected herself here, when no one in the world would have batted an eye at calling him a "partner," even if he wasn't that.

It's like... well, a dig. Maybe.

Hard to watch. Cringey! Therefore: Most recommended!

Political voyeurism always feels a bit creepy to me. Relationships in of themselves are often fraught (they have people involved, of course they are.) Having your issues in public has to add another layer.

Normally that would be true. But we have an abnormal media. They would charge her with "lying" about her husband's involvement in whatever it is they are involved in which would, of course, be a crime of the century and shouldn't Trump be impeached for this! We're at the point where a mere voice inflection will be twisted into "collusion du jour". He is not. He has ambiguously maybe implied divorced people could receive communion at the discretion of local priests and bishops. When pressed no elaboration was given afaik. The Catholic Church does not recognize divorce. If you "divorce" and remarry, you're still wedded to your original spouse and living in adultery(you need to repent and abstain from further intercourse with new spouse to be allowed communion).

120 Maybe I'm dumb, but isn't a claim of NPD not just armchair psychiatry, but not supported at all, even if you believe "Trump cray-cray"?

Like... Trump has an obsession with his image and likes being the center of attention, but his focus on "we" alone would mark him as a garden-variety egomaniac of yuge proportions, not NPD. More than one kind of being a little squirrely is characterized by lying, and the NPD characteristic lies (deflection, lies *which don't have to do with the topic at hand*) are nothing like the "Lies of Trump" - i.e. braggadocio.

I think the obsessive character of the defamation and hyper-focused confirmation bias might indicate some schizoid tendencies and dementia on George's part, but what do I know?

You don't even need to buy an annulment these days. Rome localized the process for this and American branches give annulments out like candy. America, despite not being a Catholic country, has a majority of the world's annulments.

An appeal to the oversight group in Rome will almost always get it overturned, but few people know this, or even if they did, would bother.

Lots of reputable firms have two-tier partnerships. You have "equity" (i.e. real) partners and then you have "non-equity" partners, who are employees with a bigger office and assigned parking. This is completely accepted and there's no dishonesty about it.

213 Of counsel has other attributes: no positive equity (share of profits), negative equity (liability for capital calls), limited to particular cases or practice areas, limited coverage under the firm's professional liability policy, limited obligations to firm (expectations of hours billed, as an associate might have), limited to no management input, certain restrictions on how lawyer is advertised.

Think joint venture with limited scope vs. equity partner or shareholder/director.

When a Catholic gets an annulment, they also have to get a civil divorce. In fact, I believe they have to get the divorce before they can get the annulment (IF they can get an annulment).

I think Kennedy's wife contested the annulment on the grounds that he knew full well what he was getting into as far as a sacramental marriage, that could not be dissolved.

No, must be a lawyer. Usually falls into three categories.

1. Old lawyer that stepped down as a partner to make life easier and leave the billing, firm management, etc. to others.

2. Younger lawyer (15+ years experience) that does not go 100% but has some skills that the firm values.

3. Younger lawyer that got passed over for partnership but the Firm keeps around because he/she has some value to the Firm.

I was curious and looked it up.

Annulment has no bearing on the children at all. I am probably explaining it badly, but as long as one parent went into the marriage with honest intentions, the children are still considered legitimate.

It's confusing but no, kids of a marriage that are annulled are NOT illegitimate in the eyes of the Catholic church.

433 229 "Nope. Someone who doesn't have ownership in the firm is not the same as someone who does. That's the very essence of partnership.

"Of Counsel and non-equity partner are essentially interchangeable terms."

The first paragraph is correct, the second one is not.

I'm a "senior counsel" (basically "Of Counsel") at the law firm I just joined last year. At my review last month, the equity partners said they're looking to promote me to "income partner" (i.e. non-equity partner) next year if I stay on track. One difference in the two positions is my ability to bind the firm through my statements & actions. Another difference is profit-sharing. Less important: the difference in titles also assists the firm in marketing me to clients who are more impressed by having a "partner" handling their work.

434 I discharged a young female sailor who was working aloft on the radar mast on a Carrier when they rotated and radiated without warning. She did not live long after we retired her.

435 Not a fan of Kellyanne. She looks like the Faces of Meth, but if Trump likes her, she's a-ok with me.

436 "Why shouldn't HE put his marriage before his political diarrhea on twitter?"

Did you read what you quoted? I specifically said that he's being an ass and should stop. But **given that he's apparently not going to,** it falls to her to deal with him as he is, not as he should be.

Certainly if she's claiming to follow Catholic teaching, there's no "my spouse is being a jerk, so I get to be a jerk back" rule. If a job is hurting your marriage, you look for a way to quit the job ASAP.

437 @433 "of counsel" is not the same as "senior counsel."

It is someone who is not a partner (equity or non-equity) and who is not an associate.
Nowadays, most "partnerships" aren't true partnerships anyway, which may be a reason for the confusion in terms.

440 May be Trump could pump some sense into Kellyanne--in a platonic way of course.

443 339: No. No. No. KellyAnne is NOT behaving badly. And she should not give in to her toad of a husband who actually sounds like he may be in the beginning stages of dementia. I just hope Melania isn't jealous.
