The Saturday Night Joke

Doug Pender lived all his life in the Florida Keys and is on his deathbed and knows
the end is near. His nurse, his wife, his daughter and two sons, are with him.

He asks for two witnesses to be present and a camcorder be in place
to record his last wishes, and when all is ready he begins to speak:

"My son, Bernie, I want you to take the Ocean Reef houses."

"My daughter Sybil, you take the apartments between mile markers 100 and Tavernier."

"My son, Jamie, I want you to take the offices over in the Marathon Government Center."

"Sarah, my dear wife, please take all the residential buildings on the bay side on Blackwater Sound."

The nurse and witnesses are blown away as they did not realize his extensive holdings, and as
Doug slips away, the nurse says,

"Mrs. Pender, your husband must have been such a hard-working man to have accumulated all this property."

The wife replies, "The asshole had a paper route!"

Don't you have to have a job to take paternity leave?

This just in: Prince Harry is preparing to drop everything when Baby Sussex arrives.

In a recent interview with Us Weekly, Dickie Arbiter—Queen Elizabeth’s former press spokesman—revealed that he has no doubt the 34-year-old prince will take paternity leave when his wife, Meghan Markle, gives birth.

“It’s a modern thing,” he said. “Prince William did it for his children and Harry’s going to do it for his, when his child is born. I mean, the older generation didn’t do it. The older generation just got on with it. But it’s a new thing. People do it, William did it and Harry is going to do it.”

I get excited when I find loose change in the couch cushions. Imagine the excitement these fellows felt!

A pair of men doing cleanup work in Nebraska floodwaters discovered a "magic fridge" in an empty field that was filled with ice-cold beers.

Kyle Simpson and Gayland Stouffer said they were heading back toward the highway after a day of cleanup work on Simpson's land, near Schuyler, when they spotted a black box that had apparently been dropped into the empty field by the flooded Platte River, which had since receded from the field.

The Fight For $15 has produced collateral damage. Just another reason to avoid McDonald's.

The Metro published findings today from an investigation they did on random samplings of U.K. McDonald's touch screens. The article was aptly titled "Poo Found on Every McDonald’s Touchscreen Tested."

Do you remember Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom? There was ‎Marlin Perkins and Jim Fowler. Meet the new Jim without a tranquilizer gun.

This is the terrifying moment a bear mauls a forest officer and chases him into a reservoir during a rescue operation that went wrong.

Forest protection officer, Kumar, had been trying to drive the bear away from Velugodu Reservoir in Andhra Pradesh, India, and take it to the forest.

Kumar and other officers had cornered the bear and were trying to tie it up with ropes when it broke free and began its attack.

38 So, Rachel Maddow was crying last night about the Mueller report: here's what I don't get-

Did she think Mueller was going pin some BS charge on Trump? I would understand disappointment, but tears? The crying only makes sense if she really believes Trump was colluding with Russia.

If someone actually believes that, they gotta be seriously stupid or detached from the news. She ain't detached from the news, so in conclusion, Rachel Maddow is exceptionally stupid. What am I missing?

I do think that they are required to do a lot of public appearances. I don't know how much of their time is taken up with it. I doubt if it amounts to 40 hours per week. They get dressed up, go somewhere, and make nice with the little people.

When I was in London, I stayed at a hotel near Hyde Park. A parade of military people on horseback was going down the street and there were a lot of people meeting in the park. Someone told me that a nurses' group was having an event there and one or more members of the royal family would attend. From what I was told, pretty much every important event gets a member of the royal family.

169 I haven't seen a McRib in well over a decade. They only do them once in a while and I guess I don't go there enough. The Mcdlt was the bomb back in the day and you Millenials will NEVER have one lol! And the fried cherry pies were great too. The best way to get someone to appreciate something is take it away.

176 I do think that they are required to do a lot of public appearances.

So looking back at it, the map said "uniquely searched pies". Now I am not an internet rocket surgeon, but I think what they were showing is what pie each state searched for online that stood out from the average search. That is a far cry from which pie is most popular in that state. I figured something was wrong when Apple Pie was listed only once (I think). Anyway, it is cool the way they did it, it made it more interesting, not less.

The truth is fecal matter is found on everything. It's in the air. How? Well, the world is the bathroom for all the animals out there. Insects, birds, etc.

There was some recent study looking at the composition of the shit found in air samples, and in urban areas, the biggest component was dog shit. Not a majority, but a plurality, IIRC.

If you need a McRib fix, and McD's ain't got 'em on the menu, I recommend checking your grocery store's frozen section for On-Cor frozen family dinners. Well, she will sleep through someone passing by now, but if there is faintest hint of something edible in the air, and she is instantly awake.

My conclusion? A dog's nose never sleeps.

446 TL, DR: Keep a budget. Plan ahead. Make money.

The long form:

Last Sunday, St Patty's the 17th, was the 23rd anniversary of the day I first put up a web page as Mindful Webworks (whence my silly nic).

Originally mindful.sprynet.com - ancient history. The domain name purchase came later.

As some folks understand, to "compete," you can't just get "mindfulwebworks.com" - you have to cover all the bases, or at least the major ones, dots com, org, and net. That's about all there were besides things like .gov when I bought rented my domains. Plus, the hyphenated form, mindful-webworks com org and net. (Like anybody else would ever want to steal or spoof a stupid name like that, but yeah.)

Apparently, a decade ago, in a moment of fatness and forethought, I set up and paid for the domains to renew automatically every ten years. I'd forgotten I'd done that.

A decade blows by like a hurricane.

So today, when we're in a moment of leanness and lackathought, the bill comes in for multiple domains times ten years each. (Funny how time flies when you're not keeping track.) $YOW! The card account was already on life support.

I tried renewing but the web host said I couldn't. I called Help for help, but "William's" main advice was to LET GO of my domains, and try to renew them on another card. "You have five days. GO!" And some other things neither Milady nor I comprehended. He SEEMED to be a native English speaker, but was infected with geekspeek.

Well, turns out, my attempted online renewal charge (1 year, not 10) on the main two com domains went through after all, so MW is still alive, for a while. Searching behind the couch cushions to see about renewing the others.

Sure makes me think about what I'm doing. Approaching a quarter century of practically no feedback (logprof notwithstanding) and utterly no $upport (virgin PayPal buttons all over the site) after 23 years and twelve hundred webworks, why even bother keeping up with the domains.

If only that were the worst of our concerns!

Here, an old webwork to make up for my whining:

Yes.

Have one, run thousands of rounds through it and the only hiccup was a factory reload that had the side of the case torn off that I didn't notice when loading the magazine.

It's my carry weapon and I run it in IDPA matches on a regular basis. I don't clean before the match, because the gun has to run after being in the holster for a while and the best time to find out if there's an issue is during a match and not when I actually need the gun. Hasn't failed yet.

Have an S ampersand W Model 66-2, produced in the early 90s, third owner but first two didn't shoot it much, it's getting pretty nice.

I've tried some of the tricked-out triggers on guns at matches - revolvers, CZs. They are unbelievably lighter and better than all of mine. Meh. I'd like to become proficient enough that I shoot satisfactorily with stock triggers.

522 Think I figured out why I shot so poorly in last Sunday's action rifle match (M1). At duty day at the range this week, put 100 rounds through it. Front sight was left of center; had consistent hits to the right. Also, elevation aperture has some issue, it would be down 6 clicks from initial/proper setting after a clip or two. Not sure I've fixed that yet. Together the two problems probably help explain the appalling performance. Rest of the explanation would be me, not settling, rushing shots. And I wasn't adjusting based on observed impacts quickly enough - thought my sights were dependable.

Love the boom of the M1. Stands out from almost every other kind of music at the range.

I once owned a 1st Generation Styer M-9, pre A1.

It was by and far away, the finest 9mm pistol I've ever fired. Once you got used to the trapezoidal sights, that is.

Wicked accurate. VERY soft-shooting, due to the lowest bore axis going. Ergonomics, especially the grip shape and angle, approach perfection.

It's everything that Glock had imagined, but never achieved.

If I can find another pre-A1, I'll try to buy it. I'll likely revert the sights to "conventional", but the pistol is a winner, in every respect.

Buy every magazine you can afford for it though. They're not exactly "common" out there, y'know.

It is a land to be conquered, de-populated in the manner of Old Testament Thou Shalts, all the way down to the goats, and then re-populated with a better people.

Where militarism fails in Afghanistan, is in thinking that such a tribal folk can be conquered and ruled, much less civilized and improved.

It's not "genocide". It's "tribalism-cide". They look similar, but are actually quite different.

Question is then, with whom to repopulate the newly vacated lands?

In '12, I put in a Cylinder and Slide Tactical Match 4.5 trigger pull set: hammer, sear, disconnector, sear spring, mainspring. Also put in a new trigger: 3 hole V Match long aluminum. Pistol is a Colt Series 80.

Had to do this as the sear notch in the hammer broke off. I was very lucky that is happened with only 2 rds left in the mag.

Very, very happy with the setup. Only fitting activity was a minor tension adjustment to the sear spring.

Back then, both items ran $114. Now, it's $140. Recommended.

Medina first, as a warning.

Save Mecca to reside under the Sword of Damocles, as the ongoing threat.

Never take an action that leaves no further threat to proffer, as then your opponent has nothing left to lose.

Unless utter and immediate annihilation is your goal, at which point get giggity with taking out most all of the muzzies on the planet.

Point is, know your enemy.

Want to break most all of Islam? Take out about 50% of their "holy sites".

And then challenge their Imams to provide an answer to how Allah bears this happen, to their flocks.

Take out another 10% the following year, with the same challenge.

Simply demonstrate the powerlessness of Islam, on a more than one time basis.

Kick the legs out from under their wobbly stool.

No need to slaughter millions.

Just destroy the foundations of their so-called "faith".

Frankly?

Most of 'em want a reason to escape the restrictions, and become 1st world wannabees, anyway.

Let's help 'em in that direction, shall we?

I will hold your hand every step of the way there. Reach out.

Don't believe in that Big Old Bearded White Guy on the Big Throne of Bones who had the Big Book of Santa's Watching YOU, and if you ever sin, you will writhe in agony for all eternity. Well, actually, believe in this if you're at the stage where this is helpful to your personal spiritual development, but if you can get a bit smarter, you can understand...

God loves. God forgives. God corrects, sternly, but mercifully.

The use of facts is best left to helping understand the consequences of policies and others' subsequent reactions to them.

If the the bushies weren't going to drag that info out and rub the worlds' noses in it PDT style, then what mattered wasn't what was true; what mattered was what the moonbats were willing to push for their own gain.

713 Tried the Chinese restaurant in our neighborhood tonight. We moved here a couple of months ago but hadn't got around to it. Oh, man. REAL Chinese, like, photos of the owners with Deng Xioping and all that jazz, and banners of appreciation from Air China for their local support, etc. The food was....exquisite. They have a Chinese menu and an Americanized menu. We ordered off both. The hot and sour soup was the best I've ever had. Walked out of there sweating like a pig.

Who knew? Right here on Government Hill. Yum.
