22 So, Publius usually doesn't get up until some time in the afternoon, because his RA is worst in the a.m. Which means he's a night owl (as am I, happily). But it's gotten out of hand with me, because I end up staying awake until noon and getting up at 9 pm.
Yesterday I decided to stay up all day to reorient myself, because I don't do much useful at night and I have seedlings to repot. Now I'm up and enjoying coffee and waiting for the sunrise. It's supposed to be sunny all week and I have yard work to do.

42 Kramer obtained the dossier in late November 2016 after visiting Steele in London. Steele acknowledged that Kramer and McCain were picked as conduits to pass the dossier to then-FBI Director James Comey. McCain met with Comey on Dec. 9, 2016 and provided all of the dossiers memos that had been written up to that point.

In the fall of 2016 just before the presidential election, then FBI Director James Comey informed Republican candidate Donald Trump they had received "materials" alleging salacious misconduct by the business man.

So Comey let McShitty into his office knowing that the false piece would be now leaked.

So who is the bigger traitor????

44 McCain met with Comey on Dec. 9, 2016 and provided all of the dossiers memos that had been written up to that point.

And even that was staged, since they'd already been investigating Trump for at least six months. McCain was just play-acting to justify an investigation against the President-Elect.

Fuck your dead daddy, Megs.

McCain involvement in the dossier was to give it gravitas and to further provide the hook to leak to the press, the FBI already had and were already using it to get FISA warrants.

47 Reading continued follow up on the university scam/scammers, and how exhausting and expensive the tutoring and test prep is.
Back in the early 70s, we didn't even study for the SATs and achievement tests. Isn't it supposed to be a reflection of your aptitude/what you've learned, and not some phony measurement of cramming? The only "prep" we got was in English class, where they gave examples of the kind of questions we would be asked ("A is to B as C is to D" etc).
My dear departed hubby got a perfect score of 1600 - and that was back in 1971, when it was a lot harder than it is now. I was proud of my 1400, but he totally outclassed me.

Since I was smart and did my homework and enjoyed learning, I did very well. My parents were middle class and had no money for bribes and the like, anyway. I feel sorry for kids who can't say they made it into a top tier school on their own merit. Not that college is what it used to be, anyway.
If I had a kid, especially a boy, I'd push for trade school and duck the indoctrination. Or send them to places like Hillsdale.

BBC consistently disparages Trump and supports Russia collusion theory.

I believe they are doing some major widening closer to Richmond now. Basically widening everything from Norfolk to Richmond in a rolling westward movement.

The year before I retired, I drove Newport News-Baltimore-Newport News approximately 51 consecutive weekends. Learned every back road and shortcut possible along the entire length the trip.

Now, starting from Oceana, it's just a more relaxing, but slightly longer trip to go up the shore, and come back over at Annapolis at the Bay Bridge.

105 I am convinced that the Bushes were never really conservative, but a different type of politician that grafted into the Republican Party because it served them better. Their policies are shared almost entirely by the Never Trumpers, and many of the Republicans from the Bush era such as Romney and McCain.

If one looks at their policies they favor high taxes (remember "read my lips"?), big government, and are undoubtably globalists. This last part, I think, is the most identifiable quality, and makes them bed-fellows with the progressives.

For any military history buffs out there; WTF happened to David
Hackworth? Learning about him and he went from hardcore to - seemingly -
some dopey hippy, did the war just absolutely ruin him?

Posted by: thathalfrican - GOOD at March 17, 2019 07:17 AM (IYHxL)

I can't answer that. There have always been decorated vets who went on to push differing views. The Dems have had some well known Marines at the Senate level such as John Glenn, Chuck Robb, and Jim Webb.
Vietnam is not my historical area of expertise so I don't want to critique this guy's views without a lot more research, particularly such a decorated hero as Hackworth. But I can give you one insight, and this is from personal knowledge not just theory or reading. For every Hackworth or other "famous" combat hero, there are many others just as heroic, who moved on with their lives and didn't live off that one period in following years.. They certainly did not look for media attention.

Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain was a Civil War hero. He received the Congressional Medal of Honor and was a gallant fighter. But Chamberlain is famous mainly because he lived so long, got into politics, and kept telling his story for decades after war. I am not taking a thing from his heroism here but there were many who served alongside him, and did as much or more. But these men are ignored by popular history because they died in combat or moved on to other things.

Whenever I hear the name Robert Francis O'Rourke it reminds me of Paddy O'Rourke of the 140th New York. He was certainly as valiant as Chamberlain but is not nearly as well known by the populace. This seems like a good day to mention him.

The Republican party has been a corporatist and business interest party since it was the wig party.

The incorporation of conservatism, mainly of the social variety was a fairly recent phenomenon starting in the late 60's and solidifying in the mid-90's.
But this was simply grated on and was only for the purposes of gaining power to further other corporitist and business interests.
The GOP has delivered nothing resembling conservatism in any sphere or facet.
Social Conservatism? Fiscal Conservatism? Economic Conservatism?
They have delivered nothing and are fighting tooth and nail to thwart the most temperamentally and programmatically conservative President this country has ever elected.
The Republican Party is an illegitimate poltical party as properly understood.
It cannot be changed from within or without and must be replaced, as they replaced the Whigs, so too must the GOP be replaced.

hops are essential to good beer, there is no doubt there. And there are many popular varieties that really on a strong hop presence. But to too many these days, pouring on the hops equals quality. It reminds me of a Three's Company episode where the restaurant owner believed it was impossible to have too much pepper in his pasta.

One comment from Faber ... that in the early 70s the stock market was like 20% of GDP, and now it is like 150% ... including the bond market it is 300%. i.e. the rich have gotten much richer ... and TARP was to save the rich ... so the "next time" it will be even worse.

But he covers the "reset" a little, and that effective lying is now the way to get ahead, and that government is controlled by big money ... run like a mafiosi. many good pieces to the puzzle are presented.

I agree but doubt it will happen.

After four years of demonstrated incompetence and corruption, Obama got re-elected.

Virtually the entire Republican Establishment has openly sand-bagged President Trump at every turn, yet after two years of Trump trying manfully to fulfill campaign promises, Pelosi has control of the House.

The level of campaign fraud was incredibly blatant in 2018, and the response from the GOP is a yawn, sadly reminiscent of Sleepy Jeff.

Your vote might be counted (if you're lucky), but Hector, Mohammed, and Juan will each cast enough validated votes so that you're still outnumbered by a factor of at least 2 to 1.

_______________

Yeah, and McCain cast that Obamacare vote after he had campaigned in AZ for re-election with t.v. commercials and campaign literature that promised AZ voters: "I'll be leading the fight against Obamacare."

McCain cast the vote to save Obamacare for purely petty reasons. Because that's the kind of politician he was. Same reason he was pimping that stupid Steele dossier. He didn't give a hot damn about the best interests of his AZ constituents, or the promises he had made to them, just like he didn't give a hot damn about the best interests of the nation as a whole. It was all about settling his own petty scores.

Same way here in the Houston area back in the 1970s. Actually, I like Coors, and once they started selling it down here, that is all I've consumed since. Mainly I prefer the Coors because it does not have the heavy bitter taste of the other popular beers of that time (Bud, Schlitz, Lone Star and the like).

I'm not a beer snob and do not even know what "IPA" is supposed to mean. And at this late stage of my life, I don't really care.
