The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

There really isn’t a dull moment in Venezuela; ..... I’ve also mentioned in the past how we can’t say “Well it can’t get any worse” because it can, and it will—turns out that it happened: it got worse. Kaleb

Quote II

“The Chicago Department of Public Health is supportive and encouraging of composting when done the right way. CDPH is also committed to holding bad actors accountable,” Anel Ruiz, spokesperson for the Department of Public Health

Quote III

“What happens in the Arctic does not stay in the Arctic,” “We have the science. Now more urgent climate action is needed to steer away from tipping points that could be even worse for our planet than we first thought.” said Joyce Msuya, the acting executive director of UN Environment.

Quote IV

“There was always the assumption that there was command and control in the mob families, like our American corporations. But I don’t think that applies as much anymore. Today the business units are more fluid. The cells are smaller. There is not that loyalty to the boss and the underboss that there used to be.”

“You know the gig economy? Well, we’ve got a gig Mafia now.” David Shapiro, a distinguished lecturer at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice and former FBI agent

Quote V

Being a state trooper is a dangerous and demanding job for all the reasons you’d expect: apprehending criminals, encountering volatile individuals, rushing toward emergencies rather than away. And now there is a new threat that we’re seeing up close: the risk of exposure to powerful drugs that can kill in even tiny amounts. This is so troubling and disconcerting, and it places members of law enforcement at unnecessary risk of possibly losing their lives.

We are incredibly lucky and extremely thankful that Sgt. Flansburg is alive and recovering today. Were it not for the immediate availability of Narcan and the quick actions of his fellow troopers and medical personnel, we might be speaking today about the death of a trooper in the line of duty. I’m angry at how close we came, and relieved that the situation was no worse than it was. - Vermont State Police Director Colonel Matthew Birmingham

Quote VI

In a perfect world, this would not haunt O’Rourke forever; we would move on. But the Ice Cream Scoop/Todd Akin/Romney’s Dog/Russia Collusion Hoax Media have bastardized everything, and I refuse to be a second class citizen playing a rigged game under two sets of rules.

So Godspeed, GOP… Troll, baby, troll…John Nolte

Sucks to be them. My heart just goes out to them.

Lori Loughlin and her daughters Olivia Jade and Isabella Giannulli reportedly are living what feels like “a terrible nightmare” in wake of the college admission scam.

“They [the 54-year-old actress, Jade and Giannulli] can’t come out and face the world,” a source shared with E! News Friday. “They are in seclusion and alone with the exception of their lawyers.”

Instead of asking someone on Twitter if they were retarded I should have tweeted about pedophilia and gotten a job at Disney.

Hollywood hypocrisy has struck again after entertainment giant Disney reversed itself and re-hired director James Gunn who had previously been fired over a series of tweets that some would say showed that he had a bizarre fascination with pedophilia.

The director of the Marvel Comics franchise “Guardians Of The Galaxy” franchise’s “old” tweets came to light last year, driving him to go on a deleting spree as well as to issue an apology for how he used the now ubiquitous microblogging platform prior to Trump’s election.

The UK has the National Health Service (NHS) so of course their government has an interest in the outcome of its patients. Now the UK is getting involved in the organ donation business (And I'm not talking about Hammond B3s either). 'All Adults Automatically Organ Donors Unless They Opt Out in New English Law'

The Organ Donation (Deemed Consent) Bill received Royal Assent on Friday, meaning that from 2020 all of England’s adult residents of sound mind will be presumed to have “consented” to having their organs donated after death unless they have specified otherwise.
The law, similar to that adopted in Wales in 2015, “will mean adults in England will be considered potential donors unless they chose to opt out or are excluded,” according to a Government statement.

Excluded are those who have not lived in England for at least one year before their death, those who “lack the mental capacity to understand the changes for a significant period before their death,” and children under the age of 18.

Why exclude children under 18 young vibrant organs are the best, amirite?

Those of who are say 29 like to say, "Back in my day........" Well back in my day I liked cars, and driving, and girls and all the things one does with a car and a girl. Now, the youngsters don't care for cars and driving, but on the bright side, people will have sex in self-driving cars.

Imagine hitting the road in 2025 for a trip to see grandma then along the way an autonomous vehicle passes with a couple going at it inside—in the driver's seat.

People who try that today will likely die in a fiery crash before they reach that magical orgasmic moment. Eight to ten years from now it might not be an issue, scientists say, because the car or truck carrying the happy humpers will keep humming along safely to its destination. After all, self-driving vehicles are—to use the cliche—the wave of the future.

Whale watching and whale hunting are not mutually exclusive.

THE JAPANESE, IT seems, are becoming more interested in watching whales than eating them. Researchers at the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), an animal welfare and conservation organization based in Massachusetts, have been tracking the numbers, which they’ve shared exclusively with National Geographic ahead of a global whale watching report they plan to publish next year.

Japan’s whale watching industry emerged during the 1980s but has been gaining momentum in recent years. During the seven-year period ending in 2015, the last year for which IFAW has statistics, the number of whale watchers increased by more than 40,000. IFAW estimates that about two-thirds of the people who take to the sea with binoculars are Japanese nationals rather than foreign visitors.

On this day 18 Mar 1965
The Rolling Stones were each fined £5 ($8.50) for urinating in a public place, following an incident that had taken place at a petrol station after a gig at the ABC Theatre in Romford, Essex, England. This was after the last show on their fifth UK package tour with The Hollies, The Konrads, all girl-group Goldie and the Gingerbreads and Dave Berry and the Cruisers. via thisdayinmusic.com

Died on this day, 18 Mar 2017
Chuck Berry died aged 90. The American guitarist, singer and songwriter was one of the pioneers of rock and roll music. With songs such as 'Maybellene' (1955), 'Roll Over Beethoven' (1956), 'Rock and Roll Music' (1957) and 'Johnny B. Goode' (195, Berry refined and developed rhythm and blues into the major elements that made rock and roll distinctive. via thisdayinmusic.com

It's not quite a jet pack. Flying taxis on the horizon?

Two words for you: flying taxis. That's right. In the not-so-distant future, you'll open your ride-hailing app and, in addition to ground options like car, SUV, scooter or bicycle, you'll see on-demand air flight.

At least that's according to the optimists at South by Southwest, the annual tech-music-film convention in Austin, Texas.

When the flying taxi comes, most of us will be passengers. We might hail it on our smartphones and head to the rooftop, where a ride is waiting at the helipad. It might look like a minivan with wings and four seats; or more like a gigantic drone.

Air travel? As usual my shameless plug for the late great Little Timmy Wilson.

One feature I enjoy about my cell phone, Caller ID. Robo-calls are unstoppable.

1. Why does everyone get so many robo-calls?

Advanced automatic dialing systems make it easier and cheaper for small operations to generate huge numbers of calls. Robo-calling computer programs can dial many phone numbers at once, and play a prerecorded or computer-generated voice message to anyone who answers. A person running a robo-call operation just has to set up the system and let it run. The program will call mobile phones, homes’ landlines, businesses and just about any other number — either randomly, or from massive databases compiled from automated Web searches, leaked databases of personal information and marketing data.

A 4.2 GPA? Only in a government school. But on the other hand, pass the popcorn.

The dozens charged in the scheme already face criminal charges. But several civil lawsuits have also been filed.

An Oakland woman filed a $500-billion class-action lawsuit this week against two Hollywood actresses and dozens of other wealthy parents accused of paying hefty sums to bribe college coaches or doctor exam scores to secure their children’s admission to elite universities.

Jennifer Kay Toy, who previously taught in the Oakland Unified School District, alleges in the lawsuit filed in San Francisco County Superior Court that the actions of those implicated in the scheme prevented her son, Joshua Toy, from being admitted to several colleges ensnared in the scandal.

She wrote in the filing that her son worked hard and graduated from high school with a 4.2 GPA but was still rejected from some of the colleges.

Baseball, America's past time and a contributing factor to Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

TURLOCK — A suspected burglar was beaten with a baseball bat Sunday in Turlock.

The 33-year-old suspect broke into an Emily Street home and left in critical condition.

After the incident, neighbors told FOX40 they are fed up with all the break-ins.

“Commonplace where we do see a lot of people coming into the cars. We’ve been broken into twice,” said neighbor Sheila Barrios.

Investigators say the homeowner was armed with a baseball bat when he awoke, startled, to the stranger in his home. Then a fight unfolded.

No, it's simple. Look at dinosaurs. They're huge. Digestive tract has to be about 40 yards long. When their asshole slams shut after a big fart, it sends a pressure pulse all the way back up their gut to their mouth, and it hammers on their brain. Small concussions, over and over and over again. They get punch-drunk, and then they die.

134 1. Why does everyone get so many robo-calls?

On the old landline of my mom's, I got her a new handset with call blocking. The volume of robo calls is now very low. If the # is a stranger, she allows it to go to voice mail; if no msg left, BLOCK.

Easy peasy. I hear there are apps for smart phones that allow # blocking. Mine is rarely turned on.

One thing the robo calls are ruining is polling -- To get 1000 responses, they have to call 16k+ private #s; it used to be 3k.

170 Yeah, I never could wrap my head around how so-called "educators" could justify a "greater than 4.0" score on a 0 to 4 scale.

If the scoring goes above "4", then a new scale is required and descriptors such as "poor," "average," "above average," etc. must be re-aligned to that new scale.

Every time I have attended a graduation in the past 20 years, this bullshit with announcing final average scores like "4.2" drive me up the f*cking wall and seems a direct contravention to basic educational measurement. In a school of all places!

halfway through boot, send him a box of 64 crayons. the DI will love it.

don't do that! your kid will suffer. wait till graduation from boot then give a custom box of a single "flavor" but have a second box of the original 64 colors as a gift for the DI.

the kid will have an NCO that will remember him/her for life and you kid will also have a 'cool' parent that gets the Marine humor.

Number spoofing is an odd tactic, but one that I have seen used on my cell phone number only.

On the landline, which is enrolled (successfully) in the do not call system, there is no spoofing, but I still do get the occasional call from charity fundraisers, who are apparently exempt from its proscriptions. They still don't get any of my money, however.

The profit robocallers make is low, but the costs to society are high. We punish them on the low profits they make, when we should be punishing them for the high costs they inflict on society.

251 One last comment about Henry Baker and the Citadel, his younger brother was also a Citadel student, but entered the Army during the war, shipped to Europe. 252 Some musings on spam calls:

I've had my personal cell phone number ported through about four different carriers since I got it back in 1998 or so. I almost never get spam calls to it - maybe one a month. The number's right there on my resume, which is public if you know where to look. My work-issued phone gets about four to ten spam calls or texts per DAY. I get significantly more junk calls than legitimate ones; if I went out and got a new number and it started out like that, I'd never carry a damn phone again. I have no idea why one gets so much crap and the other is usable, but I'm grateful it's that way around instead of the other. At least if my work phone rings, I know that whatever it is, I'm not going to like it.

I still use a call screening app on both phones. On the work phone, if it identifies the number as one of the partner utilities, it's probably legitimate. If it's the personal phone and it's a headhunter that I'm expecting a call from, I can answer it if I'm not busy instead of letting it go to voicemail. I ended up using Hiya, which is available for iPhones and Android. The free version (no ads) shows public caller ID info if it's there, checks its user-submitted reports to identify known scammers (if it's in the list), bill collectors, telemarketers, etc. and flags neighbor spoofs and the like. The paid version (about $3/month) does that but also lets you do 200 lookups per month in the telco database, kind of like how landline caller ID used to show just the number while business-class caller ID showed the full name and city. If you know the only people in your area/prefix that you want to talk with are in your contacts list, you can just turn neighbor spoof blocking on with either version and if the number matches but it's not in your contacts, it goes straight to voicemail.

CHANGE: As Stephen Green posted earlier, PJ Media Joins The Townhall Media Family. That doesn't affect InstaPundit directly. Buy a TrackFone or something similar. You buy minutes, so they are about $25 at WalMart and you can buy 200 minutes for $30. They are pretty much a burner phone and you can drop them into a can of paint and not miss them much.

You have to use them once in a while or they get deactivated, but I use one for texting and having a number my dad can reach me at at all times.

And if I get stuck somewhere.

They get that SS money no matter who's putting it in.

They will check when it comes time to GET some out tho.

No. The SS doesn't let you know if there's more than 1 person's name/address attached to your number.

This is because of how it's reported. It's reported by number and not name. They have a name and address but that may or may not be the person who got that number originally.

When enacted the Lawmakers were worried about a 'People Registry' so they didn't make it law that that number was an ID number of any kind.

I'm sure she could in fact show her face in public. It's a pretty technical sort of crime she has allegedly committed. Not murder, not child-raping. But if it's evidence that she feels shame for what she did, she may be able to be made into a good person.

394 Just got done reading the New Zealand shooter's manifesto. And I think that a case can be made that the guy was somewhat "right-wing".

But I think it is a mistake, in my mind, to counter the left's simplistic binary classification of the shooter as "on the right" with "No, he's one of yours."

I think the better point is to see how different ideas *combine* and make more than a binary classification of political views.

The shooter, in addressing objections by "Christians" cites Pope Urban. This covers so little of the ground of "Christian" that it can't help but illustrate how little link this man seems to have had with followers of Christ. He claims that whether or not he is a Christian is "complicated", so given his environmental calamity rhetoric and extinction fears, more so resembles Anders Brevik's "cultural Christianity" as a functional atheist, than it does the wide theological principle of membership in the "Bride of Christ".

The important thing to me is that the manifesto, uneven as it is, is illustrative of the unrelieved cognitive dissonance that leftist atheists leave not fully addressed, and cannot address. So you mix in Evolution and "community survival" and leave somebody convinced of all the environmental calamities, and various calls to "survival" can kick in.

And because the progressive intellectual swamp gives only initiative to "think for yourself" where it allows individual thinking, still, the cyclical calls to "revolution" will continue to happen. All the while being stoked by the Value of Revolution and Rapid Diversion that progressives, in their Special Pleading, encourage.

As a Christian, it is easy for me to resist any part of this call. The writer glances back over his shoulder and throws a pope at me. A single pope. In my entire adulthood, I have not heeded a pope--let alone feel the need to address the quotes of a single pope.

Nephew is a blithering idiot, and he isn't even internally consistent.

1. Trudeau is doing his absolute damndest to prevent any new pipelines from being built, and to wreck Alberta's economy. Fact.

2. If farming is bad for the environment, then being a chef is a crime, too. After all, the food they cook is the result of farming.

3. Electric cars use roads, too, and roads are made out of oil (asphalt), or made from concrete which contains a huge amount of embodied energy from oil or natural gas.

4. Wood is regarded as "renewable" and "carbon-neutral" by the Greentards. Get with the program, Sonny.

"word salad"

People keep on trying to spread the idea that it's "incoherent" or "a mess".

Actually I found the vast majority of the manifesto understandable. I think he makes some valid observations. I just don't have his emotional take on the observation the way he does.

He said he wrote 420 pages and threw most of it away 2 weeks before the shooting. It's probably because he cannot write in a disciplined way. But just because it's not a disciplined work, doesn't mean that other people can't be "inspired" by it further down the road.

Granted. The question is whether a person can be ordered in mind (not sane, but ordered) while at the same time not being ordered in writing.

I would argue the attacks were ordered and hard for a really disordered mind to pull off.

It is possible that the entire thing is a scam to create what he explicitly says in the document. He has not been wrong on how the media, for instance, would use his 'work'. I think this was a dangerous dude, regardless.

I don't see that, myself. The guy takes time to narrow down his viewpoint and the experiences he had to make him want to strike out like this.

I think what people are missing is what a totally-clinical look--and the various takeaways that one can have from it, and a sort of smorgasbord approach to view selection--without a system of coherent values--can lead to.

Absolutely dangerous. But still, the danger of a person living in "survival mode". And no more dangerous than any person in survival mode when judged from the outside with a disagreement of whether survival mode is warranted or not.

The fact is that Darwinism creates a value for the death of "lesser members" however one may define "lesser". Or a thematic interest in the survival of people with genes the most like yours.

But the lack of a continuation of a life is a value in Darwinian, naturalist perspective. And that's a specter that cannot be unsummoned.

If the Vegas shooter had claimed to be a white supremacist, we'd never hear the end of it. The fact that it's completely dropped off the radar --despite being one of the worst mass shootings in American history-- suggests that something about it is inconvenient to the narrative.

Several people on the ground claimed that there were multiple shooters walking through the crowd. That actually makes a lot more sense than one lone guy firing out of a window and racking up such a toll.

Although you can overdo the connection--by a bunch--I also believe that godlessness plays a role in a lot of this fame-by-infamy stuff.

The NZ shooter is almost a clear callback to 1930s Nazism. He doesn't know it, but the German environmentalist were also haunted by the idea of a huge environmental upheaval ... which would reward those who could struggle. What escapes some people is how much Hitler used zeitgeist ideas. The idea of "Kampf" was everywhere in early 20th-century Germany. That spirit was in part fostered by the Nietzsche Society, with the whole "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" ethic of FN.

The thing about these shitbirds is that they are idiots. And lazy. They go after soft targets, mostly innocent people, who are deserving of our empathy. There is a whole host of real evil people out there: politicians, activists, criminals, Commie lawyers, and financiers of left wing activism. The puppet masters, if you will. I'm not going to name names, but we all know some of them. Some of them, but no all, will be hardened targets. If those murdering dillweeds wanted to get their murdering jollies on, they could choose some of those sorts, and whack them discreetly. It would take a while before the Left realized that they were being systematically targeted. And we on the Right, while never actively cheering the killers on, might be inclined to say "karma sucks" or "bastard had it coming", and shed a few crocodile tears.

But by killing innocents, these fuckers waste any good will they might have from those of us who might agree with some aspects of their world view.

But, they illustrate their near-perfect cluelessness by opting for silence whenever they get the chance. It's just bizarre to me how liberals can claim to believe or understand one thing, and completely blow past it in another--and again the power and their winning is the main thing.

Beautifully captured in words, my friend.

Because it is the only refuge of a world too complex to understand. You are either demoralized by it, and commit some form of suicide, or you redouble your efforts to assert yourself, perhaps as a rebel.

God is an audience. God is love and acceptance. He is your coach: get up and do better. He is a companion. He is my abiding principle.

And for ones who were created as I was, he is my hope for a look at the Answer Book.

People used to get rich and build castles or make beautiful sculptures. Those were better days.
------
Content people, those who see good in life, will say "I exist" thru art, literature, beauty and kindness.

Angry people, who have no good purpose, will say "I exist" thru senseless acts of violence.

Content people who get tired of being pushed around by angry people may need to take control for a bit, so the angry power hungry people don't ruin what civilization we've been gifted.

Lot of oversimplification there, but hopefully understandable.

474 ...and I agree with Axeman. This is Occam's Razor territory, where a mostly literate individual makes a stew of ideas because he has no foundation.

He threw together a melange of ideas, but had no idealism beside In-Group Preference.

He spent most of the "manifesto" trolling, but conveying the results he wanted in a coherent manner.

He knew the media. What he didn't know is how those of us on the Right would react to the scrutiny and scorn from the Press. He underestimated us, in what he thought would touch-off a Civil War.

I'm not a huge fan of her music; I think she was only a middling talent, but I seriously believe that she belongs in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

She was pretty much the first woman to front a rock band playing an electric instrument. Later musicians like Chrissie Hynde and Joan Jett named her as an influence. Today lots of women play electric guitar and bass. It's a normal thing now.

But it all started with Suzi. I guess I'm white-knighting for her. Oh well.

not be the person who got that number originally.

When enacted
the Lawmakers were worried about a 'People Registry' so they didn't make
it law that that number was an ID number of any kind.

The only All-Star Game worth a darn is Baseball, as far as I'm concerned. It matches the game and isn't a Hybrid Version to avoid injury, minus the Starting Pitchers.

I'll wait for those movies to come out on Cable and I refuse to pay them a dime as long as Gunn is the Director. --Sad.

521 My only thought on James Gunn is that given the high level of unpersoning going on with Bryon Singer that Disney went balls to the walls to make sure they don't risk their Marvel franchise for someone who has contributed but isn't indispensable.

So he's likely a guy who does edgy stuff which comedy people use to do all the time, but his value balances enough for now. Dollars to donuts however that he's had long talks with Disney about his social media usage in terms of posting. Clearly Disney is down with the liberal messaging but he'll need to watch the stuff that opens him to flak carefully. Wouldn't be shocked if he has a media rep to run things past now as well.

Long story short (too late) I'm a night owl and work 3rd but with my treatments forcing me to be a daywalker- plus the roids- I've been all over the place with sleep, but it means right now I can nap almost any time I want, so that ain't bad.

Unfortunately I've got some physical stuff which necessitates a leave of absence but my work has been great about it and I've never had a job with people I trust more to both help me continue to find a place there to give back and help myself and also trust they'll protect me from trying to bury all my pain and work to compensate, thus hurting me and the job.
Also got signed up at the Gilda House today, hoping to get to the new member meeting on Thur.

Even cooler- Im getting together with a friend I haven't seen or talked to in 21 years for lunch on Thur. My plan to make this my best-worst thing ever is starting off with a blast.

I've made Apple Pancakes two ways. I usually reserve a little milk and add applesauce to the batter.

In the other fashion, I fry the apples (usually a combo of sweet & sour) in butter and add sugar and cinnamon to them before adding them to the pancakes in groupings of four/pancake.

The latter makes a Restaurant-Quality caramel sauce as a Bonus.

I joked given the sheer number of Doctors and other service persons in my room one day (honestly felt like POTUS- nurses would even bring Diet Coke from fridge if asked) that if the secret got all out the Milennials and attention seeking types would suddenly want cancer as well.

Heck I had literal bedroom door to hospital equip valet service. What POTUS since FDR can even claim that?

Not that I'd recommend anyone choosing to take it on either. Even most Tide Pod Challenge types can't be that dumb.

1 Any document that gets called a manifesto
2 A copy of Catcher in the Rye.

Have yet to see any solution in this situations that doesn't return to the answer "Evil and/or bug fuck nuts". Maybe someday I'll be surprised but I doubt this incident will be the one to do it.

Bete, I'd like to think that knowledge can be gleaned from such "manifestos", if for nothing more than Knocking-Down the Media's Narrative.

There is nothing wrong with gaining insight into this guy's writings. He was Half-Troll, Half-Prognosticator.

The guy had Goals and some of them were met by an all-too-predictable Media and Politicians of a Certain Stripe, immediately.

Heck, the 'Unabomber' had a Point-of-View where certain predictions have almost been met.

Prayers up. It took me years with my mental health stuff to finally seek help, and even then rough shod for a bit. The meds I had last week gave me the worst manic I've ever had and it was just rambling and not sleeping.

I'm going to throw out things that worked for me, but skip if you want. I'll chat on the emotional side, I don't want to come across as trying to "fix" cause you can't, nor can I.
Each area is differently run to some extent but NAMI saved my life, and depending on the area they can do as much/more with fam to help support as you go through this.

I work/live peer support. We aren't the system, we've lived it and can talk it. Your area may even have respites to go to for him to process with people who aren't looking to fix, or even explain but humbly to sit with, accompany and hopefully understand a little.

And I can't speak for anyone else, but you do so much for all of us when hurting I will never think of you interrupting or bringing me down. When one of us hurts we all do, but if I can help bring some joy its what I want.

My experience is on the lived rather than fam side but anything I can do right now let me know please. Please do me the honor of helping you if I can.

Idiot leftists. Besides helping prevent a tyranny of the majority, the electoral college actually increase your voting power. I saw an article a few years ago that ran through the math. Well, yeah. DC Statehood would require a Constitutional amendment, too, but that is rolling along, too.

From wiki:

The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC) is an agreement among a group of U.S. states and the District of Columbia to award all their electoral votes to whichever presidential candidate wins the overall popular vote in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The compact is designed to ensure that the candidate who receives the most votes nationwide is elected president, and it would come into effect only when it would guarantee that outcome.[2][3] As of March 2019, it has been adopted by twelve states and the District of Columbia. Together, they have 181 electoral votes, which is 33.6% of the Electoral College and 67.0% of the 270 votes needed to give the compact legal force.

They are most of the way there. Tell me again how it can't happen.

626 >>Well, yeah. DC Statehood would require a Constitutional amendment, too, but that is rolling along, too.

It's been rolling along for decades. Still won't happen.

Sure, there are a bunch of large states that want to inflict their will on the rest but they don't have the numbers to get to 2/3.

A change to the national vote won't expand the area presidential candidates will campaign, it will shrink it to the large urban areas. Liberals are only shrieking about this now because they know they can't win a national election the way things are currently constituted and are actually losing support.

Small states are not going to commit suicide. Not happening.
