The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“My ham-handed attempt to try to highlight the fact that Amy has the lion’s share of the burden in our family — that she actually works but is the primary parent in our family, especially when I served in Congress, especially when I was on the campaign trail — should have also been a moment for me to acknowledge that that is far too often the case, not just in politics, but just in life in general,” Presidential candidate Robert Francis O'Rourke

Quote II

If Beto had an R after his name instead of a D, you’d hear he was boarding-school-attending judge’s son who dodged serious charges for the DUI & burglary, used eminent domain to gentrify poor Latino neighborhoods & married into a billionaire’s family. Jim Geraghty

Quote III

“I explicitly denounced violence. And I criticized the establishment for pandering to Islamic fundamentalism. So Australia banned me again.” Milo Yiannopoulos

St. Patrick's Day Joke

One foine winters evening, the door into Murphy's Irish Bar in South Boston bursts open and a big red-haired Mick walks in. He goes up to the bar and and says "Bartender, O'Shaughnessy’s here for a drink, and when O'Shaughnessy drinks, everybody drinks, and I'll have a Guinness!"

Everyone in the bar cheers and crowds around the bar, ordering whatever they've been drinking.

O'Shaughnessy throws down his Guinness and says "Bartender, O'Shaughnessy's here for a drink, and when O'Shaughnessy drinks, everybody drinks, and I'll have another Guinness!"

Everyone in the bar cheers and crowds around the bar again, ordering whatever they've been drinking and they even go out into the street and invite passersby in for a drink.

O'Shaughnessy throws down his Guinness and says "Bartender, O'Shaughnessy's here for a drink, and when O'Shaughnessy drinks, everybody drinks!"

Everyone in the bar cheers again and crowds around the bar, ordering whatever they've been drinking and they even go out into the street and invite passersby in for a drink, even the cop on the beat comes in for a drink!.

Then, O'Shaughnessy throws down his Guinness and says "Barkeep, when O'Shaughnessy pays, everybody pays!"

Everything you ever wanted to know about St. Patrick's Day and Corned Beef and cabbage dinner but were afraid to ask.

Just wanted to set the record straight on the historical facts. Even worse, his name wasn't Patrick.

He was an England-born slave of Irish raiders. Since England was still Roman in 400, he really was a colonial Roman.

Some moar historical stuff for you.

You had one fucking job to do. Houston drag queen with child assault conviction is hired read to the children.

- Houston Public Library is apologizing after a man charged for sexually assaulting a child was allowed to entertain children at Drag Queen storytime.

The library said Friday that a review revealed the volunteer never completed a background check before he was allowed to participate in the program.

Albert Alfonso Garza, 32, was last seen reading to children at the Montrose Library in September 2018.

Space travel. What could go wrong beside the obvious? How about your herpes reappearing?

The herpes viruses was reactivated in more than half of the crew aboard Space Shuttle and International Space Station (ISS) missions.

"NASA astronauts endure weeks or even months exposed to microgravity and cosmic radiation - not to mention the extreme G forces of take-off and re-entry," said senior author Dr. Satish K. Mehta of KBR Wyle at the Johnson Space Center.

"This physical challenge is compounded by more familiar stressors like social separation, confinement and an altered sleep-wake cycle."

Mehta and colleagues monitor the physiological impact of spaceflight by analyzing saliva, blood and urine samples from the astronauts. What they found was problematic.

Seeking input tonight. Does this story qualify for Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day or Genius Award Winner.

When Indiana homeowner George Hollingsworth noticed some damage Tuesday to the door frame on his garage, he suspected a break-in, the Marion Police Department wrote in a statement.

On Wednesday, Hollingsworth began cleaning out his cluttered garage to determine if anything had been stolen, police reported. That’s when he found the body of a suspected burglar crushed beneath a 900-pound antique floor safe that had apparently toppled onto the stranger, police wrote.

“My mind couldn’t comprehend it,” Hollingsworth said, WXIN reported. “This can’t be real. It’s like some strange tale.”

Police were called to the scene at 8:20 p.m., officers wrote.

Police wrote in their statement that the safe, which had been held up by a floor jack, appeared to have fallen over onto the intruder as he rummaged through the tightly packed garage.

Is it the physical interference with an otherwise natural maturation process, i.e. hormones and surgery? Or before that, perhaps actively encouraging or promoting the belief in the child that it is "misgendered" or whatever the term of madness for today might be?

My advice is to keep your focus on things you'd like to do in the future. Keep your mind focused ahead, on all the fun things you will be doing! What you really enjoy doing or dreamed of doing is probably pretty sharp in your mind right now, so focus on how much fun it will be to do it, and then.. you know... go do it! But just keep projecting the future.

Every white person commenting regarding the terrorist attack in New Zealand should have simply did what every Muslim and every Leftist does after every Islamic terrorist attack: claim victimhood and cry about "Islamophobia" being worse than terrorism.

After every Islamic terrorist attack, it never fails that the Left immediately rushes to get out the message to not blame all Muslims and that people should be wary of any backlash against Muslims and be mindful of "Islamophobia".

So I guess in this case, the message should have been... do not blame all white people and be wary of any backlash against white people and be mindful of racism against white people.

I don't watch mass media or read Leftist blogs, but I am sure that was the message they were putting out after the terrorist attack, right?

The black is my least favorite, although by no means unpleasant, because it's the most coarse and crunchy and not great for finishing a dish. Not that I'm a huge salt snob or anything...

147 I've been doing some research on AMC (American Motors, not the movie theater chain) and took a side path regarding George Romney, Mittens' dad. There are some real parallels in the political realm, though not business. In business, George Romney built business instead of raiding and dismantling them.

Politically, though, there are some similarities. As a Republican, George Romney won the governorship of Michigan and seriously grew government and implemented their state income tax. He unsuccessfully ran for president, opposed Goldwater and, as chief of HUD, sought to, as near as I can tell from superficial research, forcibly integrate the suburbs (Nixon never signed on for it and it didn't happen) - including getting booed out of Warren, MI and forced to retreat under police protection.

They are opposites in the business realm, but seem to be politically copacetic.

The left is clamoring for "common senses gun laws", i.e. gun confiscation, because of the all of the mass shootings. The real reason most of these shootings happened though is due to gross negligence by government employees who are collecting a paycheck from the tax payers. Similar to the blown background check by the perv mentioned above.
Don't forget that the Parkland shooter was found guilty of cruelty to animals(double digit counts against him), skipped out on his community service sentence (this is usually automatic jail time in most states). There were multiple reports to the local authorities and the FBI that he was planning to kill people, but these tips were ignored.

The issue that we should be discussing is not gun control; it should be the gross negligence of government agencies; the derelict of duty of government employees. The unionization of these agencies that circumvent their objective.

163 101- I've been doing the opposite for the same reason, I've been reaching out to old friends I haven't talked to in years- 20 something of them in some cases. Both to to tell them the needs but also to say that when the moment hit me rather than drown in self pity (let's not pretend those nights will come) what came to me was all the treasures they provided me which were there when I was in my hours of need.
I know I'm sharing sorrow but I want it to be like a New Orleans style thing where the joy of life is celebrated just as hard and their roll as lights are acknowledged, and I shape to get together with each of them in 2069 as we celebrate then as well.
Now's the time to live and that is my goal.

Finally the guy stands up and he looks at the guide and he says, "The drums have to stop, please tell me how I can make them stop". The guide mutter and shakes his head, "No, bwana, drums stop very very bad". The gent cries "Why?"
the guide shudders and says, "Bass solo."

275 Paddy had been drinking at his local pub all day and most of the night, celebrating St Patrick's Day.

Mick, the bartender says, 'You'll not be drinking anymore tonight, Paddy'.

Paddy replies, 'OK Mick, I'll be on my way then'. Paddy spins around on his stool and steps off. He falls flat on his face.

'Darn' he says and pulls himself up by the stool and dusts himself off. He takes a step towards the door and falls flat on his face, 'oh bloody me!'

He looks to the doorway and thinks to himself that if he can just get to the door and some fresh air he'll be fine.

He belly crawls to the door and shimmies up to the door frame. He sticks his head outside and takes a deep breath of fresh air, feels much better and takes a step out onto the sidewalk and falls flat on his face.

'Bi' Jesus... I'm in bloody trouble,' he says.

He can see his house just a few doors down, and crawls to the door, hauls himself up the door frame, opens the door and shimmies inside.

He takes a look up the stairs and says 'No bloody way....'

He crawls up the stairs to his bedroom door and says 'I can make it to the bed'. He takes a step into the room and falls flat on his face. He says 'darn it' and crawls into bed.

The next morning, his wife, Jess, comes into the room carrying a cup of coffee and says, 'Get up Paddy. Did you have a bit to drink last night ?'

Paddy says, 'I did, Jess. I was bloody stoned . But how did you know?'

'Mick phoned .. . . You left your wheelchair at the pub.'

323 Moron Pro Tip: Use simple regular old-fashioned iodized salt as *often* as possible. You only need about a teaspoon of the element iodine in your entire lifetime - scratch that - your thyroid only needs about a teaspoon of iodine in your entire lifetime - and iodized salt is the least complicated and most accessible source of it.

The thyroid regulates hormones and having those fuck up on you is among the last things you want to happen to your body and mind. Life is tough enough. Other symptoms of iodine deficiency are rare these days (mostly thanks to iodized salt) but ugly. Thyroid deficiencies are, on the other hand, common.

I love the taste of sea salt, pink salt, etc, too. But I keep iodized around and use it whenever possible. And no, potato chips and other type things with salt rarely contain it. Our forefathers didn't iodize table salt because they were bored or being cheeky. Trust me on this.

Assorted revolutionaries across Europe tried the same thing 50-some-odd years later. Not as much luck.

The ChiComs kicked off revolution by suspicion and hatred of Academia. Took a bit of doing, but grabbed hold nicely, eventually.

The Nazis had "Teh Jooos". 'Nuff Said.

The Soviets had "Teh Joos" along with other assorted Kulaks and Horders and Wreckers. The middle class as a whole, basically.

There was always a hook, a thing, and "enemy" to make the people irrational.

409 Astro-Herpes story is actually kind of interesting.

They found 4 of the 8 known forms of the herpes virus - oral, genital, chicken pox, and shingles. But no one actually broke out in sores. The researchers just found the virus in urine and saliva samples. Viral shedding, it's called, when a virus is active and contagious even if no symptoms of a breakout.

They're saying it's because spaceflight causes the release of stress-related hormones that suppress the immune system.

Viral shedding was found to continue for up to 30 days after the astronauts returned to Earth. Yeesh. The lesson is: don't touch an astronaut for a month after touchdown.

Or take lots of Valtrex and get a shingles shot.

Spend some time in his archives, if you will.

And remember.

A Brother sharpens a Brother, as iron upon iron.

Fellowship on what's agreed, rather than argue as to what isn't.

Y'all can do that in a year or so, after you get to know one another.

For now though, he's also a Cookbook Author (Eat What You Like and Die Like a Man), an avid shooter, machinist, rancher and caretaker of his senile and dying father.

He's out of breath at the "heavy breathing" stage of things, and she's not even changed from heels to jogging shoes, so to speak.

After all, if one action is the same as any other why not just go crazy.
The other thing is that many people think they are the top of their spiritual food chain. They have no authority over them. They do not believe in a higher power, they do not fear a higher power. There is no higher power other than themselves.
You see this all day, every day, everywhere.

why do you want to know about someone else's misery?

He was hospitalized for a bronchial infection and his condition worsened; he had a stroke, had to have a tracheotomy so he could breathe and he's now in isolation for a new infection. Prayers that he improve and for peace and strength for my friends, who both have demanding jobs and are now working remotely from his hospital room.

The battles in culture and politics we discuss here daily are truly
rooted in the spiritual realm. In all honesty, another politician isn't
gonna solve them. It's a fool who trusts in the horses and chariots of
Egypt and expects deliverance.

But I'm fully aware of the drawbacks of discussing it and also fully understand it will never be a reality.

But past midnight, in a desolate comment thread, I can still post my
opinions, no matter how misguided, naive or redundantly repudiated they

I'm saying a prayer for Fen, who needs support, renewal, refreshment and physical healing.

I'm saying a prayer for Bill, at my church, who is making a huge life changing decision regarding moving his work and his family.

I'm saying one for ace, who has noted he is tired and needs respite.

And I'm saying one for the rest of you, that you would be blessed and protected.

Confrontational assholes like you, would be my guess.

Ceding you this though. Certainly more than a few ONTs have turned into Dear Abbys for love, loss, pain, despair.

I get that.

What you're not getting is how many have turned into some pretty damn good tales of perseverance, victory, triumph and success.

There's room for everyone, as I see it. I don't set the rules here, and NEITHER DO YOU.

Fenlon mentioned someone in dire straits, here in Texas. Might've been close enough for me to bring a positive affect to the problem. Either directly, or through "contacts".

not suggesting those needing prayers should not get them. the move towards misery started some time ago with one or two commenters.

do not wish anyone less than the best, however, no one goes to their favorite bar or wherever to revel in the misery of someone else. everyone needs somewhere to go to get away from it all and this was the somewhere for lots. not so much.

imo It's impossible to have an opinion that differs without being labelled angry, trolling or simply being ignored around here for the past few years. Such a change from a decade ago.
Maybe Ace will post more and more open and irreverent threads because why bother with thought provoking insight that takes hours of prep and legwork only to be derailed with cats, shoes, romance, loneliness, jewelry, weather, etc. on every single thread he posts.

also once the white knighting started on the OOT the tribes stayed faithful and dispersed. It was a loss for the blog and for the people that were invested in those nics, though quietly invested. imo

You're not entirely wrong in your opinion, but you ARE opining, and not winning much by way of persuasion here, are you?

That's besides the point.

The complainers can be dealt with by patience, tolerance, respect, humor, even with biting humor and mild sarcasm, cajoling, persuasion or argument, if need be.

Personally, I've helped fix a car in my area, that helped a "complainer", and put some professional contacts into play that helped another.

And I'm about to send some very nice material goods to a frequent contributor here, to help support what she does. Gratis.

You rallied and made that Vegas Mo Meet a thing. And I'd have loved to have been there, and maybe we'd get along better had I been able to do so.

Point is, we do what we CAN do, and sometimes, aspire to do MORE than we can do, but dammit, we try.

I've seen countless maudlin drunks in bars late at night. Obviously, so have you.

Which is why I pledged to myself that I'd never have a barstool growing outta my ass, as a way of life. Doubt you do, too.

So, I can appreciate your ire at the "whaaa" stuff that happens, now n' then

You want the fun?

You've got the job. Bring the fun. Rally others to bring the fun. I'm as warped, weird and Far Side humored as they come, so that'd be a welcome thing.

Complaining always about others not having the fun, doesn't bring the fun.

imo It's impossible to have an opinion that differs without being labelled angry, trolling or simply being ignored around here for the past few years.

It was a loss for the blog and for the people that were invested in those nics, though quietly invested. imo

sure, however, everyone more or less self regulates. no one is suggesting that the misery is not allowed to be discussed but that it is inconsistent with the thread in general.

do not have some specific topic to discuss, however, would like to roll in here to find something funny being discussed or make a stupid, funny comment to have someone run off with it.

567 I'll get myself in trouble but here goes.

What I've noticed has changed here at Ace's, both in the ONT and other threads, is that the only POV that's really encouraged is the most cynical one. Everything that Dems and bucks do is evil/cowardly/stupid, everything that our side does is better.

Do I agree with this all the time? It depends a lot on my mood at the time. Sometimes no, a lot of the times yes.

And, I can understand completely WHY this POV has become popular, especially here: because leftists/SJWs/the media (BIRM) do *not* respect centrism anymore, no matter how much weak lip service they claim otherwise, and have pretty much declared war culturally.

So I can understand the attitude here, even when I don't 100% agree with it.

Okay, go ahead and flame me to death.

595 OK here's my sh!tty IRL interaction with people today.

Guy complains because his sh!tburg town didn't burn public $$ to restore their old movie theater. I tell him, f*ck that. My sh!thole wasted $18M restoring ours, and it's booked only 20 days a year, since there was already a glut of performing spaces nearby.

Then I'm looking at him, thinking pitilessly, "you fat f*ck, you weigh 450 lbs, you get out of your trailer maybe 3 times a year, you needed MY help to get out of it today. and you're broke. So after your sh!tburg blows all that $$ on your movie theater, when the hell are YOU ever going to go there?"

That's the kind of trivial stupid human interaction crap that I obsess over for hours afterwards. Blah. I suck.

Trump would have a field day against her. At least when Former First Lady Clinton ran, she had been a Senator and a Secretary of State. No matter how badly she sucked at those jobs, she held them. Mooch simply has no political/business experience to draw on in a campaign featuring debates. Personally, I think she's happy to be out of debt and not living paycheck to paycheck, livin' large as it were. I see her the same way as Barry in one big way: They are both lazy. With Barry, he was groomed, wheels greased, opponents drop out of races, opponent had sealed divorce records published, college history pretty much buried, etc. In other words, Barry was a long-term project and required some polishing before hitting the Big Stage and the DNC 2004 Convention. Mooch has had no such backing and, this is where her laziness comes in, she's simply doesn't have the wherewithal, the grit, to work for it. Hillary got into the trenches with Trump while Mooch has a glass jaw (as do most of the current Dem candidates).

665 Sock monkey, no doubt there's a large percentage, you're correct about that. But Barry ran against two people who really really didn't want to win the Presidency. Trump always wants to win and would take her to task on her inexperience (which McCain refused to do with Barry) and he would so belittle any moderator like Candy Crowley who tried to interject themselves into the debate (Mitt lost to Barry in large part thanks to losing to Candy Crowley first).

When one is up against a professional fighter like Trump, one's weaknesses are easily exposed. Mooch has never faced any scrutiny to date. And, honestly, I think if Mooch ran she'd lose the black straight male vote (not sure about the black gay vote -- but then Don Lemon, so she'd get the black gay vote). She'd probably also lose the straight Hispanic male vote. Those are two cultures who do not like mouthy, nagging, bitchy-faced women and Mooch checks all those boxes.

Raimondo adores the socialist hellholes that run on corruption and violence so much yet, he avoids moving to Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, or Ecuador, etc etc....because reasons.

Instead, he dreams of forcing America to become an additional socialist hellhole.

How original Raimondo. How original.

737 Houston Public Library is apologizing after a man charged for sexually assaulting a child was allowed to entertain children at Drag Queen storytime.
The library said Friday that a review revealed the volunteer never completed a background check before he was allowed to participate in the program.

Albert Alfonso Garza, 32, was last seen reading to children at the Montrose Library in September 2018.

Sometimes "Sorry" doesn't f*cking cut it. Damn right it should never happen again someone should lose their job.

------

Whomever came up with and allowed "Drag Queen Story Time" at a public library should be drug out and hanged until dead.

But Houston and Montrose area.

Let me guess. Most if not all were illegals.

A few years ago a co-worker of mine was killed by an illegal like that. Our boss went to the scene (it was very close to the office) and spoke with the cops working the "accident". The cops told him that this sort of thing (a drunk illegal speeding, hitting and killing someone) happens in Houston on average of once a week. But "sanctuary city"....
