EMT 03/15/19 Media Enforced Apathy Edition

Based on the lessons the media has drummed into me, I'm having a hard time figuring out why I should particularly care about a mosque shooting in NZ.

Hasn't the media signaled to us that religious targets of violence are non-news, by way of its utter blackout of countless Christian church massacres around the world; its disinterest in the massacres of Christians and Jews at the hands of Muslims; its "boys will be boys" approach to Muslim on Muslim violence?

At the very least, isn't it just a local news story?

No, at long last the media got their white whale, and they are going to peel every last bit of meat off that carcass they can.

The media has so screwed up the meanings of left vs right I never use those terms. I use Progressive or Socialist and that would clearly describe the fukn nut in NZ. Christians at risk are the one exception I'd make to cutting asylum requests. If the Cubans I know are any evidence, we get two generations of actual loyal Americans. (Then it seems to break down, but that's our fault for making them go to our commie schools.)

I agree with this decision, even if it is for the wrong reasons.

We've known for a long time what motivates these people: desire for fame.

And we give it to them. We make them into celebrities and let them drive policy. One jackass shots up a church down south and the Rebel flag gets banned and Dukes of Hazard pulled off the air.

These shootings happen because the WORK. The media makes that happen.

The only thing that will stop them is blotting out the killer's name and silencing the message. Better late than never.

- The mosque attacks were not carried out by true white supremacists. White supremacy is an ideology of peace. Most are moderate white supremacists who never mass-shoot-up any mosque.

- Most mass shootings against Muslims are not carried out by white supremacists. Therefore white supremacy isn't a problem. In fact, if you exclude this terrorist attack, statistics show that more Muslims have been killed by terrorist attacks from other Muslims than by white supremacists.

- If you think this event justifies your bigotry against white supremacists, then you should Get Off Your High Horse. The historical Islamic Crusade to force their religion upon the rest of the world means they are just as bad as these NZ terrorists.

This isn't something I came up with. It's been known since the 1990s. These killers are meticulous in their planning and the original Columbine shooters (who really got the ball rolling in so many ways) even discussed who would play them in the sure-to-be-made movie about their exploits.

If you destroy the manifesto (or at least lock it up for a while), blot out the names of the killers, and deny them their fame, you remove a key incentive. Instead of going out in a blaze of glory, they are just another crime story.

Again, all of this is well known in the literature. You may want to read up on it.

I think it a mistake to try to draw a hard line between the two. Evil feeds crazy, and crazy feeds evil, seems to me a better way to look at it.

Unless we are looking at a demonstrably chemical or other physical cause, I don't think "mental illness" is a useful concept. People can be driven, or taught to be, insane. Which is a different matter.

There's been a debate in New Zealand for many years about changing its flag. A replacement with the silver fern is among the favored designs. The current flag features the Union Jack which, of course, symbolizes colonialism and, by extension, white supremacism. In other words, the whole country has been riding around in the General Lee for 150 years.

Maybe it's finally time for New Zealand to get on the right side of history and change its flag.

I tend to think people will default to do evil and wicked things and need moral guidelines and reasoning to keep a lid on it. That's why I think we could be heading for some interesting times with the western worlds rejection of Christianity and reason.

Yeah, the buick encore is their mini SUV....it's a four door hatchback type of thingy.... the back seats look like they'd be a squeeze for a full grown adult tho...but, I like the looks of the little guy...looks like it would handle well...
