Google Manager Lectured Employee: We Have to Take Fake News and Hate Speech Seriously, Because That's Why Trump Won the Election

Alrightee then.

Let's give Google more legal authority to Censor All The Things.

On Monday, Google software engineer Mike Wacker published an email he received from a fellow Google employee. That employee recounted a discussion with his manager in which the manager said Donald Trump won the 2016 election thanks to fake news and hate speech.

"I posted a comment on a meme regarding fake news on Search and someone reported it to HR. I didn't say I was in favor or against, just cautioned that we need to be carful [sic]," the anonymous employee wrote. "My manager brought it up in our 1:1 last week. Made me feel very uncomfortable for having an opposing view. He said we need to stop hate speatch [sic] and fake news because that's how Trump won the election..."

The terrified employee kept quiet, censoring himself. "I obviously didn't say anything and just wanted it to end. I...would like to see all managers required to take political bias training," he wrote.

Worse, the "Bias Busting" course at Google demonized conservatives and Trump supporters, the employee wrote.

Although a lot of it was the media freaking out about the proliferation of news sites (yes some were fake making shit up but many weren't just commentary on other stories and passing them around) because people using those aren't getting their daily dose of propaganda from the MSM. That's why they're still beating this horse.

56 In ALL societies, ALL places, ALL times the most Radical position of all has *ALWAYS* been to be in further of unrestricted Free Speech.

And understand, Free Speech that has to be protected is ALWAYS that speech which is *unpopular* with the Majority. "Popular" opinions never need any protection, it is only those opinions that a majority, or a Government, despises that need to be shielded. To say that these opinions must be heard is a truly Radical, and almost always Unpopular, in the broad sense, position.

Those who want to gain Power are always desperate to squash the words of any of those who might stand in their way to Power.

Yep. Still impossible to exclude their evil.

I use multiple proxy/privacy filters, my favorite local one being uMatrix. It's a granular web filter that tracks every URL/resource request from every web page. It's become unusual for me to visit a site - any site - without Google trying to track me either directly or indirectly. They provide all sorts of tools to website developers and, naturally, these developers employ those tools to make their lives easier and to make profit.

It's insidious and real work to navigate the WWW without Google's presence. They definitely need government regulation at this point. And by that I mean regulation by people who haven't been taking their money to get into office.

"Russia was helping Trump" is fabricated DNC lies (which THEY think is real), backed up by lying to FISC and spying on Trump. So Comey pushes the "Trump/Russia under investigation" lie, but Google leftists STILL believe it, because it is the FakeNewsNarrative.

But the Truth leaking out helped Trump for sure, it is just that Google can't accept it as truth. The truth pushed DebbieDoesPakistan out, exposing her fixing of the primary. The Truth about CNN (Donna Brazille) leaking questions to Hillary came out, they can't accept that either.

But those truths (THEY call fake) did help Trump win. Crooked Hillary was Exposed. But the FBI took their revenge.

To the contrary... it's morally *mandated* to hate. What sort of monster would tolerate bad people or bad ideas? Huh? Huh?

/scowl

Some of us grew up with the idea that free speech was important and tolerance specifically applied to things that we found abhorrent. Now it's all picking sides and hating the people that deserve to be hated, usually because they supposedly hate people that don't deserve to be hated.

I swear the last generation of nincompoops left the church and never learned to identify how moral righteousness can go wrong because they were too busy feeling superior for not being superstitious. Turned them all into sanctimonious twats.

But the uMatrix filter is really the most convenient tool I have. Since it can block every resource, no script or code reaches my browser/renderer without me knowing about it and allowing it. 171 by the way, gotta share this with you, email from Adam Schiff:

The Constitution gives the president the power to grant pardons, and
while that power can be used to correct an injustice or give a second
chance, there are disturbing indications that President Trump could use
it to obstruct investigations involving him and his family.

With so many of his close associates facing jail time, including his
former campaign manager Paul Manafort who was sentenced yesterday,
there's a real risk the President could try to protect himself by
issuing or promising pardons.

That's why I just introduced the Abuse of the Pardon Prevention Act,
legislation to prevent this president or any other, from abusing the
pardon for their own personal benefit or to obstruct justice. My bill
would ensure that if the president issued a pardon in a case involving
him or his family, the evidence gathered would be turned over to
Congress, meaning a coverup would't succeed.

Without any supporting evidence or anything.

Somehow I don't think that Southwest, for example, has an extra 35 737's just sitting around, parked in a desert somewhere, ready to jump in to service.

I also think they planned their purchases to coincide with when their older 737's were coming up on their incredibly expensive d maintenance, and instead of spending the millions to rebuild the plans (as the law would require), they're going to fly them off to plane heaven and have them scrapped.

It just seemed like such a stupid thing to say (without any supporting evidence) in a "business" article.

If I were a southwest shareholder, and I learned that Southwest had hundreds of millions of dollars tied up in planes that were just hanging out just in case they were needed, I'd be a little pissed.

Also, Southwest only flies 737's, so they'd be pulling their newer, more fuel efficient MAX's and replacing them with -700s, assuming they had 35 -700's just hanging around not being used, which I... have a really hard time believing.

Posted by: J.J. Sefton at March 11, 2019 06:46 PM (zBaqJ)

I don't think you can do the job by dismantling it. I think that there are a few remedies though.

(1) Force them to send email with all collected data on each individual once a year. Also force them to gain approval before selling any data. That is, even data they created, if it is connected to a name or a group below a certain size then they may "own" it, but it is no different than taking a photo of a model for sale - they need a release. This will send some profit to the individual and create avenues for competition.

(2) make them, and all the big techs publish all filtering, feed, etc. algorithms. So the way they calculate what to show on search, or what products to show, or what news, etc. EVERYTHING. make it all transparent. They will have to really simplify things, and there is still plenty of room for profit since they will still own the technology, data centers, data bases, etc. but how they decide how to use that information will be public. Auditable by anyone.

(3) make all their interfaces public and open to competition. Similar to what Judge Greene did for AT&T by giving competitors access to their long distance and the ability to sell hardware to the customers. Build Chinese walls so that one group (say maps) does not have special data that they only provide to another group (say android) limiting the ability of outside competitors to use it.

IOW, this whole thing is fuelled by a relatively small number of money men who all watch each other. As soon as one or two of them gets hosed badly by these whale startups, they'll all sober up and start acting rationally.

Then, it's ovah... a lot of these firms' valuations will violently contract, and many will simply flame out.

249 I dunno. That's two catastrophic crashes involving 737 MAXes that apparently involved erratic behavior in flight. I don't think I would feel comfortable flying in one until they get to the bottom of it.

But Al Sharpton said the Africans have been flying for over 4,000 years or some such.

You'd think they would have this all worked out by now.

253 I use Private Internet Access, they don't keep logs and if a Government requires it they shut down that server and move it to another country.

255 223 The FEC has some pretty strict rules on what can and cannot be done by networks in regards to candidates. Shouldn't Google and Facebook and YouTube all fall under those same conditions?

They want to be protected as a private Corp while acting as a network.

256 The only TRUE Conservative thing to do is pray to the God of The Free Market to fix everything. Anything else smacks of Communism and / or Putin Puppetry.

257 Democratic fundraising numbers will look a LOT better once they finally start reporting all the in-kind contributions from Google and Facebook censors.
