Report: Deep State Operator Rod Rosenstein Finally Leaving the Justice Department

Trump looks very weak and foolish when he keeps these people on, as if he's too afraid to fire their asses.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein plans to leave the Justice Department in mid-March, agency officials told news outlets Monday.

A Justice Department official said that Rosenstein's departure is not related to a controversy surrounding his alleged offer to wear a wire during conversations with President Donald Trump, according to CNN.

Lie.

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe claimed in an interview that aired Sunday that Rosenstein broached the idea of wearing a wire to the White House in May 2017, days after James Comey was fired as FBI director.

I still believe he should have sacked Comey and all his direct reports on day one.

9 It is often reported that Rosenstein has refuted or denied McCabe's statement about the wire.

Except that isn't true.

What he says in specifics to the wire is that DoJ never authorized the sort of thing McCabe is talking about.

Well, okay. But did he talk about it?

I have to think somehow he was compromised or just very, very stupid. It was almost like Sessions was determined to sink Trump for some strange reason.

So many wounds were self-inflicted by Trump (like keeping Sessions and Rosenstein on). Imagine if on just Day 1 Comey had been fired like every single rational person on both sides of the aisle were basically demanding. It would have been a non-event

All the risky moves Trump is willing to take, getting rid of personnel clearly determined to destroy you is a pretty easy call to make.

people outside the Beltway don't give two shits when someone is fired, especially by a new President.

The oddest thing about the Padres doing this is that it wasn't even 5 years ago when they tried to fast track and failed. 2015 they tried to contend ahead of schedule and it was a disaster. Almost as bad as the year the Marlins bought up Mark Buehrle and Jose Reyes and ended up in dead last and selling everybody that winter. It seemed like they realized they had to rebuild and went all in on it for 2016 and 2017, but then they give way too much money to Eric Hosmer and now they overbid for Machado. Interesting side note. Over the last few years I have attended a number of Veteran Hiring events here in the NW. Local police agencies are always there. The FBI started showing up about a year ago. Not all the time, but they NEVER used to do that. A brief chat with the agents there...I'm not sure they knew why they were there.

Also people who work in corporate world for the most part want their company to succeed. If the company fails you're out of a job. Govt is not like that. Trump fails, no biggie plenty of jobs to go around.

Posted by: GnuBreed at February 19, 2019 01:06 PM (Z4rgH)

143 I've heard the theory (here and elsewhere) that RR is a "good" guy.

This theory is predicated on a few things:

1.) The fact that RR shitcanned Comey.

b.) The conjecture that he initiated the Special Counsel to sideline the corrupt conspirators and their investigation already running in the DoJ.

iii.) That none of this has been apparent to onlookers, because they're running this thing by the books, and keeping a lid on all of it.

Now, I can see a lot of flaws in this theory. But I'll focus on the most glaring one: the guy he hired to be SC is a man with a long, rich history of police corruption, specifically as it relates to covering up the crimes of the FBI, and has deep personal and professional ties to Comey.

I can think of a few possible explanations, here:

1.) Everything is as it appears - the coup conspirators settled on firing Comey as the "trigger" for the coup. When instructed to do it, RR complied, and immediately put Mueller in place to carry on and expand the work of Comey. They're both crooked - I rate this explanation "highly likely."

b.) RR is a clean operator himself, but so ragingly incompetent that he hired a corrupt cop who was in the pocket of the man he just fired, and who then assembled a team of Democrat donors and operatives to continue attacking the President - I rate this explanation "very unlikely."

iii.) RR and Mueller are both on Team Trump, and this is all Dimension Eleventy Chess. They put together a team of Dem operatives to attack the President, and to round up and railroad every possible known associate of his. They ran roughshod over the spirit and letter of the law. They destroyed the reputation of their agencies and spurred a crisis of confidence among the American about the rule of law and the role of its enforcers. And they did it all to throw the Deep State off the scent, as they prepared to exonerate Trump and drop the hammer on the corrupt coup perpetrators. I rate this explanation "so fucking preposterous it beggars belief."

I don't know what his reasons are, but he has them. Here's a piece of speculation: If the whole Mueller thing had been cut short with mass firings instead of being allowed to play out to this "never mind" result would there have been (A) a leap to impeach Trump from both Democrats or GOP or (B) both Democrats and GOP would have calmly accepted his assurances that it was a witch hunt and dropped the subject?

McCabe is under investigation, IIRC. He has every reason to attempt to throw someone else to the wolves, if it could save his ass. He went after Flynn in part for what appears to be a petty personal vendetta. He is as dirty as Comey. There is no reason to believe what he says about anyone, except that it may conform to our own preconceptions and desires.

That is no defense of Roseypenis.

202 Two points:

1) You'd need balls of steel to agree to a cabinet post without -some- establishment backing, after what happened to Flynn and Pruitt.
2) Before 2018, the Senate was far more precarious thanks to Flake and McCain.

Trump has decided, for whatever reason, to co-opt parts of DC. Without that, the government would be completely unstable, closer to 90's era Russia than America. Clearly he doesn't bow to neoconnery, which is why Kristol and Goldberg are firmly on the outs, and the Chamber of Commerce remains a determined rival. But, and this is vital, he risked immediate war going alone. With all of corporate America openly against him, the chance of victory was something less then absolute.

So he chosr peace.

1. He came to power over his own party's objections, so he has a more limited pool to draw from;

2. Reagan had some of the same problems in terms of entrenched bureaucrats opposing him from within;

3. The government isn't a construction project; he has to secure approval from the Senate for significant posts (which inhibits firing) and there needs to be some stability at the cabinet level.

I'd say he still bears some of the blame, of course. But he doesn't have it easy.

He has every right to fire these people, like RR. They are against him in every way and he should know by now to pick his staff with utter scrutiny. And if there is any doubt, kick them to the curb and be done with them. Sadly for him, there are probably only about 3% he can truly trust.

289 Historically the origin of the term "dictator" is from Rome, where there was a constitutional office of dictator who was appointed by the senate to take absolute power in times of emergency then step down. They even had a few who did it, in the past. Even monsters like Sulla eventually left office for the system to go back to normal. Then Caesar decided to just stay and it was off to the races.

He's had one of the most demanding and thankless jobs in DC over the last 2 years, I can't say I blame him.

Go look at the video of the White House Hanukah Party from last December. Trump publicly recognizes him, says he has been doing a great job and announces that he deserves a much better seat than the one he has been given.

Andrew McCabe is THE key operation player in both the Hillary email cover up and Crossfire Hurricane. This isn't conjecture, it's well documented fact. He was fired from the FBI for his lying and leaking. Also documented fact. He is currently under criminal investigation for his actions under a grand jury. Also fact.

Rosenstein took the Trump Russia investigation away from him in the only way he could, by assigning it to a Special Counsel. As much as everyone dislikes Mueller, what would you be saying if Rosenstein had seen what was going on and left the investigation in his hands?

Do you remember what happened on May 9, 2017? In addition to firing Comey, Trump started interviewing his replacement along with another person, Rod Rosenstein. Robert Mueller was one of the people Trump supposedly interviewed for that job.

People spend an awful lot of time dealing with absolutes, black and white, good or bad guy. Life is rarely that simple in any issue.

There are still a lot of details to come out and I'm not saying that anyone is pure. Sometimes you do the least bad thing when you are in a horrible situation. I think Rosenstein, who had been on the job for a whole two weeks when Comey was fired, chose the least bad way to get out of a horrible situation.

It is disturbing enough that we should turn the education of the young over to the government in the first place. But to centralize control under the feds? Horrifying.

There is no such thing as education without indoctrination. State education, outside of specialized military training, etc., is pretty much equivalent to a state church.

Alternate theory, Rosenstein knew McCabe was toast as temporary FBI director and didn't know who Trump would pick to replace Comey and the impact on the coup. So they decided that Rosenstein should pick a SC to continue the work to eliminate Trump interference.
