Two Suspects Under Arrest in Jessie Smollet Case
Claim: One of the Suspects Filmed Using the Gym in Jussie Smollet's Apartment Building

Update: Dang, I just saw this.

Chicago Police say the two men being questioned in the attack on "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett are considered suspects.

Department spokesman Anthony Guglielimi said Friday that the men are in custody and have been arrested based on probable cause that they may have been involved in a crime. But he says they have not been charged in the Jan. 29 attack.

Police have identified the men only as two Nigerian brothers. Police have been questioning them since they were picked up by officers at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport on Wednesday after returning to the city from Nigeria. On Thursday, police served a search warrant at their home.

Update: Is this actually one of the suspects?

If so, why did he have access to Jussie Smollet's apartment building?

Was he a guest? If so, a guest of whom?

See below for more about this pair.

That neighborhood watch blog has more tips and rumors from police.

Two Chicago brothers who attended Lakeview High School are "potential persons of interest" in the purported hate crime attack against Empire TV star Jussie Smollett in Streeterville early on Jan. 29. The two were detained by Chicago police at O’Hare airport on Wednesday evening as they returned from a trip to Nigeria, according to police department sources. CWBChicago is not identifying the men because they have not been charged with any crime.

Here is the latest:

* At least one of the men has appeared as an extra on Smollett’s show, Empire, which airs on Fox. That man has a YouTube channel featuring three audition reels.

...

* Police on Wednesday executed a search warrant at a North Side home, seizing electronics, bleach, a red hat, clothing, and more. The search warrant receipt states that police retrieved proof that both men live in the raided apartment....

* The brother who appeared on Empire has no adult arrests in Chicago since 2014, but the Chicago Tribune reports that he was charged with attempted murder in Cook County in 2011 but later pleaded guilty to aggravated battery....

* The brothers flew to Nigeria several hours after Smollett reported being attacked, according to reporting by CBS2Chicago. They were arrested as they returned via O’Hare last night. Their attorney told the station that they have no idea why they are considered to be of interest in the matter.

A police source denied to them the previously-reported claim that Smollet arranged the attack because he was being written out of the show.

Well... not yet he's not.

The denial of the written-out-of-the-show claim could explain why police previously said that media reports were not "accurate," while not completely denying everything. If anything reported is inaccurate, you can generally say "reports are not accurate." Lying politicians do this, and it seems wise for police handling a sensitive case to take a broad view of what "accurate" might or might not mean.

That is not an area of Chicago (pretty much adjacent to the Magnificent Mile - with high-end shopping and pricey hotels - Navy Pier, etc..) that you want to be associated with MAGA attacks.

Mayoral elections!!! The dirty cop who shot a kid was transferred to CT (?) and was almost killed in gen pop according to today's news. Rahmbo kept the whole nasty shooting quiet until after his last election. Victim's family got bigly settlement from city and it was all hushed up until after the election.

The part about the human trafficking -- I THINK -- could become moot if Trump gets the wall built where he wants it to be built. I'm wondering if that's his thinking. Don't overthink this. Jussie lives in Chicago during Empire filming. He's got a place. One of the Nigerians was supposedly video taped working out in the same building's gym. They obviously knew where he lived.

Bigger question is why they weren't clever enough to make sure they were caught on camera beating Jussie. You'd think a proper hoax would wanna leave a video trail that could be replayed on television in a permanent loop.

But Jussie was too vain and fragile to approve a proper beatdown.

Today, Melania and I join citizens across our county in praying for the continued healing of those in the Parkland community and all communities where lives have been lost to gun violence. We reaffirm the bonds of faith, family, community, and country that unite us as one Nation, and we resolve to continue building a society that truly values and respects the dignity of human life.

Somebody has to sit down and write routines to capture a troll and send the comment into Bitville. Someone had to write code to make sure certain words don't make it to the screen. Don't believe me? 334 Are we back to the disastrous bill?

Rush is apparently just learning of some of the worst provisions. And he thinks the Dems will pay any price for their insanity? Based on what? Ridiculous.

The unbelievable Section 224 does not, as far as I can see, expire with the fiscal year in September. "This or any other act" language needs to be repealed, it doesn't expire. Unless I'm misremembering how this works.

And those not familiar with the realities of immigration enforcement apparently don't understand that 224 is not just a disaster as it stands - it is merely *a starting point* for the judiciary. The key element of 224, defining "sponsors", contains an undefined part - potential sponsors - that is ridiculous as part of any legislation, but more importantly is a template for judicial re-write/expansion of the law.

The bill bars barrier work in 5 TX border public land areas that, according to some, are existing/known hotbeds of cartel smuggling activity. The "consultation" provisions getting most attention, on their face, are "only" a 7-month delay in barrier work in named jurisdictions, as if that's not bad enough. But the chances are slim that this will *not* provide the basis for additional lawfare by the jurisdictions, beyond 9/30/19.

Judging specific provisions without placing them in the context of reality is very misleading.

One meta/strategic thing: that the Dems, and GOP, feel comfortable pushing this, probably the worst immigration legislation since Simpson-Mazzoli, in *this* context/situation, is sort of shocking.

Posted by: LizLem at February 15, 2019 01:18 PM (hvf9s)

Unfortunately it's as worse as it's ever been. It doesn't help that the Blue states feel impowered to ignore immigration enforcement which enables the trafficking . They have doubled down just to spite Trump. Like I said in an earlier thread I hope it's true it's always darker before the dawn.

Added to that, when you don't expect to see someone in the real world, you don't automatically notice them. I of course knew what Newt Gingrich looks like, but I walked right by him in front of a restaurant and once inside, my husband said, "Whoa, Newt looks better in make-up" and I never saw him. And he's way more distinctive looking than that generic "if I had a son" tv drone.

I told her I have and I know what goes on....except it's no longer confined to border states.

The public is totally and utterly brainwashed. I was thinking about Barry having declared three national emergencies and I have no recollection of him doing so because a big fucking deal was never made out of it. But now, even on sites like Daily Caller, I'm seeing articles, "Trump Declares Emergency: What You Need to Know". Funny, I don't remember articles like that when Barry and all the others did it.

The weirdest part of the story is how he thinks that anyone outside of
hip-hop/gay knows who he is. I get that when you live in an echo chamber
that you think your echo is really loud, but does he really think that
his story made any sense at all? Added to that, when you don't expect to
see someone in the real world, you don't automatically notice them. I
of course knew what Newt Gingrich looks like, but I walked right by him
in front of a restaurant and once inside, my husband said, "Whoa, Newt
looks better in make-up" and I never saw him. And he's way more
distinctive looking than that generic "if I had a son" tv drone.

Ignore the low information peeps for a minute. Lets talk about the high information peeps.

What price will the GOP pay for this ? Will Republican Voters leave them in droves ? They haven't yet - and until they do, the GOP is free to do whatever they please. It's the same as the Black Votes to Dems. Dems don't really give the Black Vote much in return for their support - because they don't have to. It's not like the Black Vote is going to leave.

Until Republicans decide to let the GOP lose, and lose bigly, they've got no leverage. The GOP can do whatever it wants, with impunity.

463 Broseidon (and belated congrats on your Jeopardy! success, BTW), my point on the 5 named jurisdictions is that in the current lawless era we inhabit, it is very easy to imagine lawfare *delaying* actual barrier work beyond the 7-month-nearly-guaranteed-delay until September 30.

And delay is material in all of this. It's been 25 years of non-enforcement, lawfare, etc etc etc, and time matters.

Anyway, the 224 outrage is really beyond words. I literally can't believe Congress passed something like this. Unless some presently unforeseen interventions or changes or something intervenes, this is literally turbo-charging *illegal child migration* - arguably the most morally repulsive and outrageous aspect of this entire illegal mass migration disaster.

Rep. Chip Roy called it the Child Trafficking Promotion Act, I think. That is *not* hyperbole or political styling.

I used to program in a language that was chock full of procedures -

like:

capitalize(comment) -- which would magically return all of the letters in the comment in upper case. But not all software has that function. They may, but do it differently. Or you have to 'roll your own' by testing the ASCII value of each character and if below a certain number add to it, otherwise leave it alone.

It *appears* that they have been arrested for the "attack" on Smollett, which he reported - but if it never actually happened, then they should go free.

yeah, i think they're probably being charged on either conspiracy to file a false police report (is that a real crime? probably, you can conspire to do anything) or some other unrelated matters.

My belief is that they're not being charged in the ATTACK because there was no bona fide attack. It was intended to be a fake performed in front of a working surveillance camera.

The thing I don't get is that Jussie is a critically respected actor, due to Empire, with a lot of talent. (Respected in Hollywood at least, even if the average American doesn't know him.) Why be sad you are getting written off of a dying show, if the rumor they are writing him off is true. Jump to a new project! There are actors that TRY to get written off a show and can't. I don't get why he would drum up a silly stunt when he can move on and get work somewhere else. Unless the stunt is to get better name recognition to leverage into another role?

I need to stop playing 12 dimensional chess about this, when I sense the real motives for Jussie doing this are probably very simple and very stupid.

569 India's prime minister warned Friday of a "crushing response" to the suicide bombing of a paramilitary convoy in Indian-controlled Kashmir, an attack killed 41 and is now the deadliest in the divided region's volatile history.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi placed the blame for Thursday's bombing squarely on neighboring Pakistan, which India accuses of supporting rebels in Kashmir.

"Our neighboring country thinks such terror attacks can weaken us, but their plans will not materialize," he said, adding that government forces have been "given total freedom" to deal with the militants.

I actually think old-schooling coding/formatting is GOOD.

but of course I think that, because my site zombietime is ALSO based on 1990s era code.

But here's the thing about it:

1990s-era code does not break. Because it has no fancy-wancy widgets and doohickeys, it "just works." And it loads a hell of a lot faster than a lot of modern pages.

And what I like best of all is that it is "backwards compatible" with basically all existing computer, unlike modern code which can only be read my up-to-date modern computers with modern operating systems. Which actually excludes about 50% of the wold's computer users.

So I say t Ace: No need to "fix" the blog's underlying code. If it works, it ain't broken, so don't fix it.

The solution is this: throw the House, but retain the Senate. In a cycle where you know you can retain the Senate, vote Dem nationwide in the House. Eradicate the House GOP in its entirety. Start over two years later. I think they'll get the point.

584 Moot point - WH announced yesterday he was signing the bill - but as I noted yesterday, a veto was a very good approach.

Initial votes are *not* veto over-ride votes. Completely different animals. I worked in the Senate for several of these under Reagan/Bush 1, and observed others.

Condensing a lot of stuff - I cannot imagine the GOP in either house, esp. Senate, voting to over-ride.

And it would be, finally, POLITICS being re-introduced to politics, on this key issue. Take a stand, vote one way or the other, decide how you're going to deal with a president demanding your help on the issue that put him in office over your preferred, "establishment" colleagues.

Trump agreed to defer the entire thing until after the mid-terms. INSANE. That was the essence of removing politics from politics. Then Mitch announced the Senate would ONLY consider a solution to this current stand-off AFTER the WH and House had approved it - i.e., rubber-stamp it

It's rare to see such a brazen, undisguised declaration by a major political figure that he would not expose his caucus to political choices, votes, accountability. That is *another* meta, strategic thing that has me changing my entire assessment of the situation.

Obviously they think this Bill is enough to stop or delay him. It might be - I'm just not sold on how much this actually subverts Trump's powers under a national emergency declaration. It does other really heinous things like promote child trafficking, though.

OT: I missed the thread below but when ACE says:
And let me say this about that cocksucker McConnell: this rat bastard and saboteur is many things, but he is not stupid and he is not uninformed about legislation.

He knows this stuff is in the bill.

He helped put it there, and he's a key part of the sales effort to lie to the rubes once again and tell them it's not in there.

Until we pass it, and then, oops! Tricked again! Those darned Democrats got us, but if you send us money and vote extra hard for us, we promise, next time we'll get 'em....

He should do what he absolutely can do - veto the damn bill.

And I've heard enough about "working within the party". The party outright rigs primaries now. They torpedo candidates they don't like on a regular basis. Nope - the first problem is the existence of the GOP. They have to be eliminated.

Exactly - and no one notices that we don't do budgets any more.

We now know that most in Congress are Domestic Traitors. Our borders are non-existent any more. Illegals now have more effective representation than Citizens. Go look at the vote on this bill for the names of the Traitors.

Now, we will see if the Supreme Court are Americans or not with this case.
Keep a list for later use. Or alternatively, start making plans for Government Camp.

663 @352 No, I'm not discounting that Jussie/hussy/pussy was jumped by two email scam artists, aka Nigerians. But given the other incidentals such as not telling building security, holding his Subway Sammy, and not looking like he was too beat up on CCTV BEFORE he reported the "incident" to the cops, it wouldn't matter if the attackers were White Supremacist Bubba Gump Shrimpboaters or Mean, Badass Mr. T Nigerian email scam artists, the pain would STILL be the same.

So YEAH, I'm calling bulls#!t on this. And Jussie/hussy/pussy KNOWS this, and THAT'S why he's NOW claiming there WAS an attack by more "likely" suspects. NOT because he wants to "save face", but to NOW allow the media to gaslight the entire incident to that of blaming Trump supporters for putting out a "false narrative" of Jussie/hussy/pussy NOT being attacked, when he "WAS" attacked. And THAT is the key...the NARRATIVE: "Trump supporters are LYING SACKS OF EXREMENT FOR DOUBTING MY STORY!" Caps intended.

664 It was a planned hoax, not grindr gone wrong or these two guys spontaneously getting in a fight with him, because there was a fake threatening note mailed a week before and now this video of one of the brothers at smolett's apartment.

Posted by: metaps at February 15, 2019 02:52 PM (+/dRU)

665 The whole fussing about providing phones from Jussie - it probably includes texts between him and the suspects, telling them when where and what to do. That is why he edited his phone first.

But they found "electronics" in the apartment. So they probably have his instructions.

Posted by: Inspector Kemp at February 15, 2019 02:58 PM (AJj50)

666 Might be a clever move by police. They might believe it was a staged attack but if they say so Smollet will deny and say police don't take these crimes seriously and are going after a victim. A significant number of people will be in his side and that hurts Chicago police. If police forge ahead and charge his friends as attackers, Smollet needs to admit else his friends go to jail or it otherwise comes out at trial.
