By Scheduling a Vote for the Green New Dream (or Whatever) Legislation Democrats Claim to Want to Pass Into Law...?The Democrats say they want to pass the "Green New Dream (or whatever)" into law. Every Democrat Senator running for President has said so -- or at least said they'd vote for it. So, given that legislation is not just supposed to be a campaign stunt but an actual practical code you intend to make into actual law, Mitch McConnell has announced he will schedule a vote on the "Green New Dream (or whatever)" bill and give Democrats the chance to express their support as actual legislators rather than as mere MSNBC/CNN bloviators. I mean, yes, it's a nonbinding resolution, but do they want this resolution resolved, or not? The reaction from Democrats has been vehement. The only people more outraged by this underhanded stratagem of calling for a vote on a proposed resolution are... the neutral and objective fact-finders of the media. This is a real AP headline, fam:McConnell wields Green New Deal as bludgeon against DemsWhen pouncing and seizing aren't expressive enough -- turn to "bludgeon" as your loaded term of choice. Meanwhile, Congressman Ed Markey, the same Democrat who co-sponsored and jointly announced the "New Green Dream (or whatever)" with Alexandria Donkey-Chompers, now claims that scheduling a vote on it is a "Republican trick" which will "sabotage" the effort to have a "national conversation." Um: You know what's usually a great time for a national conversation, Dummy? When Congress is preparing to vote on a piece of transformative socialist legislation. Or did you not actually want that at all?

99 point something percent of us are NOT rated helicopter pilots, nor are we likely to spend the thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours required to become one. Max Power, I fear your fear is reasonable, but your scope is too narrow. Recall who empowers every idiot Dem (or idiot/dishonest GOP, as the case may be) around the country, from city council to the Senate. And with/without Trump in the Oval, the tectonic forces of idiocy may well have become too powerful to overcome.
Hence the (over-simplified) dichotomy: Trump - Speed Bump or Direction Change? I'm happy to bank a 4 year speed bump, but even more so an 8 year one. Might even be enough time for some of the fundamentals to shift or moderate. Posted by: rhomboid at February 13, 2019 04:30 PM (QDnY+) 218

Veganism isn't really a leftist cause in and of its self, its not a progressivist concept. Its just a splinter group of very odd people driven by emotion who the left leap to protect and defend. The left has abandoned all concept of economic equality and class warfare. Its all about fringe and splinter groups and people who feel bad because they are weird and perverted, about trying to mainstream them and shove normality into the fringe.
Why did this happen? Because most of the people who became the driving force behind the left are the freaky deakies in society. Its sort of how an organization eventually gets taken over by lefties because they're the most dedicated and zealous, and will do the work. Well they've being taken over by an even more weird and zealous group. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at February 13, 2019 04:57 PM (39g3+) 403

Veganism isn't really a leftist cause in and of its self, its not a progressivist concept.
I completely disagree. It's not healthier, it's about anthropomorphizing animals, but still probably being for abortion. It is now inexorably linked to a strong emotional belief in "climate change" and protecting the environment because eating animals as opposed to soy for protein supposedly causes a bigger "carbon footprint." Of course the entire climate change thing is about controlling the population, they're just the ones who want to be controlled the most. Stanford did a study where they asked people how they would vote on bills that would limit personal property, limit transportation, and raise taxes to support green initiatives. They then took the same people and put them through brain washing sessions where they were made to feel guilty about their own carbon footprint, ie they were told it was high compared to others. Then they retested them on "green initiative" voting. The worst they felt about their own "carbon footprint' the more likely they were to vote away their own liberty and convenience (and health). Most people aren't even aware that it's a relatively unhealthy diet, low in necessary fats and proteins and high in simple carbs. Veganism can cause diabetes and inflammation diseases all on its own. But Gaia---the replacement god. Posted by: dagny at February 13, 2019 05:09 PM (nRWPy) 468

I think people are mistaking the end result from the origins with veganism. Vegans didn't become vegans as part of some overarching scheme to manipulate society and economics away from meat products. I know a few and they all are lefties, but they are all vegans simply because they think of animals as people and are horrified by causing pain to someone. They're stupid and ignorant and all have ill health and nasty skin, but they didn't set out to establish some sinister hidden leftist cause.
Leftists have adopted veganism to promote their goals, but that's what became of it, not what it started out as. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at February 13, 2019 05:12 PM (39g3+) 470
Whenever I meet a someone who tells me they are vegetarian I ask "Have you studied the Hindu diet? You cannot simply not eat meat. You have to replace the proteins somehow."I get blank stares.

But that's a big difference between making it some kind of lunatic religion or compelling OTHER people to eat the way I do. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at February 13, 2019 05:04 PM There's also the major issue of calories burned per day vs those consumed. My daughter was vegan. Then she got a job that required her to put many tons of cans on the store shelf over an eight hour day. Veggies were no longer cutting it. She needed high calorie protein in order to do the job. The people - let's call them 'takers' - who move around very little, think vegan is the answer to everything and don't have to contend with the same issues the 'makers' have in life. Yeah those are the boutique vegetarians, the ones who took it up because its cool and/or a lifestyle they want to promote or they just feel sad for baby cows. There are vegetarians who do craft a diet they can survive on and get their nutrients. Its expensive and difficult, but it can be done. Its stupid, I can't figure out why anyone would do it, but hey, as long as they stay in their stupid lane, live your own life. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at February 13, 2019 05:15 PM (39g3+) 475
Once years ago I leafed through a copy of the Vegetarian Times magazine. Thick magazine, and every other page was an advertisement for pills. My impression was that vegetarians aren't really that into food, they'd rather swallow vitamins. Funny how such healthy eating requires so many supplements.

Low protein causes bone loss, low protein in adolescence causes life-long low bone density and less than optimal growth. Entire populations who were malnourished historically were smaller and weaker, this isn't new. But hey, eat vegetables and not meat/fish/dairy/eggs and vegetables. And blood cholesterol isn't from diet, it's from the body which produces it to repair the arteries from damage from sugars from high glycemic foods, ie simple carbs. Fat=/=body fat Simple carbs = body fat.

I agree. Even with a really careful strict diet to get the proteins you need, its STILL not enough for a high impact job or heavy physical activity. Beans are not as dense or fast at delivering proteins the way meat is. God made us omnivorous, its idiotic to think otherwise. It defies science in any case. We have bodies designed to eat meat and vegetables, grains and dairy, etc. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at February 13, 2019 05:18 PM (39g3+) 479

Vegans have to supplement B12 vitamins. The only source of B12 is animal products. You don't supplement, you get sick.
