LOL: Weekly Standard Foe The Claremont Institute Announces Cruise

LOLOLOLOLOL

Maybe a different kind of Cuck Cruise -- as in, Those Who Do the Cucking.

Cucklord? Maybe this is a Cucklord Cruise?

Meanwhile: Womp, womp. (Thanks to Hogmartin.)

Even better, Michael Anton, author of the despised-by-Never-Trumpers The Flight 93 Election, as well as former Trump National Security Council spokesman, will be Cruising With the Uncucked.

The Weekly Standard, which is no longer in business because it was terrible, and its Cuck Associated just can't stop attacking Michael Anton for having pointed out that a presidential election is an important thing and one shouldn't just give it away because someone made fun of you The Twitterz no matter how hurt your butt or sore your p***y.

I wonder if... you know, if anyone's wives will be special guests aboard the Claremont Cruise.

76 i looked into how to set up a convention, briefly. it's a lot of work and you need a lot of money upfront. You have to guarantee that you'll sell x number of rooms, which is another way of saying you have to rent the rooms yourself, then hope to recoup that money from attendees.

I imagine a cruise would be similar, but more expensive.

84 What a great scam. Get rubes to pay you to set up a "cruise" for them, for a chance to hobnob with the "elite," and you get a vacay to your dream destination for free.

Other angles work too. I have a photographer friend that goes as the official photog for bands, and the band to pay for his trip. A couple of photo shoots and he gets to play the rest of the time. Rough life.

I have also heard that if you arrange with the cruise line to teach a skill their guests want to learn, like photography or art or something, you can get free lodging on the ship to teach a few classes during your cruise.

Not to mention your successful helming of TDG V-I and the upcoming TDG V-II, and the recently-concluded, and, by all accounts, wildly-memorable NoVaMoMe.

Which brings us to inevitable conclusion: Who better?

107 The only cruise I ever went on -- didn't have to pay for it, it was a promotional thing to show off the ship on a "shakedown cruise" to get it ready for actual cruise season -- was on a route almost identical to this Claremont Institute cruise. We started in Barcelona, and stopped a few places before going to Monaco, then Portofino, then to (of all places) Corsica, then back to Marseilles.

Overall, pretty good! I hadn't realized just how many cruises there are in the Mediterranean -- I thought it was most a Caribbean thing.

I went along on some of the "shore excursions" because I had to, but in some cases I wish I was free to do what I wanted - -I'm not the "group travel" sort.

The best excursion was actually a small group that went to an obscure farmhouse restaurant in the deep French/Provence countryside that was probably the best restaurant meal I'v ever had.

Wouldn't the plural be "vomitoria?"
Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!)

The plural is indeed vomitoria.

Amazingly, vomitoria are currently "in the news" in classical studies: While ancietn writers did indeed mention "vomitoria" as architectural features, they never actually said what they were for. Based solely on a literal reading of the word, scholars had always assumed that vomitoria were rooms with running water where roman would go to vomit during orgies/banquets, to make room for more food.

But recent research has suggested that this was entirely wrong, and that Romans never actually did have rooms for vomiting. Archaeologists and researchers spent years developing a new theory that may likely be the real story: "vomitoria," is turns out, are only ever mentioned as features of large stadiums and coliseums, not of private residences. And yet no one has ever fond a "barf room" at any existing Roman stadium. The new theory posits that the word "vomitorium" was actually metaphorical, and didn't refer to actual vomit, but merely to large exit tunnels that "vomited" out the crowds after permformanes.

Seriously.

297 Okay, I am reading the Bulwark article on Anton, and it is just a gem. Here's a somewhat lengthy excerpt, but I promise there's a point:

If writing about the merits and demerits of double-breasted jackets had not raised Anton's star, his apocalyptic forecast, ornamented with nativist and racially tinged rhetoric, did the job. Before long, and with Trump's surprising victory in November, Anton (whose pseudonymous identity was pierced by the reporting of the Weekly Standard) found himself invited to join the administration of the man he regarded as America's savior, with no less a figure than Steve Bannon lauding him as "one of the most significant intellects in [the] nationalist movement."

Today, however, having been cast down from the heights of Trump's National Security Council to a perch as a lecturer at Hillsdale College, Anton is back with a slender volume, titled After the Flight 93 Election. It is comprised of three sections: two of which are his previously published essays, including the notorious original, and the third, on the "foundations of American greatness," is also a defense of himself from various slings and arrows that have been directed his way.

Let that sink in. Keeping in mind that TWS and The Bulwark are one and the same:
- The hate him
- They call him a racist, nativist, generally bigoted bastard
- They make fun of him and question his intellect for his works on fashion
- They relish in his leaving the White House and becoming a lecturer
- They lambaste his new work as a repetitive defense against "slings and arrows"

Umm, Bulwark crew, maybe you wanna check your pots and kettles? You people with hotdog fights on Twitter dare call out someone for writing on fashion? You people whose magazines failed and had to be bailed out by new left-wingers to make a new one as kept women are delighting in his being a lecturer at a good college now?

Oy vey. These people are freaking clueless. Like I said, I don't know much about Anton and don't know if I should be defending him or not, but the level of hypocrisy in this article is just unreal.

That's one of the secret strategies for hiding hideous facts from the public, and thereby protecting certain groups: The things they do are so repulsive that they're deemed "TMI," and so are never mentioned, and the propagandists step into the void and paint a false rosy picture of innocence.

This applies to all sorts of things like Muslim ideology, gay sexual practices, abortion, etc.

Sometimes, one needs to expose the brutal truth to dispel the lies.

Yeah, I think there was probably disagreement about this. My dad (who knows a fair amount of Latin and was a big Rome buff) always told me that despite people talking about vomiting in the vomitoria, but that their presence exclusively at large venues meant they probably were bug exists for people to use - to be vomited out of the venue. Like the big exit gates at ballparks today.

Latin is a very metaphorical language -- they used concrete images to refer to non-physcial attributes, very frequently. And this metaphorical-ness had heavily influenced English to this day. There are a zillion examples such as: a "captain" is the "head" of a military unit, from the Latin word for head, "caput." Of course he's not literally the "head" of the squadron (or "corpus") -- me's the metaphorical "head." We've gotten so used to thinking this way that we are unconscious of it by this point. Etc. etc. etc. in almost all Latin words. But the same is very likely true of vomitorium - - metaphorical vomit, not literal vomit.

When I was doing regular royal carribean cruises I think the most I paid was $1500 for a 9 day cruise, and that was room with a balcony on what was the biggest ship. I did around 7 or 8 of those and it was al;ways 12-1500 a person. The metal cruise that I do these days is $2500, for 5 days with a junior suite, BUT, there are 60 bands on the ship that play 2 shows each, so they have to get paid somehow. These are aren't rinky dink bands either, some big names. That cruise you can do as cheap as $1200 if you get an inside cabin, and many of those have atrium view windows that look onto the promenade , which itself looks like a street in paris, or italy, or some shit.

Little-known fact: "conklin'" is an old Cajun method of fishing for catfish. You rub rancid chicken guts into your chest hair, and lie in shallow water breathing through a reed. When the catfish, attracted by the scent, come to feed, they get tangled in the hair. The conkler then stands up, and flings the fish onto the shore.

FFS, Trump Admin., go to f***ing war with this idiotic s**thole state. On all fronts.

I chafe when I hear about intellectual property protecting actions being taken with China or others - if it's from companies in CA. F**k them. They support lawlessness and mayhem and violence and drug addiction and national insecurity and race-based social vandalism. They are not suitable or worthy beneficiaries of federal action, on any level.

I think I'd like Jimmy Buffet to be the lounge singer.

Went to see him once. The warmup band couldn't make the gig, so he got up with a guitar and sang for about an hour an a half by himself. Good show. The venue was dry, so we got a bunch of empty IV bags, filled them with vodka and taped them to the inside of our arms with tubing running down to fill our soft drinks with and we all wore jackets to hide them. Good times, what we could remember of it.

At what point can President Trump declare California to be in a state of insurrection, and send in Federal troops to arrest all the legislators and run the State as a trusteeship?

t-bird, oh yes - the idiotic high-speed rail was approved by the cretinous voters of CA (just as was the idiotic stem-cell research institute). Oh - and the package is complete, as you'd expect - the state violated the terms of the bond measure (don't know what remedy, if any, was imposed by a court).

Lawless ignorance and stupidity - and racism - about all you'll find inside the heads of a solid majority of CA voters.

468 "273 246 Word is that when Michael Anton briefly worked at the NSA, the Never Trumpers undermined him completely and forced him out. Dare them to try that again."

Yep, wish he could come back. John Bolton is in charge there now, and there are a lot of great things about him, but part of his dark side is that he won't allow anyone to work for him unless it's guaranteed that they will parrot every word he says without even the tiniest hint of complaint. "

Bolton's infamous ego also causes him to overreach and freelance with policy. While far from Trump's worse hire, and as you point out, in some ways a good choice, he has serious disagreements with POTUS. He's probably loyal, though, which is refreshing.

It's definitely a laboratory of moderate totalitarianism. California is little more than a subsidiary corporation of Google, and when the inevitable tech meltdown happens a lot of the unpersoning of the agriculture industry will be regretted but, hey, the zoo animals are meaty.

470 Speaking of large ships, this may be a repeat or old news, but the wreckage of the USS Hornet has been located.

very cool, I was honored to give a eulogy for a veteran of WWII at the Houston Memorial Cemetery about 4 years ago. Researching his career gave me a renewed interest in the development of the B-29 as he existed in the military almost exclusively for that purpose.

In that research I got to dive into the story of the Doolittle raid. Charles Lindbergh played a role. That raid really rattled the Japanese military and population.
Posted by: DanMan at February 12, 2019 05:23 PM (XTiHL)

Very true. Yamamoto was so chagrined at the effectively virtue signalling raid that he rammed through the extremely poorly planned Midway excursion that left him dangling 4 carriers out for the plucking, and with a bit of luck we sank all of them.

There are tons of flaws, but the biggest is that there is really no reason the US carriers needed to show up at all in their plan. Assuming they took the island, not a safe assumption as it was stuffed with Marines, eventually the Japanese fleet would be forced to return to Japan and the US could have taken the island back at their leisure. It was far too close to Pearl and far from Japan. And the Aleutians was even dumber. They could have better just sent a boatload of troops under a white flag and asked us to put them in a POW camp for all the use that was.
