"Now, it hardly needs to be said that we shouldn't go around punching guys we don't like in the face. So I am not advocating that. I want to make that clear. But if I were to lose it and start going around punching guys I don't like in the face, one of the first guys I'd punch in the face would be Bill Nye. There are many reasons for this. The first is because he's a smug, condescending d*ck. The second is that he has no formal science education or experience beyond an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering. And this was back in the 1970s. Nye's claim to be a "science" guy is about as valid as Shaun's King claim to be a "black" guy. Both are shameless frauds. Both should be laughed out of public life. I mean, come on, a prop comic with a kids show is not how you do science. But since he can always be counted on to spout whatever progressive dogma is au courant, he'll always have a platform. Oh, and I hope you all can see the tweet down below; because I can't. After I posted a few disparaging remarks about Nye's qualifications in her thread, she blocked me. What a snowflake."

Mrs. Empire asked for prayers that Mr. Empire continue on road for complete recovery. 1/29-PookysGrl report that Pooky started EMDR therapy to rewire his brain to alleviate his flashbacks
It’s tough because session are weekly and they’re uncovering more landmines. Prayers for successful treatment and also for strength. PG who is trying to be a support but isn’t trained in EMDR 1/26-chrjp-Recovering slowly from neurosurgery but very tired and sometimes sitting up is all he can do. Clinical trial through NIH was not successful as tumor is growing too rapidly. Trying to find another treatment option that offers some hope for which he may be eligible. This week he asks for God’s help in choosing a path forward to get treatment and he and wife can find hope for future 1/30-Backwards Gal is back home (has been for a two weeks or so) after scary blood pressure drop and transfusion , B Guy thanks everyone for their prayers, He didn’t ask for this prayer but I am. He’s having financial issues because of gigs being cancelled. Please pray for that situation as well. Thanks.

He was getting it drained and another injection but please pray for healing for him 1/30-Fenelon asks for prayers for D, a member of her congregation, who has had major problems since the summer, has no job and needs money. He didn’t get the job he interviewed for and is really depressed. 2/1-Lin-Duh suffered a miscarriage after an unexpected pregnancy. Please continue to keep her in prayer for God’s strength and comfort 2/1-LadyL asked for prayers for daughter of a friend. After giving birth several weeks ago she had a stroke. She is conscious and has had breathing tube removed ,but has no sensation on one side of her body. Prayers for complete healing 2/8-Tonypete asks for payers for his friend Michele. Michele's daughter eldest daughter died as the result of injuries suffered from a fall on 2/5 during a hiking accident. Daughter had four children aged 9-15, Also his friend's youngest daughter was diagnosed with cancer on the same day that the eldest daughter died. Prayers of comfort and strength for Model_1066 and this other person's friends and family members. 2/12-Votermom asked for prayers of healing and help for her friend myiq (who has the Crawfisher blog) and is not getting good care from VA Also asked for prayers for friend Mothy's sister who has 4th stage lung cancer. 2/12-Lin-duh is having another sonogram today regarding a pregnancy. Hoping and asking for prayers for whatever God feels that the best outcome would be. 2/12-Anonymous horde member asked for prayers for his community in NH. They had two boys die within 2 weeks. One 12 year old drowned after crossing frozen river on his way home from school. Another boy. age 14, committed suicide within two weeks of death of first boy. Families and friends and community are in shock and hurting. Horde member asked for prayer that the Lord God would send down Holy Spirit and bring comfort and healing 2/12-SMH reports that his daughter is "travelling down a dark part and taking children with her." SMH asks that her daughter's heart of stone be turned to flesh and that she receive conversion to accept Jesus as Lord 2/12-Fenelon asks for prayers that she be able to find a good PT job to help pay for son's tuition to college. Also she thanks people for prayers for "D". The job he wanted didn't come through and he will have to live on unemployment starting next week and possibly be evicted because he can't pay bills (has no money-long story)so prayers for a job would be appreciated. Thanks very much 2/11-OlddoginMO has asked for prayers for his wife who has pancreatic and liver cancer. A medical test which which she was supposed to have was cancelled. The fed is funny like that. They usually have return requirements in case a project gets canceled or can't be completed and only IF they agree can the state usually keep it.
I doubt they gave them the money it's in a contract that they have to file with the comptroller to get paid. And if it's not going towards an approved project, how will they qualify for that money?
Trump could use it for his wall as mentioned above but just seeing him take it back from Newsom will be good enough.

The latest MREs have some tasty menu items, there are 24 of them, and freeze dried pork patty, "four fingers of Death", and Beans, in Tomato Sauce, etc, are not among them.
However, the quality of the ingredients, while never quite stellar, has gone downhill. For example, the reason things like beef stew are tasty is long simmering makes tough cuts of beef tender. Stew meat considered too expensive, the .mil has taken to using something called "chunked and formed" beef scraps, held together with something called "meat glue". No, I'm not making this up. It takes an entire case of rations to scrape up a single large cup of coffee, and the kool aid mix will not dissolve in water. The entire meal rises to the level of a good snack, and results an amazingly large amount of trash and packaging. NATICK has done a good job, overall, but the suppliers are cutting corners. The cocoa powder used to be pretty damn good, now it tastes like it's mostly non-dairy creamer. They also include sugar-free items, not a good idea in a survival ration.
My dad said after the war, a lot of guys re-enlisted, not really because of the food per se, but that was part of it. Rural areas that lived through the depression had a horrible time of it. Dirt floors, and no electricity was common. So three hots and cot, medical care, clothing, hot food and plenty of it had some things going for it.

What I hated (I'd worked at one place so long I didn't realize how applying for a job had changed so much) was going in and being interviewed by some young thing fresh out of gender studies who had no clue what the job on offer was about yet she was the gatekeeper to get to the person who actually did the hiring.

Not in HR so my opinion may be completely wrong, but being a Jeopardy winner is a great accomplishment that whoever is looking at your resume is NOT going to see every day. (If ever before.)
If it's true that many resumes are given, what, 3-5 seconds of time, put Jeopardy right at or near the top. It's a perfect hook to get them to look at the rest of the resume, and will definitely stand out from others.

Not that Earth and Planetary Science people don't include a whole lot of AGW true believers, true. But they've at least encountered the concept of "what proxies do we measure to determine paleo-temperature ranges?" Or any other elements of "why we know what we know."
But I'll never quite forget sitting in a fourth year geology class a few years ago (I went back to school) and one of the top students, someone undoubtedly headed to grad school, expressing surprise at the information about how warm the earth used to be. It had just *never come up*.
And our major was the only science major that it ever would have been on topic. So Mechanical Engineering? Just, you know, no.

My oldest friend T and his wife K lost their 19yo, youngest of four sons, to suicide, a week before Christmas. Their family need prayers everyday forever.
Mom fell again last week, but when the x-rays showed nothing broken, she decided to fight through the bruising pain, ignore the wheelchair, and keep on walking (with the walker). Couldn't get to her workout class but at her trainer's insistence, takes time to stationary-cycle. For pain relief, full healing, and no more falls; let her keep sharp and as healthy as possible to her century birthday next year, and beyond.
Mentioned here a few times over the years, Milady Webworker has a difficult, disfiguring, debilitating disorder about which doctors differ drastically. If there's been an answer to our prayers, in the past twenty-five years, it has not been healing, but at least it has not become worse for some time. Miraculous complete healing is my daily prayer.
Our son and daughter-in-law are expecting their 2nd this Spring. (Gran'babieees!) For the Mama, the baby girl, the 1yo brother, and the weary Dad, for years to come.
For our daughter and other son, struggling with health, relationships, jobs, life.
My estranged older brother is still a hermit. For a healing revolution in his heart and mind. Maybe even reconciliation with Mom while she's still alive. Always hopeful, but peace in the Middle East seems more likely, alas. For his peace in any case.
For our family's sake, for the sake of those whose lives we touch: escape from a crushing bind we've got ourselves into.

Netflix has a show called Brain Child that they are pushing for kids to watch and get all sciency. It's stupid. They advertise it as a smart person talking about science, but first the "science" is pop-sci, and the host is an actress....not a scientist. Moreover, they have another regular on that program also playing as a scientist but one quick scan of her IMDB profile shows she's basically a professional extra.
I gave my kids the same kind of critique I give Nye and Grabass-Tyson: this show is all fake and FOS.

Opportunity hasn't communicated with engineers since June 10. Dust has blocked out the sunlight, and even the expected winds from November through January haven't helped to clear Opportunity's sensors and panels. Engineers tried different things to revive Opportunity, from sending repeated signals and commands to attempt to fix other potential issues. They've sent more than 835 recovery commands that remain unanswered.
It's likely the press conference will announce the end of the mission, holding something akin to a funeral for the solar-powered rover.

have no ice and the water at the equator is *warm* bath temperatures.
We know this because of calcium mineralization of tube worm type

No, I would say the Roman and Medieval warm periods were indeed climate, because both lasted for centuries. It was reliably warm enough for them to raise wine grapes in England, for example.
And neither of those caused by humans burning fuel, either.

I was being... um... you're right, those are climate as well, but in the grand scheme of things they count as little bobbles. So I was meaning to compare them to the larger climate shifts, the glacial periods that are tens of thousands (or more) years each or the Ice Age that's a couple million so far.

I agree with Alabama. In my Christian understanding You are saved by grace, but it comes through faith which is a gift of the Holy Spirit. The work which God would have us do is to be transformed into the image of Christ as much as possible in this life and do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do Basically we have all sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God, but God redeems us but we're not just supposed to sit on the shelf just waiting to go up to heaven. We're supposed to be what God calls us to do and be and about God's business. But don't beat yourself up about your lack of works. Trust in the Lord for your salvation-a process that has happened and is happening and will happen..

Bill Nye is a fool and a liar. OTOH, he gets paid a lot, so maybe he is not such a fool as he appears.
Undergraduate Mechanical Engineering programs commonly include basic physics, basic chemistry, calculus, and thermodynamics, none of which are trivial. In fact, at my university(ISU, BSEE) the engineering department bragged that half of the engineering candidates would drop out by the end of the first year.
