Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Brutal Poll For the Media: 69% Say the Media Is More Interested In Pushing Its Opinions Than Gathering FactsThe poll found that more than two-thirds of the public (69%) think the news media "is more concerned with advancing its points of view rather than reporting all the facts." Only 29% of the public disagrees with that statement. In other words, nearly seven out of 10 adults in the country think the Post ad's blather about "gathering the facts" is bull. That includes 72% of independents, 95% of Republicans, and -- surprisingly enough -- 43% of Democrats. There's more. Fifty-nine percent say that the press covers issues in a way "that seeks to delegitimize the views held by President Trump and his supporters." Sixty percent of independents and 93% of Republicans agree with that. Also, more than half (53%) say they agree that the media "prematurely declared President Trump guilty of collusion with Russia without sufficient evidence." As far as LearnToCode goes, these media personalities could, at best, be script kiddies. They can take a real coder's work and substitute a variable here or there and run it. But de novo? Not a freakin' chance. They read other people's work. They get Wikipedia in their earpieces. Producers feed them all their content. What they do is manage data flow. Of others. They are not themselves thinkers. So, coding? Out of the question.

I don't know how the industry will evolve, but it's dead now as constructed.
I'm honestly curious about that myself. People are moving more and more to streaming and small bits of information shared on social media rather than watching news shows (I mean, other than family of people working for the shows, pundits, or 80 year olds). That doesn't bode well at all for news channels or news shows as we now know them. Newspapers and magazines are already basically dead, and people only use news websites as grenades, throwing an article at their opponent often without reading them. What happens next, where do we go from here? I don't see any way through it, and neither has any sci fi writer or futurist I've read. Maybe there isn't any way, maybe we collapse now and have to rebuild from the rubble, wondering at how these amazing huge buildings and ruins of structures ever could have been made like Angles and Saxons after the Romans left England. -------- I see it as breaking along the same lines it always has: The State and the Party. This is reinforced by what we've learned about the media's involvement with FBI, CIA, ODNI, etc. In the Soviet model we follow, the State and Party are inextricably linked to each other, but there is tension between them, with centers of power distributed between them. As in the USSR, the press falls under the auspices of the intelligence agencies (the State), but takes broad messaging instructions from the Party. The only real difference between our model and the USSR is that the military does not act as a counterweight to the State and Party - the "triangle of power and hate" described eloquently by Yuri Bezmenov. dagny: "They are one and the same."
True to a point. Yudhishthira's Dice just expressed a sophisticated contemporary model to explain this fusion. My interpretation then is a more subtle shift in the power center as I understood it. Constitutionally, the Press (now, MFM) is enshrined. Discrete political parties are not. So it's really the evolutionary manifestation of power and how it is expressed in our institutions. I sense that it's the ideologues of the MFM that are the major drivers of power of The Left. The DNC implements policy that the MFM desires. Moreso than before. Again, they are on the same side and working in tandem (or, said differently, they're the same) but I think there's been a shift in the power center and The Press will exist even if defined Parties dissolve. My kids - libs, but not hard core - don't watch news. I would venture a guess that most people under 40 don't either.
Any "news" they get is probably from a portal like yahoo or something. Posted by: Chi-Town Jerry at February 12, 2019 04:50 PM (so+oy) 310
Speaking of shoveling, the damn plows came through again for the 4th time today. Time to shovel the driveway again.

240 Good grief. Dingle is being treated like deceased royalty. And Cavuto sez, "It's tough to say goodbye."
He interrupted his interview with Gary Sinese about a life of service to show us grieving Debbie Dingle." When do we get to see the Munchkins dancing and singing "Ding Dong that old bitch is dead!!!" Or do we just have to do that at home? Posted by: Tom Servo at February 12, 2019 04:51 PM (Kpl3J) 317
Jake Tapper has the talent and the requisite skills to fail at almost any enterprise that requires him to think and function without the presence of a self-fellating echo chamber.

Want to point out everyone is talking about Sandy O-C' s plan to go back to the 1700's and no air travel yet no one has brought up bringing back square rigged sailing ships.
Clipper ships: fast and carry huge cargo. Totally "green" wind power, and beautiful. I'm all for 'em. Except of course they must wait for wind and tide and require huge manpower to function under brutal conditions... Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at February 12, 2019 04:52 PM (39g3+) 321

Hirono will just need a few weeks longer to go from sailing ship to stage coach to go from Hawaii to DC.

In other words, nearly seven out of 10 adults in the country think the Post ad's blather about "gathering the facts" is bull.
If their credibility is down the toilet, running self serving ads praising themselves doesn't make them look more credible. Posted by: nerdygirl at February 12, 2019 05:30 PM (+lVUW) 332
The DNC implements policy that the MFM desires. Moreso than before. Again, they are on the same side and working in tandem (or, said differently, they're the same) but I think there's been a shift in the power center and The Press will exist even if defined Parties dissolve.
Posted by: AnonyBotymousDrivel at February 12, 2019 04:37 PM (6eEQ+) I think you have it reversed. The monolitic TV MFM sold its soul to the DNC and leftism, and the DNC destroyed any vestige of credibility the institutions had. Since the 80s, alternative media of various forms has been eating away at the monopoly, and now that all you need to run a news show and get the word out is a cell phone and web link the MFM is dead as an institution. And it is too late for the new wave of censorship of Silicon Valley to stop it - if things go to far providers can just encrypt the data to avoid the censorbots. Only warships had large crews to work around those who would be killed in a battle and keep fighting. Guys who paid the bills had to economize.
