Saturday Morning Coffee Break

the-100-best-photos-of-the-week-20160214-54.jpg

That cup of coffee could be wrong. Let's take a look at a few things that didn't get too much attention here at the AoSHQ this past week.

  • Reason 4,598 attorneys are disdained.

  • Be careful with that toothpick.

  • Ouch! NSFW

  • When bongs are outlawed only outlaws will have sharks.

  • Ooops.

  • WI has the best prisons, who knew?

    Enjoy these stories or something else that grabs your fancy in this open thread. Please remember the rules: No running with sharp objects; play nice with other and have a great weekend!

    And now they have two prominent officeholders, and the white guy told a bad joke, and the black guy committed a violent felony. And they can't figure out how to tell their devoted true believers that well, those really are two different things.

    Well, the Godfather of all this is Karl Rove.

    And I guess that would make "W" his avatar.

    Back in the 90s, he was telling everyone that Reaganism was dead and, in essence, what Americans wanted was Free Shit.

    The Republicans edge in all this was to be instead of giving away Free Shit Stupidly like the Dims, they would give away Smart Free Shit.

    So, all that olde-fashioned stuff like liberty, individual freedom, free speech, Constitutionalism, etc went into the garbage in favor of Free Shit, mainly to GOPe bigwigs, that would generate more graft and high paying jobs after their "service" in Congress.

    Win win win - for everyone but the taxpayer and middle and working classes and the Constitution.

    This is why they hate Trump so much.

    He's not endangering their rice bowls so much as all the yummy yummy gravy that gets slopped all over their rice bowls.

    48 Morning, all.

    Here is Mae Murray:

    https://tinyurl.com/y3p9b7nj

    Known as "the girl with the bee-stung lips" and "Ziegfeld's pocket Venus," she was a 96-pound, luscious dancer who started off in the Follies.

    She was also considered to be the model for the "Brinkley Girl," artist Nell Brinkley's 'teens and 'twenties answer to the Gibson Girl.

    https://tinyurl.com/y3elwckr

    She moved on to Hollywood and was an enormously popular star during the silent era, but of her movies, 1925s The Merry Widow (directed in typically lavish style by Erich von Stroheim) is the best known.

    https://tinyurl.com/y59cwngx

    She married four times, her last husband the fortune-hunting "Prince" David Mdivani, who essentially got her blackballed from Hollywood because of his ham-handed attempts to strong-arm studio chiefs.

    https://tinyurl.com/yy6u8f7u

    Without a movie career, Murray drifted along, her finances and mind both dwindling. She tried what we'd call "guest appearances" at cabarets, recreating her famous "Merry Widow Waltz," but her overly-made up appearance was grotesque and her conversation strained and increasingly erratic.

    https://tinyurl.com/yyvexc8v

    She died in 1965 at the Motion Picture House, a retirement home for movie actors who had nowhere else to go.

    https://tinyurl.com/y5459syd

    https://tinyurl.com/y37kjwqm

    As for myself, I'm very depressed today, which usually means a day of heavy drinking. But for now, just breakfast. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

    As for our side - well of course the GOP-e loves abortion, but for the rest of us - actually, the best possible outcome from our POV is for both white guys to stay in office and for the Black Guy to be tossed under the bus by the Dem. establishment - because we can spend the next two years taunting them about this, and their will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth.

    91 Just the accusations which have been made."

    Remember when that was Harvey Weinstein's defense? When a serial rapist is in a position of power, that is *always* their go-too line. And they use that power to intimidate witnesses from coming forth, that's how the game works.

    But as the Weinstein case showed, once the dam breaks, ALL the witnesses start coming out, and then everyone around him has got to scramble just to save themselves.

    You see, to us, in the public, this may look like just one accusation. (ooops, it's already two accusations, officially) But to the higher ups in the Virginia Dem party - it's way more than that, because their actions tell us that they KNOW that he has been a serial rapist for years, and they have been helping him to cover it up. And as women 3, 4, and 5 come out, they either are going to have to get him out of there and out of the news quickly, or they are going to have to start dancing and explaining why they have all been "colluding" in the cover up of his crimes all these years.

    This may be speculation at this point - but look at how everyone close to him politically is acting today. This is how they're acting.

    I am telling you, top Virginia dem's have known about all of this for years. They thought they could keep it quiet. That's why they know it's all true.

    120 The best part about the Yellow Vests in France is that it started because Macron jacked up gasoline and diesel taxes to pay for his version of the "Green New Deal" - which he thought city dwellers would like, because they don't have cars. But it pissed off everyone who bought fuel, especially those who have to for their work, AND then it pissed off everyone in the cities anyways, because it jacked up the cost of everything that had to be transported, which was everything.

    The Green Schemes turn to total shit every time they're tried.

After the two of them were so joyously machine gunned together, his admirers where "shocked!" to learn that in fact, she was barely literate, and that Nicolae had ordered the Universities to grant her those degrees simply because she wanted them. So she could say she was smart.

    But I find Tucker often disappoints. I don't see how a "sworn enemy of lying" keeps having Hahn as a guest. Hahn's at the Hellman level, where every word is a lie, including "a" and "the".

My biggest complaint about Tucker is that way too many times he's lazy and doesn't do any homework before interviewing his guests (especially on greenie enviro projects) and he lets them get away with telling outrageous lies that could be easily disproven.

    Wow- I see just the opposite when I watch him. He calls out his guests. I suppose he has to make sure they don't walk out and end the segment prematurely, since, after all, he has to fill air time, but he usually goes right after them. It's true that some guests, like when he has Eric Swallwell on, or just so inane that every word they say is either wildly wrong or a clumsy partisan lie, and you have to pick your battles a little bit.

I think most lefties are naive enough to think that Democrat politicians actually believe what they're saying about women's rights, and the sisterhood will rally to them. At least, until the last couple of years they believed that.

    Possible reasons: normal embarrassment, intimidation by the perpetrator, difficulty of making the case, procrastination and denial, and even not wanting to hurt the career of someone they agree with politically.

    249 Good Morning from coffee country. Coffee is blooming in some fields now, and just doing "maintenance" picking to keep fields clean and reduce chance of infestations. There is no such thing as a "wrong" cup of coffee--- unless the cup is empty. I do know SOMEBODY is making money on coffee, but it's not producers. Getting less than 95 cents a pound for green coffee right now. Many small producers are tempted to switch to drug crops to survive in this climate.

    To do our blog loss; and if to live,
    The fewer morons, the greater share of honour.
    God's will! I pray thee, wish not one moron more.

    By Jove, I am not covetous for gold,
    Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost;
    It yearns me not if morons my garments wear;
    Such outward things dwell not in my desires.
    But if it be a sin to covet honour,
    I am the most offending soul alive.

    No, faith, my coz, wish not a moron from Ace of Spades.
    God's peace! I would not lose so great an honour
    As one moron more methinks would share from me
    For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more!

    Rather proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host,
    That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
    Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
    And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
    We would not die in that moron's company
    That fears his fellowship to die with us.

    This day is call'd the feast of NoVaMoMee.
    He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
    Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam'd,
    And rouse him at the name of NoVaMoMee.

    He that shall live this day, and see old age,
    Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
    And say 'To-morrow is the NoVaMoMee.'

    Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
    And say 'These wounds I had on NoVaMoMee day.'
    Old morons forget; yet all shall be forgot,
    But he'll remember, with advantages,
    What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
    Familiar in his mouth as household words-
    Charlie Brown's Dildo, Weiner and pudding cups,
    crossbows and longbows, The Cookbook and Mobys-
    Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.

    This story shall the good moron teach his son;
    And MoMee shall ne'er go by,
    From this day to the ending of the world,
    But we in it shall be remembered-
    We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
    For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
    Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,

    This day shall gentle his condition;
    And daywalkers in ONT now-a-bed
    Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
    And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks

    394 322---I've always heard that Orwell was a supporter of socialism, like so many in his time. It was communism that he opposed.

    But that's a distinction without a difference.

    --------------------------------------

    As Chesterton once said, "I might be a socialist too, if someone would please define it." A whole lot of people call themselves socialists or say they like it without any precise notion of what it is.

    There is no evidence that Orwell read Hayek's Road to Serfdom. It was widely read in post-war America --- Readers' Digest even put out a condensation for the masses --- but it didn't have much audience in the UK for a few years, around the time that Orwell croaked.

    But if Orwell HAD read it, he might have grasped that "democratic socialism" is actually a contradiction in terms and that maintaining the outward forms of "democracy" will not prevent the inexorable slide into totalitarianism.

    In any case, there is no doubt in my mind that Orwell would see the echoes of 1984 in the "democratic" Left today.

    395 How is Cowpocalypse coming along?
    Has AOC gone Rambo on those ruminating gas bags?

    And isn't just a little too convenient that a woman with a horse face and horse chompers is at war with horse's oldest enemy, the cows?

    396 I imagine the VaMoMe will have better reception than the TxMoMe so live blogging would be easier....
    TxMoMe is only a little over 8 months from now so start saving your hobo pelts now and plan accordingly....
