Some Super-Funny Stuff

Nathan For You is a stunt/prank show which disguises itself as a business rescue show. Nathan finds a business each week to "help." The advice he gives usually involves dubious interpretations of the law, unethical manipulation, and tricking the stupid, stupid media into giving his absurd business ventures free press. He cons the stupid, stupid media a lot.

They're not making any more episodes but here are some good ones.

Definitely watch one or two of these to see if you like his style of humor. Just a head's up: He already seems to be a socially-awkward, sneaky conniver, and on top of that, he plays those aspects of his personality up for the camera.

So your first impression is probably going to be: When did Ben Shapiro get a Comedy Central show?

But try to get past his very off-putting demeanor. He's doing it for the lulz. (Mostly.)

The first one is a pretty good entry. The set-up is dead-simple and the jokes are funny.

Definitely also check out the toy-maker one and "The Claw of Shame" stunt at the end.

The Problem: A caricature artist needs publicity and increased sales.

The Plan:Re-brand the caricature artist as an edgy insult comedy caricature artist who will deploy inappropriate sexual and racial slurs in his caricatures.

The Problem: A guy starting a new dating website needs more women to sign up.

The Plan: Because women are afraid they might be murdered or raped on dates, Nathan proposes a plan to make women feel safe on dates called "Daddy's Watching."

The Problem: A toy that a toy maker invented is very unpopular and doesn't sell.

The Plan: Use little kids' desire to not be seen as A Baby against them. Bully/manipulate little children into believing that if they don't have this toy, they are legally A Baby.

The last one isn't a business rescue prank, but a publicity stunt for himself.

Deciding that many magicians risk their lives doing escapes, he wants to up the ante and risk something worse than death-- being a registered sex offender if he doesn't escape a pair of handcuffs.

While he's escaping, a robotic claw will begin unzipping and taking down his pants and underwear. If he doesn't escape within 90 seconds, he'll expose himself to children in attendance, and a cop standing by will arrest him.

This is funny stuff, yo.

Impractical Jokers is different in that the four guys doing the show play the jokes on themselves and make themselves look like jackasses in front of the unsuspecting public.

Yep. Same here. I mean I am only looking to drop 15lbs. or so maybe 20. and I have done it before so I know what to expect. But man I miss real beer. A little better than Lowry's, but still doesn't address his being a complete sucker. Points for admitting he was preachy, but "rhetorically excessive" doesn't amount to "I was flat-out wrong and had my head stuck up my ass." Which is what he should have said.

I found Ali G. funny for about 7 minutes the first time I saw the gimmick, but by about the third fake-interview, it ceased being funny. And that was, what, 12 years ago? Then once Ali G. stopped being funny as a concept, Cohen tried changing up the format with Borat -- but frankly I just winced through the whole thing.

This type of humor has an extremely short shelf life. I think Sasha Baron Cohen basically burned through every drop of humor that could be extracted from humiliating unwitting subjects, and forever ruined it for everyone else.

Now this Nathan guy comes along and tries to revive the format and...well, for me, it just doesn't work. All the humor is gone.

269 Never had the pleasure of watching any of SBC's stuff. I think it is important for this type of humor to exists. It may seem imperfect to some. Fine. Does not have to be. This, the Onion, similar things. Otherwise comedy, irony will atrophy. If there are grains of funny, makes me happy. I hate crude garbage. Here Nathan is putting himself, not others in embarrassing situation. That is courageous... and funny.

I found Ali G. funny for about 7 minutes the first time I saw the gimmick, but by about the third fake-interview, it ceased being funny.

Yes. The one interview I recall was with Pat Buchanan, who saw through it immediately and played along. He was having more fun than Cohen.

279 My favorite part of Nathan for You is the episode with the Bill Gates Impersonator. He hired him to gin up business at a souvenir store in Hollywood to make it seem like the store attracted celebrities. The guy was even more awkward than Nathan and neither looked nor sounded anything like Bill Gates. Laugh out loud hysterical.
