A UPS man recently braved an icy pond to rescue a young dog trapped in the ice. Up until the end of the book, the Mary Sue comparison is pretty spot-on; yeah, the Yankee proves how much more advanced and smart he is than all these 6th-century rubes. But then at the end, what does he really accomplish? Nothing, except mass murder. That's all he's able to give these people. Plus, he's started to have a little appreciation for these values of medieval chivalry--which he then proceeds to destroy without really realizing it.
I think Twain started the book intending to thumb his nose at Merry Olde England straight through, but gradually became aware of the positive features of the culture he was attacking, while also starting to realize the Industrial Age could be really cold and barbaric itself at times. So the book came out with a split personality, as it were.
Just my two cents.

The tl;dr version is that two YouTubers, Andy Warski and Tonka Saw, had more than a few grievances between them. So an IRL mixed-MMA fight between them was arranged and was supposed to have taken place last Friday in Knoxville, TN. Tonka Saw, however, did everything he could not to fight without completely chickening out and didn't show up in Knoxville, while Andy did (and him and his friends had a great time it seems).
The lesson here is - if you're an "Internet Tough Guy" and have a chance to fight somebody in a sanctioned match, you'd *better* show up. Even better is that Tonka might be sued by Valor (the company that set up the fight) and there might even be legal sanctions against Tonka for fraud, as the names and ID between his contract signature and bloodwork did not match.

Huh, the title character always struck me as his era's version of a finger-wagging progressive. But it's been a while since I read it.
I think "Mary Sue" is generally defined as a character who comes out of nowhere and is super-talented and better than everyone at everything without having "earned" it or going through any kind of arc. See also, Rey in the new Star Wars movies. I'm not sure Connecticut Yankee fully qualifies, but I can see aspects of it.

I've been using it since it came out. Other liquids tear up the skin of my hands and i can't stand all the strong scents of all the others. Then there is the absolute great grease-cutting of Dawn.

No red until it's over 90% eaten ... the red comes from the sun refracting through the earth's atmosphere at the edges but that's much dimmer than the direct sunlight on the rest of the moon.

we went month to month some time back because we are getting out of here.
very new community, great location, beautiful site, however, they ran out of money when they were building. then rents never got to what they needed to make it profitable. now they are just renting to everyone they can.
lots of units are turning into flop houses. on bedroom five guys. even worse lots of those units are rented to guys that have a work truck and a personal truck so you have some huge box truck parked in a car slot and there are no slots for cars.
management does not want to do anything about any of this because they are desperate to get their hands on whatever cash they can to to the property.

What I can do, and have for a while now, is to buy it in the gallon bulk bottle at Sam's.
Then I decant it into "normal" size bottles for use at the sink.
I might not be able to deny P&G of *every* penny, but I can damn sure strive to ensure that they get the bare minimum possible.
Point is, having lived on a boat for seven years, I can assure you this. Dawn is the only USCG approved grease cutting product to deploy on a petrochemical spill on the water.
Plus, the EPA approves of it to de-oil wildlife fouled by oil spills.
Whatever it's made of, it works as nothing else does.
Someone needs to infringe on the patent?

I won't rent my apartments to Section 8. Too many headaches, plus they have some stringent requirements that I won't do to the apartments themselves. One of them is that you can't have a well if city water is available. Screw 'em. My tenants like the water and the fact that they don't have to pay anything but the cost of the electricity to pump it, which is minuscule.

Trump has been thwarted in his key immigration objectives by 1) Senate Dems 2) Senate GOP unwilling to force the Senate Dems ..... and some of their own caucus .... to walk the plank on any votes (or rather, many many votes, as used to be the SOP) on the issues 3) lawless judiciary (but that's a different matter).
"The people" just thrashed the GOP in the only polls that matter. If one is imagining a Reagan/1982 scenario on tax cuts, where the Dem caucus is split/coerced into some cooperation, it's not in prospect here.
Long boring discussion but one key aspect is that all of this takes place 2 months after it might have been useful, or 4 to 6 months after it might have been very useful (primaries, changing the GOP).

Little known fact: Anybody can request anybody else's DD214 as part of a FOIA request, as I understand it. Not the full monte will be provided, not the entire transcript, but it should contain dates and branch of service and enough info to put a rest to it, if he's a wannabe.
The sheet number of goofballs who claimed Viet Nam service, yet never served a day, is amazing. I was part of a deployment to retrieve American remains from Cambodia and Viet Nam in the 90s, and talking about it, people started freaking out. "You're too young to have been there!! Liar!!!" So it really hits a nerve.

Direct DOJ to follow strict reciprocity with "sanctuary" jurisdictions in terms of assistance and law enforcement priorities, exempting violent or national security cases (i.e. punish them), and to vigorously pursue prosecutions of state/local officials under relevant federal statutes. Also, push binding appropriations conditionality to reduce $$$ to lawless jurisdictions.
Making these top-line issues *before* the primaries and mid-terms at least would have created the possibility of changing the GOP and hurting the Dems.
It would have "politicized" the key issues that made him the nominee and the president. Does anyone recall the GOP having a theme or agenda 2 months ago, during that little thing called an election? Or a record? Specifically on these vital issues? Didn't think so. Trump should have done everything possible to force and keep these things in the spotlight, placing maximum pressure on incumbents.
Separately (not strictly political): demanded immediate emergency SCOTUS review of ridiculous inferior court vandalism, starting with the first injunction on the first version of the admissions/travel EO, with the clear implication that repudiation would follow if he didn't get action, and approval. As outrageous as that episode was, things today are far worse in that department.

I have a bunch of lab work scheduled at the VA Friday, due to some symptoms that have developed as of late.
I've been around burn pits, depleted uranium, and God knows what else.
I fully expect not to live as long as my folks, hell, I'm surprised I made it to fifty.
I've already had one ovary removed due to it growing to the size of a cataloupe, and with my family history of various cancers, well, I've come to terms with that a while ago.
Eating a bullet should never be an option.

Now I spend too much time wondering whether I am losing it. Recovery in a hospital bed is a terrible strain on your memory - trying to piece together vaguely remembered, unfamiliar activities into something that makes sense. There were times when I gave up and said "that doesn't make any sense, it couldn't have happened".
The problem is not once you have dementia, it is the difficult period where you fear you are getting dementia and stop trusting your own mind, or the long prologue where you know that it is going to happen and there is nothing you can do to prevent it. Find somebody or something to focus on to get through periods like that.

If you have a PMP, they are hiring here (CAE), contractors for gummint jobs. As required, they have to make acomodation for physical/health issues.
The work is VA or Medicare transitions. Look into. My PMP instructor advised the, uh, non-Moronic students about gummint job things.

Used to upset me for the longest time, but now, it's a more detached curiosity.

"Congratulations" is contra-indicated to the bride, because it sort of implies or perhaps construed as "well, you finally found a man" or somesuch. This is out of a very old Etiquette book, that is surprisingly or maybe not so surprisingly full of quite good advice on all sorts of social settings and how to not act like a clod. Some things are very subtle and won't be picked up on necessarily, by people who don't know about such things. They won't hurt your standing with those who do, it won't offend anyone that matters if you're tactful (heh) right?

I have worked in sales for many years. 1) stoicism is a must! Being told NO or FUCK OFF is part of the job. 2) Same goes for competitiveness. You have to want to win the Sell. 3) As for dominance and aggression, you need the latter to stand toe to toe with you boss or company to get the deal your CUSTOMER deserves.
So an entire semi-medical industry has written me (and many like me) off as bad, toxic, and possibly even harmful for women for just existing!

Fairly certain he is not a Vietnam Vet. He is most likely like dick "Sgt Rock" blumenthal, a Vietnam era Veteran. He is only 2 years older than I am and I enlisted the minute I turned 18 and missed the War by almost 4 years.
Granted he could have lied about his age to enlist.

It would be so great somehow we could track the randon assholery of J-students. Hopefully that might inspire some youngsters into a more honest and honorable profession, like prostitution.
BTW, I notice that the coverage of those kids and that Indian guy did a 180 once the school noted that it was considering some MSM lawsuits.
Maybe prostitution is reaching a bit too high for J-students....
