Google Gay Extremists Melt Down Over the Use of the Word "Family," Outraged That It Implies "Children," Which Is Even More #Triggering Than "Family"

It was also bitter childless semi-heterosexual cat-lady women who for some reason want credit for having children despite not in fact having children.Google employees melted down after the word "family" was used in a company presentation, documents obtained by TheDCNF show. Employees were upset that the word was used in a way that links families with children, which they argued was homophobic. A Google vice president acknowledged that the word "family" had sparked "concerns" about inclusivity. A Google executive sparked a fierce backlash from employees by using the word "family" in a weekly, company-wide presentation, according to internal documents obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation. Many Google employees became angry that the term was used while discussing a product aimed at children, because it implied that families have children, the documents show. The backlash grew large enough that a Google vice president addressed the controversy and solicited feedback on how the company could become more inclusive. TheDCNF received the documents from a source who insisted upon anonymity in order to share them. One employee stormed out of the March 2017 presentation after a presenter "continued to show (awesome) Unicorn product features which continually use the word 'family' as a synonym for 'household with children,'" he explained in an internal thread. That employee posted an extended rant, which was well-received by his colleagues, on why linking families to children is "offensive, inappropriate, homophobic, and wrong." He wrote:If you want to say "My gay boyfriend," say "my gay boyfriend." Don't use the word "family" when you only mean "my gay boyfriend." "Family" has always implied children. If someone's just speaking of a sex-partner or a spouse, they don't need the collective noun "family" to refer to a single person. You fucking narcissistic brain-damanged c*nts.
This is a diminishing and disrespectful way to speak. If you mean "children", say "children"; we have a perfectly good word for it. "Family friendly" used as a synonym for "kid friendly" means, to me, "you and yours don't count as a family unless you have children". And while kids may often be less aware of it, there are kids without families too, you know. The use of "family" as a synonym for "with children" has a long-standing association with deeply homophobic organizations. This does not mean we should not use the word "family" to refer to families, but it mean we must doggedly insist that family does not imply children. Even the sense, "suitable for the whole family", which you might think is unobjectionable, is totally wrong too. It only works if we have advance shared conception of what "the whole family" is, and that is almost always used to mean a household with two adults, of opposite sex, in a romantic/sexual relationship, with two or more of their own children. If you mean that as a synonym for "suitable for all people" stop and notice the extraordinary unlikelihood of such a thought! So "suitable for the whole family" doesn't mean "all people", it means "all people in families", which either means that all those other people aren’t in families, or something even worse. Use the word "family" to mean a loving assemblage of people who may or may not live together and may or may not include people of any particular age. STOP using it to mean "children'. It's offensive, inappropriate, homophobic, and wrong.
Roughly 100 other Google employees upvoted the post, signaling their agreement. Other Google employees also echoed their displeasure with the term. "Thanks for writing this. So much yes," one wrote. "Using the word 'family' in this sense bothers me too," wrote another employee, who felt excluded by the term because she was neither married nor a parent.Neither married nor a parent -- so, legally single and without children. But still wants to be included in the word "family" anyway.
"It smacks of the 'family values' agenda by the right wing, which is absolutely homophobic by its very definition," she wrote, adding: "[I]t's important that we fix our charged language when we become aware of how exclusionary it actually is. As a straight person in a relationship, I find the term 'family' offensive because it excludes me and my boyfriend, having no children of our own."The word "squadron" excludes you or your boyfriend, because you have no planes. Perhaps the Air Force should be forced to stop using the homophobic, exclusionary word "squadron" as well?

Way back when SSM was being pushed, one of the organizations behind the push, Beyond Marriage, stated in it's charter the aim was to redefine marriage as all sorts of bonds. Not just two same-sex people, but more than two people, related people (e.g. siblings), and people who had no romantic bond to take advantage of married/family benefits.
So, I find this amusing that after years of working really, really hard to redefine "family" they've gone and decided it's no longer an acceptable word. Can we assume that this signals their defeat in redefining the word?

This is part of the problem with Gillette -- their marketing director and maybe more higher-ups are Indian. They did not grow up as Americans and do not sympathize with us.
I've begun my boycott of Gillette and P & G products like Swiffer, Vicks, and Old Spice. My razors are vintage Gillettes, but my soaps and creams are, and my future purchases of razor blades will be, non-Gillette.

But they can't take care of themselves (see mine, Logan, who has yet another vet visit today). You can't leave them alone for days with a food dish and a water dish. Dogs are an anchoring reality. Logan is eternally a 4 year old, mentally.
But cats are good too. They're cute and soft and they have that female quality that makes you want to chase their approval and affection. They're very different from dogs and, typically, lighter when they sit in your lap.

I used to be into woodworking and there were all sorts of guides and oils to keep your bevel at 14 degrees or something but nobody ever said sharpen your chisel with a baseball glove.

When I looked at "examples" from other firms, all I saw was a bunch of crap that was as bland as dishwater. It all looked the same. understandable. But their high end disposables like the Flex Four have
been great to me. Coming from wet shaving and having used Schick and
the Gillette Mach three in the past, I don't miss any of it. Wet
shaving has its purpose for sure, but I am happy with the simple Bics.
Again, not talking the cheapo single blade stuff they used to make and
maybe still do. The ones I am talking about are about $7 for a pack of
three.

You're not "sharpening" so much as straightening the edge of the blade. Depending on the strop you might have some abrasive to remove a small amount of material, but not much.

I'm a knife freak, and leather strops are where it's at for maintaining a blade. Of course, they need to be resharpened after use - or even reprofiled if you want a mirror edge. That's where a fixed angle system comes in, because me and freehand stopped getting along decades ago.
A good leather strop and some Smurf Poo.

Even the sense, "suitable for the whole family", which you might think is unobjectionable, is totally wrong too.
So he admits a family may contain children, though he insists it doesn't imply children. Fine. So he admits there are 2 types of families: ones with kids, ones without.
But since google is talking about a child based product, it is clearly referring to the type of family with kids. There's no ambiguity, no intent to "exclude" other families.
This is as silly an owner of a house with a stucco or brick exterior getting offended by an ad for house paint BECAUSE WE MUST DOGGEDLY INSIST THAT "HOUSE" DOES NOT IMPLY THAT THE EXTERIOR IS PAINTED!
And while kids may often be less aware of it, there are kids without families too, you know.
Kids in families is the norm. Their parents are their protectors, educators and care givers. "Family friendly" gives them assurance that the product is conforms to what they desire best for their kids. To deny parents this assurance just because there are the unfortunate cases of orphans is ridiculous.
I suspect the real motive here is to decouple the notion of children from the notion of families. That's just cruel and destructive to society when we look at the statistics for no-parent or single-parent families vs. families with both biological parents. But these people are narcissistic assholes.

I feel your use of the term electrician in one of your job descriptions that pays way more than my job, excludes me from the the discussion. Although i didn't receive any training and don't have any of the proper certifications, I still would like to consider myself to be an electrician. The hone does the bulk of the sharpening work. The strop just finishes the honed edge. Stropping a sharp razor after each use, after it has been thoroughly dried, maintains the edge far longer than not stropping it but cannot replace periodic honing. Of course this all really only applies to carbon steel blades and not stainless, which is too hard in most cases to rehone worth a crap.

If you read the Damore lawsuit, you get an idea of how contrary to normal business practice Google is.
First, they encourage employees to discuss all manner of personal and political stuff on various intranet bulletin boards. They encourage employees have 'brown bag discussion' on all sorts of personal/non-business topics. SO you have Pat posting daily on her trans-dragon life, Chris having brown bag discussions on wage inequality and climate change. That sort of thing.
As if this is not bad enough, they then have HR reprimanding people, even firing them (see: Damore) for holding incorrect ("unsafe," "offensive") opinions on all sorts of lifestyle and political topics. One guys was reprimanded for expressing interest in a brown bag discussion on parenting, IIRC.
How is this legal?!?
And then, even worse - how is that possible, right? - they have team leads, executives singling out people publicly for these "offensive" opinions and announcing they will not have said offenders on any future project teams.
Again: How is this legal?!? How can a CP of engineering publicly shame a guy for wanting a parenting discussion group? How can a team lead announce he/she will not ever allow a Trump supporter on a project team?
Why is the EEOC or NLRB not up their a$$ auditing them right now????

Aside from smoke, it sounds like a great place to *live*! I was thinking about Boise for when I retire, or have to retire. Are there college jobs like office manager available in CdA?
And do people there understand about air-conditioning? 20 years ago in Denver it seemed like a large chunk of the population, including businesses, disdained A/C as "some newfangled idea from back East." But when it gets to be 100 F., I don't care how dry it is, you need A/C.

That kind of isolation is a very dangerous thing for people in marketing, especially when they are tasked with selling products used by consumers who do not share the "elite"'s bubblespace.

I truly felt sorry for him in being enabled in an upbringing, and by a culture, that rewards him for behaving in a caricature of "feminine" behavior, and in such a way as he has apparently no self-reliance or resilience, or sense that he might benefit from being more self-reliant.
I thought about how much harder his life is going to be, and that he will probably never know the joy of raising strong young boys to be strong young men. Sad.

1. Have each employee run the company for 1 week. Then they can see how frivolous their little outbursts really are.
2. Have a rolling government-type shutdown through each business unit. Like, tell 25% of the staff to not show up for a month. Next month, have another 25% staff not show up, bring the first group back. When you've gone through the whole unit, see which ones didn't make a fuck bit of difference whether they were in or out. Then fire the fucking lot of them.
