A California judge has ruled that American cops can’t force people to unlock a mobile phone with their face or finger. I owned a couple of saabs in the past and they weren't cheap to maintain. But nothing like a BMW or Porsche. 2006-8 Porsches have a design flaw that causes a small percent of engines engines to blow up. The after market fix for that design flaw, costs about $5K. A new engine if you take the chance and don't get the fix is $20K.

Said they were the coolest guys on earth but if you fucked with them they'd literally cut you to pieces. He related a story about watching them attack a Japanese position-- afterwords, another guy told him they'd found the ground in front of the position covered with the Gurkha's rifles. There is no difference under the law. The judge can order you to give the password or submit to the biometrics. The only difference is the practical one. They can hold you down and force you to give the fingerprints, etc, but they can't actually force you to give them the password.
So, the judge finds you in contempt and throws your ass in jail until you give in. He can afford to wait you out. He can be stubborn and go home and sleep in his own bed at night, while your stubbornness means sleeping in a jail cot. That is, if you are lucky and don't get stuck sleeping on the floor next to the toilet because they are overcrowded and don't have enough cots.

I had several its predecessor - the more reliable 850. Nice car. Liked it a lot. One ate an auto trans. The next two were sticks and the reliability soared. But they do eat lightbulbs like they're going out of style and the need for and severity of repairs wasn't much if any greater than my subsequent Hyundais, but the average price was eye-watering.

It's a lost battle because of the legal POV that it is not a violation of the 5th to compel you to give the password. I think that's wrong, but if you start with the premise that they are entitled to force you to give the password, then the contempt rulings make sense. The judge gives an legally valid order, you disobey, he hits you with contempt until you knuckle under.

So today Robin (youngest sister) and I went to visit Mr. Empire. He is looking MUCH better than when he collapsed Sunday, and they have him sitting in a chair and walking (with a walker at the moment, rather than his usual cane). That was a major relief to me, I can tell you!
He's also talking better, as long as he doesn't try to speak too quickly (at which point, "tongue gets over eye teeth, and can't see what I'm trying to say", but as the deyhdration continues to improve, I'm hoping that will also resolve itself.
Folks, do yourselves and the rest of the Morons a favor, and keep hydrated! I went through this last Christmas, now it's Mr. Empire, and before that it was Ace. Dehydration is Really Serious Business, and can be fatal ... so do yourselves and the rest of us a favor -- keep drinking anything that won't DEhydrate you. Now she wants to seize tomorrow with her flag pillow.

I have an old BMW X3, and it is surprisingly fun to drive, and I just love the engine (the transmission sucks though). And I also have a great BMW garage (not a dealership) that does great and reasonably-priced work.
But for fuck's sake...they are just stupidly expensive to maintain. If I ever buy another one it will be new, probably a lease, and I will dump it the day it is off warranty.
Oh...the loaner the dealer gave me when they did some recall work was a low-end 330...or whatever. It was a piece of shit.

they are both ridiculously expensive to maintain but if you do maintain them they will last forever.

He said he lost his butt on every German car except an Audi or a VW.
Guy made a lot of money and is now living in Hawaii, and walks the beach every day for entertainment. His wife manages the 3 rental houses.

there were three accidents in a 10 mile stretch.
middle accident was only two cars. dodge ram and mercedes c class. the first and third smashups were so bad that no one even bothered with the little two car incident.
when were were driving by at 5mph the tristar from the mercedes grill was lying in the middle of the express lane with one leg broken.

You can already set up your iPhone to auto-wipe if the wrong password is entered ten times in a row, and you can set up your iPhone so you can wipe it remotely, upon your signal.
Doesn't seem like much of an extension to have an app that would wipe your phone if a certain amount of time had passed since a valid login. So, if you don't log in for twelve hours, say, the phone auto-wipes.

Only the Benz suffered a cracked cylinder head at 235k ish miles. And that was due to a failed thermostat, not an inherent flaw in the head itself.
One 735i BMW ate it's driveshaft center-bearing. That one required a drive shaft rebuild, which as I recall, cost about $300 in 1995 dollars, vs. a new BMW shaft and bearing, at roughly $1,200.
That's about as bad as it got on expenditures. The Benz (300d), cried out for all new vacuum lines, but I really didn't need the pneumatic door locks or cruise control that badly.
I'd kill for a "new" 1978 Toyota Corolla SR-5. With air conditioning, cruise and no other power accessories.
If anyone knows of a more dependable ride than were those, I'd love to know about it.

Of course, but there's nothing I can physically do to help him in the hospital (except maybe warn the nurses about his smart-alecky sense of humor, which is back in full force)! The pets need fed, and I'm taking advantage of stress/boredom to do a spring cleaning a bit early. The download needs no attention except for re-starting it in the morning and shutting it down before bed.
So I spend 3-4 hours a day with him, then come back home to do maintenance and prepare for his return.
Which reminds me -- need to check the level in the propane tank tomorrow.

I think this is where the Left is going. The Constitution is too constraining, and if they get enough power, they intend to jettison the Constitution, without going through that pesky amendment process.
They'll just announce the inauguration of the Second American Republic, and come up with a new set of guiding laws that they find more congenial.

Mahomes Pop was a pro baseball player. He told the kid and taught the kid how to act when you lose, and when you win.

Or it could just be that what they believe to be bigotry is just plain old dislike at first sight of other people with no cause ignited by their skin color. It happens.
When someone is watching for bad behavior, it's usually easy to find or at least claim they found it.
And since humans are not perfect nor universally likable, it's quite possible certain races have traits that other races find objectionable.
The notion of equality is misconstrued. All persons should have equal opportunity but since humans are faulty, that is not guaranteed. Just like justice is not guaranteed.
Equal outcome cannot be guaranteed without threat of violence brought about by oppressive regulation. And even then many will disagree with the outcomes.
Meanwhile so many are oppressed unto death it becomes obvious that guaranteed equal outcomes can never be worth the price paid by too many.

Only the Benz suffered a cracked cylinder head at 235k ish miles. And that was due to a failed thermostat, not an inherent flaw in the head itself.
One 735i BMW ate it's driveshaft center-bearing. That one required a drive shaft rebuild, which as I recall, cost about $300 in 1995 dollars, vs. a new BMW shaft and bearing, at roughly $1,200.
That's about as bad as it got on expenditures. The Benz (300d), cried out for all new vacuum lines, but I really didn't need the pneumatic door locks or cruise control that badly.
I'd kill for a "new" 1978 Toyota Corolla SR-5. With air conditioning, cruise and no other power accessories.
If anyone knows of a more dependable ride than were those, I'd love to know about it.

Our transportation module is an 01 Camry with the requisite bells and whistles--my wife's car, she loves it. There's no rust yet ( I watch the body carefully plus keep it super clean underneath) with 140k and meticulous maintenance no reason to divest.
My ride is an 87 Dodge Ramcharger nicely equipped, with a 5.9 V8 and not one iota of rust. Doesn't EVER see road salt.
The fun car is the Road Runner. My toy.

Makes sense - we have been inundated with piecemeal denunciations of parts of the Constitution since Trump was elected - it makes sense that eventually this would all meld into a fundamental denunciation of the document.
I'm sure the argument will be that the Constitution gives small states too much power, and it is impossible to fix that through the amendment process (since small states can block amendments), so the Constitution as a whole needs to be annulled.
Reading through the left-wing denunciations of the Senate and Electoral College, one would never guess that seven of the ten most populous states voted for Trump, and five of the ten least populous states voted for Hillary.

Then in almost down home way he would say, something like "but, you know that was written a really long time ago and you really cannot expect any document to go unchanged that long and meet the needs of the people.", or some variation thereof.

Meh. They saw you coming. Cut back the corroded battery cable to where it is good (usually less than a foot), and splice a new end on it. There are mechanical splices made for that purpose. Install an Optima battery, which is unlikely to leak, about $140, and you are done.

A few weeks ago, there was someone who posted something comparing Google searches to the other engines, with something like "Hillary email" or something like that, can't remember exactly.
All the other search engines brought up the Hillary investigations in some sort of order, Google didn't even bring them up at all, even when the entire negative phrase was typed.
Pretty obvious to anyone with an IQ bigger than their shoe size that Google searches are crooked and Leftist.

Both Gillette and Red Lobster got nasty grams and scathing online reviews today from moi. Not not that they care. Still it makes me feel better.
Did we ever decide on a razor alternative? I've used Gillette for decades. Harry's went full homo. Anybody use Shave Club? Otherwise I suppose it's Schick or Bic for local purchase or ? online

I use Shave Club, it's not bad, the blades do dull faster but because they're so cheap I still save a ton of money over Soyette. I tried the triple blade razor but the single blade does the job better as it seems to give a closer shave.
Plus you havent lived until you've tried a One Wipe Charlie.

MoMe, there are quite a few lurkers in east Washington and Idaho. Posters are mostly Wet Side as far as I know. Plus some kind of a big deal posters are trapped Behind Enemy Lines in west Oregon...
Barbasol is excellent shaving cream never a wrong choice. The higher-end version of gillette's twin-blade has worked well for me for many years. As good as anything more expensive. The cheaper versions do not do as good a job for me. Lots of scrapes and nicks. Of course it may not be the razor's fault. It may be the hideous pustules and suppurative gangrenous erosions due to infection by The Warp that leaves my skin so easily damaged.
I have an occasional use a straight razor for fun but not practical for use in the shower for speed cleaning to get the day started
Just put on the best of Patsy Cline to listen to while hoisting a drink and winding down with you good peoples. I hadn't listened to this for a while.

So far, it's been enhanced with every moving part in the front suspension being replaced as preventative maintenance.
Engine had a bit of oil leakage here n' there, so as a result, every gasket in the engine, renewed.
Transmission rebuilt, too.
New pads, rotors and tires, and at the same time, a full four-wheel alignment.
It's an UGLY truck, paint baked in the unrelenting Texas sun.
Runs though. Goes down the road as straight as an arrow.
And all while flying under the radar, because "ugly truck".
Same technique I've practiced as an individual, since *cough* a long damn time now.

For several years now I've used some heavy stainless safety razor, either a Merkur or cheaper knock-off, with Feather blades (sort of an Axis shaving system, if I use an Italian shaving cream ....). Domestic brand of shaving soap, with badger-bristle brush.
And I stockpiled so many disposables from hotels during past travel-heavy years that I use those at the gym and pool.

If it is the same machine that I am thinking of, it is made in England. An associate and myself were negotiating a few years ago to bring the machine to the US, but they wanted to control the sourcing of the ingredients, even their specially cut boxes.
They were going to make more money off the boxes than the machines and parts. Needless to say, my associate and I have been around a pro-forma spreadsheet or two, and passed on the deal.

This is not unlike certain preachers and the "prosperity message".
I know of one, who in the late '70s, was cautious as to this, and taught James 4:3 "Ye ask, and receive not, because you ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
But now he flies Lear Jets, and teaches "Name it and Claim It", as it seems to be a far more effective in the filling of his mega TV church coffers.
Peterson isn't fully unlike said preacher. Much of what he teaches is truth, but undermined by the corrosive soul of collectivism, which like the sin of materialism....like the core of all sin, actually... is selfishness.

Important repeat important call ahead and make sure they are open or open the day you are going and get the exact hours. listed hours are simply a suggestion and they may or may not actually be there. it's in the butt hole of nowhere and easier to just stay there overnight unless the open hours coincide well enough for you to get back and forth to Carson City or similar... it's been a few years so I suppose your mileage may vary but well worth the experience just check closely unavailability.

Heh, I remember when I saw my first real electric service. I worked with a local electrical contractor all through college during the summer. It was natural, because electric power systems are one of my favorite things. I love it like a ficus.
Anyway, I had only seen dinky residential services, and I was soon confronted with a 5000A 480V service for the local Sherwin-Williams plant in Fountain Inn.
I saw a 5000A main breaker for the first time, and a 5000A switchboard. There were current limiters before the breakers on that switchboard. The fault current of the transformer,coming off its on little substation for the plant, well it was a wee bit more than 10kA. They make breakers with 100kA+ fault withstand and interrupting capacity, but they ain't cheap.
I stood there in awe, and my boss laughed his ass off, saying I was worshiping the thing.....
Then I did like it was a ficus....

Do not really have much to comment on. Got new a new prescription done a couple weeks ago. The glasses came in first. I had had the last prescription (contact) for a good ten years. Now, this is the first time I have worn glasses for longer than a couple hours since I got contacts, which was *coughthirtyyearsagocough*.
It is amazing how bad my vision got without noticing a huge difference until I had something to compare it to- especially driving at night. 'Has it always been this bright?' 'Were those lights always there?'
It is kind of funny. To me at least. Plus even with the heavy prescription, they managed to get the glasses light as hell, so they are comfortable.

My wife never went through any of that. But from Day One of our marriage she has never been satisfied with the temperature. I've asked her repeatedly the exact temperature she is comfortable at. Just give me a number. There is no correct answer. It is always either too hot or too cold.

As a former court clerk, I can tell you that too many otherwise good Americans do everything they can to get out of jury duty. It's really not fair to the litigants to be left with the dregs of society deliberating their case.
I understand how difficult it is for the self-employed because they truly suffer financial hardship, but for the rest of us, we should just be honest and serve if chosen.
Who would you rather have on a jury judging you? AOC or Ace?
