This final straw came about during the Kavanaugh hearings where he saw them do what they do without a twinge of concern for the country or for a man's reputation.
The Democrats lost a lot of ground they had gained over the years with that hearing. They thought they could Bork/Thomas him and no one would say anything. They forgot we've been stewing for 30 years over those attacks.

I was also rather annoyed that I schlepped from NJ to VA on election day 2012 to volunteer for Mitt, only to find out through reading in the next days that Mitt had an incompetent data operation that may have cost him dearly in the election (although who knows what kinda spy/sabotage/blackmail ops the Obama administration was engaging in that may have contributed to lackluster effort, etc...granted, this is just an hypothesis, but not implausible given Lois Lerner, the Steele Dossier, etc.).

I don't know about that. I'm from Nevada originally. There was a large percentage of population that were Mormons, but I don't remember them being particularly powerful other than Senator Reid. At that time, the casinos and the unions seem to run things. Now the Hispanic community has grown into a pretty formidible political power. IDK. I left there in 1996, for the greener grass of Oregon. Fortunately I live far away from Portland and all the homeless camps and Antifa riots.

Just a guess but it may have less to do with Romney himself as it does with the cultivated impression of all-American, wholesome, patriotic and yes, conservative lifestyle the LDS has long promoted, much more so than Catholics, evangelicals or anyone else can lay claim to doing...like, as a marketing tool, as commercials they put out used to portray this.

Well, I have never said anything negative against Mormons here. In threads that go on and on about "magic underwear" and such I don't get into that. I would have some disagreements as to theology, but my point was what it was. And yes, if I thought several political people cared about their faith I probably would mention that if one of them seemed to be dying and they were meeting together.

I agree, but, I think most people here that dislike Romney chose to point out that he's a Mormon as their specific reason. Even if it's half humerous.
Very seldom do people say, well Schumer and so and so are both Jews, or Pelosi and so and so are both Catholics - without saying it in utter disgust.

With Romney, he seems (especially given the shiv he just jammed in Trump's ribs) to be at least inconsistent if not a hypocrite *by conservative Mormon standards as I understand them.* However, I'll let a conservative LDS tell me if that's accurate or not, if one wants to.
