The Morning Rant: J.V. Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

Ace is correct...they hate us and everything we stand for and believe in and want for our families and our country. It's difficult not to assume that when their vitriol is so obvious and so poorly hidden. They believe -- truly believe! -- that they are on the correct side of history; that their world-view is ascendant, that concepts that the founders depended upon in the creation of America are outdated and incapable of guiding the country.

Victor Davis Hanson eviscerates them here, and his perspective is based on a profound understanding of the real arc of history...the one in which statists and anti-freedom zealots build reeducation camps and gas chambers.

A License To Hate

Recently on CNN, former Republican politico and now Never Trump cable new[s] analyst Rick Wilson characterized Donald Trump’s supporters as his “credulous rube ten-toothed base.”

Wilson was not original in his smear of the 63 million Americans who voted for Trump. He was likely resonating an earlier slander of Politico reporter Marco Caputo. The latter had tweeted of the crowd he saw at a Trump rally: “If you put everyone’s mouths together in this video, you’d get a full set of teeth.”

Was the point of these stereotypes that poor white working-class people who supposedly voted for the controversial Trump understandably ate improperly, did not practice proper dental hygiene, or did not visit dentists—or all three combined?

When challenged, Caputo doubled down on his invective. He snarled, “Oh no! I made fun of garbage people jeering at another person as they falsely accused him of lying and flipped him off. Someone fetch a fainting couch.”

Caputo’s “Garbage people” was also a synonym for the smears that two career FBI agents on separate occasions had called the archetypical Trump voters.

It goes on, and is well worth a read. What fascinates me is the easy contempt of the very people who have made their lives immeasurably better..the factory workers and wheat farmers and literal garbage men and the plumbers and electricians and carpenters and the guy who cheerfully plows their roads at 2:00am during blizzards...

These are the soft-handed pseudo-men who love the Gillette commercial and wax poetic about inside-the-beltway inanities, but can't change a tire or cook a meal or hammer a nail.

The sad thing about these people is that they feel contempt for the everyman, but the everyman doesn't feel contempt for them. There are plenty of factory workers and ditch diggers in the thread below, looking at some art and appreciating it, but how many NYT columnists have ever changed a washer or shot a deer or dug a ditch?

The modern super SJW commercial has been around for a while, it's only now that men, and especially white men, are woke enough to notice. Such men may have been more forgiving if elites from Whitehall to Washington weren't accelerating hard on their campaign of "blame the white man," as if that strategy hadn't tanked enough in 2016.

They may succeed in disposing of the most successful President since Washington, but doing so retains a horde of intelligent and/or handy men that have been completely relegated from society. What happens when they correctly realize they are the enemy in occupied America?

20 From the VDH piece:
Rep. Hank Johnson (who on prior occasions had referred to Jewish residents on the West Bank as "termites," and believed that too many American troops based on the shoreline of Guam might "tip" the island over and capsize it) recently compared Trump to Hitler, and characterized Trump's supporters - which included 90 percent of the Republican Party - as "older, less educated, less prosperous, and they are dying early. Their lifespans are decreasing, and many are dying from alcoholism, drug overdoses, liver disease, or simply a broken heart caused by economic despair."

Nice to know that the Democrat Party, in their own words, are now the party of the rich. Revel in it. Wallow in it. Shout it from the rooftops - both this example and the myriad others.

Good scenario? They check out and we are left with an impoverished land where most things are broken most of the time. Bad scenario? General social breakdown and probably a war. A "soft secession" is also possible (where certain states just tell the FedGov to pound sand and refuse to implement their diktats), but I suspect that leads to the "war" outcome eventually.

Will Trump being ousted cause this? I'm not sure and I sort of suspect it probably won't. It will be a flying leap down that road, though.

I'm really confused. I thought the democrat party was made up of all the poor, downtrodden, government dependent individuals whom without the Dems, would be dying on the streets when they were locked out of hospitals due to no health care, and were having to eat out of trash cans because Republicans were taking away their "safety nets'' of food stamps , child care, utitlity payments, phone service, etc.

Posted by: Jen the original at January 17, 2019 11:16 AM (bLfL5)

42 So, It's my understanding (I haven't verified it of course) that the Government Shutdown is actually going to impact some people in another couple of weeks, when some of the welfare checks or food stamps, or housing checks or something are not going to be delivered.

Hate to be a Democrat for a generation after the 'poor' figure out that the Democrats caused them actual pain because they didn't fund .1% of the budget because they had to protect illegal aliens. Yes, black people, or whatever we're supposed to call them, who are in a multi-generational state of poverty and depend on government are going to be stiffed by Democrats for the sake of ILLEGALS. All other colors of poor people will be similarly mad, but might not have the same reaction as the underclasses in the ghettos of major Democrat run cities.

LTCM is a neat encapsulation of so many things:
1) Faith in computers to make the "right" choice and blind faith in what the "algorithm" vomits out. This is pretty common now.
2) "Backstops" or "bailouts" in the form of shotgun marriages to keep a big financial player from falling. (See also: the Continental Illinois debacle and the FDIC moving from depositor insurance to bondholder insurance with nary a whisper)
3) The love affair with foreign markets despite the risks (after all, see number 2)

LTCM was a farce and it should never have been bailed out. It was somewhat distinct in that there was little if any criminality (just a whole lot of stupid), but the reaction was 180 degrees opposed to "right."

57 Yao. A sutler had moved cautiously down the trail. Scouts reported to Sun-In-His-Hair.
"He is on our land," one said. "The white trader is loud. He points, then points to his teeth, then laughs. He mocks," said another.
"Always he shows his mirror and points it to our face and then laughs," said a third.
Sun-In-His-Hair sighed. They were young men, and proud, and they had proven themselves, and they did not take insult well. They must be allowed to measure their anger against their action. "Do what you must to retain your honor," he told them.
Later that day, the body of the sutler was brought to Sun-In-His-Hair by an older warrior. "We found him on the trail," said the man.
The sutler's mouth was a gaping smile, opened at either end with a knife. Where his teeth had been, there were none left. They had been gouged out and tied into a leather satchel that hung limply around his neck. What the whites called a 'tooth-brush' protruded lewdly from the dead man's backside.
"Yao." Sun-In-His-Hair said. "Boys will be boys."

There will be a very, very large segment of the population for whom Trump's "removal from office" will in a sense not be possible:

If they move to remove him from office, it will be THEIR offices which are forfeit.

I will continue to recognize Trump as president of the Republic of which I am a citizen, and I will cease to recognize the Deep State as members of the government of that same Republic.

At which point, they may be considered a hostile insurrection, and not worth of the title "The Government".

I don't think there will be an immediate uprising of everyone who will fight. There will be a confused period where a nascent American Taliban forms. The reaction against them will almost certainly be extreme, then the real Bad Times will start.

Given trends, I don't expect the confusion to last long. Jordan Peterson and Ben Shapiro will of course condemn "white terror" far more harshly than they have done to any other group, but be real. The problem with having overt Quislings is that the target natives stop listening to them. Rebellions without focal points, like the gilles jaunes, are very difficult to stop.

The bad news is that such a society will go too far, and various minorities will absolutely take the brunt of the aggression.

92 Watched Rand Paul this morning on Maria B. He is going to a specialist clinic in Canada to have a hernia repair done. The hernia was part of his injuries caused by his neighbor attacking him a year ago.

Apparently, the left has been excoriating him for going to Canada to have his surgery. As usual, they don't have any information as to why he is going there and are simply running with their belief he is going there to get free treatment that he can't get in the USA.

Rand said he is going there because the surgery is serious and this particular clinic does thousands of these types of surgeries per year, whereas here in the States, the most experienced surgeons are only doing around 20 a year. This clinic is private and Paul will be paying for his treatment with cash, as it doesn't accept insurance. He said what was interesting is that due to the no third party payments to this hospital, his cost for this surgery is 1/3 what it would cost here in the states or in the Canadian system.

He said the attack resulted in six broken ribs which took months to heal since several ribs were separated, he had pneumonia twice and fluid around his lung once, and has this hernia that needs repaired. Said it's been a very long road to recovery, not to mention the fact that he was also at the baseball diamond shooting, where one of the congressional aids was shot just ten feet in front of him.

True story. When I was a teenager, a friend had both a driver's license and use of his mom's car so we went to a movie after school one day. It was snowing and he left the lights on so the battery died. Shit happens.

After getting a jump (hard to do, actually - people going to movies are usually keeping a schedule) from a couple of friendly lesbians, we set off. He pulled into a nearby mall and parked at the Sears and shut the car off. After about seven minutes. My other friend and I asked what the hell he was doing.
"The battery died. I need a new one."

Cue a ten-minute conversation wherein we laboriously explained the concept of the alternator.

Yes, of course. This is why the medical industry is deliberately non-competitive at best (often anti-competitive). Call up some local hospitals and try to get a price for a procedure. I recommend a bottle of bourbon and the patience of Job.

Well, there are a small number of exceptions that are true private, pay-go facilities and these are under attack everywhere and will not be permitted. Check out the one Oklahoma (I think it is called "Surgery Center of Oklahoma"). Oddly enough, you can easily prices from them. Go figure.

He was on Fox this morning and Brian Kilmeade (? I think) was asshatting at him a lot. Basically saying that if we take 2,000 guys out of Syria we're inviting another 9/11.

Paul kept his cool and also suggested that if we're going to be in a war for 18 years congress ought to say something about it.
Posted by: Bandersnatch at January 17, 2019 11:29 AM (fuK7c)

He was asked generally about the four servicemen killed in Syria and his meeting with Trump to discuss the next steps. She put up the very complimentary tweet Rand posted yesterday about his meeting with Trump and how proud he is of Trump for standing up for the American military against endless wars.

He said Trump wants to move the 2,000 troops to our base in Iraq, so that they are not in the situation they are in today, sitting in Syria between the Kurds and the Turks. He used the term sitting ducks right now. Said that if we are at war in Syria, then send 100,000 troops and be done with it. Otherwise, get these people out.

Agree totally with him.

Maybe. I would not maintain that I am emblematic, but in a recent confrontation with an offensively aggressive lawyer over a civil matter, I pointed out to her the legal and ethical mistakes (plural) that she was making, or was about to make.

These were a consequence of ineptitude and smugness on her part. As the conversation progressed, and I point-by-point indicated her errors, her shoulders began to sag, and she became subdued, unable to offer any rational response, and recognizing that she was 100% accountable for her screw ups, and was in a corner from which only I could extract her.

Where she really went wrong, and I am being absolutely forthright here, no exaggeration, or hyperbole, this is verbatim, when I first asked her if people like myself ever challenged her firm's actions, she replied 'Mostly older white males.'

At that moment, I knew that it was going to be an interesting conversation. Mind you, I already knew that she was in trouble, though she did not.

At any rate, as she sank into an obviously chagrined state, I began to feel sorry for her. I'm not an ogre, and I am adept at maintaining an even temper.

In the end, I let her off the hook. It's a problem that truly compassionate people (as opposed to virtue signalers, and those without morals) have.

156 I once read an economic history book used by the private college of Wofford. At the time just before the civil war 90% of the South's economy was based in someway by the plantation system and slaves. Now slavery is viewed as an evil system that can not be permitted in a modern society. But that was not the way most people looked at it then. And the radical abolitionists in MA were stomping hard to abolish slavery in the South.

And even today, there are still modern nations that practice slavery.

Now how would the North view it if radicals in the South were to call for laws abolishing 90% of the economy of the North?

178 Apparently, the left has been excoriating him for
going to Canada to have his surgery. As usual, they don't have any
information as to why he is going there and are simply running with
their belief he is going there to get free treatment that he can't get
in the USA.

Rand said he is going there because the surgery is serious and this
particular clinic does thousands of these types of surgeries per year,
whereas here in the States, the most experienced surgeons are only doing
around 20 a year. This clinic is private and Paul will be paying for
his treatment with cash, as it doesn't accept insurance. He said what
was interesting is that due to the no third party payments to this
hospital, his cost for this surgery is 1/3 what it would cost here in
the states or in the Canadian system.

He said the attack resulted in six broken ribs which took months to
heal since several ribs were separated, he had pneumonia twice and fluid
around his lung once, and has this hernia that needs repaired. Said
it's been a very long road to recovery, not to mention the fact that he
was also at the baseball diamond shooting, where one of the
congressional aids was shot just ten feet in front of him.

192 They believe -- truly believe!

You say those 2 things as if they were contradictory. I think they believe that reeducation camps and gas chambers is being on the correct side of history. Think of all the assaults carried out on politicians like Scalise or Paul, or people wearing MAGA hats or people beaten up by antifa or BLM, and how the media snickers over it. There's no difference between our current left and the Brown Shirts. And when you think about it, we already have reeducation camps. Public schools, colleges, sensitivity trainers and movies.

Rand Paul said this morning this is an incredible insult to the American people. He said Pelosi doesn't own the House of Representatives, it belongs to the American people and if she follows through with this, McConnell can invite him to deliver the address in the Senate chambers, with overflow for House members in the Rotunda.
Imagine the optics for Pelosi, who yelled at a reporter yesterday who repeated Kristian Nielson's statement that the Secret Service is fully staffed and is providing full security, that " I don't care what they say" .

I hope she does it. I hope she somehow tries to bar the American president from entering the House of Representatives.

When you and your thoughts are public "issues" i.e. to be made "better" through government coercion, this can only be called totalitarian.

I just signed up for "Real Vision". Great interview between Kyle Bass and Bannon ... there are big names that still seem to believe in America as a land of liberty for all, and are intricately aware of how we got here, and the current sellouts to China.

China has huge problems, but they still win since we have let them (or those elites have enabled them, and have profited at our expense)

I did hear something in there about the bailouts and that our derivative market guys were not dumb enough to let the whole China finance system into that "game". I don't know details well enough to understand ... kinda shadowy. He also noted that "sure, China now "opens their markets", and (fake) "free traders" might rejoice.

BUT ... Bass says "come on in, said the spider to the fly", because China has blown their own huge bubble ... many trillions, so sure they'll let investors buy in to that mess, with "real dollars".

A two state north American region would likely have lead to continual conflict, as we may yet experience. Had Washington founded a country in the form of the CSA, it would be little more praiseworthy than similar states in Latin America, Brazil being a great example. The accomplishment of wrapping up the conflict, which Lincoln can hardly be blamed for as he was not president when secession occurred, nor did he initiate the conflict, and moreover he was preceded by two Democrat administrations in a country where Democrats held power more often than not, is something rather great. 150 years of war does not particularly suit my taste and may any future such war be as brief.

249 Hey Rick Wilson,

My teeth are in bad shape, do you know why?

My mother got pregnant while she was attending SMU. My father was attending Law School. He would go on to become a very successful lawyer, campaign strategist, and would argue several cases before SCOTUS. He would settle us in the affluent neighborhood of Highland Park in Dallas, so that I would get a great education. See my parents were the first to attend college, their own fathers served in WW2, Army and Navy. And they were raised to appreciate the value of a decent education.

So, rather than abort me, they gave me to my grandparents to raise on their cotton farm in Rosenberg Texas, so that my parents could finish their degrees. Unfortunately, fluoride hadn't become common place in rural Rosenberg, so my teeth have always been yellow and prone to decay, despite the best dentists and orthadonists that money could buy.

I went on to college myself, joined the United States Marine Corps, and currently staff a committee on Capitol hill. But I have always been bullied about my teeth, been awkward all my life, afraid to smile to big Because of people like you.

I shouldn't be ashamed though, because it reminds me of where I came from and how far my family has come.

I would like to meet you for lunch, so that I can knock out all your teeth and feed them to you. When would you be available?

253 All of the talk about the left overthrowing Trump hinges on one simple thing. That thing being the idea that there will be no push back to the elites doing it.
The average Red state Trump voter knows how to use a fire arm and the average blue state lefty does not. Trump just needs to take a very firm action and have these coup plotters taken out and put up against the wall and shot by firing squad. Simple as that. If the left riots well just declare open season on leftist rioters. Close off the cities. No food, no water and no electricity until the rioting stops. Then just stand back and watch the self destruction. If the bureaucrats get feisty shoot them as well. Let the streets of DC run red with the blood of lefties. We could let them bath in it. We just need to let Trump get in touch with his inner Franco for awhile. This country would be better off.
Then once we did that take the schools back over and not let go.
