This (second) invitation arrive too late, however. The comedian has confirmed that he will not be reclaiming his position as the host of this year's ceremony. ... Kevin Hart is also done explaining or apologizing for those infamous tweets. "I am done with it. It gets no more energy," he said. "For the last time, I am done addressing this. There is no more conversation about it."It should be pointed out that while it was online scalp-hunters who got this ball rolling, it was the Academy who demanded of Hart that he make (another) futile apology or else step down. Hart did apologize -- against his wishes -- and the NPCs of course did not let up. So he stepped down. The Academy has one longshot hope left: because the Oscars are being broadcast on ABC this year, they're trying to strongarm the Avengers actors to do that Group Hosting thing they floated months ago. It now appears that the show, airing Feb. 24, won't have a traditional host, but instead will rely on a rotating cast of stars to introduce various segments. And to up the star quotient even further, the show's producers are currently lining up appearances by as many big-name castmembers from Marvel's sprawling Avengers franchise as possible. ... The Academy declined to comment, but word is that specific details are still being hammered out about how the actors who play the popular characters will be incorporated into the 91st Oscars ceremony... If the show's producers can pull off a such a Marvel-ous stunt, it could benefit all involved: the Academy (which would love to serve up a star-studded show), ABC (which could potentially reap ratings benefits if it has an opportunity to promote the Marvel teaming ahead of time) and Disney (which owns not only ABC, but also Marvel). Certainly, it would be a nice promo for Avengers: Endgame, which opens April 26.Yeah, Avengers: Endgame really needs promotion from the low-rated Oscars telecast. Cultural Appropriation? Why is ABC/Disney culturally appropriating a job that was intended to go to a black guy? Why are they normalizing the pressure-firing of a black guy? Does ABC/Disney and Marvel Studios hate black people? I mean, Black Panther had a low budget. The special effects of the horrible Mirror Match fight at the end looked like shit that a spotty 11th grader could do on After Effects. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

443 Good grief. Doug Schoen and the chubby chick guest on Fox Business just don't get this shutdown stuff. They are going on and on about how 'all Americans are losing' and 'why don't they just compromise'? Then the conservative guy pipes up and says, 'look, for the Dems, building a wall is non-negotiable. Schumer rejected the compromises Trump offered'. (That was a refreshing breath of air when he said that.) Fuck the Dems, hard, with large sideways pineapples. Oh, and apparently Trump is cancelling his trip next month to Davos because of the gubmint shutdown. A signal that he is preparing for a long siege, or master trolling? The popcorn is popping! I do sort of wonder if this is the beginning of the end of it. Not the Awards, but the power of the Mob. And I wonder if it will be wholly because they've started to target black men.
One of the remarkably racist conversations that I've had was with a woman who insisted that you couldn't treat Obama or Holder the same as all the white politicians because they were "proud." She wouldn't say it was because they were black... those words wouldn't come past her fingers on the keyboard, but they were "proud". (And a brilliant case of "code words" as I have ever seen.) But has anyone heard... was it Chris Rock? Eddy Murphy? Someone or other who was also targeted for decades old comedy routines... has anyone heard if whoever it was apologized? I hope not. I really do. But who knows... our entire culture might be saved in the end by "proud" men. Posted by: Julie Pascal at January 10, 2019 03:04 PM (BD/yx) 132

185 Observation: In the Commiewood of yore, before Blacklisting, there was Box Office Poison, which was what really gave Blacklisting its teeth.
Questions: Is there a feasible 21st century version of Blacklisting? Or is the foreign market so large now that anti-American dreck will always play well someplace overseas? Posted by: Curmudgeon at January 10, 2019 03:11 PM (ujg0T) Ack, I meant, is there anyway to reintroduce the concept of Box Office Poison to the Commiewood hacks today? I remember the year Chris Dorner was going on his rampage. They were sooo worried that Dorner was going to attack the Emmys. Remember, this is the same fiasco where they fired over a hundred shots at two elderly newspaper delivery women (and miraculously only wounded one). It was a huge success financially and critically. No one would have thought less of them for nominating it for Best Picture, but they passed on doing even that. The biggest grosser at that year's awards was The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (just over $100), although Slumdog Millionaire's win eventually helped it get over $140. Too bad there aren't any real comedians around to say that just don't give a shit. I can't imagine Johnny Carson putting up with this crap.

Slumdog Millionare was a worthy winner.
Posted by: Can't resist temptation at January 10, 2019 03:33 PM (0/zKO) ============ I love Slumdog. Posted by: TheJamesMadison, If you've read and enjoyed any of my works, please leave a review on Amazon. at January 10, 2019 03:35 PM (XSSCs) It was an excellent movie. But he should have missed the last answer and the chick should have jumped back in the car and left. BTW, she was the star of a decent series about nutcase 60s leftist terrorists in Britain. Bad ending but a series worth watching. I forget the name of it. Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair at January 10, 2019 04:25 PM (U96rM) 478
They should get Triumph the Insult Comic Dog to be the host.

I am thinking that the Academy can hire furloughed federal workers to MC. I mean, they couldn't do any worse than some of the other "talent" that has hosted recently!
