Oscars Will Reportedly Have No Host This Year, Due to Social Media Dragging of Kevin Hart; Oscars Committee Asks Kevin Hard to Re-Take Hosting Duties, But He Says "Nah, Brah"

Wow, no one wants to take a thankless gig where your big reward is being attacked by NPCs for jokes you made years ago?

Hart is being a man and telling the Oscars they can S his D.

The Academy eventually declared they would welcome him back with open arms. This (second) invitation arrive too late, however. The comedian has confirmed that he will not be reclaiming his position as the host of this year's ceremony.

...

Kevin Hart is also done explaining or apologizing for those infamous tweets. "I am done with it. It gets no more energy," he said. "For the last time, I am done addressing this. There is no more conversation about it."

It should be pointed out that while it was online scalp-hunters who got this ball rolling, it was the Academy who demanded of Hart that he make (another) futile apology or else step down. Hart did apologize -- against his wishes -- and the NPCs of course did not let up. So he stepped down.

The Academy has one longshot hope left: because the Oscars are being broadcast on ABC this year, they're trying to strongarm the Avengers actors to do that Group Hosting thing they floated months ago.

It now appears that the show, airing Feb. 24, won't have a traditional host, but instead will rely on a rotating cast of stars to introduce various segments.

And to up the star quotient even further, the show's producers are currently lining up appearances by as many big-name castmembers from Marvel's sprawling Avengers franchise as possible.

...

The Academy declined to comment, but word is that specific details are still being hammered out about how the actors who play the popular characters will be incorporated into the 91st Oscars ceremony...

If the show's producers can pull off a such a Marvel-ous stunt, it could benefit all involved: the Academy (which would love to serve up a star-studded show), ABC (which could potentially reap ratings benefits if it has an opportunity to promote the Marvel teaming ahead of time) and Disney (which owns not only ABC, but also Marvel). Certainly, it would be a nice promo for Avengers: Endgame, which opens April 26.

Yeah, Avengers: Endgame really needs promotion from the low-rated Oscars telecast.

Cultural Appropriation? Why is ABC/Disney culturally appropriating a job that was intended to go to a black guy? Why are they normalizing the pressure-firing of a black guy?

Does ABC/Disney and Marvel Studios hate black people? I mean, Black Panther had a low budget. The special effects of the horrible Mirror Match fight at the end looked like shit that a spotty 11th grader could do on After Effects.

103 69 When life give you lemons . . .

Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons; what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down... with the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!

about how 'all Americans are losing' and 'why don't they just
compromise'?
Then the conservative guy pipes up and says, 'look, for
the Dems, building a wall is non-negotiable. Schumer rejected the
compromises Trump offered'. (That was a refreshing breath of air when he
said that.)
Fuck the Dems, hard, with large sideways pineapples.
Oh, and apparently Trump is cancelling his trip next month to Davos because of the gubmint shutdown.

131 I do sort of wonder if this is the beginning of the end of it. Not the Awards, but the power of the Mob. And I wonder if it will be wholly because they've started to target black men.

One of the remarkably racist conversations that I've had was with a woman who insisted that you couldn't treat Obama or Holder the same as all the white politicians because they were "proud." She wouldn't say it was because they were black... those words wouldn't come past her fingers on the keyboard, but they were "proud". (And a brilliant case of "code words" as I have ever seen.)

But has anyone heard... was it Chris Rock? Eddy Murphy? Someone or other who was also targeted for decades old comedy routines... has anyone heard if whoever it was apologized? I hope not. I really do.

But who knows... our entire culture might be saved in the end by "proud" men.

==========

The Oscars had their chance to correct course with The Dark Knight.

It was a huge success financially and critically. No one would have thought less of them for nominating it for Best Picture, but they passed on doing even that.

The biggest grosser at that year's awards was The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (just over $100), although Slumdog Millionaire's win eventually helped it get over $140.

Compared to the $1 billion for The Dark Knight.

The Academy hasn't looked back since.

367 349 Well Netflix just sent me an email with an upcoming movie I should know about. Based on the trailer:

1. We made the Earth toxic.
2. Everyone has fled to Io.
3. One white chick is surviving on Earth alone.
4. She suddenly meets a guy floating by in a balloon.
5. Anyone want to guess the color of the guy?
6. Hints at they fall in love.
7. They have one last chance to flee earth.

Really, these things are paint by number and the paintings are badly designed.

Funny thing how there was a huge Hollywood ruckus about that at the time, because Harvey Ficusbanger shamelessly campaigned for those Oscars, far in excess than mainstream Hollywood was comfortable with. Probably spent more on the Oscar campaign than he did on the movie and original advertising budget.

Even funnier is that the only way Gwinny Goop could get her Oscar was because of Harvey's slimy Oscar campaign. Which she repaid by fucking him over during the #MeToo era (given that she has long had the reputation for being a serious roundheels, I wouldn't be surprised if she screwed him willingly).

At first, from what I understand, is that people thought she did it on her own.

Turns out it was a marketing scheme by Fiji. The official water partner of the GG Awards since 2015.

Company scammed $12 million worth of advertising because of it.

448 Fiji water was probably the best thing there. It's actually good, albeit overpriced. My kid does an hysterical riff on the hebrews wandering in the desert for "what felt like" 40 years because no fiji water.

450 Brie Larson is actually a robot.

When her movie career fails, she will be blasted into outerspace in a colony mission. On the way she will go crazy, and perform genetic engineering experiments on the colonists. She will discovery and destroy the founding alien super race using biotechology and will eventually seed the universe with mutuant ALIENS. She will live forever in gradually placing the universe under the sway of her mutant ALIENS army.

The inconsistencies on the powers of the monsters were things that I was handwaving away, to be honest. I don't like to nitpick stuff like that, because it can usually be fixed with one line of dialogue.

"They're allergic to glass and insulation!"

"Why?"

"So we can have a movie!"

It'd be dumb, but a reason. The fact that no reason is given doesn't help the movie at all, of course, but it has significantly larger problems than the fact that it never explains why monsters can't break some glass.

461 I was internally screaming about structure as I was watching it a few days before RLM released their review.

It's an outright bad movie as well. Everything in the house doesn't work. It looks cheap most of the time, and feels cheap because of the limited number of sets. The ending was never even remotely earned. Characters were really dumb.
Posted by: TheJamesMadison, If you've read and enjoyed any of my works, please leave a review on Amazon. at January 10, 2019 03:39 PM (XSSCs)

The characters were all cliches which can work if done right. But the worse offense for me was that Bullock and her other compatriots pretty much everyone killed when they don't listed to Malovich. That should have had some impact on the story.

It was an excellent movie. But he should have missed the last answer and the chick should have jumped back in the car and left.

BTW, she was the star of a decent series about nutcase 60s leftist terrorists in Britain. Bad ending but a series worth watching. I forget the name of it.
