81 The French peasantry was a popular subject for the French avant-garde about this time. With modernity evolving fast, many artists were looking for something simple and primitive. A really popular region was Brittany whose people had a strong sense of identity. The Republican reported Wednesday that Judge Robert Brennan says the office must undergo major reforms, including providing additional training for staff and instituting rules for complying with discovery requests similar to those followed by the state police's crime management unit.

The decision comes after a judge found the office failed to release evidence to lawyers representing drunken driving defendants that showed around 400 Breathalyzer results were flawed.

The technical leader of the office was fired, and prosecutors tossed evidence from thousands of drunken driving cases as a result.

290 Can we all just admit to ourselves that the wall, good as it might do in places, won't stop illegals from crossing the border?

Stopping all the vast variety of welfare payments to illegals (which is already illegal and entirely 100% in PDJT's hands to stop) will stop some large part of the flow, and requiring citizenship checks for jobs and voting will end the rest. If we don't pay them to come, fewer will try.

Yes, but stop != reduce.

When I was a kid my dad would sometimes say, "locks only keep out honest people anyway." When I was a teenager, I got to thinking about it and he was wrong and eventually talked to him about it. Locks will also keep out the casually dishonest. A person who will enter and rob an unlocked car may well not break into and rob a locked car. Locks will not stop the committed dishonest, but there are far fewer of them.

A border wall is not a 100% solution and not paying these people who come here illegally with tax dollars and letting them vote would be a tremendous disincentive and we should completely do it. But a wall will probably be effective - but probably not a panacea. It is expensive, but not so expensive that it is an outrageous gamble.

A wall, being a permanent physical barrier is the only border security measure that stays in place when (not if) a future administration/government bureaucracy decides they just don't care about enforcing it. All other systems require people actively working them for them to do anything. A wall (while it would be much more effective with patrols and maintenance) doesn't instantly become completely ineffective when the relevant agency just stops prioritizing it.

Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at January 10, 2019 10:26 AM (cqNba)

293 Huck,

Your argument is a difefrent version of the 100% argument. It's basically, to stop illegals we have to do X, Y and Z. And building the wall won't help with X Y and Z. And you're right in a sense. But building the wall will make it more difficult (not impossible) for people to get here. Which will make it X Y and Z easier since there will be less volume of people.

There are about 100 things that we should be doing to solve the illegal problem. On their own, none of them will do it. We need everything, a wall, more border agents, more interior enforcement, etc.

On many issues yes, graft is the most important thing to the Donks. This is different. This is one of the areas where graft is secondary to their primary goal of the destruction of Western Civilization.

In fact, as I think about it, graft might be a damned effective means of getting a lot of the less ideologically committed Donks on board with The Wall. Or at least, to get them to stay somewhat neutral. Probably not enough to make it a reality, but it's an approach worth considering.

Not that unique at all. Virtually every communist paradise in history had walls or extensive fortifications to prevent unauthorized border crossing. And the commies proved themselves to be pretty damned effective at preventing those border crossings (it helps when the border guards are authorized to machine gun the border crossers). Not 100%, but fairly damned close to that.

As to which DIRECTION the border crossers were going? That's actually not relevant when talking about the effectiveness of walls.

Posted by: SturmToddler at January 10, 2019 10:25 AM (8D42x)

Leftists have always used the some equals all argument. If someone says that illegal aliens are a drain on the taxpayer in welfare support, crime, prison population, and displacing citizens from their jobs, you get, "Julio Gonzalez came into this country with only some flour tortillas and then created the multi-billion dollar cyber security company Yo Mama. So, undocumented workers are not a drain on the system. And don't call them illegal aliens!" Apparently, there are millions of illegal aliens in this country, but if one is a "credit to his race", then all are. But, when they make some argument about White Privilege, you point to the fact that you are not privileged, they argue that you benefit from it and you are "unconsciously racist" because, yada yada yada. Apparently there are even larger numbers of Whites in this country that never benefit from White Privilege, there are more non-Whites benefiting from non-White Privilege, but if there is one White person benefiting from White Privilege then we all are, so all must be punished.

435 I did Shellback in 1979. I was in the Deep Recon Platoon, 3rd Recon
Bn out of Okinawa and we were on the USS Juneau. We were the only
Marines on the ship and we hit quite a few different ports while waiting
for the greenlight for some mission that never happened. We picked up a
bunch of Vietnamese refugees on a disabled ship and took them to
Thailand. Got to spend a bunch of time in Pattaya Beach. Good memories.
