The Morning Report - 1/3/19

hankjoo.jpg

Good morning kids. Thursday and the big stories we're covering include a) the continued Democrat-caused government "shutdown" (wherein most of the government runs fully funded on autopilot, including Uncle Sugar's entitlement check-signing hand) over the Democrats' utter refusal to secure our borders and keep us safe in order to import more Democrat voters, b) the concomitant danger to our immediate safety from having a virtually open border as it is and the subsuming of our national identity and lastly c) the reaction to Mitt Willard "Rat-Bastard" Romney's disgusting op-ed from the National Laughingstock/WaPo.

Let's play it as it lays. Schemer and Palsi once again met with the President as well as DHS Secretary Nielsen and flat out refused to even discuss border security or funding for a border wall. The precondition, from what I gather, is they want to strip that out from any CR, end the "shutdown" and then discuss that later. Yeah, sure. And considering they've publicly stated that there will never be a red cent for any border wall or border security, then all of this is on their heads, the Democrat-Left-Media-Agitprop Complex's lies notwithstanding. And that funding bill that the House Dems are pushing has been flat-out labeled DOA in the Senate by Cocaine Mitch. As I mentioned yesterday, and the IBD editorial underscores, the President is holding a royal flush with this. The longer the government remains "shutdown," the longer the average American will realize that it has virtually zero impact on their lives and livelihood. And that is really the only thing the Democrats have; claiming people will drop dead in the streets by the millions unless the precious US Federal government continues to stay open (and starve them of their freedom and property). Meanwhile, as the links indicate, along with disease, crime and general mayhem that the "caravans" are brining right now, we also face an ever-quickening societal dissolution not to mention the threat from terrorism from Middle Easterners who are coming across that border with the full knowledge and sometimes even the assistance of Central and South American nations (see the links pertaining to these points, especially from the good Roger Simon). Hang tough, Mr. President. This is a winning issue on a couple of levels. The people - that is, the actual clear majority of the citizenry - are with you.

To politics where the lead story is the overwhelmingly negative reaction, and in some quarters utter revulsion at that Romney op-ed. Lou Dobbs called him a "creep" and Luap the Lesser must be on my brainwave about that op-ed being a non-announcement announcement that Willard intends to primary PDT. Already, one member of the RNC wants a rule change to prevent any challengers. As you may know, Romney's niece, Ronna McDaniel has come out strongly against Uncle Jagoff on this but let's see her actions as chair of the RNC vis a vis this.

Elsewhere, in the scandal and chutzpocrisy files, Bernardo Sandersnista's handling of the sexual misconduct allegations of his 2016 campaign staff is not helpful to his cause in '20, and lookie-here! Nancy Palsi, that crusader to save the planet by draining our wallets, has hired a major investor in major polluters to lead her "Climate Crisis Committee." Botulinum is a helluva drug, yo. Hank Johnson, the loping imbecile who has the intellectual agility of a seaslug with Downs Syndrome and has no grasp of geology, physics or sentence structure now evidently has no understanding of Godwin's law. Funny considering he (and his former colleague Cynthia McKinney you may recall) is not exactly fond of Hebraic nationals. Elsewhere, while the President is high on SCOTUS dumping DACA (Chief Justice Errant Crockovich notwithstanding) as a precedent to the Dems caving on the border wall, the Koch/CoC Brothers Whores are vowing to try and ram it through. Funny, I seem to recall them as the Dems' go-to Emanuel Goldsteins only a few short years ago. And as she sharpens her crab-claw cracker, Fauxca-Hasbeen is railing against billionaires self-funding their campaigns, presumably that's a swipe at Trump but to me it sounds like she's going after Demi-Doomberg. Of course, the multi-millions she earned by stealing foreclosed houses is justified. Lastly, as Moonbeam leaves Sacramento, he stays classy by pardoning criminals and smearing whatever taxpayers are left there in that state. But never fear; Gavin New-sance has arrived to completely wipe out what's left of the Golden State.

In First Amendment and Fake News Fakery, there's a huge lawsuit flying just under the radar now involving the SPLC and a lawyer who claims the anti-American front group has and is attempting to destroy him (worth a read), the New York Times has high praise for an enviro-commie who offed himself and I certainly hope his fellow travelers follow suit en masse, and the first in a few stories about the Chop Suey brigade, China wins the award for greatest jailer of journalists in the world. Real journalists, not the JmJ Acostas of this world.

Mueller Inquisition: New documents confirm that the Steele dossier was a deliberate means to set up and sink Trump. I'm shocked! Shocked!

Guns, Guns, Guns: The father of a Parkland massacre victim goes ballistic on reading the report about the Broward Cowards, a commission oks the arming of Florida teachers to prevent the aforementioned, and a good guy with a gun prevents a whole lot of death and destruction.

Over at the foreign desk, cue the lutes and shamisens as the ChiComs are threatening to take "reunify" Taiwan with them, even if by force of Arms. Why do I get the sense that they are reading our newspapers and think Trump is in trouble because of the shutdown and the midterms? Can they be that dense over in Peking? Meanwhile, the Farsis are hosting some PLO Ikeeeelyous sparking growing fears in Israel, the US is urged to cut them off until the American jailed for selling sacred PLO land to filthy Yids is released, a couple of interesting takes on nationalism as well as our current foreign policy (undefined as it may or may not be), and the growing ChiCom biotech threat.

Domestically, Robert Spencer warns that Lara Kollab, aka Dr. Kilpatient, is not unique or new, The Trump deregulation train slows but keeps a'rolling, the Ocasio-Taco-Rosado brigade are not happy with Nancy Palsi's budgetary maneuverings, and the Senate has approved 77 Trump nominees to close out the Congressional session. Also criminal justice reform means shoplifting for fun and profit, fracking seems to be yielding less oil, and the Texas judge who smacked down Obamacare is doubling down on his ruling. Good.

Red-Greens: National GeoPornographic's new Mars docu-series is about as unbiased and non-ideological as a very large gathering at Nuremberg in 1934.

FemiNazism, Transgender Psychosis, Societal Emasculation: "X" now marks the spot on the Big Adam's apple and the EU is big on shelling out money for sheer time-wastage. I move we rename The Morning Report to In-Depth Cataloging of 19th Century Female Authorship. Please send $1.3 million via Western Union to AOSHQ to cover all modalities (and remain blessed...).

From hither and yon, first they came for Friends and I said nothing. Now they have come for Seinfeld and I said..., Victor Davis Hanson has a positive spin on the year that was and lastly the utter bankruptcy of the Boy Scouts on every level. Sad.

Anyway, links from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed.

'Once you figure out that the other side really, genuinely, and truly wants to exterminate your religion and your race, only the suicidal and the delusional will persist in trying to "come together" and seek to "discuss our differences". You can brag about being anti-racist, apolitical, post-ideological, colorblind, or even apathetic all you like, but once it finally registers that the other side is literally hell-bent on destroying everything and everyone you value, it's no longer possible to continue lying to yourself.'

78 ChiComs are threatening to take "reunify" Taiwan with them, even if by force of Arms. Why do I get the sense that they are reading our newspapers and think Trump is in trouble because of the shutdown and the midterms? Can they be that dense over in Peking?

Of course they can be "that dense". And it isn't really gross stupidity. One of the toughest things there is to do is to understand the politics and culture of another nation. And the more different, the more difficult.

The most obvious example was the Germans not seeing there was a limit to how far they could push the Brits and French, and later, how tough Russia would be. Japan too fcuked up this way in 1941.

But perhaps the best example is the Argies assuming that Maggie would do nothing about the Falklands. That shocked not just Buenos Aires, but Moscow too. (It's not as if we were on top of things in the last days of the USSR, either.)

This kind of incomprehension is really normal human behavior.

Funny how the RINO wing of the Deep State Uniparty had both houses and the presidency for two years and basically failed at any significant legislation, including an actual budget reform.

But Pelosi, in a former congress, managed to wave a magic wand, produce a backroom closed door 2300 page healthcare bill THAT WAS NOT LEAKED, and ram it through Congress on a short fuse schedule.

But Congress all got paid on time, had nice vacations, and were able to cash all the graft checks, so I guess it's all good!

125 That whole "you didn't build that" crap (Warren got it from some leftist in CA) ... fits better with those that import cheap (illegal) labor, and get it subsidized by average taxpayers (directly with benefits, indirectly because they drive down blue collar wages).

The American labor force was built with all sort of rules/laws ... which includes "building that" ... THAT being the American middle class work force and the communities that build the culture. Culture is part of the economic structure/framework.

So illegals bring a completely different third world culture, and it gets supported. The "elite" short circuit the established path of building the middle class, and in effect they use "slaves" that have a negative impact on those outside the rich estate's ivory walls.

And just in the economic sense, the rich get that subsidy for health care and entitlements for their third world slaves/workers, AND the paycheck that normally builds the community, gets exported to support the narco states. The narco states didn't build that ... the American labor force built that.

126 Left-wing academic argues in The Atlantic (day ending in y) that the Senate should be "reapportioned" such that all the big square states would lose a senator to give more to California and New York.

Also, he says that even though the Constitution explicitly says two senators per state AND no state can have a Senator taken away, Congress can bypass the Constitution by just passing a law.

Rather than their insanity being a cause for despair, I see it as a sign of hope. The hatred and cognitive dissonance on "The Left" is not, dare I say it, Sustainable. It is a pseudo-revolutionary and thoroughly post-modern movement inherently designed to destroy itself.

There will be pain and nonsense in the interim of course, but long term, I think humanity (or at least Western Society) is going to be fine. It's "just a phase".

The accident occurred when technicians withdrew a control rod by hand in the refueling canal while the head was removed and the canal flooded with water. The technicians exceeded the allowed rate of withdrawal causing a steam explosion in the channel where the rod was being withdrawn which ejected the rod from the core and pinned one of the technicians to the roof of the enclosure and killed two others.

IOW they are not raw data and the people doing these data sets have been known in the past to alter the calculations to the point that they are fraudulent. I don't believe anything they release anymore. Especially since my own raw data shows that we have been cooling for the past ten years.

Also, he says that even though the Constitution explicitly says two senators per state AND no state can have a Senator taken away, Congress can bypass the Constitution by just passing a law.

180 On this day in 1961 SL-1, an Army experimental reactor, was destroyed by a steam explosion.

Key date: Jan. 14. That will be the first payless payday for the furloughed workers. Due to the payroll calendar, they got paid in full on Monday since shut down started after the pay period ended.

Jan. 14 is when shit gets real in DC.

The real tragedy here is that children NEED guidance. This notion that they have some sort of innate inner drive that parents only need to coax out is nonsense on stilts. Kids need rules, structure in order to thrive. Constantly throwing decisions at them without giving them any preparation to make them is a recipe for disaster.

My oldest daughter finished high school three years ago. Same HS as me. We had zero suicides when I attended in the 80s. There were three while she was there and three more of her peers (not same class, but attended at the same time) have killed themselves since.

Of course it's a veeerrry liberal, progressive college town and they're using all the latest teaching techniques, which is why the kids are KILLING THEMSELVES.

It's just depressing to think about.

It's more complex than that.

Nunes and Jordan dropped the ball big time. Or rather, Paul Ryan did.

Congress controls the budget. Time was, they played hard ball with it. If Ryan was serious, he'd have used regular order (which the GOP PROMISED TO DO) and do budgets by department rather than dump CRs and omnibus funding.

So in regular order, you can do things like "Unless you turn over the data, your department will lose all travel money and all executive service staff will lose their salary."

But Ryan didn't do that, and neither Jordan or Nunes tried to make him.

They just whined pitifully and asked Trump to do it for them.

Trump - who is actually a strict constitutionalist (total surprise here) - properly said "No. You have the tools, you just won't use them."

Trump is instead moving at his own speed and at his own time. He knews stuff we don't know, which is why I no longer bother to follow the story or trouble myself with trying to predict what will happen.

I have been crushingly disappointed by this, too. I only see a few possible reasons for it:
1) It is actually damning to Trump in some way (this seems unlikely).
2) Our hollowed-out, weaponized intelligence services are incompetent to the point of danger, and we need external help from 5-eyes to get anything done - so we're not willing to piss them off on an internal affair
3) It is so bad that it would cause a complete destruction of any remaining credibility or assumption of propriety with regard to the intelligence agencies at all levels - the damage done would outweigh Trump's vindication (at least in his or his advisors' eyes)
4) He is waiting to drop it like a nuke during the campaign

I hope it's 4. Any other reason is a bad one.

So basically, Americans must bleed, die and possibly get nuked for Taiwan to send their paychecks to Beijing rather than Taipei.

In other articles, we have Chinese Generals outlining how to destroy the US, starting by sinking our carriers. He was most certainly correct in that the US would curl up and cry if we lost two carriers and the 10k lives on board.

The moment that McCain died, Graham found a spine. I don't love Graham on immigration and some other points, but he suddenly started walking erect. I would bet good money that McCain had something bad on Graham - probably personal rather than professional (the communists in the press have a lock on the professional side).

I used to work in politics and for a time, I was actually the one generating the talking points. There's not an original thought in the bunch, people just sit around a table, come up with what they want to do, the hacks come up with killer phrases and then it's farmed out to the minions for circulation.

This is why trying to argue with Goldberg, etc. is a waste of time. He gets his memo and his paycheck from the same place. Until Ace or anyone else finds out a way to stop that from happening, he'll keep doing what he does, regardless of how stupid he looks.

Mind you, I think he knows he looks stupid and this is why he has such a vicious streak. Goldberg used to be more of a happy warrior, but now he's just a bastard.

China is an interesting question from a strategic standpoint. They seem to have lots of tech, but they are also incredibly corrupt. They don't have a military so much as a racket. Unlike Japan, Germany or even Russia, China historically treats soldiers as scum. No tradition of discipline or honor in their warfighting world. Yeah, Sun Tzu but that was before the Unification.

Since then soldiers are at the bottom of the Confucian order.

Plus, China's one-child policy means there are a LOT of families whose entire hope is wrapped in a single kid. So the traditional Chinese method of drowning the enemy in your own blood won't work.

The upshot is that Taiwan may have a higher pain threshold than the mainland.

Cuomo has positioned himself as the Biden insurance policy. No way can Biden pick another male person-of-pallor as his running mate. But should Joey take a turn for the worse in the next couple of years, he'll be right there to step up and contest for the top spot.

Speaking of Cuomo, New York has gone completely off the rails at this point. In my memory it's gone from an essentially 50-50 state to a hard left progressive sh*thole, save for the increasingly depopulated rural upstate areas. This, while many of the Upstate cities have gone solidly blue, and in many cases straight to FSA ghetto status (e.g. Rochester, Buffalo, much of Poughkeepsie etc).

Cuomo's new AG is promising lawfare against any relatives or associates of Bad Orange Man, with nary a peep from the "Republicans" in the State Legislature, or the State GOP, or any of the Bar Associations around the State.

Legislators are floating a "social media disclosure" bill for gun owners, requiring a gun owner to give the State all account passwords, so the State can review all your postings for "Hate Speech" or "racism" and take away your guns if you have held forbidden opinions, told an off color joke, retweeted a tweet, etc.

Another bill proposes "liability insurance" requirements for gun owners. Of course, most of rural upstate is poor, to the point that forcing someone to cough up another premium will be a hard choice, or outright forcing large swaths of some of the best people in the state to become "criminals." And, I'm sure the insurance people will require detailed inventories of the various "risks" involved, i.e. such a bill would impose a backdoor registration of all long guns in the State.

I'm a minority on this, but I think a lot of the market slide is simply correcting for the "juicing" the Fed did under Obama to prop it up.

People forget about that, but part of the "quantitative easing" was the Fed simply buying lots and lots of stocks. That pushed the market up and was supposed to create a "wealth effect" where people saw their portfolio doing well and went out and bought stuff.

Alternatively, the Fed members were on the take and simply providing graft to their buddies.

Anyhow, unwinding that would naturally forces stocks down.

Similarly, raising interest rates above zero (which was always insane) makes other investments viable. Suddenly more secure investments like CDs and such become feasible, so people will pull their money out of the roller coaster and into something insured.

Overall, there's still a lot of slack in the economy and plenty of room to grow. All those factories that were being expanded haven't even come on line yet. They should do so in about a year...just in time for 2020.

I am inclined to agree. Lots of money money was manufactured in the wake of the Financial Crisis and they got their asset bubble - in equities. Equities are probably going to slide for years. Maybe not crash (though that is possible), but a long downward slog is more than possible.

The six month US Treasury Bill interest rate now exceeds the S&P 500 dividend yield. From an investment standpoint (particularly inactive/passive investment), getting out of stocks is increasingly sensible, and equity prices are going to reflect this. And interest rates aren't normal (or "neutral" - neither stimulative nor restrictive) yet, either. We have at least a couple of more rate hikes in the near-immediate future.

With all due resect, Dr. Alfred Kentigern Siewers, author of the Scouts' hit piece, is far more in love with his own voice than with the facts. That is not to say that the organization is free of problems, but his grasp of what they are is tenuous.

He was spot on in describing a major impetus for changes being driven by changes in the Protestant churches which sponsored many troops and packs rather than by the broader culture. I say this having been involved with two troops - one sponsored by the Episcopal Church, USA and the second by a Baptist church most definitely not aligned with the southern Baptists - where their doctrinal biases and errors were forced upon the troops (or else).

I've requested funding to build a wall on our southern border that has proven time and time again to be porous and a source for criminals and terrorists to enter The United States and do great harm to it's people. The Democrats have chosen to block every effort to fund such a structure and therefore is complacent in killing Americans and doing harm to this country.

I will continue to request the funding and will be attempting to secure our southern and confirm security of all other borders, but the Democrats seem to think that they will benefit from a massive influx of illegal immigrants and overall destruction of The United States of America. I will not stand for it and I will be doing everything I can to defeat them and their evil goals of US destruction.

Thank you, and GOD BLESS AMERICA.

But in their first day of power in the new Congress, Democrats must stave off a liberal rebellion after prominent Democrats said they would oppose the entire rules package that has been carefully assembled by Rep. Nancy Pelosi and a top lieutenant.

Rep. Ro Khanna (Calif.) and Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.) said they would vote against the rules changes -- in the second vote Democrats will take in the majority after ostensibly electing Pelosi (D-Calif.) as the new speaker -- because of the inclusion of a fiscal measure known as "pay as you go," or paygo. That rule, echoing a provision in federal law and in the Senate's rules, would require the House to offset any spending so as not to increase the budget deficit.
