Ace of Spades Pet Thread

Four-Dogs-of-Christmas.jpg

Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. It's that time of day where you should kick back and enjoy the world of animals.

From our friend and fellow Moron, Bitter Clinger and his doggeh Snickers.

Cute. Nighty-nite little kitteh.

Meet The PetMorons

photo shoot 0415 007.jpg

This is our senior Chihuahua, Souris (Soo - ree), which means mouse in French. She is seven and is the boss of the house. She keeps the others in line especially Levon the Terrible our naughty English Setter pup. My wife claims that Souris is a little fat but I tell her that she is a big boned gal. It's impossible to beat her to a crumb, however. Toast with peanut butter is her favorite thing.

Regards
Tom

A Chihuahua and an English Setter, playtime must be interesting at your house Tom. Thanks for sharing with us.

This is one of my four grand cats, York. Sorry for the fuzzy pic. I need a better phone.
I caught him in the act of being a cat. You can see the guilt in his eyes,
He's a good looking guy who is a bit neurotic. He likes to walk into another room and then
scream because you didn't follow him. But if he sees something new or exciting, he yawns.
Maybe someday I'll have actual grand children that I'm not allergic to.

From long time lurker dimuse.

Nice try dimuse for the new phone. You grand cat is quite a handsome guy. Nice photo thank you for sharing with us.

Merry Christmas!

I submitted a picture of Belle and Bilbo a few months back when Bilbo was still a pup.

Bilbo and Belle are ready for Christmas. Visions of dog toys that last longer than 5 minutes of chewing dancing in their heads. They love squeaky toys, but it only takes a few minutes until the stuffing is all over the house and the squeaker is being chewed.

Yes, it requires a few treats to get them to suffer the indignity of posing.

Merry Christmas,
Steve

A few treats? That sounds pretty subjective to us. Wonderful looking pups and the house looks nicely decorated as well!

This is Tulip our 2 year old 1/2 Lab 1/2 Border Collie enjoying the first snow of the year. She's very sweet and bar none the smartest dog we've ever had.
Thanks! Holly LeRoy

I recognize the Lab in Tulip, I don't see the Border Collie. Charming looking dog. A retriever and a herder in one, should be a fun house.

Hi MisHum, Corona here (currently The One Who Ends Comment Threads but Ima gonna change it back).

Anyway I'm sending you of some great neighborhood doggehs
and a kitteh I've gotten to know ampersand love these past few years.
Still a few I haven't gotten pics of yet but this round will do.
I've had pets most of my life but not recently, space and $ being factors.
So I glom off my neighbors' pets for hugs and squishies.

The long-haired black Chihuahua is Josie, around 12.

And Teh Kitteh of unknown origin has been named BuddyBoy, I'd guess around 3.

I love the Pet Thread every weekend. It's so nice to shake my head free of politics.
Thanks for all that you and Ace and the cobs do for the place. It's a great home.

-Corona

You must be an animal lover if you're sending in photos of neighborhood critters. Hope you can get your own in the near future. Thanks for your support of the Pet Thread.

Long time lurker, rare commenter. Our Siberian Husky Skye, protecting her last bit of snow pile from the sun. Skye is our second Siberian. The first was also named Skye. Both were adopted with that name already attached. - Fritz

Quite the protective dog you have there Fritz. If Skye wants to protect my driveway, go for it. Thanks for lurking and sharing.

3dogssat.jpg

Here are our 3 dogs, in ascending order is Ziggy a German Shorthair Pointer, next is The Moose a mix of Yorkie and Bichon, Zig's sidekick. At the top is the shit stirrer outcast with the current name Gravy, an English Pointer. Zig was diagnosed with cancer but got to go out West on an epic bird hunting trip this fall with Gravy and then crossed the rainbow bridge a few days after arriving home. Both pointers came off the scrap pile and get to do what they were born to do. Zig was a hunting fool and full of power in his prime. - Clutch

Dogs on steps is one of my favorite doggeh poses. 3 of them at one time is awesome. Sorry to hear about Ziggy's passing. Thanks for sharing with us.

Merry Christmas to you and yours from the Misanthropic Humanitarian's PetMorons, Derry, Darbie & Dreamer.

33 Had an exciting event Thursday. Daughter was supposed to travel to a meeting for work but it was canceled. So she worked from home and noticed her standard poodle was acting strangely. She took him for a leashed walk to see it that would improved his mood. As she was almost home, the dog swelled up like a balloon, she correctly diagnosed this as bloat (basically rotated/twisted stomach) and drove to the nearest emergency vet. Fortunately, they were able to operate immediately and believe that her prompt action saved the dog and hopefully he comes home Thursday.
So both Daughter H and I are thankful for a lot this Christmas.

The heating pad has a two hour shut off limit.

37 >>>What would happen if you "died" in front of your pet? The reaction is something else.

That cat knew it was a goof all along. For it to be a valid test, you'd have to administer some toxin that would leave him clinically dead for several minutes, and then see how the cat reacts.

41
Near Bethlehem some time ago,
A flock of sheep was dwelling.
To shepherds, sheep, and sheep dog, too,
Angel choirs came telling.

Good news, not fear, to all the world,
A baby in a manger.
"We'd leave to see," the shepherds said,
"But our sheep would be in danger."

"To watch the flock, we'll leave the dog,
While seeking mankind's Savior.
The dog will guard and keep the sheep
From wandering behavior."

Though disappointed not to go
To Bethlehem's blest stable,
The dog felt duty-bound to work
As well as it was able.

The shepherds came at last and praised
God for Christ revealing,
Too wonder-struck to praise the dog
That gave them time for kneeling.

But God Himself spoke to the dog
In tones for canine hearing.
His words inspired all dogs to serve
For ages persevering:
"Good and faithful servant, well done."

Merry Christmas from the Hounds of Soyara

That's what I told her. From the vet's comments if she had done her normal (long) commute to a non-local venue, she would have come home to a dead or dying dog. (Or Conor and I would have gone over to walk her dog midday, and I have no idea what I would have done.)

44 And Cinnamon is still only 1/2 making it into her litter box. So I need to every other day change the box and trays I have under the box.
She isn't a big cat ( under 10 pounds) and the boxes are big enough so no idea why she changed her habit. She gets in the box put goes outside of it.

79 47 I ran into a lady at Petco that had two long haired black chihuauas...God they were adorable. One of them was named Moose! and the other was Waylen. Then one of the roofers this week was talking to hubby and HIS dog is named Moose. Pretty popular name in this neck of the woods.

Moose does seem to be a popular name. One of dogs is called Moose, and our livestock vet has a greeter Great Dane named Moose, along with being the greeter he is also a dog blood donor when needed.

87 The husky on the snow pile is hysterical. I had a Samoyed, and that crazy bastard loved the snow. His big thing was to lay outside and sleep during a snow storm until he got buried, then when he woke up you would see a small snow explosion, and then he would come to door to come in, as if to say hey that was great, ok let me in. A few hours later he was ready to do it again. He hated being inside during winter. He had a nice dog house, but when it snowed I swear if he could do a snoopy he would sleep on top of it.

I would go with Jewell's suggestion. My son is volunteering at a shelter that has mostly cats. A number of them had to be given up by elderly owners, but unlike a kitten-they have the advantage of being socialized and knowing how to use the litter box. They (the older cats) get lonely too and do well back in a family.

Our old guys are doing well -- Old Dog, New Old Dog (from shelter), and Old Cat are learning to live cooperatively rather than Old Dog having to lay down the law. New Old Dog still won't tolerate other dogs around him, so Granddog can't stay here when son and his family are visiting.
