The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

If you're having trouble keeping track, the French protests, Trump, Brexit, the Austrian and Italian elections, and the sudden cancellation of the "Murphy Brown" reboot are all the work of Russian bots. Whereas the Tijuana caravan, the UK grooming gangs and that rental car heading toward you on the sidewalk outside the Berlin Christmas market are the authentic vox populi. Mark Steyn

Quote II

“There’s nothing bad about that song. And it just breaks my heart and I know my dad would be going insane right now … He would say, what’s the matter with you? You know, get over it. It’s just a fun song,” Deana Martin

Quote III

“Some tenuous connection to a politically fraught issue does not justify abdicating our judicial duty. If anything, neutrally applying the law is all the more important when political issues are in the background,”Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas

Alex Jones of InfoWars fame is a pretty darn good heckler. Googles CEO ripped for Chi-Com assistance.

Conspiracy theorist and Infowars founder Alex Jones was on hand to greet Google CEO Sundar Pichai on his arrival for a House Judiciary Committee hearing on the company's data collection practices and alleged political bias within search engine results.

"You sold this country out," Jones shouted at Pichai. "You won't even help the Pentagon out and you help the Chicoms. You bet on the wrong country, Sundar."

Miracles never cease. And Madison and Miguel the Mutts are a perfect example.

At first, Bill Gaylord didn’t think much of the black smoke that loomed across the horizon near his home on the morning of Nov. 8. As his neighbors prepared to flee, Gaylord hopped in his silver Chevy Blazer and drove to a nearby cafe to grab coffee.

After all, the stubborn 75-year-old Gaylord had lived his entire life in Paradise. Why would this fire be any different than so many others? he thought.

But by the time he got home about 7:15 a.m., all hell had broken loose.

Of course Silly, it's body shaming......Man with boobs pretends he is a woman.

Due to Mouncey’s weight, height, and testosterone levels, he was barred from entering the Australian Football League, Women’s (AFLW) draft, last year. Mouncey wrote a piece for The Guardian in September blasting the AFL for their regulations. He noted specifically that the weight regulation is a form of “body shaming” and a blow to all women, transgender or not.

“My biggest concern is the fact that weight is being used as one of the key physical measures for possible exclusion. Forget the fact that in a game that has such an emphasis on endurance and speed, being heavy is not necessarily an advantage and think about the message it sends to women and girls about their bodies: if you’re too big, you can’t play. That is incredibly dangerous and backward,” Mouncey said.

The Fight For $15 is fairly silent about Flippy.

Walmart (WMT) is in the early stages of testing a kitchen robot assistant named “Flippy” at its Bentonville, Arkansas, headquarters to see whether or not it’s the right fit for its in-store delis.

Flippy is the world’s first autonomous robotic kitchen assistant powered by artificial intelligence from Miso Robotics, a two-year-old startup. The robot made headlines a year ago debuting as the burger-flipping robot at a CaliBurger franchise in Pasadena.

More recently, Flippy got a gig at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles with vending food service company Levy Restaurants, part of Compass Group, to fry up chicken tenders and tater tots. Through the World Series, Flippy churned out 17,000 pounds worth of the fried foods. It’s able to fry up to eight baskets of food simultaneously.

My kind of medical test, especially after a full morning of coffee.

Bladder cancer is among the most common and deadly of cancers. Because of its high recurrence rate (50-80 percent), patients must be monitored frequently for recurrence or progression of the disease. This monitoring currently consists of visual analysis of cells taken from the patient's bladder. It is uncomfortable, it is expensive, and it is not even especially accurate, detecting only around 60 percent of low-grade tumors.

Now, scientists have figured out how to use atomic force microscopy (AFM) to detect bladder cancer in urine samples. By analyzing only five cells, it can achieve 94 percent accuracy.

Do you have a Leftist relative? Are you cheap? Or do you just want to suck up to Skipper Bill and The Cucksters? The ONT has the perfect Christmas present for you!

Bill and Hillary Clinton are selling discount tickets on Groupon in an attempt to improve upon the feeble opening crowd they had on their speaking tour.

Tickets for nine of the "Evening With the Clintons" tour stops have gone up on Groupon at heavy discounts, Fox News reports. The first stop in Toronto had "vast swathes" of empty seats, while the second stop in Houston had to be delayed because of George H.W. Bush’s funeral.

Even in heavily Democratic parts of the country, the former first couple appear to be having difficulty selling people on their latest speaking tour. Phildelphia, New York, Detroit, and Boston are among the venues where tickets are available at a steep discount.

So what happens to solar panels when they have outlived their usefulness? The law of unintended consequences?

The last few years have seen growing concern over what happens to solar panels at the end of their life. Consider the following statements:

- The problem of solar panel disposal will explode with full force in two or three decades and wreck the environment because it is a huge amount of waste which is not easy to recycle. 1

- Solar panels create 300 times more toxic waste per unit of energy than do nuclear power plants. If solar and nuclear produce the same amount of electricity over the next 25 years that nuclear produced in 2016, and the wastes are stacked on football fields, the nuclear waste would reach the height of the Leaning Tower of Pisa (53 meters), while the solar waste would reach the height of two Mt. Everests (16 km). 2

Typical Leftie, phony and hypocritical. Lena Dunham.

A year ago, Dunham lied in order to discredit a woman who had just gone to the police to report a sexual assault.

On Wednesday, she penned a rambling, pretentious opus about women in Hollywood (“Heroines have emerged. We are cracking open windows and beating down doors. The air is circulating and the light is pouring in,” and sneaked a whiny, halfhearted mea culpa into the ninth paragraph.

We’re so used to Dunham apologizing at this point (Lena Dunham Apologizes is an actual Twitter handle) that we went ahead and lumped this garbage onto her giant apology pile.

Barack Obama the Shit Midas Touch again.

Obama also meddled in the Israeli election in 2016, sending our taxpayer money to try to oust Netanyahu.

Maybe Obama and Kerry can send James Taylor back to Paris to sing “You’ve Got a Friend” again.

Democrats are okay with foreign meddling in elections when they do it.

As France devolves into what some are saying could be a civil war in the streets of Paris, the French should recall who wanted them to elect Emmanuel Marcon in the first place: former U.S. president Barack Obama….

Alcohol and firearms do not mix, I repeat, do not mix. Genius Award Winner-1st Runner Up.

Deputies in Summit County, Utah arrested 56-year-old Randal Weed Dickinson Sunday after his roommates allege he stumbled out of his room drunk and knocked over a Christmas tree.

“The homeowner and his son were in the kitchen of the home when Dickinson came out of his room and fell into the Christmas tree, knocking it over. The roommates then told him to go back into his room,” KTVX reports.

“As the roommates started to walk from the kitchen to the backdoor, gunfire started from behind them. Dickinson shot approximately 15 rounds from a handgun at the two. The bullets hit appliances and went through walls, but no one was actually hit with the gun fire,” according to the news site. “When the firearm ran empty, Dickinson was subdued by the roommates until deputies arrived.

I'll take a burger, fries and some ecstasy. Sonic Genius Award Winners.

An illegal drug served in a fast food burger led to the arrest of three Sonic employees in Taylor.

The Taylor Police Department reported that a family went to the Sonic Drive-in Thursday night and ordered some food. When they got their order, police said the family's 11-year-old daughter unwrapped her four-year-old brother's burger and found a pill in the wrapping.

Police say the girl initially mistook the pill for candy, but her parents suspected something worse. The family then drove to the Taylor police station, where officers said a field test determined the pill was ecstasy.

Yes Morons, there is a Santa Claus. Actually several of them. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

aterford Township — The skies over Oakland County were busy Saturday with an estimated 250 flights by aircraft of all sizes taking off with gifts for foster children across Michigan.

It’s called Operation Good Cheer, a unique charitable effort in its 48th year sponsored by the nonprofit Child and Family Services of Michigan.

Since 1971, more than 50,000 children — from infants to adults with disabilities — have received holiday presents with the help of 15,000 volunteers, including 250 pilots donating their time and aircraft to the effort. This year, they planned to reach 6,671 kids.

Once more for the nightwalkers:

The Official AoSHQ Classical Music Playlist (TM) has been revised and extended:

http://soyaraborzoi.com/Playlist.htm (link also in nic)

It now comprises 1200 works by 500 different composers, from Renaissance to contemporary and genres from orchestral to vocal to choral to instrumental to concertos to chamber.

It includes almost not only all of the old familiar warhorses but also many unfamiliar and, perhaps, delightful discoveries. On the whole, the pieces are 25 minutes or less, but some few longer works were added (Beethoven's 5th and 7th symphonies, Mozart's 40th and 41st, the Schumann piano concerto, the Tchaikovsky Serenade for Strings, the Hanson Romantic symphony). Some minor rearranging was done and some solecisms removed.

So, again, I'd like to make this available to the Horde. Just send me an e-mail at monsalvat 61 at g mail dot com (remove spaces and add symbols) and I'll mail you a flash drive with these files (as mp3), suitable for playing on your computer or in your car (which is where I do most of my listening). If you've already gotten the previous version I'll be happy to replace it with the new one.

I think those who received the previous version of this playlist will testify to the level of quality I tried to maintain. A small regret is that I've endeavored to do complete works whenever possible and not individual movements. That and the limit I placed on length leaves out some lovely music by more expansive composers like Bruckner, Shostakovich, Rachmaninov, etc.

No charge. My treat. Really.

Overall his review was it's not great, but not horrible either. Also he did a lot of funny jokes about how Hollywood just can't stop making remakes of that film about every 20 years.

Can't wait for the next version of ASIB. Will probably be a same-sex couple...

70 As for solar panels, one of the worst nights I had stuck working at the hospital was when a thunderstorm took out the "solar farm" within view of the ICU. It was like a chain reaction as one panel blew after another in small, but loud, burst of blue. It was horrible/fascinating and all the very paranoid patients instantly determined we were at war. I won't have the damn things on my house.

So, solar panels aren't very efficient, are costly to manufacture and the process produces hazardous waste that is difficult to recycle. They also don't last very long, don't work except in areas of continuous sunlight. And they are hazardous to dispose of properly, can't be recycled, and it costs a lot of money.

Finally, they don't produce enough energy to be cost effective.

About 20 yr supply of electricity. When exposed to sunlight, the solar photons replace these electrons slowly... When the electrons are all gone, the solar panels simply absorbing all the photons, creating Night. Very unpleasant to have around then.

And you can't just cut and scotch tape the nine squares together because side A is printed directly behind side B, so I'm off to argue with Kinko that I am not breaking copyright because it's for my personal use. And now I have bored all of you to death with the triviality my life has become since being forced into retirement. 147 Solar panels make great sense on a cruising sailboat.

Those and a quality wind generator can really help keep the house-bank (non-engine starting batteries) charged, which is crucial to operating a boat's fridge, freezer and other electrical draws.

Otherwise, it's fire up the fuel-thirsty, noisy genset and churn that baby for however many hours it takes to top off the cells.

Dockside though, a boat is normally hooked up to a 20 amp or 50 am shorepower service.

And all that solar up atop the bimini is just now a depreciating bird-poop collector.

A courteous mariner though, either puts the braking pin in, or removes the propeller blades from the wind generator when dockside.

They do kind of annoy the neighbors with noise, when spinning needlessly up on their pole.

But scaling that system up to what it'd take to power a suburban home?

And how much you wanna bet that the average homeowner won't wash the dust off of 'em, even once a year.

I'm always happier than not, that I didn't return to CA after my USAF days.

152 The solar panel article is misleading. Most of the bulk of a solar panel is harmless glass, metal, and plastic. Sure there is lead in the solder, and possibly cadmium in the silicon wafers, but not in huge bulk.

We on the right need to be careful about countering misinformation from the Left with misinformation of our own, especially if it is easily debunked.

The real reason for not using solar panels for generating grid power is that they are singularly useless for that task. Full stop. If they were truly useful for that task, they'd be economically viable, and ways would be found to safely and profitably recycle them at the end of their life cycle. Perhaps we could run them through a crusher, then dissolve the toxic heavy metal with chelating agents, and then separate the glass, plastic, and metal particles for reuse.

I'd like to see him go in the Octagon with the soy-based lifeform that plays the ostensibly male cuck role in that NPC version of his song.

245 Check Chip Roy, congressman-elect from TX, twatters for a pretty perfect summation of the empty, ineffective GOP - he was inspired to make the comment by passage of the farm bill. As usual, it's a horror show, and as usual, it will receive almost no notice, nobody will even know about it.

But as I keep reminding everyone, at least the "criminal justice reform" thing will pass. So the incessant chants at Trump rallies for this reform, from spring of '16 til now, can now stop.

I wouldn't be too sure on that, rhomboid. The Democrats will inevitably demand more and more from the Bill until it becomes incapable of passing and then, once it fails, they'll blame the GOP for shooting it down. They've done it before with GOP-proposed Gun Control legislation and I don't see any reason for them to suddenly change and let Republicans (and by extension Trump) get any semblance credit for the passage of one of their longtime priorities.

Same reason as why NSA warrantless warrantless wiretaps haven't caught any terrorists: when you cast a net that wide, all the fish look the same.

Short of some major advance like quantum computing, the NSA is gathering far more data on individuals than it can realistically hope to decrypt and analyze.

But it can be useful... for instance, you could use it to select a single individual whose political campaign you'd like to damage or whose Presidency you'd like to derail, and just turn it on him.

Why is everyone focused on just Trump's campaign? Why not everyones' campaign? Why just this election cycle?

If they are not cyber security conscious, like Trump apparently is, the snooping lets you counter and sabotage. If they are, then you rake up stuff from the past and their confederates.

Personally I thought Herman Cain collapsed quickly under rumors of rumors, for example.

However if the candidate doesn't walk away, then there is always the blackmail angle for future planning as well.

Meanwhile - have we liberated the Sea of Azov! yet (I think a name like that just calls for an exclamation point, every time)? How's the Kerch Peninsula doing? No - this is not about some sci-fi story. Those are actual places.

And it's telling that being a threat to *those* places pretty much sums up Russia's current power standings. Weakest they've been in 3-400 years, leaving out the Revolution - late 1920s period.

A new study that analyzed four years' worth of films found that female-led movies have consistently outperformed those in which men get top billing.

The study analyzed the 350 top-grossing films worldwide released between January 2014 and December 2017. Researchers found that in films with small, medium and large budgets, all averaged better global grosses when a woman was listed as the lead star.

Conducted by the talent agency Creative Artists Agency and the tech company shift7, the study found that films that passed the Bechdel test do better, too. The Bechdel test, an invention of the cartoonist Alison Bechdel, rates whether a movie features two female characters having a conversation about something other than a man.

497 Aetius I think it's somewhat complicated but Russia still lacks the rudiments that are almost required for true prosperity - rule of law, reasonable integrity and responsiveness of governance, entrepreneurial freedom, etc. There's also that X factor of culture (the old formula: changing little else, how many Taiwanese would you have to bring in and put in charge to make the place wealthy within 20 years?). And of course there's been a tremendous drain of some of the best entrepreneurial blood to the US, Israel, western Europe.

506 I can't imagine that 350 films over 4 years is a very useful dataset no matter what is being measured. I'd have to agree as far as the Germans. Russia under Germany would have been very... empty of Russians. I seem to remember reading an account by some Nazi or other, that Hitler envisioned Russia as a source of resources (which would probably be near slave labor for the local populations) and summer homes/retreats/resorts for Germans.

That does not leave much for the Russians.

France conquering Russia is an outside enough possibility that it would be hard to predict much of anything.

I dunno. It is hard to predict insane people. However, Slavs in general were ranked around the same (if not lower) in the Racial sweepstakes of the Germans than Jews. Now on one hand, you are completely right, more likely to use them as slave labor. However, if enough revolts happened (and assuming a victory in Russia meant he could crush the remainder of the western allies- sans declaring war on the US) and considering such victory would vindicate their dreams of racial supremacy. That is a recipe for extreme badness.

517 Aetius and Y5 the "spitballing" numbers used by Nazi planners when considering what to do with the conquered east (Belarus Ukraine and parts of Russia) all seemed to assume 30 million local inhabitants would ..... just be gone.

That's how many fewer would be required to make both war-time resource exploitation and post-war colonization work out (and Aetius yes, Hitler his own self foresaw colonization via an almost Spanish Empire-like system of military pioneer/settlers who would work the land and provide buffer security against the asiatic hordes).

So German conquest of Russia, as in the 1940s, meant genocide and endless war/subjugation. Thus: marginally worse than what Russians do to themselves/allow to have done to themselves. So - German conquest bad!

Which is what the Nazis did with Russian PoWs, the ones who weren't killed outright. Hitler had no love for Slavs, they being subhuman and all.

The real interesting historical 'what if?' is if WWII ended in an Allied defeat, with the Krauts and Japs winning. The eventual war between those two 'superior' peoples would have been a sight to behold, with Germany probably holding he edge due to its technology. 531 Y's Dice, correct. Absent a Soviet political collapse, Germany really didn't stand much of a chance. I guess if there had been an immediate, singular focus on cutting the Volga and taking the Caucasus oil, then it's just barely feasible.

Though things did look quite sporty in late 1941, when the closest German units could see the domes of the Kremlin church, and much of the govt. had been evacuated to Kuibyshev. There were 2 key days in October, panic, in which Soviet rule (fear) broke down in Moscow - no lynchings of NKVD or Party scum, but open unthinkable behavior (dumping idiotic Lenin/Stalin literature or portraits on the streets, etc).

But Stalin didn't evacuate, the mood calmed, the Red Army held, and here we are.

And the Germans came damn close. Stalin did a lot of their work for them in eliminating any competition for himself. Start two months earlier- when they planned? Dear God.

It would have also meant that if they could destroy Stalin in Moscow, the whole enterprise becomes completely localized. Stalin had eliminated most of the leaders who could have led a resistance.

I am not saying that the impetus to this is because of German brilliance or technology, Barbarossa is far more the fault of the purges of the military by the Soviets.

Shirer thought the Germans would have won if they'd made a single push directly for Moscow instead of the North/South strategy they adopted. The real Russian weakness was logistics - every major rail line went through Moscow, so the loss of the capitol would have meant Russian troops everywhere running out of food, fuel, and ammo.

561 Weird. When I was in that business 25 years ago it was pretty much understood by everyone chaff was obsolete - SAM technology had progressed to the point that if you were relying on chaff to save you... well, you were dead.

I wonder if they made the chaff better, or if it's one of those things we still put on aircraft as kind of a placebo for pilots.
Posted by: Ace's liver at D

well, you know, they were running that big jfex out west all week. maybe this was somehow in conjunction with that. wonder if maybe it was designed to obscure surface targets like some csg from a2ad?

Posted by: yankeefifth at December 12, 2018 02:13 AM (MTjB1)

562 Ace's liver, I think chaff is used more for a sort of "area denial" or blinding effect, for larger operations, as opposed to being dispensed by individual aircraft for their particular protection. But I'm no expert.

Both. The passenger airbag broke the front window and burned the dash. It wouldn't have mattered anyway, since a set of new airbags was worth more than the car. In CA if your car was ever equipped with airbags you can't register it without a working set.

No doubt in my mind that was a terrorist attack. The so-called investigators completely ignored eyewitness testimonies stating many saw a trail going toward the plane, not just coming from the plane. IMAO, it was a Bill Clinton cover-up because calling it terrorism would have forced Blow Job Billy to actually do something besides get hummers from an intern in the Oval Office.

It would have been a simple matter to rent a fishing boat either on the north shore of Long Island or from somewhere on the south coast of Connecticut/Rhode Island, putter out to the JFK flight paths and wait for an opportune moment, launch a hand-held missile then skedaddle back to the coast, turning the boat in to avoid the whole WTC I Ryder van fiasco. Or someone could have bought a fishing boat for the purpose to avoid the whole rental issue. The attack could have been a retaliation for the capture of Ramzi Yousef as well as that is also a terrorist pattern: Capture a high ranking jihadi causing the jihadis to retaliate.

About that solar article, the VA solar plant they talking about in that article is literally across the street from my house. I heard them clearing the trees and you can see the acres and acres that have been cleared, it looks like a nuke went off. It's so sad because they are trying to build this right next to residential areas with absolutely no concern to the health of the people surrounding. The residents are trying desperately to stop it, but it's in the hands of the BOS right now, because S-power (company building it) has to get a special use permit to build. Right now the land is zoned for agricultural and residential. There are civil war battlefields all around the area. It's such a disgrace, but I fear the right people may have already been bought. The company is from Utah, and the power generated has already been sold to Microsoft and Amazon and I believe a small amount to the university in Richmond. They are using our little community as a dumping ground.

That movie is one of my favorites I have on DVD. I kind of over look the bad models, as CG wasn't as good as it is today. The Pearl Harbor attack was kind of lame, but the story line was good for me, with a the actors who are all gone now.

Admiral Taussig was his father. A very good strategist.

However, he told the truth to Congress, angering FDR twice. Our defenses in the Philippines would have been much more robust if his 1938 recommends had been followed. Alas.

Still, her got a major road named after him. Spent the few months in port in the early 80s at the D&S piers. Loved to see the C-5As fly over. Close.

It's a function of who gets to actually get paid for supplying the power.
If you and I each have a generator, we can each dump electricity into the grid. We get paid per MWH, but only if we have a buyer.
When I was working at the steel mill, we bought a certain amount of power every 30 minutes at a given rate. If we used more than we said for that 30 minutes, we would get severely penalized (like our rate would double for the calendar month, retroactively).

That is why we actually had people monitor the electrical load continuously.

My wife weighs four pounds less then when we were married. I weigh more because I lift weights and added a lot of upper body muscle. But I'm still in the 12-14% body fat range. Statistically for males, that's probably around 1% of the population.
